Choosing NTSC or PAL for uploading to YouTube

I'm trying to upload a movie shot in NTSC to YouTube butonly see choices for PAL resolution.  How can I bring up NTSC choices?

If you're uploading to YouTube, it shouldn't make a difference. YouTube ultimately uses web-based formats that are neither PAL or NTSC.

  • Quicktime Pro VS Sorenson Squeeze which is better for uploading to YouTube?

I'm thinking of buying Quicktime Pro or Sorenson Squeeze - which is better for uploading to YouTube? Which would give my video better quality?
Also, with regard to Sorenson Squeeze: The website says these are its requirements - could someone explain what each of them means in logical terms?
    Mac OS X system requires:
Power PC with G5 processor or greater or Intel processor - (I'll be using this program with a MacBook Pro - will this work?)
Mac OS X 10.4 or later - (Again, will this work with a MacBook Pro?)
    512 MB of RAM
    QuickTime 7.2 or later
DirectX 9.0b or later (What is this and how will I get it? Is it free?)
    * Mac users must have the Flip4Mac plugin from Telestream (Is this plugin free?) ** Windows only feature * Plugin sold separately
Please be as specific as possible.
Thank you so much in advance for answering my questions! It is really helpful!

    First.
You have no control over the conversion to Flash video (done during the YouTube upload) if you use QuickTime .mov format.
    Second.
YouTube does allow H.264 Video for its "high quality" display so you would want a QuickTime .mov container.
Now you are even more confused than when you started.
Flip4Mac allows export from QuickTime (and apps like iMovie that use it) to Windows Media Player (.wmv) formats. They will also be converted to Flash Video by YouTube so you gain nothing by using it.
You don't need Squeeze, QuickTime Pro or the Flip4Mac upgrades. Just use iMovie 7 (part of iLife '08).

  • Can  A imovie file in DV-Pal) bre uploaded to youtube

I am making a video for youtube and I imported some .avi video footage into iMovie HD as DV -PAL. In the meantime I forgot to reset it back to NTSC before I imported the footages. I now have the footages in Pal only as I trashed the original footage from my camera ( very careless). Can I still upload the video as DV-PAL for youtube ?

I believe the solution you are looking for is handled by YouTube. When you upload the video to youtube you'll see a "upload in progress" page. This page will give you the option to provide a "Title of the Video", meta-data key word tags, allow you to select a category of the video, and provide a summary of what the video is about (Evidence exists about ancient space aliens!). The **default** to your Title of the Video is what the video is called on your hard drive but you can change it.
I *think* - if I'm interpreting your question, this is what you are asking.

  • How to complete FCE video for upload to youtube

    Hi Apple Community,
Does any one know how, exactly step by step
how to finish FCE video for SUCCESFUL upload
to youtube? I so appreciate your help.

    Check this out.
    Note the link to supported
formats. You probably want to give them an h.264 .mov file. If you don't have Compressor, export using QT Conversion. Or download the free MPEG Streamclip and have it do the transcode (in which case you would export from FCE as a QT Movie Current Settings).
    Good luck.

  • Can't get drop down menu for uploading to YouTube (Pre8)

I have uploaded projects to YouTube before but for some reason this time, I don’t get an active YouTube location bar to give me the drop down menu to log on, etc. Share / Online / Online: Choose location and settings: Photoshop.com and My Website do work, but not YouTube or Podbean.

Sorry Steve for not replying earlier.
I will try that next time I run Pre8.

  • Exporting AVCHD to mp4 from final cut for uploading to youtube (apple prores, .MOV, h264, x264, handbrake)

    Hello everybody,
I Edit 1920x1080 AVCHD in Final Cut 7. Working with apple prores to export video to mp4 and then upload it to youtube. The goal is obviously the least quality loss in the process and to get a file as light as possible. Which of these three options is correct?
    1. Export to mp4 from Final Cut (using quicktime conversion): h264 codec and bitrate 8000 kbps.
    2. Export to .MOV from Final Cut (using quicktime conversion): h264 codec. Then, use handbrake (mp4 / x264 ).
    3. Export apple prores sequence to. MOV from Final Cut (using quicktime movie). Then, use handbrake program (mp4 / X264 codec)
    thanks a lot!

One friend told me dont choose none of the three options...
Told me about exporting a reference movie from timeline and then take the reference file into compressor.
I finally took the reference file and took him to compressor. I installed x264 and got one .mov very heavy, so I had to use the handbrake to get less weight and get mp4.
I did the same operation in streamclip and got a mp4 file (x264) with same size than .mov (compressor). So in both cases, if I want the less size I have to go on 2 steps (first compressor or streamclip and then handbrake ..)
    any more suggestions? :-)

  • What setting should I use to save file for upload to youtube

    Hi,
the link below is the video on youtube that I just saved using the first setting that I always use using Flash.  Now because of the change over, as we have discussed I have to save the file then upload it for sites I upload to after the change.  I know I can save it on the For Windows one but it is not HD.  As you will see when you play this video it is all shakey (and not because I am shaking the camera   ).
The other link is the non shakey saved for windows version.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfjoqXIm2q0 Flash
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2OwQ3GTSPE (saved For Windows)
Should I just resign my self to using the work around and use the save for Windows and not the FLASH.  or is there a setting I can use that gets rid of the shake.   However, since most of what I post is for people trying to sell their horses I would like the best quality I can get up on YouTube.
Thanks for your help.  I really do appreciate it very much.  Saves me hours of time.
    Sarah

Because YouTube is so unpredictable -- and always changing it encoding systems -- your best bet is to use the workaround and output as a WMV file.

  • Does iMovie offer a simple way to split a movie for upload to YouTube?

Is there some way that I can tell iMovie to take the entire length of a movie and divide it into X# of parts and save the parts to the project library?
For example. I have a 24 minute movie and I need to get it into (3) equal parts. Is there some way to have iMovie save into Part1- 00:08:00, Part2- 00:08:00, Part3- 00:08:00
    -or-
Let's say I wanted to divide the movie into (4) equal parts
    Part1- 00:06:00, Part2- 00:06:00, Part3- 00:06:00, Part4- 00:06:00
    -or-
Let's say I wanted to divide the movie into (2) equal parts
    Part1- 00:12:00, Part2- 00:12:00
    You get the picture....
Is there a fast friendly way of doing this?

  • Workflow for converting NTSC to PAL with Premiere/AME

    Hi everyone,
After searching the forums, I see that to convert NTSC to PAL for  standard def DVD, most recommend using Canopus Procoder software for the  MPEG2 encoding, or using a hardware based solution.  I don't have the  money for those options, so I was hoping you could clear up something  for me.  Which of these options is best?:
Option #1:  import the NTSC footage into Premiere and edit on a NTSC  timeline with settings matching the original footage.  Then use Adobe  Media Encoder to encode a PAL format MPEG2 file for the standard def  DVD.
Option #2:  import the NTSC footage into Premiere and edit on a  timeline set up with PAL resolution and framerate settings, and simply  scale up the NTSC footage to match the larger PAL resolution.  Then use  Adobe Media Encoder to encode a PAL format MPEG2 file for the standard  def DVD.
    Thanks for the help!!

pal to ntsc is not quite the same as ntsc to pal.
pal has more scanlines and there for makes a better end result to ntsc than ntsc to pal.
Usually ntsc converted to pal does not look very good on a tv.
That's why i recommend to leave it in ntsc, most pal players can be switched to ntsc.

  • NTSC to PAL / 24fps

    Hi guys,
I'm shooting a tv show for MTV tr in New York City and since it will air in Europe it has to be set in PAL so I am unsure on how to deal with the settings.
I have NTSC 24fps footage that needs to be edited. My question is when I start a new project in Premiere CS3 should I choose NTSC or PAL or should I start editing in NTSC and convert it to PAL?
Second question, when I import the footage in Premiere which, is located in my external hard drive with usb 2.0, the video seems jerky or choppy on the camera movements such as panning and any fast camera moves. Do you know how or where I can adjust this problem? Could it be that my project was shot in 24 fps and the new project file fps is 29.97? I didn't change any fps settings in the new project, so I assumed it's automatically 29.97.
    My computer:
    Windows XP
    2.80GHz Pentium D CPU
    2.00GB RAM
Third question, should I render my project and burn a DVD or does it render when you burn a DVD automatically?
Can anyone please help me with this?
    Thank you so much!
    Firat

From what you have described and looking at the specs I feel there is little chance of your program being accepted for television anywhere.
    Need some answers...
What camera was used to shoot the footage at 24fps? Is it DV or HDV?
Why did you not choose a project setting of 24fps rather than 29.97?
Why did you use USB to transfer files rather than Firewire?
Capturing USB sort of indicates that your camera is DVD or HDD based and using Mpeg files which CS3 doesn't like, nor do TV stations.
Don't worry too much about burning a DVD until you work out if the footage is editable.

  • Rendering + uploading to youtube

Can someone explain the rendering process and how best to make it work
I create a project. Everytime I make a change, the video has to re-render. OK, I get this
The problem is, I'll make a change...
I'll come out of the project and start editing the new project - the first project hasnt stopped rendering yet
I'll create anothe project, then another, then another etc
If I go back to the first project some time later, I will find that it hasnt finished rendering
What should I do? Can I mass select projects and set them to render?
If I select 'render all' from within a project, does that then render all projects outstanding - even ones outside?
How can I control this? Can I leave the rendering until I've finished everything??
Since, the rendering eats up CPU and power - I assume?
I've experienced the app not responding when double clicking something - I assume this is because it's caught up processing?
Youtube: I edit projects and want to just upload
It's frustrating, since the uploading process seems to be cumbersome
+ I have to wait for rendering to finish
Can I choose: mass render, then mass upload to youtube?
    Thanks
    Omar

Whatever you export from your timeline has to be rendered, but you don't need to explicitly render it yourself. FCP X takes care of that.
If you have projects sitting around that you are not working on, there is no point in getting them all rendered. This would create render files that will be occupying disk space.

  • Converting ntsc dvd to pal for web

hi , i am based in uk and I have a dvd that apparently is ntsc as it plays in my dvd player and says ntsc region, it plays on the computer to.
I want to take small segments from it to convert to web format , add titles etc and upload to youtube.\
trouble is i cant rip the files to use in final cut pro, tried media streamclip but that produces jerky unusable files with random drop out and colours
I then thought play it realtime into fcp , it will play going by a firewire into capture and i see it but when capturing it stops every few seconds saying there is dropout I unchecked report on droped frames, and abourt on dropout. and capturing without deck control. i then tried to go through my dv camera but that doesnt see the picture only the sound.
I thought I could copy the dvd but it wont work either on my dvd recorder or with toast.
any suggestions how I can do this? does it need converting first if so how?
I am only using a few minutes of at least 90 minutes of footage .
    thankyou
    ade

    >Maybe worth a feature request for CS5?
    God in heaven - NO!
As Joe just pointed out, these are 2 completely different TV standards, running on different frame rates at different resolutions.
The results of attempting this "on the fly" with menus etc would very closely resemble a dogs dinner.
    >I would therefore guess that you are stuck with copying the menus and other such assets into a new Encore project for each output format.
    That won't work.
NTSC is 720x480, PAL is 720x576. They have different PAR as well.
If compliance is what you need, then design your menus in Square Pixels at 720 x 540, and resize the image (in PS) to the required TV standard before importing into Encore. 16/9 is worse, as you need to use different designs for each TV standard. There are no short-cuts.
    Asset preparation should be done
    i outside
    the authoring application, never
    i in
    it.

  • How to edit JVC/Panasonic/Canon .mod video in Windows Movie Maker then upload to YouTube for sharing

    Quick View:
Part 1: How to import .mod video to Windows Movie Maker
Part 2: How to edit the video with Windows Movie Maker
Part 3: How to upload your video to YouTube
    Know More:
    1. Which Camcorders record video in .MOD type?
    2. What file types are supported by Windows Movie Maker?
    3. What file types are supported by YouTube?
Part 1: How to import .mod video to Windows Movie Maker
    Step 1: Load files
First copy the MOD file from your video camera to your hard drive, then download, install and run MOD Converter, click the "Add Files" button to browse your computer hard disc and load the MOD/TOD video files you want to convert to the program.
    Step 2: Output Setting
In the bottom of the main interface, select an output format supported by Windows Movie Maker for each video file and specify a directory on your computer to save the output files.
    Step 3: Start convert
Click "Start" button on right bottom of the main interface, you are allowed to start conversion.
Step 4: Import converted video to Windows Movie Maker
Click on "File". Then click on "Import". A window will appear. In the window, navigate to the video clip you converted just now. Then double click on the file. You'll see the icon for the file in your Windows Movie Maker "Collections".
Part 2: How to edit the video with Windows Movie Maker
Step 1: Add transitions and special effects
In the Movie Tasks pane, under Edit Movie, click View video transitions.
Preview transitions by double-clicking them and watching the Preview Monitor. Once you've found a transition you like, drag it from the Video Transitions pane, under Edit Movie pane to the box between two of your clips. This inserts the transition between the two clips.
Step 2: Add titles and credits
If you want to add a title before, after, or on top of a clip, click the clip on the storyboard or timeline.
In the Movie Tasks pane, under Edit Movie, click Make titles or credits.
    Step 3: Add Music
In the Movie Tasks pane in Movie Maker, under Capture Video, click Import audio or music.
In the Import File dialog box, click the name of the song you want to use in the background. Then click Import. This adds your song to your collection but does not add it to your video. Drag the song from the collection to the video clip where you want the music to start playing.
    Step 4: Add narration
If you have a desktop computer, connect a microphone. Microphones are available from most electronics stores. If you have a portable computer, you can use the built-in microphone. However, you will get a better-quality recording if you connect an external microphone. In Movie Maker, click the Tools menu, and then click Narrate Timeline. On the timeline, click the clip you want to narrate. You can narrate clips one at a time, or you can narrate the entire movie all at once. If you narrate individual clips, you can rearrange them later and keep your narration synchronized. If the narration is too loud or too soft in comparison to the movie, right-click the narration on your timeline, and then click Volume.
Step 5: To save your movie to your computer
In the Movie Tasks pane, under Finish Movie, click Save to my computer.
The Save Movie Wizard appears. On the Save Movie File page, type a name for your movie. You can also choose a folder to save it in by clicking the Browse button, but My Videos (the default) is usually the best place to save your movie. Then click Next. On the Movie Setting page, click Next to accept the default setting of Best quality for playback on my computer.
Movie Maker saves your movie, which might take several minutes. On the Completing the Save Movie Wizard page, click Finish. If Play movie when I click Finish was selected (it is selected by default), the movie will automatically play in Windows Media Player. Now you can watch your videos anytime by opening your My Videos folder and double-clicking your movie.
Part 3: How to upload my video to YouTube
A video file should meet the following requirements so that it can be uploaded to YouTube site.
    1. In an acceptable format: WMV, MPEG4, MOV, AVI and MPEG.
    2. Video length is shorter 10 minutes.
    3. File size is smaller than 1GB.
Step 1: Sign up a YouTube account or Gmail account, then click the Upload button on any YouTube web page. See the figure below:
Step 2: Type in the information of your video file, including Title, Description, Category and tags. To increase the chances that your video can be easily found, you should put as much information as possible.
Step 3: Set this video to be public or private.
Step 4: Click the "Upload a video" button. When you see the next window, click the "Browse" button to select the video file you want to upload. Then click the "Upload Video" button to upload it. After the upload is finished, you will see the completion page. See the figure below:
Step 5: Click "My Videos" and you will see the video.
    Know More:
    1. Which Camcorders record video in .MOD type?

  • Uploading NTSC and PAL

I have a 8 year old sony handicam from europe so it shoots in pal. For uploading to my mac, will it also take my old NTSC tapes? I'm pretty sure some of the tapes I've uploaded were shot in american on ntsc. How do I know if a dv tape was shot in pal or ntsc?

best to my knowledge, miniDV camcorders are 'hardwired' to one standard.
    means: for PAL-tapes you need a PAL-camera, for NTSC-tapes a corresponding cam.
For sure, your Mac/iMovie accept any standards...
miniDV is a 'dying' format, you should get used cameras for lil' money, although it is recommended to use for playback the cam you used for recording.. but if this isn't optional...
And, no, there's no 'label' outside a tape indicating what format was used.
There were rare devices claiming to playback both standards, but those create a non-standard signal which in 99% cases create issues on import...
search eBay for some <50$ devices, optics can be broken, you just need 'player'-functionality....
