Characters missing in HTML source

In ApEx 3.0.0.00.20 on Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Prod I have problems viewing the HTML pages in frontend. I miss some characters in the HTML source. The contents displayed are loaded from the database where they are saved correctly. When reloading the page, the errors appear randomly in other places in the source.
Example:
<b>(Textb></b>
instead of
<b>(Text)</b>
The missing characters are not accpetable if buttons do not appear or processes do not run. The appilcation also runs on another instance without those bugs so this is not an application error.
What I would like to know is if someone else ever had the same problem and if it is a performance error or if the error is found in the database or in the ApEx installation.
Thanks in forward for your replies,
Patrick

Sorry for my bad example, this might confuse because I cannot add HTML tags here. The problem is not that the text is bold or not. I try to give more examples to make the problem clear.
Example 1:
input type="radio" name="f15" value="1" />1
The < character is missing in front of the line, so no radio button is displayed and the HTML source code is shown as text in the browser.
Example 2:
Shown Text: zu helfennd einige Fragen zu beantworten
Text in Database: zu helfen und einige Fragen zu beantworten
+2 Characters missing+
In the example above I meant that also the '<' character was missing and the bold-tag was not closed so that all text was shown bold.
So the HTML code is not generated correctly by ApEx and randomly 1 or 2 characters are missing which makes the site unuseable. Any ideas?

  • While accessing lighthammer getting missing HTML Source File error.

    Hi Friends,
While tryining to logon to Lighthammer I am getting below error:
    (Missing HTML Source File: D:/Lighthammer/Illuminator/Temp/HomePages/admin/HomePage_admin.htm)
On checking at location D:/Lighthammer/Illuminator/Temp/HomePages/admin I found that folder admin is not available
and when we restore it from backup it get deleted as soon as we try to logon again.
This is happening with all other users also. As a workarround we first logon to Lighthammer and when it gives error we paste folder for corresponding user (admin in this case) with home page under D:/Lighthammer/Illuminator/Temp/HomePages then it works.
We are using MII version 11.5 on windows 2003.
    Please advise. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Diana,
    Thanks for you Reply.
I checked directory D:/Inetpub/wwwroot/Illuminator/HomePages and it does not exist.
But this directory also not exist on any other system including the production systems which are working fine.
Also checked the permissions and there seems to be no permission issue.

  • Java app to save html source and copy to clipboard

I'm new to Java, and I'm doing a research paper which requires gathering data from the internet. I basically need to learn commands to create an app (which I will execute on a daily basis using Windows scheduler) to do the following task:
    1. Access a specific URL
    2. Save the HTML source as a text file
    3. Copy some of the text in the saved text file to the clipboard in Windows
    4. Paste this data in Excel
    5. Run a macro in Excel to sort the data
I know enough VBA and Excel functions to parce the data, but if it is easier to use Java to sort the data into columns and rows in Excel, I would like to learn how to do that too.
I'm running Windows XP. My friend tells me to download Dr. Java to edit .java files and also the SDK to compile the files. He also told me to find modules from the internet which I can use, but I'm not sure how to go about it. (I tried searching on the net but didn't get the hits I wanted.)
Any help at this point would be much appreciated.

If your target html is so fancy and complicated(table cell contain another table) or the table miss some <tr> or <td> tags, dividing the table into rows and column can be a difficult task.
I recommend you choose the website with high download speed. Otherwise, you have to write more code to handle any loading failure.
I recommend you use httpunit to get webpage with Java program. (There is usually proxy server in University, you can config the parameter for proxy server in the Java program calling httpunit)
    http://httpunit.sourceforge.net/
It will take some times to learn those Java technique.

  • Characters missing in PDF export on Windows

I have a EPS logo placed in InDesign.
When I export to a PDF there are characters missing in the PDF:
When I check the PDF's fonts it lists them as using a custom encoding.
When my collegue uses the same logo in InDesign on a Mac, all the characters are included in the PDF and the fonts are listed as using ANSII encoding.
If we open the logo in Illustrator and export it as an EPS, it works properly on both platforms. However, since we typically place this type of logo via scripting, we would like to be able to either have a fix for the bug or be able to identify the what types of logo files causes this issue so can automatically check the logo before using it. Is this a known problem?

Hmm .. (HelveticaNeue was a likely candidate for the source of your problem if, and only if, the file was made on a Mac -- its system version of HN is a bit ... messed up ... by Apple.)
Just for clarity, can you check with what software this EPS was made? Open it with a regular text editor, that info should be somewhere in the first lines, usually in a line that starts with "%%Creator:".
If you drop the EPS file on Distiller, is the resulting PDF okay?

  • CQ page is not rendering properly. It is not rendering HTML. It is showing HTML source code as is.

On some of the pages, I am getting this weird behavior wherein page is not rendering properly. It is showing HTML source code as is. Could you please help me out? What could be the issue? And how can we get rid of the same?

Check your component jsp page. it is possible that it is just plan file without directives <@ or you might have miss to close tag which is creating source as text to render
Paste your jsp code in case you need further help

  • I see the license agreement as HTML source code

    Hello,
I downloaded a trial version of Adobe Acrobat 9.0,
but after I had installed it and start it, it wants me to agree on the license agreement.
but my problem is that I can't click on Agree nor Disagree because I see only HTML source code
see the printscreen I added below.
does anyone know what is wrong, or wat I have to install to 'use' these HTML pages whitin Adobe Acrobat?
I also downloaded the software again and installed it again and it happens also with trial versions of photoshop,
I have not tested other software so far.
    Thanks in advance

  • Editing HTML source document and losing the Server Behaviour details on the panel

    Hi,
    I just noticed something;
When I bring in and edit my HTML source document, my server behaviour goes back to Coldfusion and the record set and record insertion is missing.
I have to Click and add it back to the panel. Is this normal ?
    Thanks

    Hi Murray,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I had to deal with an idiotic poster, each time I try to reply I get the same message from the poster about his facebook account. I have reported it and phone your company - Adobe to resolved this. His post has been deleted from the system and hopefully I am back and able to attend to your replies.
I have moved on and recreated my pages from scratch. I have taken into consideration all your discussion with me and I only have one document. It is named and with an extension of PHP.
I am at a point where I have no errors and found a Dreameaver bug in your Insert>Data> Insert Record option. The form action is written in Captials. As you have pointed out it should be in lower case, so did the validator. So I have recognised this whlist recreating it from scratch.
This is now where I am. I have the form, it works, captures the users input, on click it jumps to the action page but it does not write to database table.
I hope you dont mind, I appreciate your previous 2 post before this reply. Hence, here we are.
    Source code.
Why does it not write to the database table?
    Please advice.

  • JSP rendering HTML source code occasionally

I have project deployed on JBoss423 server. Sometimes while accessing a jsp page i am seeing the html source. I have already tried including the 'meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"' and <%@ page contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8" %> tags but still the error seems to not resolved. After the error comes if i refresh the page it works perfectly.
I am not able to find a genuine solution to this problem. The error is occurring on IE9 as well as firefox 7.0.1. I am not seeing this error when i use IE8.

The fact that you see the html source has nothing to do with your server-side resources directly; its the browser that for some reason is unwilling to render the actual content. This might mean that occasionally your markup is faulty enough that the browser doesn't comply; generally this happens when an exception occurs after content has already been flushed to the browser. This cuts the HTML content short. It could also be an improperly closed string text in the content, or a missing closing tag.
When it happens again, examine the actual HTML content and the server logs to see if there is something odd in there.

  • PDF outputs continually crash after editing an html source file

I have English and multiple localized versions of a RoboHelp webhelp project. I have created several PDF outputs for the localized versions. I can generate the PDFs fine when I don't touch any of the html source files.
However, I had to make a change to one of the html source files to remove a <dl> from the source file. After making the change to the source file in an outside text editor (Notepad ++), I went back to RoboHelp to generate the PDF, and the PDF output crashed.
The reason I was using an outside text editor is that when I tried to edit the <dl> HTML tags in RH, its HTML editor deleted all text within the tags being edited.  There was no undo at this point.  In anotehr attempt to use the RH Design editor, RH didn’t delete the <dd> or <dt> tags when those tag styles were changed to <h4> and <p>, respectively. RH inserted the new html wrapper inside the existing ones, instead of replacing it.
Also, during the PDF generation process, a Visual Basic error message will appear dozens of times stating that the application was interrupted.  I must press OK to continue for each error message.
What gives with the PDF generation failing like this?

I hate to say it but it sounds like something you are doing in the external editor is not liked by RoboHelp.
It could just be the way that text editor codes the file. I use EditPad Pro and that has various options for text encoding. My guess is your editor is not set to what RoboHelp expects.
Aftr that what I would do here is create a new one topic project and recreate the problem, with the minimum of text. It may help you spot the code RoboHelp does not like.

Sorry Charlie, but this isn't a "mail me the codez" forum. Either use Google, or try to share your problem and their solutions in the forum. Besides, a little Googling will find you a solution.

    Hello Cyrano,
This Developer Forum focuses on the National Instruments product "Measurement Studio for Visual Basic" (formerly known as ComponentWorks). Our goal is to help people to better integrate this product into their test, measurement, and automation applications. Your question directly pertains to the Microsoft Internet Transfer Control. I think you would find an increased number of responses that are better focused on your question if you would repost it to a forum that specializes in general VB and internet programming. Good luck!

  • Special Characters in imported HTML

I've got a Flash piece where the user fills out a
questionnaire, and based on their responses, they are shown a
handful of recommendations. These recommendations are all separate
HTML files that load into a scrolling text field as HTML text.
There is an English version and a Spanish version. The
    English version works fine.
In the Spanish version, on the other hand, we've got special
characters such as accents over e's, tildes over n's, and so forth.
In the HTML, I've used codes for special characters, such as
&ntilde; for ñ. That didn't work. In the resulting
recommendations, this code appears, not the ñ.
Then I tried just putting the special characters into the
HTML, without the special code. That looks fine on my computer (Mac
G5 running Firefox), but on Windows IE instead of the special
characters, we get one of those diamond shapes with a "?" in the
    middle of it.
In my recommendations field, I have it set to embed all
characters. The font is Verdana, which should include the special
characters. Does anyone know if the display of special characters
in Flash is possible, and how I would do it?

    add <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> tag to 1st
    line of your xml, AND
save your xml file encoding as utf-8, if you are using
    notepad, try this:
    - save as, change the encoding (the bottom field) to UTF-8
no worry about your file extension.
UTF-8 (8-bit Unicode Transformation Format) supports multiple
    languages.
    good luck

  • Characters Missing in PDF

I just created a Pages document with a table and in two different cells I typed '20th Century Fox.' I used Superscript (Format>Font>Baseline>Superscript) to elevate the 'th' in '20th.' It looks fine in Pages but when I Export to PDF, everything after the '20' in those cells disappears.
I think this has to be a bug as I cannot figure out what sort of user error could cause this. Has anyone else seen this and do you have a workaround?

I feel like I've just spotted the Abominable Snowman. I received an email from Apple based on this thread. Has anyone ever heard directly from Apple on one of these forums? You think it's some odd sort of spam? I've waited to post about it because I feared, like the Yeti, they might scare off easily. Since they haven't written back to my reply, I'll post the conversation here:
We have heard about your issue from the discussion thread below:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6931276
We would like to know if you would be able to provide the following:
    - OSX and Pages versions
    - a copy of the Pages document that shows characters missing after exporting to PDF
    Thank you,

I wrote them back with the three pieces of information they asked for —two of which were in the thread— but nothing so far.

  • New Safari 2.0.3 displays some Router Firmware pages as HTML Source text

      Hello Safari users and gurus.
I installed the new 10.4.4 Combo Updater yesterday, preceded and followed by permissions repairs and other maintenance, including cleaning Safari Caches. Safari 2.0.3 works.
My problem: 10.4.4's new Safari 2.0.3 displays HTML source text after I click "Save" from within my Linksys (latest firmware) router's web based administration pages that worked correctly with the previous version of Safari.
When I check or change my router settings, the initial router settings pages appear as they did with the previous version of Safari. However, with 10.4.4's new Safari 2.0.3, as soon as I click "Save" to attempt to save a changed router setting, the confirming info from the router is displayed as HTML source code instead of the expected HTML page display.
If I wait for the router lights to indicate activity has ceased and then reload the router's opening admin address, the page opens again normally, and I can navigate to other pages and see that the changes have been saved. However, any click on any "Save" changes button in the router's pages delivers another page of HTML source text.
I will watch for future router firmware updates to see whether the issue is resolved from the Linksys side.
Does anyone have any suggestions for improvement now? All assistance will be appreciated.
    EZ Jim

Thanks glefand. As you suggested, I tried my old iBook G3 that is still running 10.3.9, and it works fine for me.
My G5 DP also worked normally up through OS X 10.4.3. My problem only began after I installed the 10.4.4 update. I think the Safari update included with the 10.4.4 update is what is causing the issue with the firmware pages on my Linksys router.
Hopefully a future router firmware update (or Safari update?) will restore proper operation. If not, I will continue to reload from the router's Start page. The need to work around this glitch is annoying, but the actual function of my router setup works without problem, even though the pages do not display properly.
Thanks again for your helpful suggestion,
    Jim

  • Problem launching Firefox from Windows with file path that contains space characters in the html file's file name

We have a software application that programmatically launches the default web browser using the Windows shell execute function ("ShellExecuteA" in the "shell32.dll" library of the Windows API) along with a file path for a saved local html file that is to be displayed. In the case that FireFox is the default browser and the file path for the html file contains any space characters in the html file's file name, Firefox (in this case v7.01) will display an error message "File not Found..." and then will also proceed to open tabs for each of the individual words in the file name, launching as the URL path, each individual word appended to ".com".
In the following example, the path "C:\KSSecOfState\Forms\Kansas Secretary of State - Filings and Forms.htm" when launched programmatically, resulted in the error message "File not Found...Firefox can't find the file at /C:/KSSecOfState/Forms/Kansas." and opened up browser windows for "http://www.secretary.com/", "http://www.of.com/", "http://www.state.com/", "http://www.and.com/", and attempted to launch "http://forms.htm". If the same file (renamed) is launched using the path string "C:\KSSecOfState\Forms\KansasSecretaryOfState-FilingsAndForms.htm" the file opens up correctly in Firefox. Clearly the presence of spaces in the file name is causing the problem.
I should also note that either path (with or without space characters) works properly if pasted directly into the Firefox URL path menu bar for a live instance of Firefox. The test path strings I used were:
    C:\KSSecOfState\Forms\KansasSecretaryOfState-FilingsAndForms.htm
C:\KSSecOfState\Forms\Kansas Secretary of State - Filings and Forms.htm
Does anyone know anything about this problem or how to work around it (other than the obvious answer of taking the spaces out of the file name which is not possible for this application). It seems the problem is specific to Firefox. IE works properly if launched programmatically with spaces in the file name passed to it. I haven't tested other browsers yet.
    Thanks!

If starting from ShellExecute works the same as starting from the command line then there are two options:<br>
    Put everything inside double quotes<br>
    '''C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\>'''firefox.exe '''"c:\test\svg test.htm"'''<br>
Convert to a valid url with file:// protocol and percentage-escaping the space<br>
    '''C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\>'''firefox.exe '''file://c:\test\svg%20test.htm'''<br>
