  • Exception -arrayindexoutobound  while inserting checkbox in a jtable

    hello,
    i am using oracle as backend. As you might be knowing that oracle doesn't store boolean datatype.
    so now please tell me how to insert checkbox in a jtable.
    please do help me if you can.

    HELLO camickr
    ONE INTERESTING THING IS HAPPENING->
    i had created 2 table in my form 1) jtable1 2) jtable2
    i had declared the listener on JTABLE1 as->
    jTable1.addMouseListener(new Mousehandler())
    I HAD WRITTEN THE METHOD AS->
    public class Mousehandler extends MouseAdapter
    public void mouseClicked(MouseEvent me)
    //NOTE ->HERE IS THE CODE TO ADD CHECKBOX ON A COLUMN FOR JTABLE1
    TableColumn sport= jTable1.getColumnModel().getColumn(1);
    // str=jTable1.getCellEditor();
    JCheckBox jCheckBox1 = new JCheckBox();
    sport.setCellEditor(new DefaultCellEditor(jCheckBox1));
    //NOTE-> HERE IS THE CODE TO ADD JCHECKBOX ON A JTABLE2
    TableColumn sportcol = jTable2.getColumnModel().getColumn(1);
    JCheckBox jCheckBox2 = new JCheckBox();
    sportcol.setCellEditor(new DefaultCellEditor(jCheckBox2));
    now when i click on JTABLE1 IT IS THROWING EXCEPTION BUT WHEN FUNCTIONING WITH jTable2 WHEN I CLICK ON THE COLUMN IN WHICH I HAD INSERTED CHECKBOX IT IS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY WITHOUT ANY ERROR.
    NOTE-> I HAD TO CLICK ONCE ON JTABLE1 THEN ONLY JTABLE2
    FUNCTION BECAUSE I HAD DECLARED LISTENER FOR JTABLE1 ONLY.(JTABLE1 IS THROWING AN EXCEPTION ARRAYINDEXOUTOFBOUND when i click on the column in which i had inserted jcheckbox im my jtable1)
    PLEASE DO HELP ME IF YOU CAN.
    THANK YOU.

  • Problem : Not able to select multiple checkboxes in the JTable

    Here i am trying to select the multiple check boxes in the jtable. But i am not able to do that. I set the jTable.setSelectionMode(ListSelectionModel.MULTIPLE_INTERVAL_SELECTION); also.
    Can any one help on this...

    Can any one help on this...That's row selection, not check boxes. The normal way to have active checkboxes in a JTable is with an editable Boolean column. The effect of clicking such a checkbox is to cause the table to call setValueAt() in the data model with a Boolean object value, and it's up to the data model to deal with that change.

  • Check a checkbox in a jtable in a panel from another panel

    I have a panel-> Panel A
    where I have some conditions and on that condition I want to check a checkbox in a jtable in another panel ->PanelB
    So Panel B has a jtable with one column as checkbox,I want to check/uncheck this checkbox based on some conditions in some other panel A
    I have no idea how to do this.Please help.
    Thanks

    How will the change be reflected dynamically if the value changes in some other panel.By code that you write. If you want component X to change based on some changes to component Y, then first you set up a listener which will notify you when changes to component Y take place. In that listener you put code which makes the appropriate changes to component X, based on what happened to component Y.

  • Unable to check / uncheck a checkbox in a JTable...

    Hi all,
    I know that a lot of people have asked this question before but I am unable to find a solution even after going all the messages. My issue is:
    My initial rendering of the checkboxes inside the table works ok. I am using a TableCellRenderer and my input to determine the "checked/unchecked" is string like "true" or "false" and not boolean values. But I am unable to do check / uncheck any of the checkboxes.
    I would really appreciate any pointers.
    Thanks in advance.
    Below is my code snippet:
    public Component getTableCellRendererComponent(JTable table_,
    Object value_, boolean isSelected_, boolean hasFocus_, int rowIndex_,
    int colIndex_)
    Component component = super.getTableCellRendererComponent(table_,
    value_, isSelected_, hasFocus_, rowIndex_, colIndex_);
    indicator = table_.getColumnModel().getColumnIndex("IND");
    if (indicator == colIndex_)
         if (value_.equals("true")){
              component = new JCheckBox("", true);
         } else {
              component = new JCheckBox("", false);
         return component;
    }

    Your TableModel has to indicate that the column is editable. Your TableModel also has to implement setValueAt() so that when the user changes the value, it updates the data.
    The table will know to use it's own boolean renderer/editor for that column because it knows what to do when a column returns a Boolean.

  • How can I change the foregroud of checkboxes in a JTable ?

    Hello!
    I develop an application module to let a user correcting a list of pre-filled forms.
    I extended JTable with customized model, cell renderer and cell editor.
    A form can be disabled. All elements are then disabled as my tables.
    I encountered a minor GUI problem on JTable: I do not find a solution to let checkboxes displayed as disabled, even if checkboxes are effectively user disabled ( when i did myTable.setEnabled(false) ).
    Do you know a way to change the foreground color of the checkboxes in my tables?
    Thanks
    HugO

    It's ok, I've just found the solution.
    Simply, in method
    public Component getTableCellRendererComponent(JTable table, Object value, boolean isSelected, boolean hasFocus, int row, int column), of class MyCheckBoxCellRenderer (extending JCheckBox), I need to add the only line setEnabled(table.isEnabled()).
    Sorry for that!

  • COMBOBOX & CHECKBOX RENDERER IN JTABLE

    Hi,
    I created JXTable by using swingx palette in Netbeans IDE. In two columns of my table, for each row I want to put checkboxes and comboboxes. I searched the ways on internet and I finalise my code. However, because I used cell editor, I just see my checkboxes and comboboxes when I enter a specific cell. I read all tutorials but unfortunately I cannot learn how to use renderer to show comboboxes and checkboxes all the time. In below you could check my code and if possible please teach how to use renderers and try to give feedback to my code by fixing it. Thank you.
    *(P.S Please don't send any web site for tutorial, i searched almost all of them; but I can't understand the logic of it.)*
    // SET UP THE COMBO BOX
    public void setUpOverwriteValueColumn(JXTable table, TableColumn overwriteValCol) {
    valueCombo = new JComboBox();
    Field field = new Field();
    ArrayList values = new ArrayList();
    values = field.getValues();
    for(String a:values){
    valueCombo.addItem(a);
    overwriteValCol.setCellEditor(new DefaultCellEditor(valueCombo));
    DefaultTableCellRenderer renderer = new DefaultTableCellRenderer();
    renderer.setToolTipText("Click for combo box");
    overwriteValCol.setCellRenderer(renderer);
    // SET UP THE CHECK BOX
    public void setUpOverwriteColumn(JXTable table, TableColumn overwriteCol) {
    valueChk = new JCheckBox();
    overwriteCol.setCellEditor(new DefaultCellEditor(valueChk));
    DefaultTableCellRenderer renderer = new DefaultTableCellRenderer();
    renderer.setToolTipText("Click for check box");
    overwriteCol.setCellRenderer(renderer);
    setUpOverwriteColumn(monitorTable, monitorTable.getColumnModel().getColumn(3)); //add checkbox to 3rd column
    setUpOverwriteValueColumn(monitorTable, monitorTable.getColumnModel().getColumn(4)); //add combobox to 4th column

    Finally I can add renderers. But, now I have different question. When user clicks on the checkbox I want to enable the combo box. I mean if user clicks the checkbox in row 3; only the combo box which placed in row 3 should be enabled; other combos in other rows should not be enabled. Please help if you know the answer. • Urgent help needed in Checkbox in JTable

    I am trying to put a checkbox in the JTable. The value from the database is a string . The column name is checked. I want if hte value in the database is "yes" the column should be checked and if it is "no" it should not be checked or vice versa( if i check it, in database it should update the value as yes).
    I have the following code, it does not work. I try to click and it does not get clicked, Do you have anys suggestions P;ease help.
    if (checked == null)
    TableColumn column = table.getColumn("Checked");
    checked = new JCheckBox();
    // column.setCellRenderer(new CheckedBox());
    column.setCellEditor(new DefaultCellEditor(checked));
    checked.addItemListener(new ItemListener() {
    public void itemStateChanged(ItemEvent event)
    isChecked = checked.isSelected();
    class CheckedBox extends JCheckBox implements TableCellRenderer
    public CheckedBox()
    setHorizontalAlignment(JRadioButton.CENTER);
    public Component getTableCellRendererComponent(JTable table, Object value,
    boolean isSelected, boolean hasFocus, int row, int column)
    setEnabled(((Boolean)value).booleanValue());
    return this;

    You really need to study this tutorial:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/components/table.html
    After you have read it, take a look at this example, and tweak it to suit your needs:
    import javax.swing.table.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class Test {
      public static void main(String[] args) {
        JFrame frame = new JFrame();
        frame.getContentPane().add(new JScrollPane(new JTable(new MyTableModel())));
        frame.pack();
        frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
        frame.setVisible(true);
    class MyTableModel extends AbstractTableModel {
      private String columnNames[] = new String[] {
          "Name", "Checked"
      private Class columnClasses[] = new Class[] {
          String.class, Boolean.class
      private Object data[][] = new Object[][] {
          { "One", Boolean.TRUE },
          { "Two", Boolean.FALSE },
          { "Three", Boolean.FALSE },
          { "Four", Boolean.TRUE },
      public int getColumnCount() {
        return columnNames.length;
      public int getRowCount() {
        return data.length;
      public Object getValueAt(int rowIndex, int columnIndex) {
        return data[rowIndex][columnIndex];
      public Class getColumnClass(int columnIndex) {
        return columnClasses[columnIndex];
      public String getColumnName(int columnIndex) {
        return columnNames[columnIndex];
      public boolean isCellEditable(int rowIndex, int columnIndex) {
        if (columnIndex == 1)
          return true;
        else
          return false;
      public void setValueAt(Object aValue, int rowIndex, int columnIndex) {
        data[rowIndex][columnIndex] = aValue;
    }

  • Best method to fill in tablemodels getColumnClass

    Hello,
    in my application i have several JTables. The data represented on it is derived from a database. Some columns are booleans, but because my database doesn't support booleans I use VARCHAR(1) which is a String in Java.
    All my tables are using a tablemodel which extends the DefaultTableModel. I want the booleans to be represented as a checkbox in my JTable.
    1) Where is the best place to convert the string values to boolean values (I suppose somewhere in the tablemodel) ?
    2) To get the classes of my columns I can derive them from the database itself. But should i get them every time the getColumnClass() is called or should I load them when I create my tablemodel?
    What would be the best approach here?
    I ask these questions because I know that you must be careful when changing the tablemodel to avoid that you tables are becoming slow.

    1) Convert the data when you add it to the TableModel so its only done once.
    2) The Object added to the TableModel is of the correct class. You could create an array that stores the class of each column when you create the model, but from a speed point of view this isn't as important as efficient rendering code. If all your columns will have non-null data then you could just use generic code like this:
                public Class getColumnClass(int column)
                    for (int row = 0; row < getRowCount(); row++)
                        Object o = getValueAt(row, column);
                        if (o != null)
                            return o.getClass();
                    return Object.class;
    I know that you must be careful when changing the tablemodel to avoid that you tables are becoming slowThen main concern here is for rendering of each cell. The data is only loaded into the model once so that why you would do all the conversion up front. However renderering of each cell is done much more frequently, every time you change the selection of a row, two rows get repainted. Every time you scroll multiple rows get painted. So the bigger concern is the the renderer is very efficient and doesn do an unnecessary processing.

  • JTable containing checkbox column is not getting updated

    My application has a JTable and the first column is made up of checkboxes I have added a mouse listener for this table and implementd mousePressed(MouseEvent) method also. So when the user presses the mouse on these checkboxes I will update my loca data structure. Now the problem is this, when the user presses and drags the mouse to some other place(out of the current cell) then the table is not getting updated(the cell is not changing its value). But my local data structure is getting updated as the event is already fired. Please suggest me a solution for this.
    Thanks in advance
    Varun

    thanks for your information. Actually I have seen this tutorial before but I think my case is little different. Sorry for not explaining it completely. My table has got a checkbox column header and another checkbox which is not part of the table. The second column in the table contains a user object. User can select rows by clicking on the checkbox header (select all rows/ deselect all rows), by clicking on individual cells or by clicking on the third checkbox provided for a specific purpose. So whenever the user does this "selection" operation I update one member variable in the user object which is in the second column. I tried putting my code in the setValueAt() method of my table model but couldn't make it work because of my lack of experience in swing or programming. So please tell me whether what you have suggested is valid or not. I added a mouse listener because there was a requirement to show some information to the user when he do a double click on one column of the table.

  • JTable checkboxes doesn't retain their selection when a new row is added!!

    previouslu i was using the setElement method. now i have replaced with the addRow method...
    but anyways...the control is not going to any of these overridden methods...and none of the elements are added to the table. But i comment of all the addRow, getValueAt, getColumnClass methods...then it's adding rows to the table but with only the first column all the remaiing columns are just empty...
    i am fed up with this...if you observe i have commented out somany lines...becoz i am trying to save my boolean array values into a vector..but that was also in vain...
    i appreciate for ur help...
    thanks

  • Problem with checkbox in JTable when using MyTableModel

    Hi all,
    I have been trawling these message boards for days looking for the answer to my question but have not had any success.
    I am extending AbstractTabel model to create MyTableModel which returns a vector containing the results of a MySql query. One column in this query returns a "0" or "1" which I then store as the boolean value into the vector so that it is rendered as a checkbox on the screen.
    I have also overridden the setValueAt method. THe problem is that when I attempt to check the box in the table, the checkbox isn't actually checking.
    Do I need to implement some sort of listener which picks up the user clicking the box and refresh the model?
    Here is my model code:
    public class MyTableModel extends AbstractTableModel {
        private Vector v = null;
        int listId;
        MyTableModel(int listId){
            this.listId = listId;
            v = new ListItemManagement().getFullList(listId);
       public Class getColumnClass(int c) {
            switch(c) {
                case 6:
                    return Boolean.class;
                default:
                    return Object.class;
        public String getColumnName(int colIndex){
            return ((String[])v.get(0))[colIndex];
        public int getColumnCount() {
            return ((String[])v.get(0)).length;
        public int getRowCount() {
            return (v.size() - 1);
        public Object getValueAt(int rowIndex, int colIndex) {
            return ((Object[])v.get(rowIndex + 1))[colIndex];
        public void setValueAt(Object aValue, int rowIndex, int colIndex) {
            System.out.println("Value: " + String.valueOf(aValue));
            Object row[] = (Object[]) v.elementAt(rowIndex);
            if(colIndex<6){
                row[colIndex] = (String)aValue;
            else{
                row[colIndex] = (Boolean)aValue;
            v.setElementAt(row, rowIndex);
            fireTableCellUpdated(rowIndex, colIndex);
        public boolean isCellEditable(int row, int col) {
            //Note that the data/cell address is constant,
            //no matter where the cell appears onscreen.
            return ! (col < 6);
        }Here is the getFullList function which returns the vector:
                rs = stmt.executeQuery();
                ResultSetMetaData colData = rs.getMetaData();
                int columnCount = colData.getColumnCount();
                String[] columnNames = new String[columnCount];
                for (int i = 0; i < columnCount; i++){
                    columnNames[i] = colData.getColumnName(i + 1);
                Vector v = new Vector();
                v.add(columnNames);
                while (rs.next()){
                    Object[] values = new Object[columnCount];
                    for (int i = 0; i < (columnCount-1); i++){
                        values[i] = rs.getString(i + 1);
                    int sel = rs.getInt("selected");
                    System.out.println(sel);;
                    if(sel==0){
                        values[columnCount-1]=new Boolean(false);
                    else if (sel==1)
                        values[columnCount-1]=new Boolean(true);
                    v.add(values);
                rs.close();
                stmt.close();
                return v;

    Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.
    I've looked at the Swing jtable tutorial and added a TableModelListener and have managed to achieve the desired results but for one thing.
    When I attempt to check the box on the first row of the jTable I get a runtime error:
    Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.ArrayStoreException: java.lang.Boolean
    at project.MyTableModel.setValueAt(MyTableModel.java:65)
    I have been playing around with the setValueAt method and it is in my original post. Here is how it currently looks:
        public void setValueAt(Object aValue, int rowIndex, int colIndex) {
            System.out.println("Value: " + String.valueOf(aValue));
            Object row[] = (Object[]) v.elementAt(rowIndex);
            if(colIndex<6){
                row[colIndex] = (String)aValue;
            else{
                    if(getValueAt(rowIndex,colIndex).toString()=="true"){
                    row[6] = new Boolean(false);
                else{
                    row[6] = new Boolean(true);
            v.setElementAt(row, rowIndex);
            fireTableCellUpdated(rowIndex, colIndex);
        }

  • Problem with JTable checkbox

    In my table I have a column of checkboxes. If user clicks any checkbox, the program will first check for some condition and pop out a warning dialog saying that "the action will change the current mode. are you sure you want to continue?". If user select "yes", some action are taken and the checkbox should be selected. Now the problem is that after user select "yes", the checkbox is not selected. (Same as when you press your mouse at a checkbox and then drag it out the checkbox cell, the actions are taken but the checkbox is not selected.)
    The code for the cell editor is as follows:
    public Component getTableCellEditorComponent(JTable table, Object value,
               boolean isSelected, int row, int column) {
             if (value instanceof ComboString) { // ComboString
               flg = COMBO;
               String str = (value == null) ? "" : value.toString();
               System.out.println("+++++++ " + row+" : "+column+"  flg: "+flg);
               return cellEditors[COMBO].getTableCellEditorComponent(table, str,
                   isSelected, row, column);
             else if (value instanceof Boolean) {
               flg = BOOLEAN;
               Boolean check = Boolean.getBoolean(value.toString());
                          // promptContinue returns true for continue, false for return; inside it a dialog box is popped for user selection "continue or not"
                          if(!promptContinue()){
                                return null;
               return cellEditors[BOOLEAN].getTableCellEditorComponent(table,
                   value, isSelected, row, column);

    Thanks. But my problem is not with stopping the editor, but with continuing the editor. Following is the code of getCellEditorValue()
    public Object getCellEditorValue() {
             switch (flg) {
             case COMBO:
               String str = (String) comboBox.getSelectedItem();
               return new ComboString(str);
             case BOOLEAN:
             case STRING:
               return cellEditors[flg].getCellEditorValue();
             default:
               return null;
                }I am not very sure whether it is the problem of cell editor or cell renderer, because it seems the code for continue condition is actually executed which is supposed to make the checkbox checked, but the result turns to be that the checkbox is not checked.

  • Problem with Checkbox in JTable

    This table here displays data from my MS Access database. It has 3 columns. Also I added the 4th column where this column contains checkboxes where I can select any row from the table. The checkboxes won't show except this "javax.swing.JCheckBox[,0,0,0x0,invalid,alignmentX=0.0,alignmentY=0.5,border=javax.swing.plaf.BorderUIResource$CompoundBorderUIResource@1571886,flags=296,maximumSize=,minimumSize=,preferredSize=,defaultIcon=,disabledIcon=,disabledSelectedIcon=,margin=javax.swing.plaf.InsetsUIResource[top=2,left=2,bottom=2,right=2],paintBorder=false,paintFocus=true,pressedIcon=,rolloverEnabled=true,rolloverIcon=,rolloverSelectedIcon=,selectedIcon=,text=]". I have no problem displaying the table. Here's my coding.
    public Contact() {
    super(new GridLayout(1,0));
    Vector heading = new Vector();
              heading.addElement("Name");
              heading.addElement("Contact number");
              heading.addElement("Detail");
              heading.addElement(new JCheckBox(););
              Vector data = new Vector();
    try
    // Load the Database Driver Class
    Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
    System.out.println("Driver loaded successfully.");
    // Establish a connection with parameter values for
    // database connection URL, username, password
    Connection con =
    DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:db1","","");
    System.out.println("Connection established successfully.");
    try
    // Create a statement
    Statement stmt = con.createStatement();
    System.out.println("Statement created successfully.");
    String sql = "SELECT * FROM Contact";
    String[] columnNames = {"Name", "Contact Number", "Detail"};
    ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery(sql);
    System.out.println("SQL Query executed successfully.");
    System.out.println("Output the data from the result set");
    while (rs.next())
    Vector row = new Vector();
    row.addElement(rs.getString("Name"));
    row.addElement(rs.getString("Contact number"));
    row.addElement(rs.getString("Detail"));
    row.addElement(new JCheckBox());
    data.addElement(row);
    System.out.println("Output Completed.");
              rs.close();
    stmt.close();
    finally
    con.close();
    catch (Exception e)
    e.printStackTrace();
    final JTable table = new JTable(data, heading);
    table.setPreferredScrollableViewportSize(new Dimension(500, 500));
    table.setFillsViewportHeight(true);
    JScrollPane scrollPane = new JScrollPane(table);
    add(scrollPane);
    Where have I gone wrong? Please help.

    First of all:
    a) Don't forget to use the "Code Formatting Tags", so the posted code retains its original formatting.
    http://forum.java.sun.com/help.jspa?sec=formatting
    b) In the future, Swing related questions should be posted in the Swing forum.
    Now for the answer to your question, read the JTable API. You will find a link to the Swing tutorial on "How to Use Tables" which shows you the proper way to display Boolean data with a JCheckBox renderer.

  • How to insert checkbox at a particular  cell  in jtable

    hello,
    I am a user of jdeveloper using jclient/swing .
    question:
    i am using jtable. i want that whenever i click on a specified cell then text at that particular cell get clear and a checkbox inserted in that cell . whenever i click on that checkbox i.e check the checkbox,
    again a text is inserted in that cell.
    thank you

    Did you ever get this to work? If I bind a JCheckbox to my attribute and add the checkbox to my JClient panel, the attribute value is properly bound to the checkbox with everything working correctly. Adding the checkbox as the TableCellEditor for the column doesn't work.
    Also, the link to using a Combobox as a table cell editor works, but the link doesn't tell where to donwload the sample code from. Doesn't anyone know the link?
