CFPDF pdf being downloaded as .cfm file

Hi there,
My website uses ColdFusion to create pdfs. Currently, users have been contacting me to say the PDFs that are created are being downloaded as .cfm files instead of .pdf files. This is annoying because they have to manually rename the file extension every time. As far as I am aware this is only happening in Firefox.
Is this a known issue and something fairly simple to correct?

Adding the following cfheader fixed the issue:
<cfheader name="Content-Disposition" value="attachment; filename=#getFileFromPath(PDFpath & '_myFileName.pdf')#">
Except, now the alternate function of e-mailing the PDF as an attachment (rather than displaying it in the browser or saving it to their computer) does not work.

PDF Forms Saved as CFM Files

OK, this is kind of a bizarre question and I suspect it has something to do with my having Master Collection installed on my machine and a file typing issue. But I can't confirm for sure . . . so if anyone has any ideas to point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it.
I'm running Windows 7 Professional (32 bit) with Master Collection CS5 installed.
I'm a real estate agent and our MLS has forms for us to fill out when writing an offer to purchase for someone. When we create a profile for our buyer, we fill out their basic information in a web form (Name, Address, Property Address, Purchase Price, etc. etc.). Then we select (again through another web form) the forms we want to populate with the appropriate information. Once we hit submit, we're given the option to open each form individually and then fill in other parts of the forms, etc. The page that controls that is a Cold Fusion page i.e. pagename.cfm followed by arguments that tell it what form to open and where to find the intormation to fill in. When I've filled in the form and go to save it, on any machine that doesn't have Dreamweaver, etc. installed it saves those forms as a PDF file. On my machine however, with everything installed, it wants to save them as CFM files. Now I know they're actually PDF files and if I forget to rename it during the initial save, I can go in and change the extension and it opens in Acrobat just fine. But I'd like to NOT have to remember to rename them everytime I save a form.
So again, I think it's a file typing/extension issue . . . but I'm not sure where to start looking. And I've never messed with that stuff in Windows 7 either.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Came here to complain about this maddening feature. Why it doesn't save the PDF out to a separate instance of the document is beyond me. PLENTY of us want to save the PDF without the layers, and want the PSD separate.
"Oh good, I've completed this document.... let me just save it out as a PDF for client delivery and... Now all the work is gone."
Genius, Adobe, genius. But it's cool--we'll just keep paying out the nose on a subscription basis with no fix for small errors like this.

How to download a LOB file without File Browse or a Report?

Behind my APEX 4.2.2 app, I have a table with PDF's held in a column of type BLOB. With the ID of a given row held in a Page Item, I would like to dynamically generate a simple link for downloading the file. Can this be done?

Thank you for your help. Here is how I managed to display a Page Item as a URL to download a BLOB - which is a PDF, in this case...
1. Set up an Automatic Row Fetch process
2. Created a Page Item (P4_BLOB_CONTENT) with its source as the blob content database column
3. Created a Display Only page item (P4_DOWNLOAD_LINK) but did nothing to it
4. Set up a Dynamic Action (On Change, Set Value) to set the value of P4_DOWNLOAD_LINK via a SQL Query, setting Escape Special Characters to No:
SELECT '<a href="'||APEX_ITEM.GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC('P4_BLOB_CONTENT',doc_id,NULL,'inline')||'">Download Link</a>' dlink
FROM documents
WHERE doc_id = :P4_DOC_ID;
This Dynamic Action fires when the value of P4_DOC_ID changes. This displays a functioning hyperlink, Download Link, that gets the PDF. If the above query returns no row, no link is displayed.
Two remaining questions:
1. When the link is clicked, the browser wants to save the PDF. This is fine, of course, but it does so with a default file name of 'download'. How can I set that default file name as the name of the PDF being downloaded?
2. How do I get the MIME type to be passed along so the browser knows about it? The MIME type stored in the database table.

Battling to download PDF via index.cfm file

Hi.
I'm trying to download an pdf from alink to a index.cfm file
- Firefox downloads a 0byte file which then dissapears immediately,
whereas IE7 at least recognises a PDF file, but still downloads it
as a 0byte file which then wont open anyway :(
Any ideas??

Wrong forum (this is Digital Editions), but ...
I find .pdf files often won't launch properly on my Win8.1. It starts the process but it doesn't do the right thing.
Try making sure you don't have any copies of Reader working (AcroRd32.exe on my 32 bit Win 8.1).
Start a copy from the start screen (or start menu if you've set one up) BEFORE you try to access the file.
Now try to do the download or open it from the downloads directory.
I find that way the file will open properly.

I have windows 8 system.
When pdf files download to system and open in Acrobat. Right had side has
option to change files and save them with Acrobat.com,(save files online)
also option to sign up to Change any file to PDF. I signed up without
paying for a service on right, but did create the online Acrobat.com.
Online when I right click SAVE AS....
to Desktop everything downloads to PDF. Then I have to right click on it,
because files can not be opened with Acrobat, and have to open the files
with another program example, Firefox.
In Acrobat, I do not know how disable the option to store all files to PDF.
And saving any files from the internet
automatically downloads as a PDF ffile and can not be opened with it and I
have to choose program to open with.
I hope I explained the problem best I can,....I'm 47 and kinda new to

The 'Winmail.dat' problem has been extensively covered in these forums, I would search for that (a Google search works well) and unfortunately I have not seen the pdf print problem before, but assuming the software is current and functions normally (other than the pdf print problem) I have no suggestion other than the obvious (but time consuming) re-installation of Office.

JNLP and jar files are being download from server again.

I have a swing application deployed with Java Web Start on a server.
On my client I install the application using JWS JRE 1.6.
The issue is that without any change in the jars or JNLP the jars are being downloaded from the server again and again
This is not consistant - it happens only sometimes.
One important thing to mention: The server is inside a load-balancer cluster (AKAMAI), so the IP address of the actual server may change between different accesses.
in the log, I can see the error:
"Cache entry not found"
and then the jar is being downloaded again.
sometimes only one or two jars were downloaded again, sometimes the whole package with the JNLP file were dowloaded again.
Can you suggest what can be the reason for this behavior?

That does seem slow, but there are many factors that could be involved. More information would be helpful:
- Are the source and destination filesystems ZFS or UFS? (or some other FS)
- What does iostat show you?
- What does vmstat show you?
- What type of HBAs connect you to the SAN? ('fcinfo hba-port')
- Anything in /var/adm/messages?

Download Helper - How to download & save .wmv files WITHOUT the video being downloaded playing on screen?

When I download a video file (typically .wmv) the video begins playing on the monitor screen prior to my being able to use Download Helper to download the video and save to the hard drive. This typically results in the video stopping and playing and stopping throughout the download process because of the download speed available. There is never any issue with the final download on the hard drive.
Today I installed latest version of Firefox and Download Helper on another computer.

Windows Media Player (only) is installed
Downloaded the same .wmv file downloaded above and the video did NOT begin playing on the monitor screen. Download Helper allowed me to download the file to the hard drive WITHOUT constantly listening to the video start/stop/start/stop etc.
What option (in which program) would allow the playing of the video to be toggled on or off while downloading the .wmv file?

CFM files downloading instead of processing

I have an IIS7 Windows 2008 server that was running ColdFusion 9 Standard just fine. We're trying to update it to ColdFusion 10 Standard. However, despite multiple re-installs, CFM files always download instead of serving properly. Here are the things I have confirmed.
All the necessary IIS services/features are installed per the Adobe documentation
The ISAPI filter and handler mappings are getting added in IIS and pointing to the correct CF10 filter.
We have run the Connector program, removed CF and re-added CF to the sites, with no change in behavior.
If we remove CF10 from the site, and then run the CF9 connector and connect CF9 it works great. As soon as we switch to CF10, though, it just will not execute CFM files.
One other odd thing... I noticed that the MIME type of cfm file when downloaded in /msdownload. Even if we manually enter a text/html MIME type for cfm files (which shouldn't be necessary) it still comes down as /msdownload.
My theory on this is that some process is intercepting the request before it gets to ColdFusion/Tomcat. Not sure why it happens with CF10 but not with CF9.

It often depends on the website serving the videos. If they specify the wrong MIME type for the file then Safari will treat it as a regular binary file and download it.

Updating large pdf file on multi devices but do I have to download the entire file every time?

So I have a pdf file that is 500mb (already on acrobat.com cloud) and I want to read this across tablet, desktop, and phone. I will be updating this file bit by bit on every one of those devices. Does this mean that every time I want to see the updated version I have to wait for a download of 500mb? Because that is just ridiculous!

How to protect my jar file from being downloaded

How can i protect my jar file from being downloaded by users by accessing it through the web site.
Now everybody can just type the url www.mysite.com/applets/myApplet.jar
And download it to his computer.
I realize that anybody who really wants to download it he will get it anyway, but I want to make it harder.

Your browser has to download the jar file if it's going to run the applet. That's applets work. The browser downloads the classes and then runs them locally.
I suppose if you wanted to make something to make it difficult for users to explicitly download the jar, you could set some kind of permission flag when the HTML is page is rendered, and then unset it some amount of time (10 seconds?) later, and then only let the user download the jar when the flag is set. But this would be fragile and irritating and unhelpful. It would probably break more than you'd like and not prevent download very much (it wouldn't take long to figure out what was happening), and besides nobody is ever going to try to steal your code.

How to prevent swf files being downloaded

I'm a teacher and I have some animations made in flash language (swf). I would like to publish these animations on my web site so my students could see, but I wonder if there is any way to prevent these animations being downloaded.
Example: when I see an animation published on my web site, this animation is stored in Internet Temporary Files and I can save this animation anywhere. How can I prevent an animation is stored in the temporary folder? In other words, this animation can only be seen if the user is logged on the site.

You could implement a kind of time-barrier, like in the trial versions you
download from softwarecompanys.
For the most users, that are not understanding actionscript and know how to
read the code, even if they decompile it, that would prevent the swf being
played after a certain date that you would have to implement in your code.
In AS2 the code would be like this:
