Case foot fell off - 2 weeks out of warranty.

Purchased a new Pac Book Pro13 last June just 2 weeks out of warranty, one of the feet have fallen off. I have been searching for a replacement but have been told I have to replace the case bottom! Its scratching desk surfaces and I really have to replace the foot... any ideas?

  • Toshiba AC adapter 2 weeks out of warranty

I was very disappointing to find out that Toshiba will not honor warranty for the AC adapter as its 2 weeks out of warranty. What happened to good will and good gestures.
I used to work for a service department and we would always honor warranty for products just outside the warranty period. I know its not an expensive item, but just a good will gesture, perhaps send me a working used or refurbished AC adapter might of been nice.

  • Silent Switch fell off

I'm new to the Apple scene with my iPhone 3G, so I'm not sure how things like this are handled.
When switching to and from silent, the button has fallen off. I still have it, and it goes back on but falls off again when switching. What should I do?

I bought my iPhone 3G the first day it came out. After tax my 16GB iPhone was $550 (not exactly a drop in the bucket!). I have taken extreme care of it and bought a screen protector and phone case.
Imagine my reaction when that little switch fell off! I nearly lost it, but was lucky to find it on the floor. I immediately phoned MY-APPLE and of course they claim it was an issue they never heard of before. They suggested that I make an appointment to have it repaired at the store. She told me that she that it's possible that they may have to ship it out to be fixed.
At this point I've had the phone for less than a month and don't much like the idea of having some tech guys start taking my phone apart to put a new piece or super glue it back on.
My appointment is on Monday. A question to those who had this happen to them--- what happened? Did they repair it or give you a new iPhone?
    THANKS

  • Processor heat sink fell off

Really! It just fell off no bumping or dropping. My 3000K is almost three years now.
I was reading email and the fan went to full speed three seconds latter it shut down. I rebooted and it shut down right away. I took the side off. Booted again. I could tell it was the process fan running fast so I touched the housing heat or vibration. I notice the fan assmy. Was loose on one side. And it shut down. I put a screw driver into one of the screw slots and the whole fell off. All four screws were still in the mother board with a tiny ring from the Assmy still on the screws. Then when I took the screws out of the board the bracket behind the board with the screw threads fell down behind the board. I was able to shake the bracket out but  I not sure I get it back into place and secure to mother board without removing the whole board.
Unless a new assmy. Has much stronger screw supports I will be better off to epoxy this one back together and use it.
Is there different grades of the compound to put between the assmy. And the processor.
Has this ever happened to anyone?

    Hello Daelm1001,
Drop the computer down to a bare minimum of components installed.
    Remove any extra hard drives.
Remove all sticks of RAM except one.
If your computer has integrated graphics and you are using dedicated, move to integrated.
Remove everything externally from the computer (e.g. components connected to USB) except mouse, keyboard, and monitor.
Reset the BIOS by removing the battery for five minutes and then placing back in.
    Reseat your processor.
Once you have done all that, try to boot up your computer and see if the observations are the same.

  • Little memory fastener fell off

    Hello,
While installing another memory module, I might have inserted the dimm too hard and the plastic fastener fell off and I fear its somewhere on the bottom of the case. Is the plastic fastener really needed, because once I installed the memory, it is locked in place. The other fastener is secured however.
Should I run the apple hardware test just to make sure?

Tom, you seem to be pretty knowledgable about the G5 Quad. Tell me if its advisable to do the following:
Remember my G4 MDD dual 1.25? Well, I took the pci slot fan out of it and inserted it into the PCIe slot(the fan card doesn't connect to the slot), so that the hot air can be moved out of the case. Then I took a small fan that I originally had underneath the MDD's front drive cage and mounted it near the video card. The Nvidia 6600 GPU before the slot fan and small fan was hot to the touch, and the degrees were 160F. Now, its at a low 125F.
Even though there is a plastic protective air deflector shield inside, will I cause any harm by adding the PCI Slot fan and the smaller fan pointed in the direction towards outside the case? It seems that these two fans aren't causing any problems with my liquid cooling though.

  • Power button ring fell off!

My Xperia Z1 is just 5 months old.I bought it brand new and it is an expensive device, but now I am having some issues with the power button. I am really disappointed with Sony. It was only recently that I noticed that it felt different pressing the power button. My friend who happen to be an xperia Z1 owner too, told me that the ring encircling the little button in the middle is gone. It fell off. I am from the Philippines and unlike in the US we are not getting much support here. I don't know were to take my phone to or who should I talk to about this issue. I had an Xperia Z before and I had some issues with it and I took it to a local shop for repair. The technician damaged my phone and now it is totally dead. My question is, will it be covered under warranty? I bought this from a certified Sony selling center just last August 2014 l. It's just 6 mos. old and it can't be a wear and tear issue because I take good care of my phone and I am not a heavy user. This must be a defect and Sony must do something about this. I am hesitant in paying for the repairs. Oh gahd, I really don't know what to do.

I am a big fan of Sony, they used to produce quality phones but now I had to purchase two xperia phones within a year because the phone won't last a year without having any issues. I am thinking that since the metallic ring encircling the power button just fell off.. I'm worried that the rest of it will follow. Please someone tell me what to do. I want Sony to be involved in this case that I am having with my Xperia phone.

  • Left Shift Key fell off

Hi guys, I don't know if this is such a weird issue but about two weeks or so ago, my left shift key fell off. I knew I couldn't snap it back on since one of the mini white clips on the upper side (back portion) of the key is missing.
Right now, I can put it back on the keyboard but it wiggles as I know it doesn't fit securely as it used to be. I wish I could take a photo of it and post it on here.
This should be covered by the generic 1-yr battery, right?
    Message was edited by: ricpacs

1-yr battery or warranty? The falling apart of keys may or may not be covered. There are various things that can happen to keyboards which are controllable by Apple, and the user. I would call AppleCare if you believe you didn't do anything that might damage the computer. A list of things that could include:
    1. Food
    2. Water
    3. Drink
    4. Walking by door jams without making sure the machine is inside a well padded notebook bag.
    5. Not paying attention to situations where the computer apparently overheats and shuts down on its own. Making sure that the machine has its display turn off when the lid is closed, and making sure that the battery is replaced if it is under the exchange program.

  • Key just fell off keyboard

The D key just fell off my keyboard. I can use D but have to carefully press the little knob. The key cover (?) is completely off. How do I replace it? I tried pressing down on the key cover in the hole it left. That didn't work. No Apple store within 100 miles, so can't take it in. Please help.

It's a very delicate process but once you figure it out, it's very easy afterwards. Tweezers also comes in handy too.
Did the two latch pieces come off with the key? You will have to take them off and put them back on first. Hopefully the little tabs didn't break which keeps them attached to the keyboard.
To see how how they go back on is easier visually then describing so remove any key next to it by taking the tweezers and prying just the key from the top. That way you will leave the 2 pieces underneath in tact. Once you get those attached, just center the key up and press down until it snaps.

  • IPhone 3GS volume button fell off? Which glue to use

    Hi
My 3GS volume button fell off. It costs alot to fix it since they got to take it apart.
I was thinking of adding glue to put it back. Has anyone done this? Any good suggestions on which glue to use?
    Thanks.

I would recommend an out of warranty repair or a 3rd party repair company and NOT glue.

  • HT202450 Where do I get one of these  "bottom case foot replacement DIY kits"?

Where do I get one of the "bottom case foot replacement DIY kits" as mentioned here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5236

I have had the same situation ,3 of the 4 rubber foot felt down for some time and i manage to deal with this situation recentlly.I was thinking to change to whole back(have some scratches on the back cuz of the missing feet) but the Genius Bar representative told me is more then 100$ and gave up on the idea  .
It cost me 30$(10$/foot...ridiculously expensive if you ask me because, i was out of apple care protection plan) and they mounted for me in about 20 minutes.
If you are still under apple care, you'll likelly be covered for the cost.
If you are not someone told me the feet can be purchased from Apple Care(2 feet per DIY kit, about 15$ per kit + S&H.The Apple Kit contains everything except the screwdriver (feet, alcoholl swabs, superglue).
Try to contact Apple to ask or try a bit more research.
    Hope that helped.....Good Luck!!!

  • Case fans ? Air in or out (Case suggestions ?)

Maybe this is a stupid question.
But because of my high CPU temps i was beginning to think that maybe i had installed all my fans the wrong way
About case fans. Should they be installed so they draw cold air into the case or push hot air out ?
I ask because i was in another Dansih forum where thay was talking about a new case with a 125cm (Big) slow fan in the side,
and the guys said it should draw cold air into the case instead of pushing hot air out...  mmm
Normally hot air should be pushed out, right ???  or
Second. How can you if the fan blow or sucks air ?

I have a windowed case, so when I see some dust in the window, I do open the case and clean everything that have dust, and this is every 2 weeks, or less... :D
I understand that if you have overpressure inside the case and use filters with every fan, in the same period of time you will end with less dust inside than with underpressure, because the air will not enter through every hole of the case, but if you do not use filters (as I don't) the resulting dust in the case will be more or less the same.
I don't like filters because they greatly reduce the airflow produced by the fans, so I prefer to clean the case more often.
And about "getting as much hot air out of the box as possible", I have to say that I've tried with a big 38 x 120 mm rear exhaust fan of 103 CFM (the noise was unbereable !!) and the case temperature was the same as with the stock 25 x 120 mm fan that has much lower CFM, so every solution has its limits. I think that is very important to extract the hot air from the case, but nothing is more efficient than a direct and fresh airflow over the device to cool. I have 2 x 80 mm front fans that flows directly over my two hard drives, and they are currently at 29 and 24 ºC (the Samsung is amazingly cool), and even in summer the temperatures are barely higher.
Anyway is very difficult to find the best setup with a given case/fans configuration. I have another 80m fan in the side window, and when I've inverted the airflow (stock was in exhaust mode) the processor temperature dropped 2 ºC, but in the same time the motherboard temperature unexpectedly raised 2 ºC. I leave the side fan flowing air inside the case, but I can't understand why the motherboard temperature is higher.
