Class properties of decedent class access scope error

There seems to be what I consider a bug in the implementation of LV 2010 property nodes. If parent has a property folder with read and write accessors and child has a property folder overriding only one of the accessors, then the non-overridden property becomes unaccessible to the child type but is accessible when the child class is casted to the parent type using to more generic node.
The expected behavior would be that all parent properties would be accessible from the child type regardless if the child overrides the none, one or both of the accessor methods. If officially considered as a bug, please provide a CAR number.

Tomi,
Thank you for the feedback you've supplied to us. We really appreciate that you took the time to document the problem so thoroughly. I did have this issue discussed and it was determined that this was unexpected behavior. I have filed a CAR (#279670) to R&D for further investigation.

  • Access class' properties (in _root) from movieclip timeline?

    I'm trying to follow the advice "class properties are better
    then _global variables", but how could I access a class' properties
    (imported in the main timeline) from a movie Clip timeline?
    this code in the main timeline works (and trace the value of
    lang):
    import scripts.StartupSettings
    trace (StartupSettings.lang);
    but if I try to access the lang property from a movie clip
    timeline, with the same:
    trace (StartupSettings.lang);
    I get traced "undefined".
    The only workaround I have found is to import again the class
    inside the clip, but I would like to avoid it in order to keep
    dimensions small.
    Any idea? thanks

    The import statement doesn't really import anything. It's
    used to not have to call a method using the fully qualified class
    name. So, don't worry about 'dimensions'. And, the import statement
    is only 'valid' on the frame it is defined on. On another frame,
    you have to use the import statement again.

  • "Bad Class Access Flags" error

    Hi guyz,
    I am using JBuilder 7 SE and Mobile Set 3 to run my application. For testing I use the default color phone emulator.But when I ran the access the application, I encountered "Bad Class Access Flags" error. Could you please offer some suggestion to overcome this.
    With regards,
    Amin

    Hi Amin:
    I guess there must be more than one interface class
    in your midlet program,please using "abstract interface"
    instead of "interface"....
    ex.
    abstract interface MyInterface {

  • Access properties of the class passed to a thread

    Hi You all,
    I have the following code:
    package com.services;
    import java.util.*;
    public class Timer implements Runnable
         //                         CLASS OBJECTS
         private int interval;
         private volatile int clockFlag = 0;
         //                              CONSTRUCTOR
         public Timer()
         public void stop()
              this.interval = 0;
         public void setInterval(int pInterval)
              this.interval = pInterval + 100000000;
         public void run()
              while(this.interval != 0)
                   if(this.clockFlag == this.interval)
                        System.out.println("clockFlag");
                        this.clockFlag = 0;
                   this.clockFlag ++;
    Timer objTimer = new Timer();
    objTimer.setInterval(5);
    Thread objThread = new Thread(objTimer);
    objThread.start();So if I want to use the run method of the Timer class what should I do?
    Is there any method in the thread that alows me to call any method of the class passed to it?
    Thanks,
    MeTitus

    That's usually a bad design choice.why?You should extend when you actually want to add some new functionality to a class, and the OP doesn't want to create a new type of thread. He just want to execute something in a new thread.

    For those who would have the same problem, here is how I could eventually fix it.
    Since the Flex Test Drive is sometimes out of sync with flash builder 4, I recreated a project using other help pages on Adobe site :
    Entry point :
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Flex/4.0/AccessingData/WSbde04e3d3e6474c4-668f02f4120d422cf08- 7ffd.html
    As suggested, I used the New Project wizard to create a new project, with :
    Application server type : J2EE
    Check the radio button "Use remote object access service : BlazeDS"
    Then, as indicated in following pages (section "Accessing BlazeDS")... :
    file:///C:/Mes%20documents%20C/Commun/Developpement/Documentation/HT-Tracks/AccessingData/ help.adobe.com/en_US/Flex/4.0/AccessingData/WSbde04e3d3e6474c4-668f02f4120d422cf08-7ffe.ht ml#WSbde04e3d3e6474c4-19a3f0e0122be55e1b7-8000
    ...I selected the "Data / Connect to Data/Services..." menu option, which started the Data/service connection wizard.
    There, I selected a BlazeDS (and not Web Services) service type, and everything went fine.
    Suggestion to adobe staff : maybe it would be useful to update the Flex Test Drive to reflect Flash Builder 4 ?
    Very nice product anyway, so far, congratulations...
    Rgds
    Marc.

  • How to access class variables in anonymous class??.

    I have a boolean class level variable. Fom a button action , this boolean will set to true and then it used in anonymous class. In anonymous class, I am getting default value instead of true. Could u anyone help in this plzzz.

    first of all, you don't want parent because that is something that Containers use to remember their containment hierarchy. you are thinking of super which is also incorrect, because that has to do with inheritance.
    the problem here is a scoping problem. you generally would use final if you were accessing variables in an anonymous class that are in the local scope. in this case, you just need to create some test code and play with it. snip the code below and play with it. it shows both the given examples and some additional ways to change/display class variables.
    good luck, hackerx
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    public class Foo extends JPanel
         private boolean the_b = true;
         public static void main(String[] args)
              Foo f = new Foo();
              JFrame frame = new JFrame();
              frame.getContentPane().add(f);
              frame.pack();
              frame.show();
         public Foo()
              // get your button
              JButton b = new JButton("Not!");
              b.addActionListener(new ActionListener()
                   public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae)
                        // *** uncomment these to play around ***
                        // Foo.this.the_b = false; // this will work, but unnecessary
                        // the_b = false; // this works fine too
                        notFoo();
              this.add(b);
              // something to show the value that accesses a class variable
              // using an inner class instead of final nonsense
              DisplayThread t = new DisplayThread();
              t.start();
         private void notFoo()
              the_b = !the_b;
         class DisplayThread extends Thread
              public void run()
                   while(true)
                        System.err.println("boolean value: " + the_b);
                        try {
                        sleep(1000);
                        } catch(InterruptedException ie) {}

  • Custom class loader and local class accessing local variable

    I have written my own class loader to solve a specific problem. It
    seemed to work very well, but then I started noticing strange errors in
    the log output. Here is an example. Some of the names are in Norwegian,
    but they are not important to this discussion. JavaNotis.Oppstart is the
    name of my class loader class.
    java.lang.ClassFormatError: JavaNotis/SendMeldingDialog$1 (Illegal
    variable name " val$indeks")

    at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:299)
    at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:255)
    at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClassInternal(ClassLoader.java:315)
    at JavaNotis.SendMeldingDialog.init(SendMeldingDialog.java:78)
    at JavaNotis.SendMeldingDialog.<init>(SendMeldingDialog.java:54)
    at JavaNotis.Notistavle.sendMelding(Notistavle.java:542)
    at JavaNotis.Notistavle.access$900(Notistavle.java:59)
    at JavaNotis.Notistavle$27.actionPerformed(Notistavle.java:427)
    JavaNotis/SendMeldingDialog$1 is a local class in the method
    JavaNotis.SendMeldingDialog.init, and it's accessing a final local
    variable named indeks. The compiler automatically turns this into a
    variable in the inner class called val$indeks. But look at the error
    message, there is an extra space in front of the variable name.
    This error doesn't occur when I don't use my custom class loader and
    instead load the classes through the default class loader in the JVM.
    Here is my class loading code. Is there something wrong with it?
    Again some Norwegian words, but it should still be understandable I hope.
         protected Class findClass(String name) throws ClassNotFoundException
             byte[] b = loadClassData(name);
             return defineClass(name, b, 0, b.length);
         private byte[] loadClassData(String name) throws ClassNotFoundException
             ByteArrayOutputStream ut = null;
             InputStream inn = null;
             try
                 JarEntry klasse = arkiv.getJarEntry(name.replace('.', '/')
    + ".class");
                 if (klasse == null)
                    throw new ClassNotFoundException("Finner ikke klassen "
    + NOTISKLASSE);
                 inn = arkiv.getInputStream(klasse);
                 ut = new ByteArrayOutputStream(inn.available());
                 byte[] kode = new byte[4096];
                 int antall = inn.read(kode);
                 while (antall > 0)
                     ut.write(kode, 0, antall);
                     antall = inn.read(kode);
                 return ut.toByteArray();
             catch (IOException ioe)
                 throw new RuntimeException(ioe.getMessage());
             finally
                 try
                    if (inn != null)
                       inn.close();
                    if (ut != null)
                       ut.close();
                 catch (IOException ioe)
         }I hope somebody can help. :-)
    Regards,
    Knut Stre

    I'm not quite sure how Java handles local classes defined within a method, but from this example it seems as if the local class isn't loaded until it is actually needed, that is when the method is called, which seems like a good thing to me.
    The parent class is already loaded as you can see. It is the loading of the inner class that fails.
    But maybe there is something I've forgotten in my loading code? I know in the "early days" you had to do a lot more to load a class, but I think all that is taken care of by the superclass of my classloader now. All I have to do is provide the raw data of the class. Isn't it so?

  • Cannot resolve symbol error when compiling a class that calls another class

    I've read all the other messages that include "cannot resolve symbol", but no luck. I've got a small app - 3 classes all in the same package. BlackjackDAO and Player compile OK, but BlackjackServlet throws the "cannot resolve symbol" (please see pertinent code below)...
    I've tried lots: ant and javac compiling, upgrading my version of tomcat, upgrading my version of jdk/jre, making sure my servlet.jar is being seen by the compiler (at least as far as I can see from the -verbose feedback)...any help would be GREAT! Thanks in advance...
    classes: BlackjackServlet, BlackjackDAO, Player
    package: myblackjackpackage
    tomcat version: 4.1.1.8
    jdk version: j2sdk 1.4.0
    ant version: 1.4.1
    I get the same error message from Ant and Javac...

  • Controlling MovieClip properties from a Class that it's linked to

    Hi all,
    I have a Moveclip with a Dynamic text field instance name of
    "optionName". The movie clip is linked to my custom Class "Toggle".
    Is there a way for me to access "optionName" from my class?
    Basically I am getting this error:
    Thanks.

    Thanks, much appreciated.

  • Class properties change

    Service pack changed the super class properties. Issue is with the subclasses in it which is raising error. I have been doing some research. there are two option either change the class properties manually or raise OSS message. Changing the class properties manually might create complications? I need some opinon

    Hello
    The properties of the class can change in Support Packages due to many reasons, and sometimes they have some logic behind that can go beyond a simple flag.
    My advice is asking SAP to modify the class or, at least, explain why the properties have been changed.

  • How to access a method of a class which just known class name as String

    Hi,
    Now I have several class and I want to access the method of these class. But what I have is a String which contain the complete name of the class.
    For example, I have two class name class1and class2, there are method getValue in each class. Now I have a String containing one class name of these two class. I want to access the method and get the return value.
    How could I do?
    With Class.forName().newInstance I can get a Object. but it doesn't help to access and execute the method I want .
    Could anybody help me?
    Thanks

    Or, if Class1 and Class2 have a common parent class or interface (and they should if you're handling them the same way in the same codepath)...Class c = Class.forName("ClassName");
    Object o = c.newInstance(); // assumes there's a public no-arg constructor
    ParentClassOrInterface pcoi = (ParentClassOrInterface)o;
    Something result = pcoi.someMethod(); Or, if you're on 5.0, I think generics let you do it this way: Class<ParentClassOrInterface> c = Class.forName("ClassName");
    // or maybe
    Class<C extends ParentClassOrInterface> c = Class.forName("ClassName");
    ParentClassOrInterface pcoi = c.newInstance();
    Something result = pcoi.someMethod();

  • What class should be imported to resolve the error

    Dear all,
    would you please tell me that what class should i import to resolve the error for PreparedStatement.
    plz mention the import statement
    Error(437,13): class PreparedStatement not found in class oracle.apps.ak.cacheoffice.server.CacheOfficeAMImpl

    import java.sql.PreparedStatement;

  • Compiling error with a class that references another class

    Hello,
    I have two Java-Classes in two files in the same folder. Both are in the same package. The class StatusZwo should reference the function ValueX of the class Status.
    The class Status has a function which returns the boolean value true. If compile the file Status.java there is no error, but if I
    compile the file StatusZwo.java there comes the error message:
    D:\Test\Test>javac StatusZwo.java
    StatusZwo.java:12: cannot resolve symbol
    symbol : variable Status
    location: class Test.StatusZwo
    System.out.printLn(Status.ValueX);
    StatusZwo.java
    package Test;
    import Test.*;
    public class StatusZwo{
    public static void main (String arguments[]) {
    System.out.printLn(Status.ValueX);
    Status.java:
    package Test;
    public class Status{
    public static boolean ValueX() {
    return true;
    What is the problem?
    Thank you Flo

    Next time please use [code] and [/code] tags around any code.
    There are two issues on one particular line;
    [code]System.out.printLn(Status.ValueX);[/code]
    should be
    [code]System.out.println(Status.ValueX());[/code]

  • Accessing Enclosing Class Members From Inner Class Subclass

    I have the following scenario that I cannot get to work. Notice the comments in B.doWork() for the problem code. In B.doWork(), how do I access m_strA?
    * A.java
    * Created on July 5, 2002, 2:20 PM
    package Projects.InnerTrouble.Files;
    public class A {
         public abstract class InnerA {
              public abstract void doWork ();
         public String m_strA;
         /** Creates new A */
         public A ()
                   new InnerA() {
                             public void doWork ()
                                       System.out.println("A$InnerA$1's doWork() called!");
                                       m_strA = "Annonymous subclass of InnerA's doWork did this";
                        }.doWork();
         * @param args the command line arguments
         public static void main (String args[])
                   A oTemp = new A();
                   System.out.println(oTemp.m_strA);
                   B.getB(oTemp).doWork();
                   System.out.println(oTemp.m_strA);
    class B extends A.InnerA {
         public B (A a)
                   a.super();
         public void doWork ()
                   System.out.println("B's doWork() called!");
                   // How do I access m_strA within B's doWork() method?  The following is what I would expect to be the answer, but it does not compile
                   // A.this.m_strA = "B's doWork did this";
         private static A.InnerA sm_oInnerA;
         public static A.InnerA getB (A a)
                   if (sm_oInnerA == null)
                        sm_oInnerA = new B(a);
                   return (sm_oInnerA);

    The whole point is that B is not an inner class of A
    so it does not have access to A's member variables.
    Eventhough B extends an inner class of A, that does
    not make B an inner class of A. That is in the JLS,
    but not so elegantly as I have put it, hehe.
    If B were an innerclass of InnerA, then it would
    qualify to access A's member variables.OK, I think that you are finally getting through to my thick skull on this one. Let me restate and get your check-off on my understanding of the situation.
    The only classes with access to A's this reference are A and inner classes of A that are found within the definition of A. So, despite the fact that A and B are in the same package (and B should have access to A's non-private members because B and A are in the same package), and despite the fact that we would normally state that B "is a" InnerA (which is an inner class of A and would have access to a reference to the A.this reference), B is not allowed access to A.this (because B "is not really a" InnerA in the same way that the anonymous implementation of InnerA "is a" InnerA). However, nothing would prevent me from giving B access to a reference of the enclosing A as long as it was done via a method of InnerA, and as long as the implementation of that method is contained in A's implementation.
    Does this "access" rule realy make sense? Are you aware of the justification for this rule? Or is the justification stated in the JLS? I would think that the compiler ought to be able to figure this kind of thing out and allow it. It seems to me the fact that I defined B in the way that I did, and the fact that B "is a" InnerA, implies that I desired a fairly tight relationship to A. In fact, I desired the exact relationship that exists for the anonymous implementation of InnerA.
    The following is a modified version of my original example that runs as I originally wanted it to, but works around the access rules discussed on this forum thread:
    * A.java
    * Created on July 5, 2002, 2:20 PM
    package Projects.InnerTrouble.Files;
    public class A {
         public abstract class InnerA {
              public abstract void doWork ();
              /** added to allow implementors of InnerA that are not enclosed in A's class definition to have access to the enclosing class */
              public A myEnclosingInstance ()
                        return (A.this);
         public String m_strA;
         /** Creates new A */
         public A ()
                   new InnerA() {
                             public void doWork ()
                                       System.out.println("A$InnerA$1's doWork() called!");
                                       m_strA = "Annonymous subclass of InnerA's doWork did this";
                        }.doWork();
         * @param args the command line arguments
         public static void main (String args[])
                   A oTemp = new A();
                   System.out.println(oTemp.m_strA);
                   B.getB(oTemp).doWork();
                   System.out.println(oTemp.m_strA);
    class B extends A.InnerA {
         public B (A a)
                   a.super();
         public void doWork ()
                   System.out.println("B's doWork() called!");
                   // The following is what I would expect to be the answer, but it does not compile
                   // A.this.m_strA = "B's doWork did this";
                   // added myEnclosingInstance() to get functionality desired above
                   myEnclosingInstance().m_strA = "B's doWork did this";
         private static A.InnerA sm_oInnerA;
         public static A.InnerA getB (A a)
                   if (sm_oInnerA == null)
                        sm_oInnerA = new B(a);
                   return (sm_oInnerA);
    }
