Checkbox item id value

Does anyone know why the id of a checkbox item is of the format <ITEM_NAME>_0??
when you do a this.id it does not return the item_name like the other item types do..

vikas,
my regular expressions are a bit suspect, but what would happen if you had 2 checkboxes on your page and called them:
PX_CHECKBOX_1 and PX_CHECKBOX_2 would this not have an id of PX_CHECKBOX_1_0 and PX_CHECKBOX_2_0 respectively with the regular expression returning PX_CHECKBOX for both??

  • Checkbox item: How to get all values checked?

    See http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=24317:46
    The report query is simply
    select
    'One' one,
    'Two' two,
    'Three' three,
    'Four' four
    from dualThe checkbox item is a named static LOV with STATIC2:ONE,TWO,THREE,FOUR and a Source value of ONE:TWO:THREE:FOUR so that all boxes appear checked when the page is first rendered.
    All the 4 columns have a column condition like
    instr(':'||:P46_COLS||':',':ONE:') > 0to ensure that column is rendered only if the corresponding checkbox is checked.
    The report has Dynamic column headings with the following PL/SQL function body
    return 'ONE:TWO:THREE:FOUR';To my (pleasant) surprise, this works very nicely. When column TWO is conditionally not rendered, its corresponding column heading is also skipped with no effort on my part. Nice.
    Question:
    Instead of "hard-coding" that string ONE:TWO:THREE:FOUR in the 2 places I mentioned above (checkbox item source and report heading), is there a way to access the "all values checked" version of that LOV item so that it will dynamically pick up the latest LOV changes? The way I have done it currently, if I change the named LOV, I need to also change those 2 places where I have hardcoded the values.
    Any ideas? Thanks

    Scott:
    I thought about that but the LOV has dozens of values, each with a verbose display value and a return value of the column name (upto 30 characters) and the display values are still being "worked on" by the users.
    So, the "all columns" string would be a big, unweildy string that would be hard to edit.
    It is much easier to edit, resequence and generally work with a Shared Component LOV defined as a Static LOV because you get that nice page (4000:4111) where you can read everything nicely formatted instead of a STATIC2:<big long string>!
    Can I have my cake and eat it too?!
    Thanks

  • How to get the checked attribute of a checkbox item from a PL/SQL process?

    Hello,
    I have a simple static form with one checkbox linked to a LOV containing one single value. I use this checkbox just to enable/disable other fields via Javascript. I am interested to fetch the "checked" attribute of this checkbox (and not the value of the checkbox) from an After Submit PL/Sql page process, so that I can process only the enabled fields.
    I can already imagine a workaround where we may store via Javascript the checked attribute of this checkbox in an hidden page item and then getting it from there, but I would really like to avoid it, as it would add unnecessary complexity and I would have to add more code to keep the hidden item always in synch with the checkbox status.
    Is there something like the V('page_item') PL/Sql function that can get a different attribute from a page item (like the checked one from a checkbox) and not only its value?
    I searched the forum for an answer to my question, but I couldn't find anything related.
    Thanks a lot,
    Paolo

    Paolo,
    HTML checkboxes are POSTed only if they are checked. So if your "checked" value is 'Y', for example, then your after-submit process can check if the item's value is 'Y' or not. Of course, you must be careful to set that item to null (or some non-checked value) in session state during page rendering so that previous values are not retained.

  • Checkbox Item: character string buffer too small (APEX 4.0. - 4.2.)

    Hi all,
    I'm currently running the Oracle Application Express 4.0.2 on the Oracle DB 11g and thinking about the APEX upgrading to current 4.2. version. We have there quite big application used by the inernal employees so prior I need to test, if the migration will work.
    I installed the new server with database and the APEX 4.2. and import the current application. Everything seems to working good except few checkboxes, which returns me the error: "ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small."
    LOV (Source) Code of Checkbox Item:
    SELECT email as display_value, id as return_value
    FROM users
    WHERE <some conditions>;
    In the current version 4.0.2. I get the checkbox item (total count of the rows approx. 650), but in the 4.2. I get this "string buffer too small" error and the page could not be rendered (if I add to the same query limitation: "rownum<242" it will display the item).
    Could you please help me with this issue? Any idea, what I should set up in the new APEX to get the same results or you see there any limitation, why it does not work in the new version, but in the old version the same SQL works fine?
    Thank you all in advance.

Why you are hitting this limit in the new instance may be due to differences in data or the database configuration (e.g. character set) rather than changes introduced in APEX.
    Is the data exactly the same? Is the database configuration the same? When you limit the number of rows so the checkboxes are displayed and view the page source, is there any difference in the HTML used to render the checkbox form elements between the two versions?
    That said, from a usability perspective 650 LOV options is rather a lot, and your application may very well outgrow this limit naturally in any version of APEX as more users as added. It is probably worthwhile thinking about other ways to display these options.

  • How do you get to display checkbox items  in list or detail layouts?

    Hi,
    I have searched everyhwere for what I felt would be standard stuff in web apps, now lost a day to it!
    None of the online videos/knowledge base articles or this forum seem to cover it but I can't believe you wouldn't be able to do it.
    If I have created checkbox fields in my web apps how do I get them to display in the main templates (details and list) as list items, ul, ol or dl or anything else other than raw output?
    How do I wrap the nessersary html around the values? Jquery for now I guess or is there some hidden liquid layout or tag parameter/value I don't know of?
    And whilst I'm on it is my only option to not show or show content based on a boolean true/false value to do it through jquery/css?
    Help appreciated, so desperate now!

    Hi Mary,
    Thanks for the help. I saw that somewhere though Adobe's making this forum nice and tricky to find anything! Relied on google caching for most useful stuff I've found to bybass the redirect to the first forum page.
    I needed it to wrap around the items so came up with this:
    <script type="text/javascript">
         $(document).ready(function () {
         // Populate a dl with checkbox items or choose any other html to wrap around items
             var checkItems="{tag_checkboxItems}";
             $('#dlID').html('<dt>Items List Title</dt><dd>'+checkItems.split(",").join("</dd><dd>")+'</dd>');
              // #dlID can be anything but identifys the html element that you setup to contain your list of items in my case it was a dl with id #dlID
    </script>
    If there is a better SEO method to do this please let me know.
    Frankly I've been  amazed that web apps don't really support conditional statments and there is little to no information on achieving it through jquery (my first projects have been fairly basic)...roll on fluild layouts I guess.
    Failing that maybe Adobe could produce something in the knowledge base or videos which really do cover more advanced implementaion of web apps. I doubt anyone using web apps or having had experience of other CMS would really consider showing or hiding content based on boolean results or looping to create lists all that advanced, it's more a fundemental function of a CMS.
    P.S Thanks again to both of you.

  • Set an item's value

    Good day,
    I have a form with a Data Block and two items in the Data Block. The first item is a checkbox, while the second is an ID. I've set up a trigger on the ID item (POST-CHANGE) that should set the checkbox item if the ID has a valid system ID. The problem I'm having is that I can't seem to be able to set the checkbox. I need advice.
    Data Block = VARREQ
    Items:
    USE_VAR_FLAG (valid values are "Y", "N")
    VAR_ID (valid values are a number)
    The code I've tried so far:
    begin
    :VARREQ.USE_VAR_FLAG := 'Y';
    end;
    This does not set the checkbox value.

    Hi ThomasBoxall
    As a result when the code triggers it only applies to the first value of the LOV and every subsequent check box is not being checkedit's not very clear to me but it's row by row the validation is made...
    provide a resource on how to step through a LOV to check every checkbox in the LOV that has a valid VAR_ID?a check box is a form item has 2 values y or but when dealing with LOV u r dealing with db column compared to e.g. a form item to be validated or compared with in the WHERE clause statment in the record group when building a query (Record Group) of a List Of Value.
    Any way,here is a link on How to Create a List of Values and all other forms basics for beginners from scratch.

  • Moving checkbox items into other group

    I have a very simple Word doc that when I have Acrobat automatically create a form from it, puts checkbox items into groups I need to change. For example, the grouping should be
    GroupA
    Item1
    Item2
    Item3
    Item4
    but what I get is
    GroupA
    Item1
    Item2
    GroupB
    Item3
    Item4
    I can't select and slide item3 and 4 into GroupA. And if I delete item3 and 4 and add a new field, the new field is always outside of GroupA, even if I select GroupA or any item inside of it first.
    I do have a way out: I can delete them all and then add multiple checkboxes as a group, but I would rather slide them around, as there are a lot more checkboxes than the four shown.  Anyone know how I can accomplish this?

    Jeff,
    Thanks for the response. I had tried the apex_item before but I couldn't get it to work. I have changed the SQL to include the apex_item commands then used them to define parameters in the javascript function then added parameters to the Application Process but I get no data found. • Enhancement request: Checkbox item - Default all checked

    When a page item with a display type of Checkbox is used in the WHERE clause of a report region (to show rows only if the corresponding checkbox is checked using the INSTR(item_name,column_name)>0 technique), it is frequently useful to render the page for the first time with all checkboxes checked.
    The only way I found to render a checkbox item with all values checked is to specify its "Source" attribute as a PL/SQL function body with
    declare
    l_retval varchar2(4000);
    begin
    for rec in (select d,r from <lov_query>) loop
       l_retval := l_retval || ':' || rec.r;
    end loop;
    return ltrim(l_retval,':');
    end;I don't like this solution because the LOV query is specified twice on the item properties page (in the LOV section and in this Source attribute). You need to remember to change it in both places.
    I think Apex should have a easier method to declaratively specify that checkbox-based items should be initially rendered with all values checked.
    Thanks

    Hello Vikas,
    Why not using an onLoad JavaScript code to mark your checkboxes?
    I was thinking about something similar to the check all checkboxes script, but target it to a specific item, and fired it on load.
    If you are using Px_ITEM1 as your checkbox item, the first option will always get the ID of Px_ITEM1_0. Using that, how about something like this:
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    <!-- Hide
    function markBoxes(pItem){
      var itemId = pItem + '_0';
      var checkboxElm = $x(itemId).parentNode;
      var boxOption = checkboxElm.getElementsByTagName('input');
      for (var i=0; i < boxOption.length; i++) {
        boxOption.checked = true;
    // End Hide -->
    </script>
    This way you can keep only one LOV query, and because the tag name search is limited to one item, only its options will be checked.

    Arie.

  • Automated row fetches, checkboxes and null values

    Hi
    In Apex3 I have a page with automated fetch row process that is working fine. Now I need to add a new not null varchar2 column "flag" which can be a Y or a N.
    To do so, I created a new checkbox item p1_flag, set the source properties and the LOV definition to: STATIC2:Flag set;Y
    However when I try to save the data with the checkbox unticked I get a null value error. To solve it, I created a computation on that field like this:
    nvl(:p1_flag, 'N')
    Is this the best way to do it? (other than using database triggers)
    Thanks
    Luis

    Hi Patrick
    Thanks for the reply. I thought that, just wondered if there were a better way...
    Another option that I was thinking about was to modify the column definition to be nullable, with valid values being Y and null. So I wouldn't have to care about it. The only thing being that I don't like very much the idea of modifying the database design because of the development tool (though I saw things much worse than this, as using VARCHAR2 instead of DATE because the front end tool didn't handle date datatypes very well!)
    Or just stick to a trigger to do it.
    Cheers

  • Designer creating an unbound checkbox item

    I am trying to create an unbound checkbox item in a form. The allowable values are Y - check on N - check off. The block containing the checkbox is based on a table (DD_clients) The checkbox item is based on a client side function (looks up another table to determine if client owes money). The function requires the client_id as a parameter and the return value is a varchars (either Y or N ).
    How in designer do I specify the Y is checked on and N is checked off. How do I specify the mapping of other values checkbox parameter. I know how to change these in Developer but we are 100% forms generation shop.
    Thanks

    OK, I figured out the issue. My HTML code works fine. The problem was that I hadn't understood the difference between the use of ROWNUM in the SQL source query and the built-in substitution string #ROWNUM#. So what I had done was put ROWNUM as one of the fields of the query, which of course meant that #ROWNUM# now referred to that field instead of the built-in substitution string. Duh.

  • Get previous items unique value in new add item form

    Hi
    I have on list having items related to multiple locations.
    Every location is related to one user.
    When user logs in it filters the list with that users location.
    Now when user click on add new item I want to get the data related to his location using item event listener.
    But in new item form there is no way to get the location of that user in event listener as its new item.
    So I passed the qury string parameter form list and changed the add item form link and form to get the query string paramter as default value in Add new Item form.
    But again when user clicks on save button it redirects to original url without paramter.
    How to redirect user to url with parameter on click on Save/Cancel.
    Is there any other way to get the previous item unique value in add new item from before executing the event listener?

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to redirect user to url with parameter on click on Save/Cancel.
    You need to modify the onclick event need to as below:
    javascript: {{ddwrt:GenFireServerEvent('__redirect={{Home.aspx?Participant={@Participant}&amp;@Activity={@Activity}}}')}}
    Here is a similar thread for your reference:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/b506cfe5-650e-4017-b470-9ca0a75cd390/sharepoint-2010-list-how-to-pass-parameters-in-a-url-to-another-page?forum=sharepointcustomizationprevious
    In addition, you can creating an intermediate page which just finds the filed value with a DVWP and then redirect to RedirectURL with the filed value on the Query String.
    For more information, you can refer to:
    Redirect to Another Page from NewForm.aspx with the New Item’s ID

    The value of a list binding is the zero-based integer position in the list that is selected, not the actual underlying value.
    The simplest way to set the value of an attribute is to use an attribute binding (which can be bound to the same attribute as the list binding). When you set the value of an attribute binding, it sets the value as you supply it. Otherwise, you'd need to set the list binding's value to the numerical "slot" number of the one you want to change the value to.
