Clear a form with JSF?

Hello,
I have a simple form with a user name and two password fields:
<h:form>
<h:inputText value="#{NewUser.name}"
               required="true"
               id="newUserName"/>
<h:inputSecret value="#{NewUser.password}"
               required="true"
               id="newUserPassword"/>
<h:inputSecret value="#{NewUser.confirmPassword}"
               required="true"
               id="newUserConfirm"/>
<h:commandButton value="#{Message.add_user_cmd}"
                    actionListener="#{NewUser.addNewUser}"/>
<h:commandButton value="#{Message.add_user_clear}"
                    action="#{NewUser.init}"
                    immediate="true"/>
</h:form>
the init method in the bean just resets the values:
     public String init()
          setName("");
          setPassword("");
          setConfirmPassword("");
          return null;
All seems fine, but it I enter a name value and hit clear, the value is not removed. I guess there is a simple solution to this as loads of people must need to do it, but I just can't see how?
Thanks
Neil

The submitted value of the component is set to null after updating the corresponding
managed bean. Because you specify immediate="true", the Update Model Values Phase
is skipped and the HtmlInputText component still holds the submitted value which is
used in the Render Response Phase.
The most simple solution is here:
<input type="reset" value="clear"/>

  • Dynamic forms with JSF

    Hello guys !
    I hope you can help me. I am trying to do something with JSF, but I am not sure if JSF is the right approach.
    I am trying to build a dynamic web service, based on the information of a web service. That is I dont know the controls ( radio buttons, checkboxed, input boxes) , my form will have in advance, so I dont build any managed bean that maps all the controls.
    What I thought , it is to have a collection, which has the description of all the questions and posible answers, and dynamically go through the collection and build the form. (that is something I can do with datatables), and then when the user submits the form , in the action method ...I would recover the "answers" based on the ID or name of the controls, but for my surprise I cannot set the name of the controls with JSF , so I am clueless to send the answers of the form.
    I post the fill-up of the form to another web service which very briefl requires someting like this
    <answers>
            <answerid></answerid>
            <answervalue></answervalue>
    </answers>I might have the value , but not the answerid
    Thanks,

    or is there a way I cam force the id of a control ?

  • Very big problem with JSF about FORM and "id=" for HTML form's elements and

    I have discovered a very big problem with JSF about FORM and "id=" for HTML form's elements and java instruction "request.getParameterNames()".
    Suppose you have something like this, to render some datas form a Java Beans :
    <h:dataTable value="#{TablesDb2Bean.myDataDb2ListSelection}" var="current" border="2" width="50%" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="2" style="text-align: center">
    <h:column>
    <f:facet name="header">
    <h:outputText value="Name"/>
    </f:facet>
    <h:outputText id="nameTableDb2" value="#{current.db2_name_table}"/>
    </h:column>
    </h:dataTable>
    Everything works fine...
    Suppose you want to get the name/value pairs for id="nameTableDb2" and #{current.db2_name_table} to process them in a servlet. Here is the HTML generated :
    <td><span <span class="attribute-name">id=<span class="attribute-value">"j_id_jsp_1715189495_22:0:nameTableDb2">my-table-db2-xxxxx</span></td>
    You think you can use the java instructions :
    Enumeration NamesParam = request.getParameterNames();
    while (NomsParam.hasMoreElements()) {
    String NameParam = (String) NamesParam.nextElement();
    out.println("<h4>"++NameParam+ "+</h4>);
    YOU ARE WRONG : request.getParameterNames() wants the syntax *name="nameTableDb2" but JSF must use id="nameTableDb2" for "<h:outputText"... So, you can't process datas in a FORM generated with JSF in a Servlet ! Perhaps I have made an error, but really, I wonder which ?

    While I certainly appreciate ejb's helpful responses, this thread shows up a difference in perspective between how I read the forum and how others do. Author ejb is correct in advising you to stay inside JSF for form processing if form processing is what you want to do.
    However, I detect another aspect to this post which reminds me of something Marc Andreesen once said when he was trying to get Netscape off the ground: "there's no such thing as bad HTML."
    In this case, I interpret ungar's request as a new feature request. Can I phrase it like this?
    "Wouldn't it be nice if I could render my nice form with JSF but, in certain cases, when I REALLY know what I'm doing" just post out to a separate servlet? I know that in this case I'll be missing out on all the nice validation, conversion, l10n, i18n, ajax, portlet and other features provided by JSF".
    If this is the case, because it really misses the point of JSF, we don't allow it, but we do have an issue filed for it
    https://javaserverfaces-spec-public.dev.java.net/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=127
    If you can't wait for it to be fixed, you could decorate the FormRenderer to fix what you want.
    I have an example in my JSF book that shows how to do this decoration. http://bit.ly/edburnsjsf2

    I want to make a parameter form with a selectOneChoice and store this value in a backing bean, so I can use as a bind variable in query. I already made it happen without data control

    The SRDemo has an example of a selectOneRadio bound to a parameter being used to pass to an ExecuteWithParams action (to automatically feed a view object's named bind variable. This is in the SRStaffSearch.jspx page.
    Also, if you check out example # 72 from my blog:
    http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2004/09/23/notYetDocumentedAdfSampleApplications.html#72
    There is another example of using a selectOneListbox to do the same type of thing.
    The steps involved in creating something like this are to:
    (1) Define your named bind variables on your view object
    (2) Drop the "ExecuteWithParams" action in the operations folder of that view object from the Data Control Palette to your page as a "Parameter Form"
    (3) Drop the specific attribute (nested child of the "ExecuteWithParams" action from step (2) as whatever kind of selectOneXXXX control you want
    (4) Delete the extra field on the form you don't want.

    Please help me in configuring JSF 1.2.

    If you are new to JSF, then I'd try and simplify the environment in which you are working as the first step to achieving a successful outcome.
    JSF 1.2 is a certified and well tested component of WLS, so we know it works. I'm not sure of the effect of all those additional modules you are adding in there -- it appears as if you have gotten a Faces implementation instantiated, but there could be some form of version difference/conflict since it can't find a method its looking for.
    Using Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse (http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oepe/oepe_11115.html) you can build yourself out a pretty simple JSF application to get started from and deploy it to a WLS server. This would remove all the additional libraries you currently have, provide you with a bundled applicaton to deploy and give you a pretty good environment from which you can learn and experiment with JSF.

  • Opening and populating a PDF form with VBA code in Access 2007

    I had posted this in Acrobat Windows.  It was suggested this (and the SDK forum) may be a better forum ...
    I'm trying to load and then populate a PDF form programmatically using Access/VBA.  I'm patterning this after code that worked fine in Acrobat 5.0 but is throwing errors in Acrobat 9.  We're using Access 2007 on Windows XP and Vista computers.
    The Access project has a reference to Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Type Library.  Attached is a jpg showing all the references in the Access project.
    The error "Object variable not set (Error 91)" is happening with this statement:
    Set PDDoc = AVDoc.GetPDDoc
    Here is the code I'm trying to use.  I've always been a little fuzzy exactly which objects need to be created and the sequence they need to be created in.  Once I got it working in Acrobat 5 I left it alone.

    Using the "Developing Applications Using Interapplication Communication" reference, I've been filling in knowledge gaps and baby-stepping until I hit this major wall.  FYI:  from page 22 in the reference
    Example 2.6 Displaying “Hello, Acrobat!” in the JavaScript console will not work as shown in Access VBA.  I've tried the example in both Access 2003 and 2007.  The sample code as is throws error 91 (see attachment error91.jpg), "Object variable ... not set".
    I add Set to the following 3 lines:
        Set gApp = CreateObject("AcroExch.App")
        Set gPDDoc = CreateObject("AcroExch.PDDoc")
        Set jso = gPDDoc.GetJSObject
    Running the code after adding "Set" doesn't throw an error but it does crash Access every time.  (see attachment error_reporting.jpg)
    Any suggestions?
    Here's the entire code snippet:
    Private Sub cmdHelloAcrobat_Click()
        Dim gApp As Acrobat.CAcroApp
        Dim gPDDoc As Acrobat.CAcroPDDoc
        Dim jso As Object
        Set gApp = CreateObject("AcroExch.App")
        Set gPDDoc = CreateObject("AcroExch.PDDoc")
        If gPDDoc.Open("C:\chris\acrobat_test.pdf") Then
            Set jso = gPDDoc.GetJSObject
            jso.console.Show
            jso.console.Clear
            jso.console.println ("Hello, Acrobat!")
            gApp.Show
        End If
    End Sub

  • How to clear the form fields which are not rendered

    I have a creation form. There is a document_type list set up as a partial triger. When user change the document type, only the filed related to that document type will be rendered. This caused a problem when we need to clear the form . The input in the field which is not render won't be cleared when reset button is pressed. Can anybody give a sugestion on how to handle this?
    I tried to use the following function to clear the fields. It does not work since it get the list value before the list value change and clear the fields after the new field rendered.

    Hi,
    The easiest way to modify the screens in the Std transactions using ITS is to modify the ITS templates corresponding to that transaction.
    E.g In you case,there will be a ITS service corresponding to the ESS transaction.This ITS service will have  number of HTML templates which will actually correspond to the diffrent screens in the Trascn.What you need to do is find out the HTML template in the ITS service which corresponds to the screen(which you want to modify) in the STd transacn.To do this ,the easiest way is to right click on that Web page and say VIEW SOURCE.It will show you a HTML code with the ITS service name and the template which is being used for that particular screen.
    So after you find out the correct HTML template to be modified,you can simply hide the fields by putting the HTML code lines in between the symbols

  • Urgent! form with webutil works with IAS but not with the 9iDS

    I'm configuring a standalone PC on which i can run forms as if they were running with an IAS. Now we have a form which uses webutil. This form runs fine in our IAS-environment, but fails on the standalone PC.
    On the standalone machine I'm using 9ids (9.0.2) to run this form. When the form is started I'm getting an error: FRM-40734 Internal error PL/SQL error occurred. This is caused by calls to the webutil-routines client_win_api_environment.get_windows_username and client_win_api_environment.get_computer_name
    (When I comment out these calls, the form doesn't return an error)

    I hope anyone can help me with this problem. I0m getting a bit desperate.....

    I've tried your suggestion and the newly created form works on both environments (the standalone PC with the iDS and the "normal" evironment with an IAS). Then I added another button to this newly created form with the code "message(client_win_api_environment.Get_Windows_username);"
    This also works in the new form. Then I added some debugging code to the webutil.pll and discovered that when I use the above code in the new form everything is ok, but when I use the call client_win_api_environment.Get_Windows_username the following exception is raised in the gew_windows_username-procedure: CLIENT_WIN_API.NOT_AVAILABLE
    I've compared the newly created form with the original from and can't discover major differences between the two forms. Do you have another idea where to look?
    I noticed I forgot to mention both forms are created with oracle designer.

  • Form with variable number of fields?

    I need to write a data entry form in JSF. It's the standard kind of things, a series of labels and textFields and checkboxes and so on.
    The number of items is not known in advance. It is data-dependent. There might be 1 label-value pair sometimes and 10 label-value pairs another time, depending on the data.
    To do this in JSF would I have to write a custom component? Using JSP and JSTL tags I would write a <c:forEach> loop, but it seems like that's not the right thing to do in JSF. Does anybody have experience with this, or an example that could get me started? Thanks.

    I think the table would handle the layout and repetition of rows. But if some of the input fields are text input and some are checkboxes or another type, how would I get the right type of input on each row? Do you have an example where the backing bean dynamically builds components, that I could look at? Thanks.

  • Problems with JSF&Tiles (displaying twice one inserted page in tiles)

    I'm using Tiles framework withih Dynamic Web Project in Websphere (WSAD 5.1.1), the project is based on JSF.
    - included tiles.jar in WEB-INF/lib directory
    - in web.xml defined servlet action as: <servlet>

    Can anyone help on this?

    I haven't solved problem yet but so far I realised this:
    - the problem is that both menu.jsp and content.jsp have forms, with tags: <h:form formName="form1" id="form1">.
    I've tried renaming form and id, but it didn't worked, alo tried changing scope of managed beans for the two inserted jsp pages - still nothing.
    - also if the content.jsp is not containing form but other JSF components like Image or Hyperlink, that components are not being shown/rendered.

    You'd need to put the right stuff in the url to make it work,
    just like if
    you were calling a page that's expecting GET params. I don't
    really use the
    HistoryManager, so you'll need to either look into this
    yourself or ask
    someone who knows more about it.

    When I inherit Form with binding DataSet why then designer find mdb file in 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\Common7\IDE\'
    Do I have to anything to change in my application settings or what I am doing wrong?
    When I inherit a plain Form with no binding DataSet then is all ok.

    I finally saw my longingly expected inherited window containing binding dataset.
    But only by way that I put mdb file right in to the this damn path.
    "c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\Common7\IDE\Zdrojove Data\ISMS2003.mdb"
    In addition mdb file shall be clear too of password.
    We have many windows in our application and we have to work strongly good with inheritance of Form Classes.
    But how I will explain to my Boss if he click on that inherited window and will see this break window?
    Though I will advice to my Boss that hi have to copy too that MDB files to this damn path,
    but the best way could be to find what I need to change that this inherited windows shows without copy this MDB files to
    'C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\Common7\IDE\'
    When I check the settings for DataDirectory every paths looks good.
    Even if I set password for the mdb file I almost see only broken designer window.
    Only by copy this MDB file without his password to this path
    'C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\Common7\IDE\'
     I can see this inherited window right.

  • How to create a master form with selectable/insertable subforms?

    I have created a general information form for business services we offer, at the bottom of the form I have made several check boxes so that the person who fills out the form with all of the general information can then select the service they want to sign up for-
    Is there a way to make my form open the specific subform for the services that are selected?
    for instance-
    They fill out their name, address etc and then select the check box for services they want- ideally i would like adobe to know that there is another form associated with that check box and then add that form onto the bottom of the general information form so that the customer can then complete the order form for that service instead of having to go back and request the specific form for that service that they selected on the general information form.
    I am not sure how to put this clearly??
    Example:
    Please select the services you desire from the items below
    (Check box) Toll Free
    (Check box) SIP Interop
    (Check box) Hosted IP
    Say they selected toll free and sip interop from the list, is there a way to make adobe know that it then needs to open those 2 separate forms so the person can complete them?

    Create a JPanel based on the second detail table with the wizard and add manually the JPanel to the Master-detail Form.
    Regards
    Fred

  • PDF Form with a reset button

    I designed an interactive pdf form for a company with a reset button. If someone fills it out then sends it to someone, what's stopping the receipient from hitting the reset button and erasing the info the person sent them.

    If you don't want the end user to be able to reset the form at all, you can set up the form so that the user who populates the form before sending it to the recipient sets the default value of the fields equal to the field value, sets the fields to read-only, and removes the reset button. The recipient won't be able to clear the form at all or interact with the fields. They could also flatten the form, which converts the fields to regular page contents, so there are no longer fields present that can be reset. You would also want to remove the Reset button so that it doesn't appear on the page. This can all be done through a script, but Reader is not able to flatten fields.
    If you need specifics, post again.

    i need to use jsf 2 to try the following tutorial http://weblogs.java.net/blog/driscoll/archive/2008/11/a_simple_ajax_j.html
    I have many problem when I tried it using jdeveloper with jsf 1.2
    so can I use jsf 2 with this version of jdeveloper of is there any tutorial to use jsf and ajax using my version of jdeveloper

    Belal,
    If you want to use JSF 2 with JDeveloper, you will need JDeveloper 11.1.2.
    If you want to deploy a JSF 2 application, you would need to use WebLogic Server 10.3.5 + the appropriate patches.
    There is no version of the full middleware stack (i.e. SOA, Forms, Reports, etc) that supports JSF 2 yet.
