Change in behaviour in the extension  mechanism in 1.1

I am using the Georaptor extension, which adds an item in the contextual menu in the explorer window.
Practically speaking: I right-click on a table, and the resulting menu includes a "Georaptor" option that then leads to further options.
This mechanism worked OK in SQL Developer 1.0, but no longer in 1.1. - i.e. the "Georaptor" item no longer happens.
Any idea what caused that change of behavior ? I can try and fix the georaptor code, but I don't really know where to start ...
Thanks
Albert

Thanks for the hint, Brian.
The extension is listed as "loaded". Actually the extension works. The only missing function is the menu item in the right-click contextual menu associated with tables in the explorer menu.
I suspect that the extensibility API somehow evolved in such a way that setting up this contextual menu is now slightly different.
Is there any "debug" mode for SQL Developer - something I could trigger on startup to get more details about what happens ?

  • JRE 7 update 51 and the extension mechanism

I've developed an applet that uses Java extension mechanism to install an extension package. Both JARs are signed, and I have put this in the manifest:
    Permissions: all-permissions

    Caller-Allowable-Codebase: *
It works fine with the JRE 1.7 update 45, but with the last version of the JRE (1.7 update 51), I get the following error (NullPointer):

  • Extension mechanism

I have developed an applet which uses some utility classes bundled in a jar file. I didn't want the user however to have to download the utility classes in the jar file every time he wanted to use the applet so I thought of making it an optional package. Thus I used the extension mechanism so that the first time the user downloaded the applet he could install the utility jar file as an extension.
The problem that occured is this: From a utility class I load some images to display on the applet. The images reside within the utility jar file so I use the following code to load them:
    1:     URL url = this.getClass().getResource(imageName);
    2:     ImageIcon imageIcon = new ImageIcon(url);
When I didn't use the extension mechanism there was no problem!
When I did use extensions though a Null Pointer Exception was thrown
at line 2. Obviously the url is null.
This seems pretty strange to me because the image is loaded from within the jar file and the jar file has been downloaded (and installed). So what is the problem?
    Any help would be appreciated.

You are using a JVM that supports the extension
mechanism, I hope? Not the Microsoft JVM that comes
with Internet Explorer, for example? If so, then
perhaps you don't know where the extensions directory
really is. The system property "java.ext.dirs" (I
think) will tell you where it really is.
Having gone through this, you may want to rethink your
original idea that it would be more convenient for the
user to download and install the jar file. If you had
this much trouble, how easy would it be for somebody
    else?Hey there,
Wonder if you could help me sort something out while you're at it. In my older WIN95 OS I put my extension .jar files - if I remember right - in, say, C:\jdk1.3.1_03\jre\lib
    . . . and things worked fine.
I just upgraded to XP and I added my extensions to both C:\jdk1.3.1_03\jre\lib & C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3.1_03\lib\ext
. . . It finds the files fine, but my .jar files - that have in them some of the same files as in my extension .jar - are faultering. I'm trying to figure out if I need to add the CLASSPATH to my SYSTEM | ENVIRONMENTAL variable, or to my .jar applications. You have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance;
    ~Bill

  • Since the installation of Firefox 8, I cannot download a specific file type from email. I use this for work and MUST be able to open these files with a specific software. When FF opens the file, it changes the extension and it will not open. Help!!!

I use the Microsoft Outlook Web App for work email. I receive files with a .RXML extension. This has always worked just fine until the latest version of Firefox came out (I was using FF 7 until this weekend). Now FF changes the extension to .ashx when I open the file and I cannot download it into my software. If I go to the company internet site and download directly from there, it does the same thing. But I can open these files just fine from IE. I REALLY don't want to have to go back to IE.

I opened one of the PDF files in notepad and these are the first couple lines:

  • Are you sure you want to change the extension from... BLOCKS Finder Editing

This is weird and is driving me nuts, but some Macs do not allow further Finder editing of file or folder names if I change their names (usually including numbers, dots and so on) in such a way that I receive the warning:
Are you sure you want to change the extension from..?
After I confirm that I want to change the name, the Finder does it but gets locked for editing (I can do other things) and does not allow any further file or folder editing until I force quit of Finder or reboot the Mac.
I have found that if right after confirming that I want to change the name I select the file and hit return (which selects its name), no problem arises. But I must do it in one or two seconds, or else it will be too late.
    IN SUMMARY:
    1. Change file or folder name including numbers and dots at the end.
    2. Get the message "Are you sure you want to change the extension from..."
    3. Confirm that I want to change the name.
    4. FROM NOW ON, I CANNOT CHANGE THE NAME OF ANY FILE OR FOLDER UNTIL I FORCE FINDER QUIT. Unless of course I do the trick indicated above real quick!
Any hint? Any way to know what is going on? This could be a bug of Mac OS X 10.4.x or earlier or a problem with a third party application. But how to know what is going on to prevent it? As said, some Macs show this issue, but not others.
Note: some related issues on this section searching for:
    Finder Loses Keyboard Input

    For instance:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1974048
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1466505
Hint: some file or folder name changes are more prone to cause the issue than others. For instance, renaming a folder (and confirming it) as:
    Testing.r00
brings the bug 100% of the times.
Any idea of what is going on? Thanks.

The message is a warning that you are doing something that the OS thinks is going to possibly cause a problem. You are creating the situation and the OS is doing nothing other than what you are asking it to do.
I don't know any exact answer why you can't access your files, but I do know that there are a few characters and things that will cause problems because they mimic names of invisible files. When you make a name that is close to being the same it can treat the file as the special one... meaning you can only access it via Terminal.
Ones you cannot use at all: the colon (:), slash (/), single or double period as first characters. (taken from Finder Help with a naming files search) It is best to stay away from any special characters as a rule. Also avoid using a period and 3 character suffix unless it is one that you are purposefully assigning so the file belongs to an application.
That said... even with the over 200 applications on my system I couldn't repeat your Testing.r00 problem. So, I don't know if it may be application related or not.

  • Can you change the extensions in Adobe Muse from .html to .htm?

Can you change the extensions in Adobe Muse from .html to .htm?
I'm updating an old site where the extensions for the pages were all.htm. This means that when I upload the site index.htm is not being over written by index.html.

    Hi,
It is not possible to change the extension in Muse at the moment. You can export the site as HTML and change the extensions outside the Muse.

  • Mail changes the extension in attachments

Mail keeps changing the extension in file attachments. I can attach a word (.doc) document but when it sends it, the attachment is received as ".doc0". Therefore the receiver cannot open it. Same thing happens with PDF that is being sent as ".pdf0". Has anybody experienced this?

I found it! Why the extension changes.
It has to do with signatures!
When you place the PDF file just above the signature (or I guess inside), the extension changes name!
    This is my signature:
    Jonatan 'Kip' Kipowsky
    0709-XX XX XX
    [email protected]
Since I have TWO enters (for the air) above the line above my name, when I place the PDF file just above the line I place it INSIDE the signature.
I tried it high above the line and just over. Every time I placed it over, it changed the name, to .pdfdf and such.
    How did I find out?
I used at PDF file with spaces in the name, foregin letters (swedish), two different mail servers (smtp) and sent to two different adresses (yahoo.se and my own). I tried with text and without text in the mail. Tried waiting, so the message would be auto-saved and without. Tried all different ways. Yes, friends. For an hour I had no life!

    Kip

  • Why does the 'change all' button for file extensions revert the program?

    Hi Chaps,
I have a piece of analysis software produce a file with the extension .jdf and I need to open it with a particullar piece of software called Mestrenova to manipulate it. The problem is...jdf is also the extension of the Adobe acrobat job definition file. I can go into the file in snow lepord with 'get info' and change the individual files to default open with Mestrenova BUT as soon as I hit the 'change all' button, ALL .jdf files revert back to Acrobat defualt. It's infuriating and I have no idea how to resolve it without installing 3rd party software, which I'd rather not.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

  • How do I change the extension directory?

I installed JBuilder and it changed my extension directory from the default:
    JAVA_HOME\jre\lib\ext
    to:
    JBuilder8\jdk1.4\jre\lib\ext
how do I change it back?

    nevermind, found a solution:
    uninstall the jdk and reinstall.
it sets it back to \jre\lib\ext
(there's still the question of how to change the extension directory arbitrarily, but i'm not going to lose sleep over it)

  • What does Firefox team do to ensure that no change are introduced to the interface used by modules/pluig-ins/extensions ?

Every time there's an update my plug-ins seem to be at risk and some of them are not free, I am running v29 and I will roll back to a previous version and turn off any update/upgrade features, too much waste of time on my side.
I think Firefox team should learn to limit the changes they are doing specially if the interface with other add-ons is concerned. I worked in developement many years, I know it is fun and stimulating to introduce something new but it should never impact negatively the quality of the existing features so it requires discipline and patience, no place for impulsive actions.
When I get an update, I do not expect it to be a beta that impacts existing features.

Add-ons are developed by third-party developers, and as such there is no guarantee they won't break. We aren't responsible for them or for making sure the millions of add-ons in existence all work properly in every version of Firefox (If we were, we might as well give up on Firefox).
That being said, we do try to restrict breaking changes to the code that Add-ons use. Sometimes it is inevitable, but we make sure to give add-on authors plenty of warning (usually 12-18+ weeks) before a change that might break their extension. We also automatically check every extension installed on our site for things that might not work in new versions, and every extension that passes (the vast majority) are default to be compatible with the new version without the add-on author having to do anything.
Unless you have a third-party binary extension. These are commonly Anti-virus toolbars, etc. These extensions stop working with updates frequently. This is because these companies don't bother to read our notes of what's changing or to release updates for their software until after release.

  • Is there any tutorial for an extension that just changes a variable in the about:config?

    Hi all,
I am trying to create my first firefox extension, which will simply change the value of one of the about:config variables. I looked all over for tutorials that could help me, of course, but I found none that covers that specific matter (changing a variable of the about:config). Do you know any?
