? characters displayed in JSP

Hi,
I have a content upload application that allows users to upload content to a website. The user attaches an html file, and clicks on the "Publish" button in the Content Upload application. The application uploads the html file, and ftps it to the server where the website resides (Unix box). The dynamic page (jsp) on the website includes the ftp'd html uing a jsp:include so that the content changes dynamically.
The user is a business-user, and he frequently uses MS Word to create the HTML file (It is plain text). This is more convenient than converting a text file to HTML because then the line beraks will not appear. Word inserts smart quotes automatically and these get displayed as ? characters on the website.
I use the OReilly MultipartRequest to upload. On the website side, I tried changing the content type and the META tag, but it does not help. I feel it is the File Upload part that loses the encoding.
Can anything be done programmatically (short of turning off the smart quotes option)?
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated...
Thanks
sp

• Displaying Korean Characters on my jsp

I would like to display korean characters in my jsp....the characters that i want to display are read from an xml file using the sax parser... how will i do this?

Case 1 - In a JSP only.
In a JSP you need to set the following and it will display your respective charset. Substitute xxx for your required character set.
<%response.setContentType="charset=xxx"%>.
Case 2 - In an XML file and JSP
If you have an XML file, be sure to define the encoding. Be sure to change the encoding to your Korean charset.

You will the need to write an XSL which you can apply to your XML file using Xalan and output the resulting HTML in a JSP. I assume your user-agent will be a web browser, although you can use WML, cHTML and VoXML or even another XML file.

• To display spanish characters on a JSP when the JSP is inside one portal

Hi All,
Previously, I had posted my query here that how to display spanish characters on a JSP screen.
I got a solution that to add
<%@ page contentType="text/html;charset=UTF-8" language="java" %>
to the JSP and to save the JSP in 'UTF-8'encoding format.
This works well in case an individual JSP. But when I am adding the JSP to a web project consisting of many other JSP pages, its not working.
Do I have to change anything else.
Please help me if you have any suggestions. I am eagerly waiting for any response.
Thanks in advance.

I used to have a similar problem. I have jsp pages in braz. portugese and for these I have When I tried setting the contentType to UTF-8, the way you wrote foreign characters didn't get submitted properly from input fields so I took it away, then everything worked correctly. Don't know why though.

• Typing chinese characters on 9iJeveloper JSP

Hi,
I have a jsp with UTF-8 encoding, and my 9iJdeveloper project complier setting
is marked as UTF-8 as well. But i need to display chinese characters on the jsp.
I can type in the characters but when building project, 9iJdeveloper display java
malformed error. Does Anyone meet this problem before?
rgds,
joe

I'm referring the Keyboard dock, not the built-in keyboard on iPad.
You still need to use the Settings to select the Chinese keyboard layout. There is a separate section for hardware keyboards, where you can further choose us, french, german (depending on whether your physical keyboard is qwerty, azerty, or qwertz).
Are you having some problem after doing that? Are you familiar with how normal pinyin input works?

hi,
click on the layout menu button at the end of standard tool bar.
select visual settings. there u will get font size options.
u can manage through this your font size.
and this will effective with the first front end mode u start.
layout menu button >> visual settings >>general tab>> font size
hope it will help you.

• Not all chinese characters display correctly with non-embedded text

Hi all,
I've updated to the last beta 2 of Flash Player 10.1 (10,1,51,66) and compiled this simple Flex application to illustrate the fact that not all chinese characters can be displayed correctly with non-embedded text (device font).

<s:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/halo"
minWidth="1024" minHeight="768"
creationComplete="resourceManager.localeChain = ['zh_CN'];"
layout="{new VerticalLayout()}">
<fx:Script>

import spark.layouts.VerticalLayout;

</fx:Script>
<s:Label text="伜-伞伟传伡伢伣伤伥伦伧伨伩伪伫伬伭-伝">
</s:Label>
<mx:Label text="伜-伞伟传伡伢伣伤伥伦伧伨伩伪伫伬伭-伝"/>
</s:Application>
Notice that characters from the Unicode range 0x4F1E .. 0x4А2D are not displayed within <s:Label> component that uses Flash Text Engine (FTE) by default to display the text, but at the same time those characters display just fine within older <mx:Label> component that relies on flash.text.TextField instance to render the text.

OK, did not know that "Arial Unicode MS" font is only distributed with Microsoft Office, was looking into relying on this font in case if "simsun.ttc" font is not available at the user's system, by using the following:

<s:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx"
minWidth="1024" minHeight="768"
creationComplete="resourceManager.localeChain = ['zh_CN']"
layout="{new VerticalLayout()}">
<fx:Style>
@namespace s "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark";
@namespace mx "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/halo";
s|Label {
fontFamily: "Arial Unicode MS, SimSun, Arial";
</fx:Style>
<fx:Script>

import spark.layouts.VerticalLayout;

</fx:Script>
<s:Label id="sparkLabel" text="伜-伞伟传伡伢伣伤伥伦伧伨伩伪伫伬伭-伝"/>
</s:Application>
Tough decision ahead, but accordingly to the survey at codestyle.org (2000 participants from 2007 year and onwards), Arial Unicode MS is present at 62.53%% system surveyed.
ps
My current install of Windows XP already includes the install of Microsoft Office 2007 and I've also enabled/disabled the support of East Asian languages, thus the content of my "fonts" folder differs now significantly from "clean" Windows XP install version.
Nevertheless I found the page with comprehensive lists of standard fonts installed with different releases of Windows that looks viable here: http://www.kayskreations.net/fonts/fonttb.html

• Asian characters displaying in my english language PDF.

This morning I opened a PDF and got a message that I needed to install a language pack. I installed the asian language pack as requested and when I opened my PDF there were asian characters displaying in my english language PDF. How do I fix this issue?

Very difficult to say without seeing the actual PDF. If it is not confidential, can you share it (or a similar sample PDF) with the forum: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1408375

• Its important that all characters display correctly in my pdf.

When I convert a file to pdf, I always get this error: Cannot extract the embedded font'HWNDJR 83mkhgdligynvro' some characters may not display correctly. What is wrong? Its important that all characters display correctly in my pdf ebook. Please advise.

Ok, not sure what you mean exactly. I'm new to all of this. What I do is I create an ebook, I convert to pdf using Primo pdf converter, the I upload it to the adobe reader so I can distribute it to my prospects online or print it out, if they want, and send it to them. But when I open the ebook while in adobe reader to examine it, I receive that error message. ?? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

• Strange characters displaying in place of file upload

Has this happened to anyone before?
I've built a form that includes a file upload option, but where the field box and button should be there are funny characters displaying (see screenshot) - Clicking on the characters behaves as it should and an upload dialog pops up. However, in the WYSIWYG editor in BC the box displays as it should.

Hi Chirs,
I am facing the same problem but i am using c sharp and this is a windows application.
I tried to change the CodePage attribute by simply setting connection.codepage = "8040";
But i get an exception.
attempted to read or write protected memory.
I cant seem to change this. What should i do. Also do we have to set this at the point of connecting to the Sap system or when i'm calling the RFC. I tried both instances but none worked. Could you please help me out.
i am using VS 2008.
Thanks,
Yohan

• Overlapping characters displayed in spool for dunning in thai language

Hi Experts,
Our requirement is to create a dunning form for Thailand(displayed in thai language).
We have created a thai oriented printer(Thl1).We have also created a smart style and the font is helvetica(in order to display thai characters).
We have a problem when the spool is generated.The characters in the spool(both english and thai) appear overlapped.
What can be the reason for this?
My hunch is that since we are using helvetica font the spool is not generated properly.(ie spool cannot take helvetica font)
Since dunning is a sap standard program we cannot directly convert to otf format instead of generating a spool.
This problem has been bugging us for a long time.
Can any of the sap mates please suggest a solution for this?

• How to to display the JSP report in Application Server ? URL for displaying

Hi Experts,
Last week, we tried to change the memory of Response Cache and buffer Cache to increase the speed of the Excel report. But it didn’t work out.
And from the below link, I understood we can convert the oracle 9i report to excel by converting the Oracle 9i report to JSP report.
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/reports/htdocs/getstart/demonstrations/index.html
I’ve converted the Oracle 9i report to JSP report and finding the way to display the JSP report using Application Server. I am trying to find out the REPORT URL of simple JSP report and using Reports Servlet . Right now I am trying to display the JSP report in Application Server.
Please suggest the URL for displaying the JSP report
Thanks & Regards

Hi,
You can directly call you .jsp file, http://<host>:<domain>:<port>/<jsp report path>?userid=<if your report requires userid>/<pwd>
Refer to metalink documents:
Frequently Asked Questions About JSP Reports [ID 301714.1]
Here --> Question 4. How do I execute a JSP report?
Also refer, How to deploy JSP reports [ID 220943.1]
Hope this helps.

• Tomcat  won't display index.jsp

Hello, I've been working in a webapp the last couple of weeks, and I am new with tomcat and JSP technology, yesterday I try to display the index.jsp in http://localhost:8180 and it didn't display it .
I retart tomcat with
sudo /etc/init.d/tomcat5.5 restartand it give me an OK but it won't show up in my browser, I don't know how to fix it. I was editing index.jsp couple of days ago and I erase the content of the folder "work" in tomcat, but it worked ( display index.jsp ) , but I don't know if it is related, I haven't done much since then . So I am pretty much lost. Can someone help me please??

The contents of the work folder get recreated if they're deleted so that can't be the problem.
Is anything else working? Is only the index.jsp not working? Also, the index.jsp seems to be hardcoded, modifying it will not have any effect.
If nothing is woking, I suggest you consult your logs, under $CATALINA_HOME/logs and go through them to see what's happening. Post the contents here if you think there's something wrong.
