Changing menu/title in Mac OS X

I learned how to move the Swing menu to the top of the page*, but the left most menu item item still shows as the fully qualified class name of my application object, e.g. "com.dink.donk.MyApp". I would like to change that to just "MyApp" but I can't find the API or the property or whatever to do that. Anybody here have the answer?
* to do this just System.setProperty("apple.laf.useScreenMenuBar", "true"); in your startup() method.

I saw that in the Apple programmer's guide -- the problem is that this attribute is external to the JAR file that I want to deploy. The attribute is on the command line.
It turns out the answer (I haven't learned how to do it yet) is to bundle the Java application in a format specific to MacOS -- you don't just send the user a JAR file to deploy. Annoying but I'm not going to fight it.

  • Menu/Title page of DVD blurry

I have a new MacBookPro and just tried to burn my first DVD in iDVD8.
    I used 7.0 Themes - Centerstage.
When I playback the DVD, the text on the main menu/title page looks fuzzy.
    Not crisp like in iDVD.
    I checked the DVD on:
    '08 MacBookPro, 1440x900x32bit
    '09 iMac, 1680x1050x32bit
When I play the DVD full screen, it looks fuzzy.
If I shrink the window to 1/4 of the screen size, it then looks OK.

    Hi
Way out of my doing HD 16x9 but any how I got a list on DVD quality - read and
see if You find anything of use.
    *DVD quality*
    1. iDVD 08 & 09 has three levels of qualities.
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality (movies up to 120 min.) - BEST
    • Best Performances (movies less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
    2. From
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not selfcontaining, no conversion)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly eg x1 (in iDVD’08 or 09 this can also be set)
This can also be done with (Apple) Disk Util tool.
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc).
    5. Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW)
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVD at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while befor next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on.
    • HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
    • What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
    • What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JESDeinterlacer3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS. They are plabacked by a Mac - then You need not to care
    • What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
    • How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD’08 or 09
Pro Quality (only in iDVD 08 & 09)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choise)
    1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD 08 & 09
    2. Project info. Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD 08 & 09.
    Region codes.
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes.
    1 = US
    2 = EU

  • Batch change of titles

I was just sorting my photos of my last vacation (around 1100). For better orientation I changed the titles of the photos by batch change, with automatically generated subsequent numbers. When I used the 'sort by titles' command from the menu my whole sorting of my photos got mixed-up. Because the automatical sorting of iPhoto does not support simple subsequent numbers!!! Instead of 1, 2, 3...9, 10, 11 iPhoto is sorting 1, 10, 11, ...2, 20, 21, ... This is simply outragous! I could strangle the guy who programmed this part and didn't think of this simple issue. He or she was probably a former Microsoft worker!

When using numbers to order files, it is necessary to pad the correct number of zeros in the earlier numbers. Meaning, if you have 99 files, you need to start with 01, 02, 03. If you have 100 to 999 files, then you have to start with 001, 002.
This is true with titles in iPhoto, but also true with the order of any files in the Finder. Simple issue or not - it's been this way with Mac for quite some time.
    Regards.

  • How do I change the title FAQ to Knowledgebase?

We've widened the use of the FAQ (module) to be a knowledgebase.  But, we have not been able to change the title on the detail page from FAQ.
Is there a way to change the title?

Batch renaming is not yet implemented in Photos. As a work-around for now you can search for Automator scripts that will do it.
Sort order of Album list, Album contents and Folder contents can be changed by checking or unchecking the Keep Sorted By... option under the View menu. I know, very limited options...
You can request features, point out bugs, etc, at Apple Feedback pages:

Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select Change Settings for Keychain "login". In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.

  • Automatic refresh of photo order when changing photo titles in iPhoto 9.6

I've just moved from an older version of iPhoto to 9.6.
In the previous version, when you changed the title of a photo (within an event), the sort order of the photos was automatically and immediately updated.  In 9.6 it isn't - I have to do View - Sort Photos then select another sort criteria (e.g. date), then do this again for title, to get the photo order to refresh.
Does anyone know if I am I stuck with this new (retrograde) behaviour, or if there's a way to get iPhoto 9.6 to automatically refresh the photo order?
Otherwise, is there a keyboard shortcut for refreshing the photo order, or for changing the view - sort photos criteria?
Thanks in advance for any help!

It will resort if you leave the Event (click All Events button) and then go back.  Not a good solution but quicker IMO than using the View ➙ Sort menu method.

  • Changing file title

    Hi,
I have an RTF template and would like to change the file title dynamically. You can hard code this title by using Word, going to File->Properties menu and updatng the title box.
I would like to change the title during generation time of the report by either using parameters or XML data. Is there anyway of doing this?
In XSL, this title is stored in fo:title element in the fo:page-sequence element...
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Is there a way to save the iphoto title as the file name without individually exporting then importing back into iphoto?
No. iPhoto tracks the pics by their path on the HD and this would change the path. iPhoto will then lose the pics.
The main reason I want to have the iphoto titles for all of these pics is to save the double, sometimes triple handling involved if I am looking for the pics in other places
Anywhere you search for the pics you can search on Title, you don’t need to use Filename.
to send large numbers of photos to others and they receive them as file names not iphoto titles when i email them
If they are using any sort of Photo aware app to view them, they will see the titles.
or I have to keep opening them to see what they are in other areas-like the picture library for instance
But why would you be doing that? That’s what your Photo Manager is for.
If I don't import from my camera directly into iphoto what other options do i have that are not going to be time consuming?
Use Image Capture to move the pics from your Camera to the HD. Rename the files and then import them.
I really don’t think it’s necessary to actually rename the files. IF you can describe your workflow for searching or accessing the pics I think we might be able to suggest an alternative way to access them without or without opening iPhoto.

  • Is it possible to change the title of a webpart using client object model/c#/sharepoint online

    Hi folks!
I have been busted my butt trying to Write a program changing the title of an existing webpart on on of our subsites on SharePoint online. But I keep getting an error in the very last context.executequery. Tried a bunch of different approaches, but I can't
make it work. Before I start posting code; I Wonder if anyone have ever done this?
Its a plain Windows form application, using Visual studio Express and the Client Object model. (Listsing the titles of the webparts Works but changing titles seem impossible. Thought it might be a checkin/out problem but it doesn't make a difference).
Any help would be highle appreciated.
    Lars

It depends: are you using the default style for Text Captions? In that case you can change the default style in the Object Style Manager and have it applied to all Captions.
Or you can change one text caption, and in its Properties panel choose the option 'Save Changes to existing style' from the menu top right (see screenshot). Both methods will work if you didn't override the default Caption Style for those captions. Beware: Quizzing objects can use another style.

  • Can I universally change the title styles in my iMovie? I don't want to retype everything in the new style!

Can I universally change the title styles in my iMovie? They're all set in "Lower Third" and I need to change all of them to "Gradient White" and I don't want to retype everything in the new style! It'll take forever, as I have many titles in this movie.

Interesting.  http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0/#mov9c5e9641f  describes how to change a title.  I tried selecting 2 titles then chaging the style but it didn't work for either.  So it seems the answer is no (though it should be yes).

  • IPhoto 8.1.2 crashing when changing photo title

iPhoto 8.1.2 is crashing (or hanging up -- I get the spinning color wheel and I have to force quit it) when I change the title on many of my photos.  It happens when I hit return or try to click on another picture after entering the new title.  It only seems to happen with photos that were imported before a particular date (about July 1 2009), and it does not happen with movies.  I have tried rebuilding the library, but this did not change the behavior.  The same thing happens whether I edit the title beneath the photo or in the information window on the lower left.
Any thoughts on how to diagnose or fix this problem?

Make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • What is the menu title to show original file to map to keyboard shortcut

Does anyone know what "menu title" to use for File > Show in Finder for a keyboard shortcut?
I just updated to itunes 10 and discovered my keyboard shortcut CMD-R to show the original file is broken and no longer works. Apparently Apple changed it to CMD-Shift-R. This is no longer consistent with the way CMD-R shows the original file in the Finder or in the search results and I want to set it back using the keyboard shortcut system preferences.
When I select itunes and put in the menu title "Show in Finder" which is what it displays with CMD-Shift-R it changes in the menu, but it doesn't work and then neither does CMD-Shift-R. quiting and restarting itunes makes no difference.
Does anyone know of a fix?
    Thanks.

I tried to do something similar in Firefox for mapping copy to F3. I tried the methods you used even tried a keymapping plugin for Firefox as well as the suggestions below. None of them worked and I could only conclude that some applications have functions coded into them in some ways we cannot change.

    Actual:

Nothing I have tried in the template makes the BODY tag editable. That's why I'm wondering how to disconnect the template from the individual pages. Adding an ID to each body tag is a prerequisite of the how-to page you supplied.
You don't make the <body> tag editable in a Template.
You make attributes of the <body> tag editable.
Don't disconnect the Template from the child pages.
Specify editable tag attributes in a template
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/dreamweaver/cs/using/WScbb6b82af5544594822510a94ae8d65-7aa3a.h tml
    In the Template:
Select the <body> tag (either in the Tag selector or click inside the <body> tag in Code View)
Modify > Templates > Make Attribute Editable
Select ID from the Attribute dropdown menu
If there's no existing ID attribute then click Add and type ID into the next dialogue box
    Attribute: ID
Check the box to "Make attribute editable"
Enter anything into the Label field as a default e.g. foo
    OK
Dreamweaver will change the <body> tag to read <body id="@@(foo)@@"....
    Now the ID is editable
Save the Template and update the child page
    In each child page:
    Modify > Template Properties
Select the id attribute from the list (it's probably the only one listed)
Change its name in the box to whatever name matches your CSS rule for the active state for that page
    OK
    Save
    Upload

  • Batch Change - start title number later

I really like using the Batch Change feature to change the title of a group of photos to "Trip 01 - " etc. and in the past this has been a great way to put "Trip" (or whatever word) in the title and then have a different number for each photo prior to adding details. But, currently I am halfway through a trip and have imported many photos, and realized that when I take more pictures and import them later on I do not know how to batch change them to restart the numbering. For example, let's say I have 200 photos. The first 200 will come out as "Trip 001", "Trip 002" ... "Trip 200" but then when I import more photos and do batch change the new photos will be renamed starting with "Trip 001" whereas I want them to start at "Trip 201" to continue the prior set of numbers. Is there any way to accomplish this?
The reason I would like to start the numbering from a later number rather than redoing all of them is that following the number I add details. It is not just "Trip 001" but rather "Trip 001 - building x" and if I were to renumber all of them then I would lose the details of the titles that I had already edited.
Any ideas on doing this would be most welcome! Thanks

In the View menu select Titles as one of the entities to display under the thumbnail. That should display the new titles. The Info window only shows the file name. Changing the title does not change the file name. To get the file name changed you'll have to export the files with the option to use the title as the file name selected.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Changing photo Titles - Odd behaviour

As a way of organising my photos I routinley change the title of each picture so that it is something obvious rather than just IMG00456 (for example). However, iPhoto crashed and some of the titles that I changed reverted back to the orginals. I cursed iPhoto and spent hours changing them back again. Now I find that the titles of the saved photos on a DVD that I'mtrying to make have the original titles rather than the ones I gave them in iPhoto, which is completely useless as an archive and very frustrating!
Any ideas how to get round this?

For that file to be recognized as an image file it would have to have one of the recognized format extensions. If you don't want the extensions to show on your Mac you can select the Finder option to hid all extensions. Changing titles in iPhoto only changes the title in iPhoto, not the file name, and there's no provision to remove or change the extension unless you use the Share->Export method and then convert the tile to a different format with a different extension. But you got to have an extension or the computer won't know which application to open it with.
