Change the Database Name in Essbase Studio

Hi All,
Happy new year to all of you.
Is there a way to change the database name in Essbase Studio, what I can see now once we have registered a database in Database Sources panel, we can't change the Database Name because it is always grayed out but the server name, user name and password can be changed.
Actually I have mentioned this issue to our team before starting development and they proposed me the schema that I can use, but suddenly our client did not agree with it that we have been using, and then our client asked us to use another schema, FYI we are using Oracle Database as the data source.
Can you guys here share how to manage this situation.
Thanks,
Rudy

For Essbase Studio, the configuration metadata are saved as CP_tablenames, look for the CP tables, and make proper database change for the database name.
1. Make a Oracle backup for the CP tables before you change the metadata so that you can get back in case if error
2. Change the CP_CONNECTION TABLE, NAME column
3. Change the CP_SOURCE table, column DNAME, for example, it is called TBC.Sales, change to NewDB.Sales
I am not sure if there are other table also need to be updated, anyway, when you update the DBname in the metadata level, everything should be consistent in all of the related tables. Here, I assume the new db has the same table names as the old db, if the new db has very different table names, recreating everything may be easier and has less risk.

  • How can i change the database name on MaxDB?

    Hello.  I need to do a homogeneous copy where the source system is the productive system and the target system is the quality system. Therefore after to restore the data backup i need to change the database name of quality system (from CLP to CLQ) but i'm not sure that it could be possible because in the MaxDB documentation i didn't found nothing about that. please can you tell me if it is possible and how i change it?
    I work with MaxDB 7.6.04.11.  Thanks for your help.

    > I will try to explain better: the SID of the source database is CLP and the SID of the target database is CLQ, when you say "once you restore the DB, it will use the new SID", i understand that the new SID in the target database would CLP or am i wrong? and i need that the SID in the target database remains CLQ after the restore.
    Hi Ivonne,
    what you've described as your requirement is exactly what will happen, when you just perform the procedure that Eric described to you.
    A recovery won't change the SID of the instance you perform the recovery to.
    All it does is: take the instance as is and load the data pages to the data area. Afterwards the log files may be recovered.
    Think of the instance as a kind of container for your database.
    The instance itself is not the database - so the SID does not change with the content of the database.
    Hmm... why not simply try it?
    Create a little test instance and back it up.
    Create another instance with a different name and recover the backup of the first instance.
    You will still have both instances, each with its original name.
    regards,
    Lars

    Please help

    Yes as already said, using DBNEWID Utility can renamed the database name.
    You can also take a look at the Oracle Metalink Note:429674.1 (Which was written by me) - Subject: How We Used the Oracle DBNEWID Utility to Change the Database Name

    Hi,
    My issue is
    > I am able to issue the command
    alter database rename global_name to <new name with out domain name>
    Eg: Initially

  • Can I change the database Listener name in 11.5.10.2

    Hi Hussen
    Is it possible to change the Listener name and port on database node. My Application is of 4 node env. 2 rac database nodes 2 shared application tier nodes.
    My requirement is to change the Database node listener name and port.
    Thanks
    reddy

    Reddy,
    It is possible -- Please see (How to change the hostname and/or port of the Database Tier using AutoConfig [ID 338003.1]) for details.
    However, it is always recommended you have the ports on the application/database tier nodes within the same port pool -- See (How To change the Port Pool in the E-Business Suite 11i [ID 414439.1]).
    Thanks,

  • How to change the SID name in the server

    hi all,
    i installed oracle 10g R1 on windows 2003 server. i gave an sid and created a database. the database is new and there is no data in the db. now i want to change the SID name of the database. pls help me in doing this.
    regards,
    nagarjuna

    Hi,
    Just a notice: SID and DBNAME are two different things. But the usual practice is to have SID = DBNAME, so let me assume you want to change both SID and DBNAME.
    Either you can do it manually by recreating the controlfile as orawiss suggests. You may discover some challenges around the way (for instance, for the command CREATE CONTROLFILE SET "new_dbname" to work, you have do delete or rename the old controlfiles first).
    Or, you can change it easier by using nid utility. The detailed howto and all implications can be found on:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14117_01/server.101/b10825/dbnewid.htm
    Basically:
    SQL> create pfile from spfile;
    SQL> shutdown immediate;
    nid TARGET=sys/password@oldname DBNAME=newname
    copy the initoldname.ora to initnewname.ora and edit the DB_NAME parameter to reflect the new name
    sqlplus / as sysdba
    SQL> create spfile from pfile;
    SQL>startup mount;
    SQL> alter database open resetlogs;
    Then don't forget to generate new password file for the new dbname (using orapw) and make changes in tnsnames.ora and listener.ora if needed.
    Just make sure, the database has been properly shut down before changing the db_name either manualy by recreating controlfile or by the newid utility, as the renamed database has to be opened with resetlogs - making any crash recover of improperly shut down database impossible.
    Kind regards,
    Martin

  • Facing problem while changing the database at runtime

    hi everyone,
    Before posting this thread, i have gone through the various posts addressing the problem....but still iam unable to get the solution for this problem.
    The report has been generated in one system, so the database properties (connection string....) are hardcoded in the report file...
    Now when iam trying to change the database, it is still connecting to the system where the report file was created.
    I have tried the changeDatasource() method, but it didnot worked....
    here is the code for changeDatasource() method

    In the report i have two tables.............so before changing the database properties for each table iam printing their names.
    The names are dispalyed correctly.......but once i set the table location...i.e through the following method..
    clientDoc.getDatabaseController().setTableLocation(tables.getTable(i),newTable);
    every time i can see only one table i.e. properties are set for the first table ........and each time the properties are being set for the first table only.....i dont no what is happening to the rest of the tables..
    I have posted the method in the above post.....can any one please trace out the problem
    Note: when i comment the following code, i can see all the tables
    clientDoc.getDatabaseController().setTableLocation(tables.getTable(i),newTable);
    when i uncomment it, i can see only first table repeating every time...

  • Changing the table name while drill down at the dashboard query

    I have a DAY fact table that has about 1B rows.
    The purpose of this table is to store on hand quantity for each item per day.
    On the presentation layer I have a dashboard that will display average on hand qty per year and then user can drill down to quarter/month/week and then by day level to see the actual value at evey level.
    Its hard to run aggregation on fly as all my 3 TEMP tablespace 32gb each filled and then I get error can not extent TEMP file.
    So I thought I will do the aggregation at the database level and store the aggregated data in another table. So at first dashborad will read this new aggregated table to display qty at yearly. As soon as user drill down to quarter the dashbord should query the actual DAY fact table by filtering for specific year and quarter.
    IS it possible? Can I change the table name while I drill down to lower level?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi use,
    Yes. This is possible in OBIEE. You need to use Action Links to have navigation between reports. The main idea is to have 2 analysis. One with your aggregated data by year (using your aggregated table), and another one with the rest of the hierarchy and data (using normal fact table)
    You add an action link on this report, that can navigate to the second report. showing "the details" (in your case would be the rest of the time dimension).
    Please refer to http://www.rittmanmead.com/2010/07/obiee-11gr1-action-framework-and-conditions/ for actions links.
    Another way is to create 2 analysis, then go to the 2nd analysis, and filter the column year as "Is based on results of other analysis" and you select there the first analysis. In this case when you click on the year in the first analysis, this value will be passed to the second analysis so you can filter the rest of the hierarchy based on the year you clicked on the first analysis.
    If helpful, assign points.

  • Changing the file name of photo in Finder.

    I need to change the file name of my photos. I have changed the settings so that they show on iPhoto as 001, 002 etc - but I need this information to also be set in Finder. Is this possible?
    NikiKL

    No - iPhoto is a photo database and it controls the files - you can not - in fact must not (if you make any changes in the structure or content of the iPhoto library you will corrupt it and lose data) -- and there is no reason to - you have full access to your files - <a href-"http://web.me.com/larryhn/iPhoto08_(version_7.x.x)_FAQ/Accessing_iPhotoPhotos.html"> click here for a discussion of the many ways to properly and safely access your photos -- and you can always export them using the title for the file name to have them outside iPhoto with any name you desire

    Lightroom 6 is up and running.  Upgraded from LR5.  However I want to change the file name to be more generic, e.g., description in LR5 references LR5 and I want to change that to just John G's LR Catalog/Library.lrcat.  How can I accomplish this without fouling everything up?

    Ok, well you'll need to do something like this. Now this part is a little dependent on your database server:
           try {
                Class.forName("org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver").newInstance();
                Connection c = DriverManager.getConnection(
                                                           "jdbc:mysql://{database-server}/{database-name}:3306?user={username}&password={password}");
                Statement Stmt = c.createStatement();
                int count = Stmt.executeUpdate(cmd);
                if(count>0) {
                     System.out.println("count: " + count);
            } catch (Exception e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
        }That was some sample code for a MySQL database.
    Note that the applet can only contact the server that is was loaded from, so you might want to do a getCodeBase() or something like that to get the server address.
    Hope this is helpful.

  • Changing the field name at runtime in rpt file

    Hi everybody
    I'm using C# and Crystal Report XI (Deverlop license) to develop windows application in VS.net 2003.
    Please help me to change the field name of the bounded column of Crystal report file at the runtime.
    (In some case client's database had changed the structure as fieldname, fieldtype. Then they request a utility to change the field names in the .rpt file programmatically )
    Thanks

    That's fine but still i want to prefix the schema name within the .sql file. My .sql should contain the name of that parameter only as i want to get that parameter replaced by the schema name at runtime. Some other users are using the same .sql file and they have access to that specific schema only. i want to make the .sql file more general so that it can be used by everyone without altering it every time.Sorry, your requirement no longer makes sense.
    If people have to access a specific schema because they need the script for general use, then you will have to hard code the schema name into it.
    If the script is to prompt for the schema name and connect to that schema and then use that schema name inside the called sql script, then people would not be able to use it generically, as it would be reliant upon the schema name being passed in.
    It sounds as if you're trying to write one generic thing that needs to do two different tasks.
    Just have two scripts and make life simple.

  • Changing the field names in a CFQUERY object

    Hello, I wonder whether you know the answer to this?
    I want to change the names of the fields in a CFQUERY result
    set after I have retrieved the results from the database (ie. I
    can't use "AS" in the original SQL statement). I can think of 2
    ways to do this - use the query-a-query (CFSQL) feature or just
    build and populate a new query object, as set out below:
    <cfquery name="CustList" datasource="name">
    SELECT CustId,CustName,CustAddress FROM Customers
    WHERE OrderStatus='P'
    </cfquery>
    OPTION#1:
    <cfqueryname="GenericList" type="query">
    SELECT CustId AS Id,CustName AS Name,CustAddress AS Address
    FROM CustList
    </cfquery>
    OPTION#2:
    <cfset GenericList = QueryNew("Id,Name,Address")>
    <cfloop query="CustList">
    <cfset unused = QueryAddRow(GenericList)>
    <cfset unused =
    QuerySetCell(GenericList,"Id",CustList.CustId)>
    <cfset unused =
    QuerySetCell(GenericList,"Name",CustList.CustName)>
    <cfset unused =
    QuerySetCell(GenericList,"Address",CustList.CustAddress)>
    </cfloop>
    Do you know which of these would be more efficient? And is
    there a better way, whereby I can maniplulate the names of the
    columns in the original query (ie. so that I can rename the
    "CustName" field to "Name" and then use "CustList.Name" directly)?
    Thanks!

    Thanks guys!
    If there is a close to zero overhead to the simple
    query-a-query then that seems like the way to go, with no need to
    look for a means of manipulating or modifying the original query.
    The reason I want to change the field names is so that the
    rest of my code can contain references to "CustList.Name" whereas
    otherwise I would have to do something like
    "Evaluate('CustList.#NameField#')" which is horribly messy. And the
    way the original query is generated means I can't use "AS" in it,
    but I still want to use the same code to work with that query
    result and other query results that share similar/related data with
    different field names.
