Chkconfig does not create right symbolic links

Hello all,
I am just adding a script to automate start / stop during Oracle Linux reboot. I figured out that the symbolic links are not created in the right order. To prove that, I create a small script for test purposes.
=====================================================
# #!/bin/sh
# Name: init.test
# chkconfig: 45 80 20
# description: Script test for chkconfig
echo "This is a test script only. chkconfig is not creating correct symbolic links."
=====================================================
Then I used chkconfig --add init.test
It should be created entries for levels 4-5 only, but it creates more soft links in rc.d directories.
find /etc -name "*init.test" | sort
/etc/rc.d/init.d/init.test
/etc/rc.d/rc0.d/K20init.test
/etc/rc.d/rc1.d/K20init.test
/etc/rc.d/rc2.d/K20init.test
/etc/rc.d/rc3.d/K20init.test
/etc/rc.d/rc4.d/S80init.test
/etc/rc.d/rc5.d/S80init.test
/etc/rc.d/rc6.d/K20init.test
Even that chkconfig show the correct levels, I am just curious why it created more kill soft links in rc.d directories.
chkconfig --list init.test
init.test      0:off     1:off     2:off     3:off     4:on     5:on     6:off
Someone could try to explain to me why the kill script has been added to runlevel 0, 1, 2, and 6? Am I missing something here?
Appreciate your help on this.

see
man chkconfigwhere you can find a good example including explanation
For example, random.init has these three lines:
       # chkconfig: 2345 20 80
       # description: Saves and restores system entropy pool for \
       #              higher quality random number generation.
This says that the random script should be started in levels 2,  3,  4,
and 5, that its start priority should be 20, and that its stop priority
should be 80.  You should be able to figure out  what  the  description
says;  the \ causes the line to be continued.  The extra space in front
       of the line is ignored.

Mac OS X Server v10.7 does not show the ethernet link aggregated interface i created. Does Lion server support ethernet link aggregated interfaces?

    Thanks for responding Cold--
Hardware: Mac Pro  3.0 GHZ quad core xeon
I read the link but it still does not explain why the aggregated dual ethernet interface does not show up in the Network tab of the hardware section Lion Server. I was able to see it on the network and looks to be using a single static IP that I assigned. My concern was that is this supported and will it allow for failover and double performance of the single network interface.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks again!

  • How can I get permission to create a symbolic link?

I am trying to create a symbolic link from a program, but I keep getting:
A required privilege is not held by the client.
I am running the program from my account which is in the Administrators group, and otherwise has admin rights. However, if I login to the Administrator account the program runs fine, so I know the program code is correct.
I have checked the local security settings, and even added my account explicitly to the local security settings to create symbolic links, but that does not help. I have also turned of UAC, but that does not help.
What do I need to do on Windows 8.1 to be able to create a symbolic link from an account other than Administrator?
    Cheers, Eric

Basically I have a Scala program that is doing:
      try {
        Files.createSymbolicLink(link21, folder1)
      catch {
        case fileSystemException: FileSystemException =>
System.err.println("\n\t**** Error configuring test fixture ***\n\n")
          println(fileSystemException)
if (fileSystemException.getMessage().contains("A required privilege is not held by the client"))
println("You need to set permissions by...\n")
Where Files is the java.nio API. In fact it's a unit test fixture that tests to make sure my code handles symbolic links properly. The test fixture creates a temporary directory, for example
    C:\Users\Eric\AppData\Local\Temp\testFolder-432432684744817467
and more files and folders below that. In one folder, it tries to make a symbolic link to another folder.
I tried what you said with Run As Administrator, in this case, I ran my Eclipse IDE as Administrator and the code works -- thanks for the tip :-)
However, in practice, I need this to work as part of automated unit test running as part of a Maven build, so is there some way to set things up that do not require "Run As Administrator"?
Now that I have one solution, I can probably figure out some hack, but I was hoping there would be some more simple straightforward way to do what I want.

  • Can I Create A Symbolic Link to folders stored on an SMB Share folder?

    Hello,
I am very new to Unix and was hoping that someone could point me in the right direction with regards to Symbolic links and an SMB share folder ....
Have purchased an ext. LAN Drive enclosure (http://www.macpower.com.tw/products/hdd3/pleiades/pd_usblan) which connects to my wireless router via ethernet like my G5 (main Mac) - our iBook connects via Airport. I have copied all my general documents/files to the SMB share folder on the ext. drive so that I can access them from the G5 and also the iBook.
However I'd also like to be able to store my actual Mail folder (/Users/Mark/Library/Mail/), , Safari folder (/Users/Mark/Library/Safari) + my Address Book and other folders sitting in the Application Support folder on my SMB share so all important docs/folders are in the one place. I've tried storing these folders on the SMB share and putting an Alias to these back in Users/Mark/Library/Mail etc but of course an Alias doesn't work.
Question 1: Can I create a symbolic link to these files if these are stored on an SMB share folder? If so, could you please tell me exactly what I'd need to type into Terminal? My SMB Share path is smb://STORAGE-XXXX/MARK
I have copied my iPhoto library and iTunes library to the SMB share and are working fine.
Question 2: Is it possible/worth attempting to move my whole home folder to the SMB share folder? Ideally, I'd like to be able to access my Mail from the iBook as well. If I could log into either the G5 or the iBook and access my latest Mail, Address Book and other Application Settings, that would be perfect. Would this be possible?
    Thanks
    Mark.
    Dual 1.8GHz G5 (Rev.B), 2Gig RAM, 9600XT   Mac OS X (10.4)

    Dear Mark,
Yes you can. The command to create a link will look something like this:
    $ ln -s thisFolder /Users/mark/thatFolder
I did this while I was hosting a microsoft based game. This put all of the players into a common directory.
SMB just resolved the link and everything worked fine.
However, as I understand it, some other applications do NOT work very well with links. As I have NOT tried it with other applications, I fear I can be of NO help to you in this matter.
The only way to find out which applications work with links is to try them and see what happens.
    Best of luck,
    Kurt

  • Can Adobe Air Create a Symbolic Link (aka shortcut) ?

Greetings,  I am working on an AIR application that automatically creates a directory tree for the user. Because there are many levels to the tree I want to have symbolic links to certain folders and files at the top level to speed navigation.   Can AIR create symbolic links ?  If not can anyone suggest a work around as this limitation would be  bad for my project.

I thought I would post a few comments that might help others.
First, there does not seem to exist a symbolic link that is crossplatform regardless of the filesystem used (e.g., NTSF, FAT32, etc.).  In other words if you create a symbolic link in Windows XP on a network drive and then try to view that shortcut in Linux, Linux will not understand the shortcut. I tried  both the Junction and shortcut approaches.  Similarly is I create a symbolic link (ln -s) in Linux on a network drive, a Windows machine will not interpret it properly.  Since my app needs to support a heterogenous computers on a single LAN then I am SOL.
However, if you have an app that will only be used by computers of the same type, or on a single computer, you can create symbolic links using Air V2.0. Air V2.0 supports calling executables/batch files and passing information to STDIN and getting STDOUT.  You could then write a batch file in whatever OS you are using.  However other than creating junctions using MS-DOS's linkd, I don't know how you would do this on Windows XP machine.
If anyone has further comments on this thread I would be grateful.

In MS Outlook 2010 Add in Create pdf- does not create pdf of draft emails- this maybe the case, but just wanted to make sure this is normal for the program- though I guess one can print as an Adobe pdf but it does not maintain the hyperlinks of email addresses etc. the functionality is compromised in a print vs create a pdf.

Here's a workaround by the team:
Right click on the message from Explorer list view or folder view and chose the option to convert to PDF.

  • Does ucf.jar preserve symbolic links in native plugins

    Hi everybody,
First of all, this question is not the same as:
    Does ucf.jar handle symbolic links?
My question is: I have a native plugin for InDesign CC 2014 (.InDesignPlugin) on a Mac. I wish to package it (with some other stuff: another zxp containing Flex panels, and some Java jars) in a ZXP. To do so, there are two ways of doing it: using ucf.jar or using ZXPSignCmd.
This post here decided me to use ucf.jar, because of this citation:
"You may ask why the ucf.jar and not ZXPSignCmd: the reason is that, in order to be CS6 compatible, ucf.jar is the tool of choice."
There are no explanation, and I decided to trust the author. Maybe is it an error?
I am able to construct a ZXP and install it with the extension manager. But the installed plugin does not work well. The reason is (I'm pretty sure of it) all the symbolic links of the plugins were replaced by the target of the links. I say I'm pretty sure, because when I use directly the plugin before packaging it in the ZXP, everything is fine. The only difference I could find are these symbolic links that have been transformed.
In parallel, I tried packaging the ZXP using ZXPSignCmd, and this seems to work fine. This surprised me, because of the link to the blog I mentioned above.
My ZXP must work with InDesign from CS5 to CC 2014.
The question is: how to handle symbolic links on mac with ucf.jar?
Bonus question: why should I not use ZXPSignCmd?
    Thanks

If the file exists, then the pointed-to files are packaged, instead of the symbolic link itself, which is not what I'm after either; this is a link which will be correct on the destination after the bundle is unpacked, but which may not yet be present on the system doing the packaging. I think this may be related to http://forums.adobe.com/message/4681087#4681087 , though it is not exactly the same problem.
Perhaps to rephrase my question then:
How may I package a symbolic link using ucf.jar?
At the moment there are two options:
    • Destination pointed to by link does not exist -> failure with “file not found”.
    • Destination pointed to by link does exist -> package is built containing the destination file, not the symbolic link.
Neither of these behaviours is what I want: I want to package the link!

  • MRP does not creates Shcedule Line

I have a valid scheduling agreement LPA in place. Scheduling Agreement is approved and released status.
I have source list also maintained for same scheduling agreement with long validity and MRP indicator as 2 - Create Schedule line automatically.
I am running MRP using following parameters in MD02.
Processing key          NETCH               Net Change in Total Horizon
Create purchase req.    3                   Planned orders
    Delivery schedules      3                   Schedule lines
Create MRP list         1                   MRP list
Planning mode           3                   Delete and recreate planning data
Scheduling              2                   Lead Time Scheduling and Capacity Planni
Even schedule line and other parameters maintained properly, MRP creates planned order and does not creates Schedule Line automatically. Material Master is maintained MRP Type PD, Lot Size as Replenishment to maximum stock level, Safety stock, No strategy and availability on.
What I am doing wrong? With same setting in other system it is working perfectly fine.
    Any feedback appreciated.
    Thanks
    PP

    Hi
Check whether the Agreement Open Target value .
If the target quantity was completed . so system will not create the Schedule lines for the material
    2. If you mainatian the open period in the smk.
so system will create the planned order instead of schedule agreement. check

Mail does not create new emails based on the highlighted mailbox, but rather according the receiving mailbox of whatever individual email happens to be highlighted. This was not the case prior to Lion. Is this a bug or an error on my part? (I do have the setting for creating new emails from the highlighted mailbox checked.)

The questions about time was not only because of thinking about the Time Machine, but also possible impact on recognizing which messages remaining on a POP server (doesn't apply to IMAP) have been already downloaded. In the Mail folder, at its root level, in Mail 3.x there is a file named MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3 that should prevent duplicate downloading -- some servers may not communicate the best with respect to that, and the universal index must certainly be involved in updating that index file. If it corrupts, it can inhibit proper downloading. However, setting the account up in a New User Account and having the same problem does not point that way, unless your POP3 server is very different from most.
That universal index is also typically involved when messages are meant to be moved from the Inbox to another mailbox -- in Mail 3.x the message does not move, but rather is copied, and then erased from the origin mailbox. That requires updating the Envelope Index to keep track of where the message is, and should keep track of where it is supposed to have been removed after the "Move".

  • Adobe After Effects CC 2014 Multi-machine rendering does not create RCF after Collect-File

This was working in the previous release.  After going through all of the steps to perform a multi-machine render, not only does it say it is limiting it to 5 machines instead of the usual 99 (and I have over 100 cores on the render farm) but "Collect Files" (File/Dependencies/Collect Files) does not create the Render Control File (RCF) that kicks off the process on the other machines, like it did before and is supposed to do.
This release was supposed to fix the 32 core limitation on render nodes (my server has 48), but now does nothing at all.
Anyway, I assume there is a check box somewhere that says "do something" that hasn't been checked and another that says "Maybe my machine has more than 5 cores", and I would appreciate being steered in the direction of these new mis-features.
Just as background, the 48 core server does show the little TV screen that monitors the watch folder, and I know for a fact that process looks for the "RCF" file.  Looking at the directory specified for "collect files", I can see that no RCF file is created, only 1 file, a report.txt file which contains this information is produced:
    Report created:
      7/9/2014 1:54:12 AM
    Project name: highup.aep
    Source files collected to:
      P:\temp\highup folder

    Rendering plug-ins:
      Classic 3D
    Effects used:  1
    Effect:  Detail-preserving Upscale

The dialog box has been slightly refactored.  You must click "Allow watch folder rendering" and then all is good.  Hope this helps anyone else.  Thanks to Rafil at customer support chat for this.

SQLJ Translation does not create profile file.
After translating a small file HelloWorld.sqlj
    the following files are created:
    HelloWorld_SJProfileKeys.class
    HelloWorld.class
    HelloWorld.java
Although there is a HelloWorld_SJProfileKeys.class, profile file HelloWorld_SJProfile0.ser has NOT been created.
The starting file .sqlj file HelloWorld.sqlj is taken from O'Reilly book 'Java Programming with Oracle SQLJ' by Jason Price. The file contains a valid SQL statement to display the date.
My environment variables were set up with instructions from:
    http://www.onjava.com/pub/a/onjava/2001/12/05/learning_sqlj.html
When I run java HelloWorld to run the .java file, I get the error:
    SQLException java.sql.SQLException: profile HelloWorld_SJProfile0 not found: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: HelloWorld_SJProfile0
I searched the internet high and low for a similar error to mine but I could not find a match.
I read the following text from http://otn.oracle.com/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/htdocs/faq.html#translationerrors
but it does not help me.
    "ClassNotFoundException: xxx.yyy_SJProfile0 for class xxx.yyy_SJProfileKeys

    java.sql.SQLException: profile xxx.yyy_SJProfile0 not found:
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException:

then you must ensure that the SQLJ profile(s), such as xxx/yyy_SJProfile0.ser, is available in the SQLJ runtime environment. This includes JARing this file as part of an applet deployment, or publishing it to the server via loadjava.
