CJC Temperature sensor measurement on SCB-100

I am trying to measure temperature at CJC-T sensor on SCB-100 box. I grounded the differential channel "0" (short-circuited pins 2,3 and 4). I am measuring a temperature reading(22.3 Deg Cel) at channel "0" (I am not sure if it correct) when CJC was disabled (S4 and S5 in down position) but some junk when I have the CJC enabled(S4 and S5 in up position). Moreover, it shows the same reading even when the SCB-100 box is put in a heated chamber. why?
I have similar problems with an external thermocouple too. Ironically, it reads when CJC is disabled and nothing when CJC is enabled. Am I missing something that needs to be done? I am also attaching the SCB-100 manual for quick reference.

Also, make sure that you have selected the scb-100 as the accessory for the DAQ board. You can do this by right-clicking on the DAQ board under devices and interfaces in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) and selecting "Properties," going to the Accessory tab, and then choosing the scb-100 (check the CJC jumper set). Once you do this, you can create virtual channels in MAX and will want to select "built-in" for the CJC of the thermocouple virtual channel.

    Hi All,
    Is it possible to read the value of the internal temperature sensor of the SCB68?
    I am using NI PXI-6259 card. I have set the SCB 68 switches to 'MIO with differential temperature sensor mode' and i think i should be able to read the sensor value on AI0 and AI8 in differential mode. - As per page 6 of the user guide.
    Initially i would like to read the value using MAX, but i am struggling to setup MAX to read the sensor.
    I open max, find the 6259 card, open test panel, but then i can't see anything that looks like AI0 / AI8 differential mode.
    Will the value be in degrees C, or will it be a number that requires scaling?

    The value read would be a voltage so would need scaling. The temp sensor in the SCB 68 is used to calculated the CJC of a connected temperature sensor. Below is a useful link on how to do this.

    I see no reason why you couldnt read the voltage read from the daqmx task as described in the link.

  • Can FieldPoint be configured for use with 4 wire temperature sensors?

    I would like to build a fieldpoint-based measurement system that is configured to accept 4 wire type low temperature sensors, pressure sensors, and several 4 wire (100ma) magnetic hall sensors.  Each 4 wire temperature and magnetic hall sensor will require a stable current source (20ma -100ma range).   We need to be able to synchronously read up to 8 sensors.  Under certain circumstances we would like update rates up to 50 Hz (0.02 seconds) on all 8 channels.  We currently have FieldPoint products, such as FP-1001 modules (RS-485 Network Interface), FP AI-110 modules (8 channel, 16 bit analog input), FP-RTD-122 modules (8 channel RTD input), FP-RLY-420 modules (SPST Relay), FP-TB-1 (36 screw terminal, Universal Terminal Base), NI-SCC-68 (68 pin Terminal Block with 4SCC expansion slots), PCI-8431 (RS-485 Serial 2 Channel Card), and other FP modules on hand that we would like to use in this experiment design if possible.  I would like more information on the NI FP-RTD-124, (4 wire, 8 ch., 16 bit RTD input module) regarding use with platinum RTDs and low level/low temperature signals, and maximum refresh rates.  Thanks for your help,

    Hi LGF.  FP-RTD-124 info is here: (c)FP-RTD-124 manual.
    The range of the -124 on the low end is -200C; we use it to -196C with 100 ohm Platinum sensors with good results.
    The update rate, ~ 1S, however, is not going to meet your requirements. Can your temperatures really change that rapidly?
    The excitation is fixed at 2mA x 135 mS with a period of 1S.  Fine for an RTD, don't know about your Hall sensors.
    Your AI-110 module can be configured to read the Hall sensors with external excitation but the maximum update rate is 0.173S.

  • Why is AIGND on SCB-100 connected to mains earth through PCI6031E?

    I have a PCI-6031E DAC card connected to an SCB-100.  I am trying to measure non-referenced differential signals, and via the application notes realise that i must use two bias resistors to AIGND from the +ve and -ve terminals of each channel.
    However i can't quite understand why the AIGND pin inside the SCB-100 is connected to mains earth through the DAC card.   Surely any disturbances on the earth due to the operation/swiitching of other equipment on our site will produce disturbances on the reference of the DAC card, and hence effect the data that i am recording?
    Or is this connection not direct, i.e through a resistor for example?
    Any guidance would be much appreciated.

    Hi,
      the resistors are both tied to the same point, ergo any change in voltage on the earth line will appear on both signal lines (aix+ and aix-).
    Since this is a differential input, they will be cancelled out as a common mode voltage.
    The purpose of the resistors is to prevent the input voltages to the aix+ and aix- floating off. You're measuring a differential voltage, say 10V, but that could be at 50V on the aix- and 60V on the aix+. That would damage the card, and without the resistors, the signals from a true floating source could continuously float up and down.
    You're quite correct in the fact that aignd is also pc or system earth, and you can get mains earth signals on this pin, hence the reason we recommend NRSE or differential as the better two input types.

  • Lenovo G550 GPU temperature sensor

    Hi everyone, 
    I have lenovo G550 laptop and there is a problem with GPU (NVIDIA GeForce G210M) temperature sensor. So, when i turn on laptop the sensor is showing 'bout 70°C and when i run some programs like Chrome, paint etc. the temperature jumps over 95 °C. But the problem is that laptop is COLD , temperature is OK.  The air from fan is COLD, not warm. 
    I have opened it and cleaned it from dust, it's clean like in pharmacy store.  When temperature reach 100°C the laptop turns off automatically but it is still cold :/.
    . I updated BIOS and it's even worse :/  sensor on start show 90°C and then raising :/. I also tried serval diferent versions of NVIDIA drivers.
    So,  maybe it's hardware problem with sensor, and i'm wondering is there anyway to deal with it? Or how can i set the the max value of temperature where laptop shut down automaticallly (there is no such option in BIOS) ?

    I solved it, 
    the problem was in thermal paste and some protective  nylon over GPU. The nylon was detached on some parts  and I removed it at all. Then noticed that there is a litle bit of thermal paste on one of the components on GPU. I cleared it, and temperature is 50°C. The thermal paste probably covered temperature sensor and cause a false reading of sensor.

  • PXI 6512 to PXI 6511 using SCB-100

    Hi;
    Using LabView 8.6, I want to pass a discrete signal from a PXI 6512 (DO) to a PXI 6511(DI).
    Each of these cards have a SCB-100 connector block. I have set the switches (S1 to S6) of each card to "DIO passthrough" as specified in SCB-100 Installation Guide Figure 3.
    I'm using the following NI examples: Write Dig Chan.vi (running on 6512) and Read Dig Chan-Change Detection (running on 6511)
    1. I have connected the PXI 6512 SCB-100 pin #1 (Port 0 Line 0) to PXI 6511 SCB-100 pin #1 (Port 0 Line 0).
        Result: I does not work; that is:
                                              a) Changing voltage on 6512 is not detected on 6511 vi
                                              b) Changing voltage on 6512 MAX is not detected on 6511 vi
    2. I have a connected both pin #1 to pin #1 and pin # 9 (GRND) to pin #9 (GRND), doing the same as above (1.a and 1.b) , it still does not work.
    3. To make things worse, I put a voltmeter on the SCB-100 pins of 6512, no voltage is generated.
    I wonder:
        - How to connect two SCB-100 connectors for my case? is there something special to do in addition to setting the switches ?
        - How can I be sure using MAX that my cards are OK?
        -  What are the correct driver versions (is it "traditional DAQ driver"?) for my cards?

    Hello KizKas,
    When performing the write to the digital channel, have you tested other lines other that Port 0 Line 0?  Have you tried using a different breakout box, or a different cable?  Have you double-checked all of your connections? If you could try all of these steps and measure the voltage on the line using a voltmeter you should get more information on what is wrong with your system.
    The only steps you can perform in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) to check to see if everything is working with your system is to first check to make sure that the icon next to your device under My System»Devices and Interfaces»NI-DAQmx Devices is green.

    You can also attempt to reset the device or perform a self-test on the device itself by clicking on the device and clicking on the appropriate buttons.

    For these devices the correct driver to use would be NI-DAQmx 8.8.

  • Can SCC-RTD01 be used with Cernox RTD's, silicon diode temperature sensors?

    Hi,
       Can the SCC-RTD01 be used with negative temperature
    coefficient RTD's such as the Cernox RTD's.  Can it be used with
    silicon diode temperature sensors?
       I was planning on using the SCC-RTD01 with platinum
    resistance wires, but want a screw mount type sensor.  Couldn't
    find any platinum RTD devices with screw mounts, but could find the
    Cernox and diode temperature sensors with the screw mounts.

    Mark,
    Thank you for contacting National Instruments!  When you configure an RTD channel in the Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX), you have the option of choosing from a list of "standard" RTD's or entering your own polynomial expression as the temperature coefficients.  Therefore, negative coefficients shouldn't pose a problem.  Also, I don't see any reason why a silicon diode temperature sensor would pose a problem either.

  • TE0720 Internal Temperature Sensor questions

    I have a few questions about the TE0720 internal temperature sensor.  I am able to get the value, but I am wondering where is it measured, and is it the junction temperature that's rated for 85C?  I'm also wondering if there is a calibration procedure for the sensor or if it's automatically calibrated; and what is the variation of the sensor between chips if any.

    I think its the FPGA internal temperature diode, read via the info adc block of the fpga, so the numbers are in the data sheet.

  • My blackbook's temperature-sensores are gone?!

    i got a blackbook .. the 2nd mainboar, and a new heatsink .. since then, my random shutdown is gone .. lucky me.
    but now .. suddenly one morning .. it seems that the CPU-temperature-sensores are gone.
    core2temp, istat isn't longer displaying the temperature .. temperaturmonitor is telling me: cpu1, cpu2 - the sensores aren't connected. but the HD-sensore is displaying the temperature.
    what's going on???

    yes i uninstalled/reinstalled several times .. i got two other apps/widgets which don't display the temp anymore too .. core2temp and istatpro .. i uninstalled/reinstalled these too .. i also repaired permissons and reset pram .. no effect!
    perhaps my service-point damaged something? because of opening my book several times to chance the mainboard and later to chance the heatsink?
    next week i get a new bottom-case for my blackbook .. because the service-point have scratched it when they opened my blackbook .. i hope they haven't damaged more than this!!
    i am frustrated .. first the internal HD was damaged, i got a new one .. then random shutdown, i got a new mainboard, no effect, so i got a new heatsink .. damaged the bottom-case, so i'll get a new one .. and now this. i got my blackbook now for 4 months .. 1 month out of this 4 it was in repair.

    Hi elahetal.  The LV vs. LV RT decision really depends on what your timing requirements are.
    RT isn't necessarily about being as fast as possible, but rather as consistent as possible.
    If you have a measurement that must be taken every 100mS +/- 2mS then you pretty much have to use RT.  A general purpose OS like Windows will randomly go off and do other things (read a cd, feed the printer, index the disk, etc.), causing your measurement to be late.
    An RT environment will allow you to determine precisely when the system should do what.  The trade-off is that the RT environment is somewhat restricted, in that you don't have all the bells and whistles of a gp OS.
    If your measurement must be taken every 15S +/- 10S then you may very well get away with standard LV on a PC.
    In some instances, a combination works well.  For example, RT on FieldPoint or CRIO to handle the time sensitive issues and LV on a PC to handle the user interface and data analysis.
    Hope that helps, please elaborate on your requirements if you wish.

  • PXI 6514 SCB-100 Help

    hi all,
    I tried many times to get a Digital Out from that box. But without any success.
    I have a board with i need to pull 32 Pionts down to zero. And I have PXI 6514 SCB 100 and PXI 6733 SCB 68.
    I made it at the 6733 to bring a signal out of the digital outs, but at the 6514 happens nothing!
    Can someone help me???

    When i set the switches in the passthrough mode (S6 up, S5 down, S4 down, S1 rigth, s2 right, S3 right) all pins passthrough (Pin1 = Pin1...Pin100=Pin100)
    Is that the only way to get all the 32 in/out Ports of the 6514 to the board????
    I testet sometimes: for example GND to Pin 96 and 5V+ to Pin 97. Then i measure on Pin 95.
    When i put the line 7 of port 7 to low i measure 2Volt and at high i measure 5Volt. That seems to be a bit correctly. 
    But should there not be 0V when i set it on LOW???? Or where from could that 2V be?
    I dont know, what to do...
    can someone help me??? or just give me some info?

  • "connecting a load cell to scb-100"

    I have an scb-100 and want to know if it is possible to connect a load cell to it and if so, how.

    It is probably possible, but you have to have some additional circuitry in order to use the load cell. Typically, load cells are comprised of strain gauges which require some kind of Wheatstone bridge completion. Additionally, most strain gauges need excitation. If you can provide the bridge completion and excitation, then you could simply read the output of the strain gauge by connecting the output + and - to your SCB-100. However, setting up this external circuitry can be a little complicated. So, the recommended setup is to use some signal conditioning. National Instruments provides a couple of options regarding signal conditioning for load cells. Below is a link to a tutorial that discusses how to measure a load cell and what hardware is recommended for

  • KT6 Delta Temperature Sensors

    Hopefully an easy question - where are the temperature sensors located on the KT6 Delta FISR board?
    Many people have posted over high temperatures and the difference between CoreCentre readings, BIOS readings and other measurements.  It is also clear that the XP CPU has an on die temperature sensor which I would expect to give higher readings than a sensor placed below the CPU.  Some MBs can read this - is the KT6 Delta one of these?
    MBM5 lists just two working sensors (WinBond 1 and 2) and the first seems to be the CPU and the second the MB.  MBProbe also lists just two sensors called W837HF:1 and 2 and again these appear to be the MB and CPU.  CoreCentre also list just two sensors called CPU and System.
    When I first installed this board and an XP2600+ the temperatures were quite a bit higher than I was used to with my old K7T and 1.2 Athon but acceptable at 40C for the MB and 53C for the CPU at idle.  Since then I have done the BIOS tweak (about 10C drop), installed CPUIdle (another couple of degrees) and added a fan to blow over the North Bridge heat sink.  As I type this (almost idle readings) I have MB at 27C and CPU at 40C with a room temperature of 21C.  CoreCentre gives the same MB reading but a CPU reading of 44C.  Under torture tests the CPU temperature will rise by about 7C.  I have tweaked things a bit to take advantage of 400 MHz RAM and am running the CPU at 11 x 200 with a Vcore voltage of 1.6.  Everything is rock stable.
    Obviously I do not have a problem (even using a Q-Tec 550 and 4 HDs!) but I would like to know if the MB sensor is closer to the North Bridge than on earlier MSI boards, whether WinBond1 reads from the CPU die or from under the CPU and whether CoreCentre uses the same sensors as MBM5, MBProde and BIOS as these all read the same.
    I have search this forum and others but no joy - can any help?

    does any one have any idea where on this board are the 3 Temperature sensors located?
    some sources sugest that 1 is located onboard the Southbridge but the remaining 2 are a mystery

    it can't be a ram configuration issue.. because the exact same configuration worked flawlessly for almost a year..
    i tested the volts on the PSU with a volt meter and the 5v and 12v rails measure very close to spec, within 5%
    i basically took one of the molex connectors and plugged my  volt meter leads into the appropriate colors (black and yellow, black and red). and i just let it sit while i turned on my computer and did stuff..
    is there a better way to test it? if the psu wasnt giving enough power i would expect playing a game or 3dmark or some sort of load would cause the system to crash relatively quickly, and not randomly while the computer is idling and such

    When I want to open an online PDF document, all I get is a tiny black square box in the upper left corner. Please can someone help me make this work?  I have installed and reinstalled Adobe Reader XI.  I have "accepted" the license agreement in Eula.

    The OS 10.6 Character Viewer has a View menu from which one can select the Glyph mode then select a font from the Font menu. How can I get Lion's CV to display my Unicode font and allow me to insert its characters into documents?
