Character output - Unix vs Windows

We generate character mode report on Unix but we want to
view the output using notepad in Windows. How do we
generate the ASCII output on Unix such that it will have
the CR/LF used by Windows?

Hello, How do I tell sql+ to spool output file from windows to Unix server?
I am new to SQL+ and just learned how to spool the file. But file is saved in my local windows enviroment and since it's 2GB in size...I want to spool it directly to another remote unix server.
Pls answer in detail... I have been to most of the thread and didn't see relevant answer to above question.
Am I suppose to develope some script which FTP the spool file directly to the server I want to
or
i Have to use UTL_FILE Package ?

You may not be able to...
SQL*Plus can only spool to the local machine. If you have mapped a directory on the Unix server from your Windows machine, you can specify that directory in your SPOOL command.
You could telnet to the Unix server, run SQL*Plus there, and spool the file to a local (Unix) directory.
If the Unix server is also the Oracle database server, you could use the UTL_FILE package rather than using SQL*Plus to spool a file.
If the Unix server is also an FTP server, you could also FTP the file from your local machine to the server.
Of course, I would tend to re-examine a requirement to regularly generate a 2 GB text file. It seems likely that there is a better way...

Character output problems.

I'm currently writing a java console program that deals with european currency.
The problem comes when I try something along the lines of the following (the printing of the currency symbol being the important part):

It works in Windows when outputting to a window (i.e. TextArea, etc.) but not to the system console.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

I am using NumberFormat.getCurrencyInstance() passing a bigdecimal to call format method , the output is different in unix and windows , in windows it works fine the result is $0.00 where as in unix I get this 0.00
please explain me how to resolve this ? code to format bigdecimal

My guess is your unix doesn't have the locale set right. If you are US try this.

ECC6.0 - PDF issue - Junk Character output after Upgrade from 4.7c

Hi All,
I am working in Uprgade project(from 4.7c Non-unicode system to ECC6.0 unicode system).
We are facing PDF output issue in ECC6.0 that means we are getting junk character output(screenshot is attached for your reference).
In 4.7c , we have stroed the OTF data in table after generated from smartform as we should not get different output in future. Whenever we need output of the same then we are getting the OTF data from that table and we will generate pdf through "Convert_otf" function module.This logic is working fine in 4.7c.
In ECC6.0 ,the same logic is not working as system is unicode sytem and we are getting junk character output.
As per my old upgrade project experience , i have used the below piece of code for solve this junk character issue but still I am facing the same issue.
Kindly note that in my old upgrade project i have regenerated the OTF data in ECC6.0 and used the below piece of code then I got correct output but here I have to use the old OTF data (from table) which was generated in 4.7c.
Please any one can give solution for this issue.

Hi,
as you can see in SAP notes 842767 and 1349413, spool data cannot be converted properly for all types in a Unicode conversion.
This might be possible if you have English (US7ASCII) characters only, but with Chinese characters I do not think that a small piece of code can do it ...
Hence I think you need to recreate the data on the Unicode system ...

Printing Unix to Windows getting all the printers from the Windows machine

Hi,
My application prints Unix to Windows using the name of the machine and a generic virtual printer, but now I need to do some improvements, and I really don't know if it is possible to do what I've been asked to.
A browsable page (jsp, html, applet, whatever) has to show all the available desktop printers and print a document that can be a .prn or a .pcl to the chosen printer.
I've done a pilot project just to check what happens in Windows and what happens in Unix.
when the server is Windows, everything works just fine, but when the server is Unix, of course, I get the " javax.print.PrintException: Printer is not accepting job.at sun.print.UnixPrintJob.print(UnixPrintJob.java:295 )" error.
Is it possible to do something like this with only free software or I rather abandon the idea and face the users reaction? (upps!)

Dose anyone have any information on migrating an Oracle 9.2.0 database from Unix to Windows 2000. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Since the data files aren't compatible between the operating systems, you'll probably need to do an export and import to move the database. Other than that, it shouldn't be terribly difficult.

Database shifting from UNIX to WINDOWS

We have a production server located at Suse UNIX.
We would like to move database from UNIX to WINDOWS.
I would like to know what are the difficulties/scenarios which occures while moving the database?
How difficult is it to import current oracle database to oracle on windows server ?
Please explain in details.

hi what is your version of database?
are you chaging the database version also or simply operating system?
if you are only changing OS, then exp/imp is the best option. but to acheive this you need to do some groundwork like collecting all the tablespaces information and schemas and their privileges etc.
also depends on database size also you can choose come other options.
if your database version is 10g then you can best use the option of datapump exp/imp or network_link parameter of datapump.

File permissions $OH Unix and Windows

I am examining an Oracle audit and now looking for all the default file/directory permissions on Unix and Windows. Have searched a lot of sites now but could not find a proper list with all the permissions mentiond. Does anybody knows where to find such a list (or script) to check if my current settings are ok?
I use OEM to check for my open security policies but this permission item is very hard to find unfortunately.
So please some info on this unix/windows permissions issue.

btw Have found some settings for bdump, udump, adump, $OH/rdbms/log and audit (umask 0177) but want to check those other permissions for the whoe installed Oracle software en admin directories.

Initialization Parameter File Permission
The last few weeks I have already disabled some of the policies but these are the alerts which are left now and I want to get rid of them.
When you click in EM on "Initialization Parameter File Permission" the description of it is: Ensures that access to the initialization paramater file is restricted to the owner of the Oracle software set and the DBA group.
So, ok thats is clear to me but I want to look at the whole server/database to make it a "clean" server/db.

I believe Henry Banks discovered a solution for resolving this kind of error message. This is a limit which can be changed from within the "Web Intelligence Processing Server" from your CMC based on large amount of rows in your data. You can find his post about this here.
