Capturing One Big Video File

I can't seem to find the setting to let me capture one video file in PE7. It seems to create several and all I want is one. Which setting is it?
Thanks,
Brian

I'm with Hunt. I thought if you turned Scene Detection off, it would produce one big file. But I guess I'm assuming you're capturing DV-AVI from tape. If PRE is giving you fits, WinDV is a very nice (and free) capture utility that would produce one, big file for you.
I haven't yet worked (much) with HDD / flash card source assets, but I believe in that case the source would be in different files, no?
Just out of curiosity, why do you want one, big file versus several  smaller?

  • Can't import big video file from iPhone to Macbook.

    I have a big video file I took on my iPhone – 4.9gb – which both iPhoto and image capture wont let me import. Any suggestions how I can import this onto my Macbook?

    Perhaps try one of the apps that transfers photos and videos via WiFi between phone and computer. There are several in the App Store.

  • Edit Capture Time of video files

    Is it correct that I am still not able to adjust the capture time of video files? This makes no sence to me. I adjusted a group of photos (because of traveling to a different time zone). Now the video files are still in the wrong time zone. Please fix!

    Agreed this feature really should be present in LR4 with all the new video capabilities.  As John pointed out, it's one of the most basic features.

  • Why no more clips and just one big .mov file?

    I had been working in iMovie and iDVD 4 for some time up until present when I upgraded to iLife 6. One of the things I like about ver. 4 was that the whole movie was saved as a file but there were also the individual clips saved as well. I could use these clips when creating my iDVD project. Now I see that those clips are gone and there's just one big .mov file to drop into my iDVD themes. Why did they do this??? Is there some benefit to this that I'm not understanding? Maybe I don't have something set correctly in the prefs.? Is there anyway around this so that I have control over what part of a movie gets dropped into my iDVD themes?
    -Daryl

    Thank you so much, Matt. That did the trick. I would've never thought of that. I was beginning to figure that the clips just had to be somewhere else that wasn't obvious to me. I couldn't believe that they would do away with that. Thanks again!

  • How to break big video file into many small ones?

    I have a 1-hour long video file (miniDV), recorded on tape with timecode but without timecode markers between individual clips (that is, I cannot scene detect capture it). How do I best go about accurately breaking it up into individual video files on my disc?
    1) capture it, drag it into Timeline, cut into clips there, manually copy-paste the in-out data into a batch list. Takes lots of time.
    or
    2) capture it, open it in Source Window, make subclips, export the batch list. The problem here is that the timecode in the original file is weird, starting at 08;06;40;01, and all the subclips inherit it. Otherwise, it would probably take less time than option (1).
    or
    Is there any way to generate batch list from the timeline, in order to avoid time-consuming manual copy-pasting in-out data?
    Thank you!

    I don't understand how you can have timecode that won't allow you to use it to tell (something like scenalzer) to split on capture or whatever.  Just curious.
    Scene capture for DV footage isn't dependent on timecode, it's dependent on datecode/time-of-day (TOD) information written onto the tape. I've run into this problem before when the internal battery on a DV camera was dead, and so the internal TOD generator didn't function; the same time and date was written on every single frame, making it impossible to use automatic scene detection.
    Here's another option: drop your clip into a sequence, and split it (using the razor and trimming tools) where you want scene breaks. Be sure to trim at least a couple of frames off of either the tail of the outgoing clip or the head of the incoming clip. When done, go to Project > Project Manager, and use the "Create New Trimmed Project" option. Uncheck the "Include Handles" option, set your destination and hit OK. Premiere will create shorter trimmed versions of the original clip in the destination you specify, and also create a new project file that points to those trimmed versions; there is no quality loss, so don't worry about that. You can either use the generated project, or just import the split clips into a new project.

  • Difference between capture rendering and video file rendering

    Hello,
    I am using JMF to process a video coming from a camera or from a video file, but I noticed some differences in the screen output between these two cases.
    I created a Processor and attached an Effect plug-in to its codec chain. On every frame, some processing is done in the process() method of the Effect. Every automatic update of the processor's visual component fires automatic update of my transparent custom drawing pane positioned on top of it (because they overlap). This way I can easily draw some lines over the video layer.
    This works fine on capture. When the video comes from a file, however, the JMF visual component always shows the previous frame (not the one just processed), so my drawings are out of sync (they are a step ahead from the frame displayed).
    Why is that? The processing code is the same for the capture and the files, only the dataSource is created differently.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Capture audio and video files to seperate files

    Forum,
    Having suffered problems with OS 10.5 and Quicktime 7.4.1 I have done a clean install with 10. 4 .11.
    When I select capture the following notice appears
    "Audio only capture selected,video preview disabled"
    In system settings "capture audio and video to seperate files " is NOT checked.
    But that may not mean the same as the statement in in the capture window.
    I have searched HELP and a book called" Optimizing your Final Cut Pro System" but can not find an answer.
    Advice would be appreciated.
    Thank you
    Michael Craven

    Hi,
    Check this:
    in Log & Capture window select Clip Settings tab and make sure video box is checked.
    Cheers,

  • Cannot transfer recorded big video files to computer

    So I recorded a 12 min vid with the touch the other day, and it just' won't transfre to the computer. I get some error & it won't go through my desktop. The vid plays fine on my ipod. So I just did another test to record another 12 min vid, and I got the same problem with that video. Seems like I'm not able to transfer big videos to my computer because I'll get an error.....

    Called an apple support & they solved it. Apparently IOS 4.1 is having these problems.

  • One big audio file

    When I sync my iPhone, the memory used changes during sync by about 0.55 GB, every time.  The  song count changes by 1.  So somewhere, I have asong that's 0.55 GB, but nothing that big shows up on my listing. Any suggestions where to look?

    Insert the CD.
    Don't Import it yet.
    Select the CD in iTunes.
    Select the consecutive tracks uyou want joined as one file.
    Go to menu Advanced > Join CD tracks.
    Do this for each set of tracks you want as one file.
    Then Import the CD.
    If the tracks are already in iTunes, no need to import them again.
    Use this -> Join Together
    "Join Together automates the process of joining the files of selected iTunes tracks together with QuickTime and exporting them as a single AAC Music or Audiobook file/track. Optionally, you can then create a "chapterized" audio file of the exported AAC file with pointers to the individually joined tracks."

  • SQL XML-Selection-Performance in one big xml-file

    Hi!
    I'm a xml-db novice and have now my trouble with a 30 MB XML-File like this:
    <root>

    <value amount="10.00"/>
    </element>

    <value amount="20.00"/>
    </element>
    12000 elements following
    </root>
    The xml-file i imported in an xmltype-Object-Table.
    Now i wanted to make a checksum over all elements. I took that query i found in OTN:
    select sum(to_number(extractValue(value(list_of_values),'//@amount'),'9999999999.99'))
    from xml_table t,
    table(xmlsequence(extract(value(t),'//root/element/value'))) list_of_values
    This Query took a half hour! Should I create an Index? When yes, what type of index? Or is there another way to take the sum of all element-values? I can't live with that performance because i have to take some more checksums.

  • Make a simple "cut" edit in a singular video in CS6 (one video file as opposed to multiple clips).

    I want to be able to do simple editing in CS6. I just spent three hours watching tutorial videos and reading help articles and this forum. I have never used an Adobe video editing program before. I normally use Windows Movie Maker, but it's too simple for my current needs. (Eventually I will learn effects.)
    My problem is that the tutorial videos show examples where there is more than one "clip" being placed on the timeline. That seems to pre-set editing points. I only need to import one longer video file and then cut out frames that I no longer want in the video.
    I have figured out how to set start and end points on the clip, as in at the actual beginning and actual end. But following every single method described (JKL, etc), I still cannot seem to edit frames out of the middle of my videos. I assume this is because I'm missing some very simple method for setting edit points. This is what I need to know.
    I am an extreme novice with this program though I'm somewhat computer savvy. So please no jargon. I know nothing of this program. I did all I could to find my own answers before asking here, but if this is answered somewhere else, please direct me there. Thanks.

    I'm in a similar boat -- editing family video recorded on Hi8 and captured into DV with a Canopus ADVC-300. I typically have a 2 hour clip in the timeline.  I'm separating these into clips with the razor tool, but sometimes I want to remove a garbled few seconds from within a clip.
    Today I discovered something nifty: in Keyboard options, there are two items that don't have a key assigned:
    Application->Ripple Delete->Ripple Trim Next Edit to Playhead
    Application->Ripple Delete->Ripple Trim Previous Edit to Playhead
    I assigned these to the Shift+] and Shift+[ keys.   Premiere didn't warn me about these keys being assigned already, so I guess it's ok.  At first, I used '}' and '{' but I'm afraid that it is too easy to accidently hit them.
    When I play back in the timeline, at the start of the garbled area I want to remove, I hit Ctrl+K to add an edit point (the "out point", I suppose). Then I continue playing.   When I reach where I want the video to resume, I just press Shift+[ and Premiere ripple-deletes to the edit point.
    This does leave me with an edit point, though.  I have yet to figure out how to splice the two clips together again.
    I'm sure the pros won't like this, but I find it makes things easier.

  • Unable to find video file

    I was capturing a large video file using iphone 4s. When press stop, it seemed the file has been recorded to the phone but I couldn't find the video file in my Camera Roll as it should be. I connected the phone to my computer and tried to sync to itune but nothing was copied to itune. However, the capacity bar indicated that something has occupied most of the phone memory. I guess the video file has been record but for some reason it did not show up in the iphone while still occupying the phone memory.
    Anybody has this problem? If you know how to erase the file to free up the memory, please help/
    Thanks

  • 16:9 video files appear 4:3 in finder

    When I capture 16:9 video files with a Backmagic card through SDI connection by using FCP7 capture tool - I get 16:9 files in FCP7.
    I edit and export and everything is ok. However, when I do "show in finder" the same video file is shown as 4:3 in the Finder!
    If I import that 4:3 file back to FCP7 it will be 4:3.
    When I capture through Blackmagic own Media Express I capture and playback in 16:9 - however, when I do "show in finder" in the Blackmagic list the file
    in the finder is not 16:9 but 4:3!
    All video files are captured as PAL DV.
    Any ideas?

    If I understand correctly, this should explain the problem.  If I don't understand correctly, post back.
    Here's the quicktime info for an anamorphic SD quicktime
    As you can see, the pixel dimensions are the same as a non anamorphic quicktime,  it's just the display size that differs.  This info is in the "metadata" for the quicktime.  If the app that created the file doesn't set the "display size" correctly, the quicktime will display as squeezed.  You can change this using quicktime player 7 (which if I remember correctly is an optional install on the snowleopard disk).
    Digital Rebellion also has an app called quicktime edit which will do it.

    Hope this helps.

  • Adobe premiere elements 12 with diamond vc500 one touch video capture device.

    Adobe premiere elements 12 and using Diamond vc500 one touch video capture device.
    AVI files will not load into Adobe premiere elements 12.
    I bought what I thought were the two best software and capture devices.
    I am archiving old VHS tapes and using Diamond vc500 capture software called EZ grabber. I thought the best archiving format would be AVI files. As I just started this project. I am willing to do what is needed.
    That even being, going and buy another capture device that being for a VCR to PC using a USB are even a Video card.
    EZ grabber software ask you to record in what format. I picked AVI. There is DVD - SVCD - VCD - MPG4. I want to archive then go back and edit. The DVD or SVCD format, is that not the same as mpeg 2?
    You and I know the drill. Saving in what long term archive format and that dare thing about video compression and losing quality of the videos. Its all a nightmare.
    Once again I am willing to buy another capture device for a VCR that will work with Adobe premiere elements 12.
    Help please with long term archiving format and capture device.
    Thanks

    The answer is B.
    Capturing the VHS content to computer (via the Diamond vc500 and USB connection and EZ grabber) to obtain an .avi file on your computer and then trying to import that into Premiere Elements with its Add Media/Files and Folders?
    When I do that, the Adobe premiere elements 12 crashes or only loads a 2 mins of video.
    The firewire connection device "Canopus" product sounds great. But I really don't want to spend that much on my home videos. My PC does not have a Firewire connection. So add a new card for that and the Canopus product. I could just pay someone to do my VHS tapes.
    Diamond vc500 $35
    Adobe premiere elements 12 $65
    Firewire card $50 plus
    Canopus $180
    $330 is way too much for simple home VHS videos
