Changing Default & System Master Pages In SharePoint 2013

I want to change the system master page & default master page of a SharePoint 2013 site collection. In Site Settings in the Look & Feel section Master Page is not at there. But there is Design Manager. In the design manager where can I change the
above mentioned Master Pages.

Hello,
If publishing is activated you can use the page /_layouts/15/ChangeSiteMasterPage.aspx
You can also use the Design Manager. Choose a theme and then you'll be asked for fonts, colors and...master page.
Hope this helps.

  • Create a custom Master Page in SharePoint Foundation 2013

    Hi,
    I am new to SharePoint foundation.
    I am trying to create a custom master page and save it as template, so that i can use it for all other sub sites. But i don't know where to start. Also i tries searching in Google, i got results for share point and not for share point foundation.
    So, Please give me a step by step procedure or a link to step by step procedure on how to create a master page, save it as template and use it for a sub site.
    Thanks in advance,
    Gowtham R

    Few points to note related to SharePoint Master page:
    You don't need to create master page template. If you deploy your master page in site collection level you can reuse the same master page in subsites without copying again and again, rather just by referencing
    You have not mentioned how you are going to deploy your master page. If you have any Visual Studio (VS) solution already, try to add your  master page in the VS solution and deploy your master page (and other branding components) as SharePoint WSP
    solution.
    Deploying master page will not activate the master page, you need to use some kind of 'Web Level Feature' to activate your branding - the feature will basically set the master page property of SharePoint site to your custom master page.
    Please follow the links below for steps by steps instructions (and you will find many just by googling 'sharepoint master page visual studio'):

    How to set site master page and system master page separetly in SP 2013,even setting different master pages through code or UI.Always only  single custom master page is getting applied for both.

  • Composed Look and System Master Page

    Hi,
    I have been able to create my composed looks, but it keeps resetting our System Master Page setting to match that of the composed look master page setting.
    My Question - Is there a way like an event reciever or something so I can extend the Composed Look list to set different System Master pages? Seems pretty cool to let users choose there own look, but we do not want to change the backend look and feel as
    a few scenarios remove useful key elements when in the backend from in the display if its a team site compared to a published site.
    I cannot use a web feature, or make it part of the site feature because there are multiple composed looks and i need it to apply the system master page when the user chooses "apply this look" or what ever that label is they click.
    Thanks

    I haven't test this but when you hit apply on a composed look the Composed Look list is supposed to be updated.
    I've read that SharePoint updates the 'Current Item' in this list to reflect your newly changed settings.
    You could try an event receiver on that list for Item Updated on the SPListTemplateType.DesignCatalog template type ID = 124, which is the Compose Look List.
    Found the reference
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/jj927175(v=office.15).aspx#section3
    When a user applies a theme in the Change
    the look wizard, the wizard also updates a theme named Current in the Composed Looks
    list and the design gallery. When you apply a theme programmatically, you have to update the Current theme manually. The following example shows how to update the Current theme.

  • Why are the web pages of SharePoint 2013 so devoid of colour and distinct boundaries and leave screen space unutilized

    Hi All,
    This was a comment from my business users who have worked with various versions of SharePoint. I understand SP 2013 has put in logic to make the web pages to be compatible with a wider set of browsers and screen form factors. Nevertheless, the issues raised
    by my business users are valid.
    Comparing a basic web part page of SP 2013 with SP 2007 and 2010, their feedback was:
    SP 2013 pages do not have clear boundaries
    SP 2013 pages are generally devoid of colour. This is makes it harder to visually distinguish links from ordinary text.
    SP 2013 pages appear to leave large swathes of screen space underutilized.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    1. When insert a web part in SharePoint 2013, you can edit the web part and change the appearance and layout of the web part.
    You can add the boundaries for the web part. (Edit page->select a web part ->edit the web part->in the appearance section->in Chrome Type, select title and border->after that you can see the boundaries).
    2. The color of the links depends on the theme you have selected in SharePoint 2013. Different themes set the different colors of the links. You also can customize the theme or composed look in SharePoint 2013.
    The article below is about how to create a SharePoint composed look.
    https://bniaulin.wordpress.com/2012/12/16/step-by-step-create-a-sharepoint-2013-composed-look/
    3. In SharePoint 2013, the space between different zones is set by default.
     The picture below is my page in SharePoint 2013.
    If there is much space between zones, to check:
    1. If input much space in web part in the SharePoint 2013.
    2. If input space in the web pert zone in SharePoint 2013.
    3. If the width has been changed in the below code in the page which you change the text layout.
    <table id="layoutsTable" style="width: 100%">
        <tbody>
            <tr style="vertical-align: top">
    <td style="width: 100%">

    </div>
    </td>
            </tr>
        </tbody>
    </table>
    The article below is about when you edit the page and choose one style of the text layout, some code will be added in page automatically.

  • How do I add multiple audio webparts to a page in SharePoint 2013?

    I need to add multiple media player webparts with audio files to a page in SharePoint 2013 so users can click the play button, listen to the file, then vote for the audio they like best. The problem is I can only get one audio to play at a time, and only
    in certain browsers. I can get them to work intermittently in a Chrome browser, but not IE 10. When I publish the page and click the play arrow, it played the first time. Then I added two more audio player webparts to the page, and linked them to different
    audio files (m4a and mpg). Now only one audio player will work, not the other 2.

  • Does anyone know how to customize a Site page on SharePoint 2013? Also does anyone have any recommendations on course to take to learn this?

    Hello All,
    I am new to using the 2013 SharePoint and want to customize the site pages that was set up by someone else. The problem is when i click on the site pages I only see the option to upload and new. So the pages that have been uploaded in the past i clicked
    on them and when they come up it just shows the title of the site page with edit links button on the top.
    So basically you are not able to do anything. Does anyone know if this is a permissions issue and if it is how do i give myself admin rights

    "Content Place holders are only allowed in master page"
    Can anyone tell me how do i insert left navigation in page layout which is created through sharepoint designer (.aspx file) but master page is created through design manager

    Hi  ,
    As the error says, you need to  add Content Place holders to Mater Page not the Page Layout.
    For  inserting  left navigation, you can add Vertical Navigation SharePoint component to the master page using Snippets  manager:
    1.
    Open the site then click design manager link from right top corner "Settings".
    2.
    Click “Edit Master Pages” link.
    3.Click your custom mater page. It will open preview page.
    4.
    Once open the preview page then click Snippets menu from top right side. It will open “Snippet Gallery” in new tab page.
    5.
    Click the Vertical Navigation menu item in “DESIGN “tab.
    6.
    In this page we can easy to configure component properties.
    After customization must click the update button then only the changes are reflected in the component snippet.
    7.
    Once click the update button the HTML code automatically generated in the “HTML snippet” box and click “Copy to Clipboard” button.
    8.
    Open the mapped network drive then open the Mater Page HTML file and paste HTML snippet where you want the navigation to show.

  • Add Right Side Column and Web Parts to custom Master page in SharePoint Online

    Hello everyone,
    I hope this is a simple question, however I was fighting the issue it presents for a while. I am in the process of customizing SharePoint Online Look-and-feel with a new layout.
    The site collection was created as a
    Team Site before I got involved with the project, and populated with numerous sub-sites and pages. I activated required
    publishing features, created html with corresponding styles and graphics, and used the Design Manager to convert the html file to the custom Master page. While SharePoint automatically assigned “ContentPlaceHolderMain” div area, I
    also used default Oslo page as example to copy sections of the code for dynamic components (left column and navigation, recent items, the ribbon, etc.) from it and placed them in my new master page, pointed all CSS references to
    my custom style sheets, etc. Everything works great, however I need to make one last addition -
    my task is to make changes to display web parts such as Calendar and Recent Documents in the right column in the Master page.
    My custom layout has a header, footer, main pan and two side columns. Most of the default master templates come with the LEFT column already embedded and populated with several placeholder
    to serve dynamic content (PlaceHolderLeftNavBarTop, PlaceHolderQuickLaunchTop, PlaceHolderLeftNavBarDataSource, PlaceHolderLeftActions, so on).
    My challenge is that I have the RIGHT side column as well, for which I don’t think the default placeholder exists. I need to add a small Calendar box and Recent Documents parts to it, so they
    display across the entire site governed by this master page.
    The issue is –
    even after activating Publishing features (enabled SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure under Site Collection Level, and SharePoint Server Publishing under the Site
    Level), there is no Snippet feature (usually available under the generic Publishing Site); this customization of the Team Site allows using Designer and apply custom templates, themes, so on, just like you would under the Publishing collection, but not the
    Snippet utility I could use as the solution to embed the web parts on the master page.
    Recreating the entire site under Publishing Collection is not an option due to the directions I was given, I am to use this existing one, and need to see if
    there is a workaround to either activate the Snippet feature or use another solution to display the web parts inside of the column in the Master page.
    If the only solution is to use Web Part Zone, what are the steps to add it AND populate it with the abovementioned apps?
    Can anyone suggest how to create a workaround and add this feature? The environment is role-based so both elements need to be dynamically rendered based on the user’s role and activities.
    I am more of a front end designer than developer, so if any custom coding and set up required, please kindly provide some basic steps, if possible?..
    I greatly appreciate any help and suggestions!
    Thank You!

    Updating your Master Page to also include a right rail should be sraight forward enough with a new div or divs in your master page and then the proper styles to make room for this column as well as position the column.
    I have not seen why you cannot find the snippet gallery link when previewing a HTML Master Page in the browser. Have you tried loading the snippet gallery by its url? As an example, for my tenant on SPO, I can load the Snippet Gallery for the olso.master
    with the following url:
    https://pixelmill.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/ComponentConfigureControls.aspx?ComponentName=TopNavigationNoFlyoutWithStartNode&Url=%2F_catalogs%2Fmasterpage%2Foslo.master
    Change the domain to match yours as well as update the "Url" querystring var to point to your master page. See if that loads the snippet gallery.

  • Prevent Site Members to view Site Contents Page in SharePoint 2013

    I created SharePoint 2013 Site and it has 5 variation sub sites as well. Each site has several pages. I have end users added to Site Members group who should access all the Custom pages. Customer has raised a security issue, end users are able to access
    Site Contents page by supplying the link in the URL. I tried adding these end user to site visitors but unfortunately they are not able to access variations sub sites custom pages.
    Kindly help me how to solve this.

    Little confuse.
    You want to stop users from viewing page or you want them to to be able to view pages
    Which pages are they able to view.
    Just follow below steps to prevent users form accessing application pages
    http://blog.mastykarz.nl/preventing-authenticated-visitors-browsing-system-pages/
    You can even try this powershell
    param (
        $WebApplicationUrl
    $wa = Get-SPWebApplication $WebApplicationUrl
    $wa.PolicyRoles.Add("Deny System Pages",
    "", "EmptyMask", "ViewFormPages")
    $wa.Update()
    $claimType = "http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/2009/08/claims/identityprovider"
    $claimValue = "AspNetMembership"
    $claim = New-Object Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.Claims.SPClaim($claimType,
    $claimValue, "http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema#string", [Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.Claims.SPOriginalIssuers]::GetIssuerType("SecurityTokenService"))
    $encodedClaim = $claim.ToEncodedString()
    $policies = $wa.ZonePolicies("Default")
    $policy = $policies.Add($encodedClaim
    , "Authenticated visitors")
    $policy.PolicyRoleBindings.Add($wa.PolicyRoles["ViewFormPagesLockDown"])
    $wa.Update()
    If you want restrict users to access some specific page, the you need to remove inheritance of the site

  • Pages don't reflect changes in their master page

    I'm using InDesign CS5.5 (v. 7.5.3) with Mac OSX 10.8.4. I found one old question about this problem in another forum (with no submitted answer):
    Assume you have a simple document with one master which simply features a text frame. Well, now if you add some inset spacing to the text frame on the master, this is immediately reflected on the pages to which the master had been applied. However, if you edit the master again and set the inset spacing back to zero, the text frames on the pages to which the master had already been applied keep the inset spacing. If one adds new pages, the text frames have no inset spacing, as I would expect. Can someone tell me why InDesign behaves this way... i.e., why are the changes to the master not reflected on the assigned pages when I set the inset spacing back to zero.
    This question was asked re CS 2.0. The problem seems to remain in CS 5.5.

    I made the changes to the frame inset in the master pages. This is a normal setting for frames, and not complex--and in any case, the point was that I had mistakenly set an inset value, but wanted to reset it to zero, so really nothing to create as an object style. So I reset the value to zero in the master pages. No update. I tried reapplying the changed master page to the doc pages. No update.
    You note: "And if you reset the text frame in the Master it won't reflect in the pages."
    Is this a known feature/bug? Why shouldn't inset values be part of master text frames and thus updated with them? It doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
    Thanks for the suggestion about object styles, though. I don't think it applies here, but I can see the usefulness elsewhere, and I've never really looked at them.
