Changing Internet Explorer Settings Programatically

Hello
This is my second Post of the same question,
I want to change the Settings of internet explorer programaticaly throgh java plz help me how can i do it , specially enabling and disabling the option "NEVER DIAL A Connection"
plz help

If it's possible at all (which it must be) then it's possible through Java, most likely through JNI (Java Native Interface), which acts as a 'go-between' to allow Java to make calls to platform-specific functions, in this case reading from and writing to the Windows registry.
Access to some properties and functions of Internet Explorer is available through the browser's Document Object Model, normally accessed through JavaScript, but I don't think this is one of those properties.
I think for your specific need -- setting dial-up options -- you'll be looking at JNI. If this is a program designed to do only this then Java may not be the bext choice.
If JNI seems like overkill, you could write a snippet of VBScript or JavaScript, which can run through the Windows scripting engine (think that's what it's called) and use Runtime.exec(...) to call it as an external program from Java. Another option, handy if you can't guarantee the scripting engine being installed on your clients' PCs, is to write a small VB app and call that externally.
If this is to run as an applet, inside your client's browser, then you'll also have to look at signing the applet so it can be trusted, otherwise it won't accomplish any of these things.
Hmmm... maybe this hasn't helped at all, but I hope it's some use!
Chris.

    Hi,
Have you tried to run gpresult and check what GPOs are successfully applied in the new profiles?
For IE ESC, if you enable this setting, it will automatically change the Internet Explorer Security Zone settings, such as Internet Zone, the security level is set to high, etc. To eliminate the cause, I suggest you turn off it as a test.

  • Automate reset of a users Internet Explorer Settings - Script?

We are in the process of rolling out IE9 on Win 7 x64 PC’s.
This is going fine, however we have noticed issues that requires a complete reset of the IE settings and user files.
What we need at this point after IE9 installs is to have an automated way to:
Under ‘Reset Internet Explorer Settings’ do this.
Delete all of the users IE cached/temp files under their App Data folder.
Back in Internet Properties, do a ‘Restore Advanced Settings.’
Looking online, there is no GPO option for this.
We cannot do this on 1500+ pcs manually.  I tried
looking online for scripts, but nothing could be found to meet our needs.
Whatever script we can find, we would probably use SCCM so the script could run with admin rights.
Anyone experience something like the above?
What was your solution or do you have a link with solid documentation on how to resolve.

    Hi,
do you have more details about
"however we have noticed issues that requires a complete reset of the IE settings and user files"
an update from IE8 to 9 will also probably require updates to any third-party addons that are installed on the machines.... Incompatible addons is the biggest cause of issues with IE version updates.
Modify your IEAK or slipstream image to disable third-party browser helper objects when the update is installed.
IE8 does not use user app data folders. Are you mapping the user folders to a shared dirve? G: ?
    Rob^_^
Users are not having any compatibility issues with add-ons.  Please see 1-3 as listed for what we are hoping to find.  And no on the mapped shared drives, etc.
    Please give details... what issues?
"however we have noticed issues that requires a complete reset of the IE settings and user files"
IE8 does not use user app data folders...... IE Reset disables addons, and deletes selective user data from the application caches and resets the Security zone settings to their default...
The only known issues that you may be experiencing is with Search Provider Addons....
particularly if you are upgrading from 7 to 9 or higher.
Use IEAK or GPO to enforce your Security Zone templates.
Use GPO to restrict access to the Security tab of IE options if you don't want users to change security settings.
    Rob^_^
Hi Rob.  Yes its best if I give a bit more info...
We are rolling out a new company wide app that is dog slow with IE8.  Seen a significant improvement speed wise with IE9.  We are using SCCM to rollout IE9, after this is done, it forces a reboot of the PC.  Some of our users (not all) are
getting prompted to 'pop up blocker is turned on.  ‘Do you want to allow this website, etc, etc.'  Yes the URL is in trusted sites.  When the user tries to select 'add the url to allowed' nothing happens.  Still get the prompt.
IE becomes unresponsive and cannot navigate off of the page.  If we do a complete IE reset (basic reset and Advanced Settings reset), PLUS delete all of the ‘Custom Settings’ then this resolves the issue.
This is the path:  C:\Users\%user%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Custom Settings
So that’s what we are trying to do via script.

  • Internet explorer settings

    hi all
i have seen so many times , in any sap servers for eg in sap crm when we click some things which opens internet explorer page , it shows page can,t be displayed.
what are the settings to be made for that?
    thanks
    akhil

    Hi,
Yes, many times, all new SAP products uses IE. In order to to work properly, you need to configure all your settings in SAP side. You need not do anything in IE side, except may be enabling popup blocker. (this can be done instantly by holding control key).
    Thank you,

  • Running Reset Internet Explorer Settings from a remote machine for a user.

Before I tell them it can't be done, I figured I would check with the experts here!  Here is my scenario.
    1) no GPO access
    2) All 60,000 workstations are windows xp :(
    3) They want a powershell script to reset all the internet ie settings back to default
    4)  It would need to be a silent install with no prompting on the client machine
    5) They will not enable winrm on the workstation so I can not utilize invoke
I have tried to utilize psexec within the powershell script and the neither the
    MicrosoftFixit50195.msi nor the RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ResetIEtoDefaults work.
I have also ran process monitor on one of the machines while the above patches are being applied.  There is no way to change the values of all 5400 reg keys that the patch overwrites. :(
If I could narrow down the amount of keys to a sane amount, I know I have used the format below sucessfully.
    & c:\TEMP\paexec.exe \\$machine -d -e -h -lo c:\TEMP\psexec.log -u $user -p $password cmd /c reg add "HKU\$sid\software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings" /v ProxyEnable /t REG_DWORD  /d "1" /f

Have you tried running the executables by setting the RunOnce key?

  • Mm_menu.js HTML5 changes Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox

    Mozilla Technical Support,
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ie/bg182625(v=vs.85).aspx
mm_menu.js is an output of Dreamweaver and enables drop-down menus. Microsoft is eliminating
document.all and replacing it with document.getElementById
    to comply with HTML5 standards
I modified mm_menu.js as Microsoft recommended (so I thought) and it worked perfectly well in Internet Explorer. However, I couldn’t get the drop-down menus in Mozilla Firefox. What do I need to do to get mm_menu.js to work or does Firefox need to make additional modifications?
FYI, I tried using the following quick fix which resulted in the Internet Explorer page displaying incorrectly:
    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=9"/>
See below for the modified version of mm_menu.js
It would be nice if the same javascript worked in both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.
    Thanks,
    Robin Rembish

Yeah, it would have been nice if IE had followed web standards over the years before IE11 came out so that programs like Dreamweaver would have "gotten it right" from the beginning, instead of their users having to "patch" the code output by Dreamweaver to make it compatible now. That's what the "like Gecko" is all about = make it work like Mozilla.
Try posting at the Web Development / Standards Evangelism forum at MozillaZine. The helpers over there are more knowledgeable about web page development issues with Firefox. <br />

  • 7.7 not opening and has changed internet connexion settings

Looks like many people are having a problem with 7.7.
For me, not only has the iTunes icon been replaced with the one of a piece of paper and 2 crossed pencils - like a draft copy - which won't open, but I have also lost my internet connexion. I am using a friend's computer at the moment. Has anyone else had the same?
I want to reinstall iTunes and the internet settings from Timemachine but I am afraid of losing things in the process. Has anyone done this yet?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Would you like to show me your internet environment?
    Same situation on Chrome?
If your machine is connected to internet via wifi on WPA2(AES, 11n), please try to change this wifi condition to WPA(TKIP, 11g).
In my case, resolved internet connection issue like this.

  • Adjusting Internet Explorer settings when used within VFP9

I have created a form and placed and OLEControl OleClass Shell.Explorer.2 into it.
    I can using statements like
    Thisform.HTMLViewer.Navigate(m.tcUrl)
    m.loDocument = Thisform.HTMLViewer.Object.Document
get to show web pages and get access to properties and attributes within the web Document.
However, I am finding that numerous web pages (not under my control) contain Scripting errors.
When using standalone IE under the Options settings I have "Display a notification about every script error" turned off.
However, when using IE within the VFP9 form I get an IE dialog showing me all these Script errors on the sited visited.
Does anyone know how to turn these off within the VFP9 OleControl environment?
Any examination of the OleControl object does not show anything that is likely to have the desired effect.
    The English Bob

Silent is all about script errors, as it seems.
    <!doctype html>

    w1.focus(); </script>
    </body>
    </html>
Loading this into a web browser control the Microsoft site pops up, even when setting Silent = .T.
Even simpler alert('test'); also shows up.

  • How do I stop Firefox from removing Internet Explorer settings (passwords, Google preferences etc) every time I use FF and go back to IE?

I have FF 3.6 and IE6 on the same XP machine. I have no choice
re IE6. FF is only there to allow me to access non-IE6
compatible sites. Most sites I use are on an intranet and
    must use IE6.
Typically, if I have to use FF for something, after doing so
my IE6 settings (mainly cookies) for things such as usernames,
passwords, Google preferences etc are lost. This is reproducible
    behavior.

Well, it's doing something - by design or otherwise. The only time the settings for websites I access via IE disappear is after using FireFox.

  • Issues with Server 2008 R2 GPO Settings Being Applied To Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7

We are working on a new domain and I'm trying to figure out how to populate the default Home page, Trusted Sites and the Proxy now that Microsoft has removed the IEM from the GPO's.
I have created a standalone policy that only has these items set in the User Configuration Preferences and the settings are not updating for my test user account on the test system.  I see the policy is being applied without any errors.  The only
other GPO that is being applied to this system is the Default Domain Policy and it is at the default settings.
Why would Microsoft take away such a basic and fundamental administrative function?  I'm trying to figure this out before all support ends for the older versions of IE in January, 2016.  I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to get this configured
so I don't have to touch every system.

Hi Karen and thanks for the reply.  I'm having to use my personal Microsoft account as I was unable to reconnect to this one.  The only settings in this group policy that is set are the 3 fields (Home page, Security level for Trusted Sites and
Proxy script under the LAN Settings) under the User Configuration Preferences.   There is nothing configured under the Computer Configuration section.
I have my test computer and user in a Test OU with this policy linked to it.  The only policy being applied to this system through inheritance, is the Default Domain Policy (all default settings).  Attached is the link to the gpreport.html that
    you requested.
I am very aware of making sure there are no other settings in the same as well as other policies that can overwrite the desired settings.  This is why I have created a policy with only these few settings as a test to ensure that they work.  I'd
be grateful if you would review the result file below and could come up with some suggestions that I could try.  Thanks a bunch.

If you're using Group Policy Preferences (GPP), a common mistake for those new to using GPP, is to misunderstand the F5/F6/F7/F8 configuration step (particularly for the Internet Explorer settings):

  • Internet Explorer 7.0 not recognizing mimetype/msexcel

    I am using
    1. Forms [32 Bit] Version 10.1.2.0.2
    2. Internet Explorer Version 7.0.5730.11
    3. Microsoft Excel Version 11.0
    4. JInitiator 1.3.1.21
    Forms calls a report using
    web.show_document(url + server (https:\\....) + &mimetype=application/msexcel&title=temp.xls' ,'_BLANK');
and the report output opens in Excel Spreadsheet. In the report, desformat = DELIMITED.
Now, after installing Internet Explorer 7.0, the report output fails to open the output in Excel. I get a window 'File Download - Security Warning' with the following information
    Name: getjobid1234
    Type : unknown File Type
    From : server name
    with three buttons (three options)
Find button, Save button, Cancel button
    1. Find button takes me to microsoft.com site and gives additional information like mimetype/excel and does nothing else.
Did anyone face this problem? Does anyone has a solution?
I know it has something to do with Internet Explorer settings. I am trying by changing the options.
    Any help is appreciated.

    - it takes a while to loadCut down on the toolbars you show on it. The less toolbars you have on the editor the faster it loads. It's some fairly complex javascript though so you it's going to take a second to initialize from what I remember tinyMCE is comparable in that regard.
    - I was not able to perform any javascript validation
of the user text. This is important because if you
have to rely on ApEx validation to verify that the
user entered text is less than 32k, the text is lost
and the user gets pissed.Use the save over 32k code example here http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/packaged_apps/sample_code.html
I've saved up to 12 megs of text no problem. Or you need to keep trying with your js validation it should work, as far as js is concerned the form item is still accessible and you can check the length using standard javascript to stop the form submission

  • Why does unchecking the "use automatic configuration script" box on Internet Explorer 8 fix connectivity errors?

As long as I have been in the job and we have been using IE as our browser, we have controlled the proxy settings with an automatic configuration file.
Recently, with IE8 on WinXP and Win7, we have had situations with the user getting various connectivity errors. By unchecking the "use automatic configuration script" box, they start working. But we don't change anything else.
These error are not consistent from machine to machine.
We are in a AD Domain environment
These are the two errors I have documented.
    Error: 5
Description: The 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine.
Access to resrouce is forbidden by server while attempting to access server at
    http://content.mpl.org/cgi-bin/admin/pwtest.exe?CISOVER=60.
Please check the permissions to the file on th eserver.
Two very different problems. Both somehow fixed by unchecking the box.
The config file itself has not been changed in over a year.
Can anyone explain why unchecking this box, but not making any other changes to the proxy settings would fix connectivity problems? These are all external sites that need to go through the proxy.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
You can use the steps in the following thread to disable this option:
uncheck "use automatic configuration script" in IE LAN settings
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverGP/thread/05a7c683-075e-435c-8583-da8fd3559cf2
    Or try to
reset Internet Explorer settings and select use automatic configuration script to see whether it could work.
    Hope this helps.

  • Internet Explorer refuses to navigate

Since the mid-august Windows update, I have a really strange problem with IE: most of time, it refuses to navigate from a site to another, and on some sites (eg. bing.com) it refuses to navigate inside the site itself.
Funny fact: if I opened an add-on panel which I wrote and does not interfare with navigation, then IE accepts to navigate, as long as the target is in the same page.
If I try to open a page in another tab or another window, it never works.
In all cases, it marks the hyperlink as navigated.
Finally, if I copy the shortcut and enter it in the address bar, it works perfectly.
I have already tried to uninstall/reinstall IE, use another account on the same machine, it does not change anything.
    Configuration=Windows 8.1, 100% up to date
    Thanks !

  • Third party cookie block on Internet Explorer

I blocked third-party cookie access on IE, now every time I try to open IE, a window pops up asking to allow or block. Regardless which choice I make or how many times, it will not go away. Hello wendy1960,
Since you are unable to access the menus in Internet Explorer it can be a little tricky. Microsoft does have a tool available that allows end users to do a lot of fixes on their computers, there is even one that is specifically designed to reset internet explorer to the default settings.
Try running the tool to see if it helps resolve your issue. You can find it on this page
