Captivate 4 Simulation in Question Pool

Hello all,
I have created quizes using some simulation slides.  One slide, click where type questions.
Example.  With one click, print the Excel spreadsheet.
I looked through the forum and have found nothing relating to putting simulation slides into a Question Pool.  I guess the first question is; is it possible.
Second question: if it is possible, how?
Does anyone have experience with this?
Thanks in advance
Terry Dicken

Hi Terry
To my knowledge only Question Slides may be part of a Pool. As you are talking about Animations, my guess is that it won't be possible because of the way the developers have structured Captivate and the Question Pooling feature.
Perhaps others have a different viewpoint.

  • Captivate Crashes When Editing Question Pool

    Captivate v5.5
I have a project with 36 questions in a question pool.
I need to edit some the these QP questions but as soon as I start doing this I get the message that Captivate has encountered an error...very sorry...and must close down. I have tried it three times and it does it every time.
I have edited QP questions many times before without this problem.
I am not working via company network but I have just moved locations from one part of my office to another, in case this means anything.
Can anyone offer any suggestions. I am happy to provide any more details if required.
    Noel

    Hi Noel,
Can you let me know if the current location of your project is on any server or network?
Also, Launch Captivate beofre editing the Project, go to Edit --Preferences -- General-- Check the Option to Generate Project Backup.
Do one more test, create another project adn impor the Question pool of this project there -- File--Import --Question pool.
Try editing it fisrt in this dummy project, if it allows, try again on the main project.
If it still crashes, try copying all your slides excluding Quiz Result Slide to this project.
    Thanks,
    Anjaneai

  • Captivate 7 Simulation Recording Question

I'm using Captivate 7 to record a simulation requiring my learner to drag a message from one area and drop it into another. When I view the recording, all works well except the part where the learner is to actually drag and drop the message...that piece plays like a demo. Can a drag and drop simulation be recorded in Captivate 7 allowing the learner to drag the designated message to the designated area?

You will have to create that slide from scratch, could be done with the D&D
wizard. Dragging and scrolling during capture always results in FMR-slides.

  • Cp4 - question pool - time limit not working

I am putting together a bunch of quiz modules & I am having so many problems with this, it's driving me crazy!
I am using question pools & I have a bunch of questions in my pool.  I am trying to edit the questions to place a time limit on each one.  When I edit the question, I choose the Options tab & select Show time out message. I then choose the Reporting tab & enter a time limit of two minutes.  Yes, the Time limit selection box is checked.
Now, when I look at my question slide - there is no time out message & when I publish my module... the question has no time limit!
The crazy thing is that I have been putting these modules together all day & this is the first one that is acting this way!  I have successfully added time limits to other quiz modules.
One thing I tried.. was to save the problem captivate file & then re-open... but when I look at each question's properties - they all have the time limit defined.  So it is saving the info, it's just not implementing it.
I'm running into all kinds of crazy problems with my question pools... (among other things, the question pools manager won't save any of my edits to the questions!)
    any advice?
    thx in advance...

Yes, I have a few threads going... I'm having a lot of problems!
The other thread that Rod is helping me with is related to a different issue.... although it's still quiz-related.
Here is a quick outline of what I'm doing here.  I have a small file that I'm using as a template.  It has 44 slides in it - 2 intro slides, 40 random quiz slides, and 2 ending slides.  I have a question pool defined that has one question slide in it - I'm just using this a placeholder for now.
So, what I'm doing is using the template file as a starting point.  I then copy/paste question slides from other captivate files into my question pool.  I am creating a master quiz based on previous quizzes.  So there are anywhere from 9-12 captivate files that I'm taking questions from and copying into my new question pool-based quiz file.  This is where things are going wacky.  The problems I'm running into are really unpredictable.
I'm thinking maybe the files that I'm taking the questions FROM might be corrupted in some way? Although, in the original files, the questions do NOT have a time limit.  This is something new I am adding after I bring them into my question pool.
I will do what you suggest... if you have any other ideas, I would surely welcome those as well!!
    Thanks Lilybiri...

  • Sharing Question Pools

Is it possilbe to create a Captivate project with multiple
question pools and then share those pools with other Captivate
projects (without importing)? Thus far I have only been able to use
question pools within a single Captivate project. I am mainly
looking to keep my file size down and thought external question
    pools might help.
    Darin

    a.c.b.,
From what I have been able to find out, all question pools are external files which are accessed by the main captivate file. Since you are able to spread out the questions throughout a given project, you could break the project up into three parts and then have questions in each part. The final grade would be tallied at the end of the project for you to email. If you hvae three separate projects, I don't believe you can maintain a running score among the three.

  • How can I get Captivate to score across multiple question pools?

I have set up a Captivate assessment as follows:
A core set of 50 questions will be presented to all learners
Depending on where the learner is, he will receive an additional 10 questions from one of 5 location-specific pools
Learners will see a total of 60 questions
I have my question pools set up and branching correctly, and am using the Branch Aware option to assist with this and the progress indicator. Before the first question I have the learner click one of several buttons (not quiz elements) to set a location variable, and after presenting the core questions I use this variable to determine which random question slide to jump to next (with set of slides pointing to a different question pool). After asking the 10 random questions from that pool the learner is then redirected to the review slide so only one set of location-specific slides is encoutnered on each attempt.
All of that seems to be working as designed but the scoring is not behaving as I had expected; despite the fact that all questions are asked before the review slide is presented (i.e. all questions are within the quiz scope in both the edit-time and run-time sense) the review slide only reports results from the first question pool. For example, in a test file I reduced the question slides for the first pool to only display 2 questions, for a total of 12 presented, but my results show "0 of 2 correct" or "2 of 2 correct." The pass/fail results of the module match the review slide, so this is not a simple display issue; if I miss either of the two questions from the first pool I fail regardless of what happens in the second pool.
What am I missing? Surely there wouldn't be the option of using multiple question pools if only one could be graded ...
I am working on Captivate 6.0.1 64-bit for Windows. FWIW the file was originally created in Captivate 5 and has since been upconverted, but the additional question pools weren't introduced until after the conversion processes so I wouldn't expect this to be related to residual crud left over from that process.

Thanks for the quick response ...
I had already tried deleting the review slide itself, though Captivate wouldn't let me - it just hid it. I tried again using the method you recommended but the slide remained in the filmstrip, so I tried deleting again, then re-added it from the Quiz Settings page ... no joy, same behavior as before.
I checked the Advanced Interaction page and confirmed that all of the scored questions were configuredthe same way as the non-scored questions, with the only difference being the pool that they were drawing from.
Other thoughts? I am by no means a Captivate expert but this one really feels like it shouldn't be this hard, and I'm more than a little afraid that it's the file itself that's jacked up ...

  • Captivate 4 Question Pool Slides Show Ghosts

Random question slides display captions from previous slides
when I publish to Flash 8-10. Publishing to Flash 7 or using the
same questions (but not as random questions) cures the problem.
The captions appear on all but one random question slide (8
of 10 doesn't display the problem). The captions are from four
upstream slides each of which has different rollover captions. The
problematic question slides show all the rollover captions,
    superimposed over the question.
The PC showing the problem is running Win XP SP3, Flash WIN
10,0,22,87. Other PC's at the same site do have the problem when
    running the same published show.
I've tried recreating the question pool from the original
question slides, recreating the random question slides,
uninstalling and reinstalling Flash on the target PC with the same
    results.
    Any one else noticed this?
Any suggestions for a fix other than publishing in Flash 7?

Did you or others submit an official bug report?

  • How do you print the slides in the question pool in captivate 6?

how do you print the slides in the question pool in captivate 6?

You move them back into the main project first, and then print them like other slides.

  • Captivate 8: Can I create a random question pool from existing quiz slides?

I made a quiz for a client, published it out and everything works perfectly.  Now the client has decided that they want the questions to be random.  I have tried to add my existing question slides to the question pool, however I have no idea how to do this correctly.  Nothing I try seems to work - the only tutorial I could find was on the Adobe site and it simply said to create a question pool and then drag the slides to the timeline, replacing the question pool slides with the existing slides.  But I cannot drag the slides for some reason, and I am very confused about these directions, they don't seem to mesh with my version of Captivate.
My questions weren't part of a question pool when I developed this quiz as I had no idea such a thing existed. And now I see through every tutorial I find, a question pool is necessary for randomizing the questions.  So, my question is... is there a way to do this with existing question slides, or will I have to start all over again?

    Hi there
Should be even simpler. Select the question slides and right-click. There should be an option to send them to the desired pool!

  • Export a Captivate question pool

Is there a way to export a Captivate question pool in an xml format, perhaps make a GIFT file or QTI format?

Even if you could export them, you could not edit them. In
other words, Adobe Captivate does not have a way to import
questions that are not written in Captivate (you can't just type
them in Word for example). In Captivate 4 you can make questons and
question pools and import them, but the author needs to do that in
    Captivate 4
One solution is to have Captivate 4 for each developer and
    that would simplify your work.
Another solution woul be to design a Word DOC file that has a
picture of the Question Style and then a place to type the Question
and Answers for that style. The Captivate developer could then copy
and paste the text into the question slides. If you run dual
monitors, this is easy to do and it goes quickly.

  • Captivate w/Question pool, able to be in same swf?

I'm needing my captivate swf's with quizes to be on one swf file instead of 2. It seems the question pool is put in an extra swf file. Is there a way to only have one swf with the question pool embeded?

Thanks for letting us know your use case. But you can't get a single swf (main movie + question pool) in Captivate 5. You can however file a request for this feature using this link.

  • How to make a question pool with MANY questions?

I would like to make a question pool
with several thousand questions, which I currently have in an
Excel file. Is there a way around having manually to enter all
questions in a Captivate question pool?
    Thanks.

I would use the XML function from Captivate 4.
    - Make yourself a test quiz with two slides, one being a multiple choice.
    - Export it to XML
    - Open the XML File in Excel
Good point to start with is ns1:g and ns1:Source26.
Most likely you can get all your question into captivate that way.

  • Transition for Question Pool Slides

    Captivate v5.5
I have a question pool of 20 slides with 5 random slides in the main project.
I have applied "Blinds" as a transition option to all 20 slides in the question pool.
When I test the questions (F8 starting on the slide before the first random question slide), the transitions do not work.
    Any idea?
    Noel

    Hi Rod,
I previewed the whole project (F4) and still the transition did not work.
Having to publish it (eg to .exe I presume you mean) before I can check the slide transition seems a little long winded - but I will give it a go just in case.
    Thanks...

  • Convert to Question Pool random questions?

We are updating a course we developed last year (prior to
Captivate 3). This year we want to apply Captivate 3's "Question
Pool random questions" to this course. Is there a way to create the
question pool(s) in this existing quiz, and then add last year's
questions to them without having to re-enter each question into the
    Question Pool Manager?
    Thank you for any tips!

    Hi Jan
Sure thing. Just convert the version 1 or 2 project to a
version 3 project. Then define a Question Pool. Once you have done
that, switch to Storyboard view. Select the question slides you
wish to add to the pool and right-click. You should be presented
with an option to add the selected slides to the pool.
Once you have moved the question slides to a pool, you would
then insert Random slides that point to the pool.

  • Results slide showing all question pool results not just the ones completed.

I have several question pools which have the option to be taken independently or separately.
If the user does not take all seven of the modules then the quiz results slide at the end is incorrect as it will report all of the questions not just the ones attempted.
I have tried the Branch aware option in the quiz results option but that did not worth.
It this an easy fix or does it require me to add a variable count for each correct answer.
    Many thanks
    Rick

Branch aware should be just fine for that case, why do you tell it is not working? Branch Aware Quiz - Captivate blog
When you say 'score slide is not reporting correctly', I had no such problems.
You could create a custom score slide indeed, using variables, but what if you have to report as a SCORM? Only possibility in that case is Branch aware.
