Classpath option in HP-UNIX -- java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError

Hi ,
I am facing a problem using -classpath option in HP-UNIX.
Through Java program I am invoking java using classpath option as given below.
JAVA_HOME/bin/java -classpath "C:\NewFolder\input.jar" ....
It is working fine in Windows:
I have to do the same in HP-UNIX as well.
JAVA_HOME/bin/java -classpath "/u1/NewFolder/input.jar" ....
It failed to execute this command giving Exception NoClassDefFound . But that class is available in input.jar.
When the double quotes is removed it is working in UNIX.
But if the DIR name contains a blank space then it will fail in UNIX.
Please help.

Yes. UNIX/LINUX is not tolerant of spaces.

Well, now I'm pulling my hair out even more because I can't get it to resolve anything in jaxws-rt.jar at runtime. Note: compile-time still works FINE.
I was messing with classpaths and stuff (and the endorsed dirs option of course) and it was "working" to the extent I had posted before, but then I kept playing with it and at some point I said, this isn't working and I need to reset all this stuff back to the way it was.
... so I did that. And now it won't resolve "PolicyException:"
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/sun/xml/ws/policy/PolicyException
This doesn't mean anything to you guys I bet, but that happens when it FIRST gets inside the web service code, which references PolicyException (doesn't even use it at that point.. I'm assuming the import is screwing it up when it's in the constructor). So now it won't resolve at all. Before, it was getting past this point and telling me the "method not found" error on the next line or this same error for WSBindingProvider two lines down, when it's actually being used. AWESOME.
I downloaded the latest jaxws-rt.jar and all its dependencies, shoved that into my lib folder, and set the endorsed dir to that folder (There's kind of a web of dependencies here. jaxws-rt.jar expects all its dependencies to be in the same folder, it seems, so I don't know how it was "working" before when I just copied jaxws-rt.jar into my separate endorsed dir - but I can't move all of those files to endorsed because I need them in my project (which expects them to be in the lib folder)). What happened? It went back to my original "String" error (first error in the first post), which means it's not getting endorsed at all from that location.
What a mess.
Can someone tell me what the heck I'm supposed to do with this jar file?

I try to run a java program at the JRE. I type the following at the DOS prompt.
C:\j>java -classpath .\ldap.jar;. findAppList
I have put the ldap.jar and the findAppList.class in the current directory. Also I am sure that the ldap.jar is the only jar file required. So the setting for the classpath variable should be correct. However I still get the following error:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: ?classpath

The command-line parameter is "-cp", not "-classpath". Type java -? for list of parameters.

Very Strange java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError. Class exists in classpath

Dear Forum:
Occasionally, I run into strange java.lang.NoClassDefFoundErrors.
Here is an example: I have two different classes Class1.class and Class2.class in different jars. Both use a common class: AppContext in third jar file.
If Class1 tries to use AppContext, it works just fine. However, if Class1 instantiates Class2 and Class2 tries to use AppContext, you get the nasty java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError, in the same thread.
After a struggle and trying out different orders in class / library paths, the error goes away. However, I do want to know what is the better way to understand and resolve this issue?
Here is a sample code, for illustration purposes only:

I think I have answer to this mystery.
This was an issue with the jdeveloper, where the jar file throwing the class not found exception was loaded by a different classloader and the jar file which could find the class was loaded by another classloader.
I forgot to mention that this was a j2ee application being run by the internal j2ee server of Jdeveloper.

I can not see main class weblogic.jar file in your class path.
Under MW_HOME there is a file by name configure.cmd/sh, run it to set acl and class path. Then try to start weblogic server. U can edit the startWeblogic.sh/cmd so that every time it will execute after calling configure.sh/cmd file.

Jaxb with weblogic -- java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/xml/bind/MarshallableRootElement

I am trying to use jaxb with Weblogic 6.1. I kept both the jaxb jar file in weblogic
classpath in setEnv script. I am getting the following error, when I am trying
to use jaxb
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/xml/bind/MarshallableRootElement
I tried other options also like coping both jar file in jre/ext dir but then I
got security error.
I will appreciate if someone in this newsgroup comments or suugest some solution.

Hi, I compile my code right but when I'm executing the code I get the following error:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: jahuwaldt/tools/NeuralNets/NeuronFactory

You've got to have the WebLogic JAR that contains the necessary .class files in your CLASSPATH when you run.
Don't use a CLASSPATH environment variable; use the -classpath option when you run.

Java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError in Java Web Service Pack

I downloaded a Java WSDP 1.0.01 together with the tutorial.
When I tried to compile a simple program using the SAX package, it said it couldn't resolve such names as SAXParserFactory, etc.
Then I moved all the .jar files to the JRE/lib/ext directory (I am using jdk 1.3.1.02, a bit out of date I know). And it compiled very well.
However, when I tried to run it, I got the error message:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/xml/parsers/SAXParser
It seems that the run-time environment cannot find the correct path to load those standard classes.
Is there an easy way to specify the place for the JRE to look for those classes (.jar files)? I don't like the long command line option by the way.
Can anyone help?

You should put the jaxp-api.jar in your classpath while running your file. There are some other files also which are not required while compiling but are required when running them because the internal api uses them.

Java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError when executing JAVA code

Hy everyone,
Trying to execute some java code through forms I got this error when running my program : java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError : simple (where simple is a java class I developped).
These are the steps I followed:
1- Devopping a simple JAVA class (simple.java) and compiling in JDK 1.4 (for compatibilty with forms 10.1.2.0.2)
2- Creating the JAR file
3- Copying the JAR file in <ORACLE_HOME>\forms\java
4- Adding the adress of the JAR file in CLASSPATH (environment variable of the server)
5- Adding the adress of the JAR file in CLASSPATH (environmental file of OAS default.env)
6- Importing the JAVA class trought forms builder (program>>import java class)
7- Invoking the JAVA class via the PL/SQL packages created by forms builder
8- Running the program

In most cases, you should not have to stop and restart OC4J_BI_FORMS to pick such changes. However, since you are having problems, I would ensure that all frmweb processes have been stopped, then stop and restart OC4J_BI_FORMS and retest. If that doesn't work, you should review how you imported the java into your app. Look closely at the Importer options you used and ensure that you have not change the file name at any point. Because you are working with Java, case sensitivity is critical.
Also, where are you seeing the error message? Client java console or in a server side log? If server side, exactly which log file is reporting the problem? I would suggest you post the first 4 ro 5 lines of the error and not just the NoClassDefFound part.

I found there is leak of memory resource on the Oracle RDBMS host while this problem occurs,the database host has only 512Mb RAM.And I once configred the database to worked on Shared Mode,in this case the database has less chance of memory leak,but the above exception occurs more often.So I have to change the database to work back on Dedicate Mode!It's hard to find any tips on my Exception as mentioned above.
And I want to know the working principle of servlet on iAS.When invoke a servlet,will the servlet be cached on Memory from the first request,or it will be clear up and re-inload until next request?I just wonder if the iAS server will run out of memory,because I noticed there is a memory configure option in "jser.properties" file.And the exception I encoutered seems to occur at a critical point.

don't need to set a class path variable. You need to be careful about how you interpret this statement. The rule is, if your system doesn't have a classpath set, you'll get a default of the current directory (.). If your system does have a classpath setting, then the setting will be used.
Just because you didn't set your classpath doesn't mean someone or some other application didn't. Make sure that your system doesn't have a classpath setting. If it does, you may need to add the current directory (.) to it.

when trying to view an xsql page with the jswdk 1.0.1 web server. (I have no problems when using Web-to-go)

I have rewriten the entire bat file that creates the CLASSPATH and starts the server and things now seem to work. There must have been some error in the original bat file, that I just couldn't see.

[ ERROR ] CFG-ERR-0103 Unable to start IBM Cognos 8 service.
Execution of the external process returns an error code value of '1'.Not sure where went wrong. Already followed many suggestions are already there in different sites. But, so far no luck.
Is there any path I need to add in CLASSPATH other than what I have?
Also, check few oracle docs regarding the same. But, nothing can eliminate this problem.

Java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/mail/Service

Hi,
Happy New Year Everyone! Sadly, it's not that happy for me right now, I'm trying to write a mail app using JavaMail, but I'm getting a NoClassDefFoundError when I run the program.... The program compiles fine, it only crashes when I run the program. Does anyone have any ideas why that's happenning? I compile the program using javac -classpath .:mail.jar *.java and I'm working on a Unix Box. Any help anyone can provide is greatly appreciated!

Read the directions that came with the javamail API...it tells you the OTHER API you need. Also, word of advice....I un jar'd and re-jar'd all the classes from BOTH API's in one file...makes life easier.

Two thoughts.
The first is that 10.2.0.1 is unpatched. Why? It has been two years since its release and no one has applied 10.2.0.2, 10.2.0.3 or 10.2.0.4.
The second is that your question is not a database question but a Java question is you are more likely to get an answer that will help you if you post in a group where it is on-topic.
