Change login manager but still boot to same DE

Question

Ok, here is the story.
I have installed gnome and lxde.  I made the gnome GDM screen my default login screen, so it boots straight to that.
I also have x window manager installed which was originally started using startx, but with the GDM screen I no longer do that.
What I would like to do is have arch boot to the arch default login screen, just the text based screen.  However, I would still like to be able to successfully boot into the exact same LXDE environment.  I looked on the wiki but couldn't seem to find anything I could understand. 
For example:  I boot to the arch default screen, login, then type some other command which loads up lxde.
Any info on how to change it would be much appreciated.

That seems inconsistent.   I think you want to boot to the text login and then start LXDE.
What I do is to maintain a custom .xinitrc file in my home directory.:

Then, it is easy to pick which environment to start by setting the environmental variable WM to the name of the environment in the case statement.  for example, if I wanted i3, I would enter:
WM=i3 startx
This week, I am partial to openbox.  If I were to just say startx without setting WM, then it will default to openbox.
