Class or Method to Return OracleDataReader

I'm using a neat little method which I can call from anywhere to do an ExcuteScalar and return the value using an Oracle database table as the source. So now I'd like to do a similar thing but instead of returning a single value I'd like to return the
entire Reader.Read() object. 

Yes, please excuse my terminology here. I'd like to call a method to do the queries rather than build a bunch of them throughout the class. So here's a simple one I came up with to handle just getting a single value from the tables:

And so far this works great but it only returns a single value. Now to come up with one which will return the entire database if necessary, or at the minimum about 1000-2000 records. Once I have the dataset I will filter what's needed from it. I take it
would be something like darnold924 offered and just return the contents of the Reader object. I found something in that link which I can modify for this. Thanks everyone.

    looks almost right. The problem is that your method name AddressBookEntry does not match the name of your class AddressBook and therefore is not a constructor.
    Furthermore, you probably need to make a distinction between a single entry into the address book which consists of a single name and a single address, (which is just what you have done) and an address book itself which is probably a list of AddressBookEntries
    So for your code I would change the class that you called "AddressBook" to "AddressBookEntry" and have a third class that represents the collection of AddressBookEntries.
    Now to be honest, I don't know why you keep the name split apart from the street address portion of the address. I would be more inclined to keep the name as a field of the address itself, but it's your code, you carve it up the way you like.

  • Calling a method that returns an object Array

    Hello.
    During a JNICALL , I wish to call a method which returns an object array.
    ie my java class has a method of the form

    Is there an equivalent to (env)->CallObjectMethod(...
    which returns a jobjectArray instead of a jobject, and if not could somebody suggest a way around this.

    I believe an array oj jobjects is also a jobject. You can then cast it to another class.

  • Calling a class's method from another class

    Hi, i would like to know if it's possible to call a Class's method and get it's return from another Class. This first Class doesn't extend the second. I've got a Choice on this first class and depending on what is selected, i want to draw a image on the second class witch is a Panel extended. I put the control "if" on the paint() method of the second class witch is called from the first by the repaint() (first_class.repaint()) on itemStateChanged(). Thankx 4 your help.   • Methods that return more than one object.

    Hello everyone,
    I don't know if this has ever been proposed or if there's an actual solution to this in any programming language. I just think it would be very interesting and would like to see it someday.
    This is the thing: why isn't it possible for a method to return more than one object. They can receive as many parameters as wanted (I don't know if there's a limit), but they can return only 1 object. So, if you need to return more than one, you have to use an auxiliary class...

    }So if you want to get the name of somebody you have to do this, assuming "person" is an instance of the object Person:

    String lastName = person.getLastName();Anyway, what if we were able to have just one method that would return both. My idea is as follows:

    Imagine for example that you were trying to get information from a database with a very complex query. If you only need to return 1 column you have no problem, since your object can be an array of Strings (or whatever type is necessary). But if you need to retrieve all columns, you have three options:
    - Create 1 method per column --> Not so good idea since you're duplicating code (the query).
    - Create and auxiliary object to store the information --> Maybe you won't ever use that class again. So, too much code.
    - Concatenate the results and then parse them where you get them. --> Too much work.
    What do you think of my idea? Very simple, very straight-forward.
    I think it should be native to the language and Java seems like a great option to implement it in the future.

    It's pretty simple. In OO, a method should do one thing. If that thing is to produce an object that contains multiple values as part of its state, and that object makes sense as an entity in its own right in the problem domain--as opposed to just being a way to wrap up multiple values that the programmer finds it convenient to return together--then great, define the class as such and return an instance. But if you're returning multiple values that have nothing to do with each other outside of the fact that it's convenient to return them together, then your method is probably doing too much and should be refactored.
    As for the "if it increases productivity, why not add it?" argument, there are lots of things that would "increase productivity" or have some benefit or other, but it's not worth having them in the language because the value they add is so small as to no be worth the increase in complexity, risk, etc. MI of implementation is one great example of something that a lot of people want because it's convenient, but that has real, valid utility only in very rare cases. This feature is another one--at least in the domain that Java is targetting, AFAICT.

  • Web Service Method that returns an ArrayList

    I have to create a web service method that returns an ArrayList, but it's not working. My problem is:
    With the "@XmlSeeAlso" annotation, my client prints the result, but the ArryaList is not from java.util, it's from org.me.calculator so I can't use it.
    If I remove this annotation, I get no result, with this error message on Tomcat 6:
    [javax.xml.bind.JAXBException: class java.util.ArrayList nor any of its super class is known to this context.]

    I forgot to say that, when I try to return an ArrayList of an object, for example, ClassA, which is on the package org.me.classes, on my Server App, the ArrayList is returned, but the objects are from type org.me.calculator.ClassA. It should be from org.me.classes.ClassA, right?
    This package also exists on my client App, to use the object, but as the returned type is from another package, I can't even cast it. I tried some annotations @Xml... but it failed.

    If you have Java skills it is advantage for you.
    There are Local classes as well as Global Classes.
    Local classes we can work in SE38 straight away.
    But mostly it is better to use the Global classes.
    Global Classes or Interfaces are to be created in SE24.
    SAP already given some predefined classes and Interfaces.
    This OOPS concepts very useful for writing BADI's also.
    So first create a class in SE 24.

    Passing several fields to various classes and methods?
    Hi there.
    I have an application that allows a user to define a configuration and save it.
    The user can edit an existing configuration, add a new one, or delete an existing one.
    Once a configuration is selected the user then starts an application that relies on the selected configuration data. Each configuration holds around 60 fields.
    The configuration information is mixed between integers and strings. Around 25 are hidden from the user, and 35 can be modified by the user. The number of fields is not a fixed amount. For example the configuration contains an email-to list and the list for one configuration can have 1 address, and for another could have 10 addresses.
    I have decided to redesign using the Model View Controller concept. I am creating the model to hold the configuration information. I am trying to decide if I should have single get and set methods for each field or if I should create some kind of Object that holds all of one configuration and pass this back.
    The configuration that is selected does not really require the fields to be sorted in any particular order.
    What would you suggest is a good structure to use to pass the configuration information around?
    I have been using the Properties class with an .ini file that can be read and updated.
    Is this efficient? Doesn�t this impact the speed of processing if I have to read a file every time I want to determine what a particular configuration field is?
    Could I just create a class that reads the profile, stores the configuration information for one specific selected config, and then passes the class back to the calling procedure. This would consolidate all the file reading into one class and after that it is held in memory.
    Would it be better to read the configuration information into a collection of some sort , or a vector and pass this back to calling routine?

    I have been provided a wsdl file I need to find out how do I access classes and methods defined in a wsdl file directly instead of doing a wsdl2java...

    Several comments :
    1- is there any reason to have blank chars inserted after the path ? Seems that you already have a problem there. If possible, try to solve the problem at the source
    2- the end of line char is usually CR (Carriage Return, aka ASCII char 13 = $0D = Control-D). But LF (Line Feed = 10 = $0A = control-A) is also used (platform dependent). In LV, you can use the "Concatenate strings" function to add/insert control chars (found in the String Control Palette). However, this will not solve your problem of unwanted added blank chars at the end of your string.
    3- you can use the Trim white space.vi (in the "Additionnal string functions" sub-palette) to remove ALL the spaces in your string
    4- you can build your own "end space remover" function. :
    reverse the string, wire to a "Match pattern" function, use " +" (space + "+") to search for any number of spaces, reverse again the "after substring".
    5- there is no point 5 :-)

    objects? Isnt this a Factory Pattern ?
    What is the real advantage of using methods to return objects
    rather than using public constructors to create objects ?

    I think there were two questions. The first (why
    static) is well answered but I hope somebody can
    answer the general question - why whatever =
    createSomething(); as opposed to whatever
    = new Something(); - because inquiring minds
    want to know.I thought I answered that question. Perhaps I need to be more specific.
    For the Singleton pattern, you don't want a new instance (except possibly the first time, if you're using lazy instantiation).
    For the Factory pattern, you might not always want an instance of the actual class containing the static methods, so new won't work.
    If, on the other hand, neither of the above holds, there is no reason not to use new (unless, of course, anyone can come up with another use of static creators).

    How to get the internal table values of ALV Tree List in classes.
    My requirement is i need to store the output values in Ztable of a SAP Transaction of CK86_99.
    for this, i copied the SAP Standard Transaction into Z tcode and i am trying to poplulate the output display into Ztable. But this standard tcode CK86_99 is using the classes of ALV tree list to display output.
    CL_STRUCTURE_EXPLOSION_TREE -- Class
    CONSTRUCTOR - method
    Finally in the above mentioned method, i am able to see the output values of ALV tree list in the internal table of mt_output_table.
    But these are SAP Standard Class and method.
    My doubt is, How to get these internal table values in my Zprogram.
    is there any user exit or badi can we use in the method of class???? Actually my system is 4.6C
    Please suggest me on this problem.

    First your getInstance() method returns 'singleton' which you havent declared/init anywhere.
    your getAll() method needs to be static if you need to call it the way you are doing.
    In your getAll() method u are passing a parameter called patientRecord ... where have you declared/init it.
    i think you have to do something like this ... if i have understood you correctly.

  • Problem calling AS3 class's methods from Flex Project

    Sorry if this is a stupid question, but after 2 days of Web
    searching and 2 books give up; I am a Java and c# programmer and am
    having problems calling AS3 classes (in packages) from Flex Builder
    2 Flex Projects; the AS3 classes work great as Flex Builder "AS3
    Projects", but when I try to use the classes in a Flex Builder
    "Flex Project" I am able to see and set their properties, but
    cannot see (through "code completion") their methods (unless the
    class extends another AS3 class; and in that case I can see the
    base class's methods). Here is the code:

    Thanks, I have it working; I was not assigning an "ID" to the
    "MXML use of the class" (whatever the formal name for that is;
    like: <asTheText:CheckWord id="MyText" strData="The Data" />
    ) and then I was not referencing that ID in what I am refering to
    as calling methods for the Class; like:

    Also, I did some tests on this, and I am shocked that
    apparently neither of these two "uses"(?) of a custom AS3 class
