Clarification of Mitigating Alerts and Notifications

I am investigating mitigating controls in 5.2 and have a query regarding the difference between 'generate action log' and 'alert notifications'. In the configuration tab when maintaining background jobs for mit controls there are the above 2 options. None of the supporting documents clearly explain the difference between these. They're obviously both emails.  I expect one advises that mitigating control is due to be executed (alert notificiation).  That leaves 'generate action log' which seems to have something to do with capturing transactional data from R3.  Can anybody clarify how these are used?
Many thanks in advance

Hi
Firstly thank you to Tavi, Frank and Hersh.  I really appreciate your speedy responses and it has shone light on this topic for me.
I'd like to summarise to ensure I have clearly understood.  The mitigating controls, users, controllers and approvers are maintained in the 'Mitigation' tab.
The alerts are emails and relate to the execution of the defined mitigating controls (reports).  If the controls are not executed in defined period an alert will be sent to the monitor to remind them or alert them that this activity is to be performed.  The Monitor is the person assigned to run these controls reports in specified period.
The notification logs read from R3 logs and will look specifically for mitigated users.  It will check to see if they run a combination of the mitigated transactions e.g. create vendor, raise invoice.  If this combination of transactions occur a log will generate with relevant details.   My question here is 'are notification logs sent my e mail and who is person to receive them, is it the monitor?'    If not, where are they to be found.  Is this a resource hungry activity and is it recommended.
Is the Monitor the only role relating to above.
Thanks so much in advance.

    Dear Grainne,
    You are most welcome!!
Well, you are all corect for your understanding and summarizations.
Regarding your question - 'are notification logs sent my e mail and who is person to receive them, is it the monitor?' If not, where are they to be found. Is this a resource hungry activity and is it recommended?"
    1. Yes, the notification would be sent to monitor who would be the person to say whether the User ID being Mitigated has done something wrong or is perfect as per the business governance. The answer to whether this this can be a resource hungry activity depends on the number of mitigated users and the resource requirement would be directly proportional to the number of mitigation Controls you have set up, which can be further drilled down to the number of mitigated or conflivting transactions used by the User and the frequesncy of the same.
    2. The answer to whether it is recommended or not is YES for sure, or else there is no purpose for setting up risks analysis and monitoring.

    Hersh.

  • WP8 email alerts and notifications

    Hi,
I have a Windows Phone 8.  The default email app on the phone does not support specific email alerts or notifications.  Do you know if there is a email app for company email that will support specific email alerts.  Now when I am talking about
specific email alerts, is when a specific email comes in to your inbox from a specific email address it will alert you with a ding or sound or tone, so far I am not seeing this on the Windows Phone.  Does anybody know if this is capable on the Windows
    Phone?
    Thank You,
    Frank

Did you ever get this resolved?  I am still getting emails sent to an old email address.  I do get emails to my current address, but they tell me that the old address is "gone", even though I still get the alerts.
    What a pain.

  • Alert and notification question

We are running LMS 3.1. Notification services are configured under DFM. We do receive alerts with event occurance, but don't get notification when device come back to normal state per event code. Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mohammad.

This probably has to do with how you have configured your notification group.  Make sure you have both active and cleared checked as well as both critical and informational.  The informational severity is required because cleared events/alerts are informational even though the event/alert they describe may have been critical.

  • Azure Monitoring Alerts and Notifications email

When we receive an alert from Azure monitoring it comes from the email address "[email protected]". The domain mail.windowsazure.com is not valid and our mail firewall blocks these messages due to this. Does anyone know if
it is possible to customize the "From" address for these monitoring notices? Perhaps Microsoft Azure guys will create a valid domain for this.......?

    Thanks for your posting!
For this issue, it seems that changing the setting of mail server is related to Exchange Server or office outlook issue.
I am not sure which type of mail server you used, but if you use Exchange server, you can Customize junk e-mail protection. Please see this page:

  • How can I disable emails, alerts, and notifications sent from iCals which I subscribe to?

My wife subscribes to one of my iCal and uses it to know when I have class or am indisposed. I use my school calendar very heavily especially the To dos. The problem occurs when she recieves hundreds of emails generated from my constant updating of my calendar and To dos. We want her to recieve updates but not of the To Dos. How can she opt out of the To do list, the emails, and the constant updating; once daily would be enough.

    What phone?
You would need to disable data on the phone itself.  You wouldn't do it online on your account.
Note also that text messages do not count toward your data allowance.

  • Alert or notification mail to the responsible employee as Follow up

    Hi Experts,
I need a small clarification.Agents should be able to send an alert or notification maito the responsible employee/group of a ticket in case of a customer follow-up. Is there any standard functinality is supports this requirment? Or is it needs development?
    Thanks
    Chand

    Hi,
Still you can use Action profile for your scenario as you can set action condition (can be any user status: Informed to Person Responsible) when to trigger notification mail to responsible person. The moment customer informs IC agent about issue IC agent will update User status and save the transaction it will send notification mail to responsible person.
    Cheers,
    Dipesh.

  • System monitoring - alert email notification

    Hello Sapers,
I already set up system monitoring in our Solution Manager but i would like to receive mail if any alert occur.  Unfortunatelly I did not find any way how to do it through Solution Manager. I guess there must be something like edit -> Automatic email transmission where I set up sending Earlywatch and SL reports to my mailbox, but how to set up alert email notification?
I also tried another way - setting up CEN (in our sollution manager) in RZ20, there i created monitor where i have desired alerts from all remote systems configured in SMSY (i have not used sapccm4x or any other ccms agent), also tried autoreaction method on local and it is working fine (SCOT is set up) but when i tried create and assign central autoreaction method (sapnote 429265) during assigning i receive error "no ccms agent avalable for system" and it is not working. Do I really need configure SAPCCM4X on all remote systems when i want to use central autoreaction? I dont feel very confortable with this solution. I think there must be some other smarter way (maybe in solution manager).
We also tried to connect our RZ20 monitor set to nagios (used in our company to monitor non sap servers and email notification), but we are not able to compile the ccms nagios plugin uder 64bit. AIX 5.3.
I also heard little bit about ALM (Alert management) but dont know anything about forwarding alerts from RZ20 to ALM and transmitting email from there. But I think this sollution would be the most difficult from all mentioned above.
Thank you very much for any help

    Josef,
Somewhat chasing the point here - when you have the Solman and you look in your CCMS and you can see the other systems - it is all RFC data and not actually on the Solution Manager (the only local MTE's are those tha belong to the Solution Manager).  For the Solution Manager to Centrally Auto-React to threasholds (act as the CEN System), the information needs to be passed to the Central System through the agents.
If you want to do email threasholds on your remote systems, you can configure it on each of the systems individually without agents as this is a CCMS Function that any SAP System can do - but this is not Central Auto-Reaction.  This is just actions taken on individual systems based on local MTE's.
To Centrally Auto-React - you have to add the agents so the information is passed to the CEN to react on.
I hope that this has clarified the situation a bit more.  If this answers your question, please set this thread to answered.

  • BPM: How to Raise Alert and Restart together ?

The requirement is like this.My Integration Process receives a message, performs a 1:N split and undergoes further processing using Transformation steps. I want to ensure the following in case any one of the Transfofrmation fails(Because of some coding error in the step):
    1. Raise an Alert
    2. Should be able to restart the Process again from the
failed step once the Transformation code is fixed.
    3. To raise an Alert for any file adapter level errors,
and to restart the processing of the message once the
       file adpter error is resolved
I have tried the following approaches, but it does not help me achieve all of the above condition.
I have put the Transformation step in a Block and introduced an exception branch with one control step which raises an Alert.
Issue: This will raise an alert when the step fails, but it ends the BPM with a Processed status and hence I will not be able to restart the BPM.
So I put another Control step immediately following the Alert step which raises an exception. However I have not handled this exception. Hence when a step fails, I am able to raise an alert as well as the BPM gets errored out.
Issue : However, now when I restart the process in swf_xi_swpr, The process restarts with the Control step which was used to throw exception. It does not restart with the Failed mapping step.
To raise Alerts for Adpter level errors which might occur before the message comes to BPM, I have defined alert category and rule in runtime workbench. However, the Alerts are not triggered when the file adapter fails.
Please share any ideas on how to achieve all the 3
    requirements together.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Joachim!
I was facing a very similar problem in my BPM modelling.
Is there really no other chance than to loop (and maybe wait some time) over the critical (e.g. networking down, ...) parts of the BPM to have some active notification via alerts AND a possibility for retry?
In my opinion this would a very inflexible way of doing error-handling stuff - if so - is it about to change in the upcoming releases?
Currently I guess I can have:
    a) either ALERTING (by catching exception and raise alert)
    OR
    b) convenient retry mechansisms via "SWF_XI_SWPR" (by not catching exceptions at all and let the relevant block become "errorenous") ...
    Any other suggestions ...?
    Many Thanks,
    Andy

It doesn't address what I needed help with
I am in Malaysia with Telstra Long Life so I can receive my banking secure code when necessary from St George. However, it never arrives in time, if at all. So basically the service is useless for me and I have wasted $80. What can be going wrong and how can i ensure I receive a bank secure code sms in time that I can use it before the banking website cuts it off?
I also cannot see on the My account page where I can get the online help. I think this should always be in the bottom corner of the page as I have spent ages looking for it - depending where you are on Telstra's site, sometimes it is there and sometimes not. VERY confusing.
