Clearing Text Item Field

When navigating back and forth between forms (i.e. using “Back” and “Continue” Buttons) if I’ve entered something in one of the fields, any value that I’ve entered, regardless of whether or not it’s been saved to the database will still be there when I go back into it the second time (Text Item).
For example, if I enter John Doe into the "Name" field and press "Back" before submitting, when I return to the "Personal Information" Form, "John Doe" will be already populated in the "Name" field.
How do I insure the field is always blank? Is there a SET_ITEM_PROPERTY I’ve missed in the trigger?

don't know exactly what you mean with "back" and "continue"-buttons, but if you navigate to some block shown on a different canvas and you want to clear the data there are several options:
GO_BLOCK('MYBLOCK');
CLEAR_BLOCK(NO_VALIDATE);clears the whole block without asking for saving.
GO_BLOCK('MYBLOCK');
CLEAR_RECORD;clears the current record and
:BLOCK.ITEM:=NULL;justs clears the value of one item.

  • Clearing text items

    hi
    I have some text items, user enters data into these text item and presses ok button.
    After that the data is inserted into the database, but the text items are not cleared.
    What should I do to clear text items after an insert?

    ORA-00904: Voucher invalid identifier
    Eventhough I delete DRIVER_NUMBER,VEHICLE,VOUCHER items from the database and from the datablock, I still got this error message?
    Any idea?ORA-00904 is the error code for invalid identifiers, your SQL clearly showing that the block still has the three columns as database items in your block.
    make sure you don't have in any block the items set as database items.

    would like to use apex_item to popup a calculator for a text item field, is this possible in apex 4.2.2?

    I imagine you could reverse engineer what APEX delivers when you declaratively choose text field with calculator.
    For example, the generated source includes an event:
    onclick="calculatorPopUp_p_t01();"
    These get added to the attributes of your apex_item.text() call.
    Alternatively you just paste the entire generated content, escaping the necessary data.

  • Language restriction on Text Items.

    Hi,
    We are developing an application in Oracle 8i & Forms 6i
    for a Thailand based company. The users will enter data
    in English as well as Thai language.
    We have tested the forms that accepts both English
    & Thai characters in a single text item. The database
    also stores both language's characters. We are using
    TH8TISASCII character set.
    Now, the user has a requirement that certain text items
    (fields) should allow only Thai characters to input.
    In other words, that particular field should not
    accept English characters.
    Is it possible to achieve in Forms 6i ? Are there any
    built-ins or properties available that would do this job ?
    The client machines are running on Windows 2000 Professional
    Edition with locale as Thai.
    Your inputs will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Could you not write a validation trigger that checks the ASCII value of each character in the string that the user has entered and then raises an error if it is not in the correct range?
    If you are web deployed you could use the Keyfilter PJC (you can download this for 6i or 9i) which allows you to define exactly which characters are allowed in the field without having to write PL/SQL validation code.

  • Setting the cursor at the end of a text item Forms 10g

    Is there a way in 10g forms to set the cursor at the end of the text item without highlighting the text.
    I have a text item field when I query it and tab to the field, it highlights the whole text inside the block item. Users sometimes type without thinking so, we made it set the cursor at the end.
    I know in 6i forms there was a client package (d2kwutil) that accomplished this and if I have too, I'll use it via the WebUtil. I just was not sure if there was anything in 10g forms that accomplished the same task.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Chris

    Hello,
    You can also use the good old win_api_shell.sendkeys() d2kwutil function, that works also fine with Web versions.
    For instance, in a When-New-Item-Instance trigger:
    win_api_shell.sendkeys(get_window_property('WINDOW1',window_handle),'{End}',TRUE); Francois

    From the payment document you have to link to the clearing document (Number BSEG-AUGBL, same Fiscal year and Company Code) in the clearing document the text entered in the transaction can be found on item text (BSEG-TEXT).

  • How to clear text fields when the user navigates back to the screen

    Hi,
    Does anyone have any idea on how to clear the text input fields and dropdown boxes when the user navigates back to the screen, say for e.g. create screen?
    My issue is that i have plenty of fields in the create screen within a form. Is there a way to avoid programaticaly blanking out every field and just do it at the form level using an api to reset to a state before the user entry?
    Thanks

    This code allows you to make it more generic, and you would need to tweak it if there are more than TextInput controls, but it should provide some ideas.
    As far as using states, you could use SetProperty to set the text to empty, but that might be messier.

  • FRM-40209 Field must be of form . - for a non-based text item

    Hello,
    When I try querying using a VARCHAR2 non-based text item in a table-based block, setting dynamically in PRE-QUERY trigger the DEFAULT_WHERE property for its block, in case I use characters &gt; or &lt; (for bringing values greater or smaller than the one in the field, as in a standard Oracle query) error message is raised: 'FRM-40209 Field must be of form .' The issue has nothing to do with the error itself (usually related to erronated format mask of the field), and it is known as an Oracle Forms bug: I found it as bug 851153 - which appears on execute query if you enter in a non-base-table-item and the block has a pre-query trigger. The bug has been solved later in Oracle Developer Forms Builder 6i, or so I've been reading, problem is the application I'm working to requires Forms Builder 6.0.5.
    I am trying to find an workaround for this situation and these are the info I managed to discover myself on the topic:
    - if I fill the field with '&gt;value instead of &gt;value, query works fine, bringing only values greater than the specified value. (So far, this and inactivating the FRM-40209 error in ON-ERROR trigger seems like the best I can do)
    - if I only use &gt; (without '), I cannot use an auxiliar variable/global in which to store the actual value written in the field, I also cannot print the value in a message, because trying to use the exact string, it is shown as null (even though when the error is raised, value is still shown on the screen in the text item).
    Maybe someone could help with an idea for an workaround in order to copy the content of the text field before it actually becomes null&hellip;
    Thank you in advance.

    I have already tried that... but for some reasons the field already appears as null, when I try to use it.

  • Report Builder SQL Queries - Convert CN to clear text

    I am trying to customize a query in Report Builder to message values as they are delivered, and running into value expression errors.
    My query returns data from the AD Computer Object "managedBy" field. The problem is that this field returns data in the format of:
    CN=Security Group Name,OU=blah,OU=blah,DC=stuff,DC=com etc
    I am trying to get it to return just the "Security Group" value which is much more useful. I found this great article which almost works for me: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/systemcenter/en-US/6610d238-72f2-4e75-a0cc-e1383dd8e94b/ad-system-discovery-convert-cn-to-clear-text
    However, once I try to save the report in Report Builder I get:
    System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: The Value expression for the text box ‘managedBy0’ refers to the field ‘managedBy0’.  Report item expressions can only refer to fields within the current dataset scope or, if inside an aggregate, the specified
    dataset scope. Letters in the names of fields must use the correct case.
    This is the original SQL query:
    select  all SMS_R_System.Name0,SMS_R_System.managedBy0,SMS_R_System.description0,SMS_G_System_OPERATING_SYSTEM.Caption00,SMS_R_System.Resource_Domain_OR_Workgr0,SMS_R_System.whenCreated0,SMS_R_System.Last_Logon_Timestamp0 from vSMS_R_System AS SMS_R_System

    My edited query:
    select  all SMS_R_System.Name0,REPLACE(SUBSTRING(SMS_R_System.managedBy0,4,CHARINDEX(',OU',SMS_R_System.managedBy0,3)-4),'\,',','),SMS_R_System.description0,SMS_G_System_OPERATING_SYSTEM.Caption00,SMS_R_System.Resource_Domain_OR_Workgr0,SMS_R_System.whenCreated0,SMS_R_System.Last_Logon_Timestamp0

    = SMS_R_System.ItemKey
    Thoughts?

    Hey,
    Since you manipulate the original value of
    ManagedBy0 in your SELECT, the column name will change to
    (No column name). I did a test on my side and look what I get.
    Error : "The Value expression for the text box ‘managedBy0’ refers to the field ‘managedBy0’."
    He search for a variable
    ManagedBy0 in your query but don't find any because there's no name assigned.
    Try to run this query. Add
    AS ManagedBy0 after your REPLACE.
    select all
    SMS_R_System.Name0,
    REPLACE(SUBSTRING(SMS_R_System.managedBy0,4,CHARINDEX(',OU',SMS_R_System.managedBy0,3)-4),'\,',',') AS ManagedBy0,

  • How do you write UNDO for a text item?? examples? or a REDO??

    How do you write UNDO for a text item?? examples? or a REDO??
    I created a pop-up menu with CUT, COPY, PASTE, UNDO, CLEAR for my text items.
    Using MAGIC menu type works great but there is no MAGIC for UNDO or REDO.....
    How do you write UNDO for a text item?? examples? or a REDO??
    I have Oracle Forms 6i...
    Lets say I highlight all the text in the text item, and start typing over it... then I realize OH NO it is the wrong text field...
    Now I want to UNDO the typing and get back to the previous text.
    I'd use the initial value that was populate right? How do I access that if that is correct?
    Thanks, Bill

    You can use;
    <ITEM> := Get_Item_Property(<ITEM>,DATABASE_VALUE);
    Or you will have to write a pre-text-item trigger;
    PRE-TEXT-ITEM:
    :CTRL.CURRENT_VAL := :<BLOCK>.<ITEM>
    MENU (PL/SQL):
    :<BLOCK>.<ITEM> := :CTRL.CURRENT_VAL;
    You may also want to set the item property back to ITEM_IS_VALID so that item validation does not fire again.

  • How to enter the data into data block text item which has an LOV associated

    Hi,
    I have a data block, one of the data block text item has an LOV assigned. when I populate this text item using the LOV and do "execute_query", it is taking the value in the text item and adding it to the search criteria, but when I enter a value manually in that text item and do "execute_query" it is showing me an alert(which I created) "Please enter a value".
    My question is, why is not taking the value that I enter manually? Looks like before executing the query, this field is getting empty
    How to avoid this problem and make sure that the value entered in the text item is added in the where clause of the query?
    Any advice?
    Thanks in advance

    Problem solved!
    Before doing execute-query, all the text items are being cleared,so I used a global variable to store that value
    Thanks anyway

  • Text items not being refreshed by LOV items.

    Hi all,
    I've got a strange LOV behavior problems which I cannot solve and require your valuable time and efforts.
    I've created a simple ADF JSF pages with 3 fields and the first field is LOV enabled. For all new row, after clicking the LOV icon, the LOV will show up and after selecting a particular value, it closes the LOV screen and replace it with a new row with the selected LOV data. It is all working well for all new rows just like a normal LOV should perform.
    But I had problem with existing data. The row which I selected from the LOV somehow cannot referesh and overwrite any existing row (visually) but after commiting the data, it was actually written and refreshed with the correct data. Is there a property in the JHeadstart Application Definition Editor where I enforce the text items to be refreshed by the LOV items?
    Thank you for your time and efforts.
    Kind Regards,
    John

    Hi Guys,
    I've performed the following scenarios attempting to refreshed Text items by the LOV Items.
    Scenario 1: Create a new column called some_key load unique number into it. Set this column as the primay key and deselect existing primary keys as key attributes. Also, I've created a sequence and some_key is of type of DBSequence getting value from the new sequence starting from 1.
    After generation when run and the result is:
    JBO-27022: Failed to load value at index 11 with java object of type oracle.jbo.domain.DBSequence due to java.sql.SQLException.
    ## Detail 0 ##java.sql.SQLException: Invalid column index
    Scenario 2: Create a unique index for the some_key column, rerun and the result is:
    JBO-27022: Failed to load value at index 11 with java object of type oracle.jbo.domain.DBSequence due to java.sql.SQLException.
    ## Detail 0 ##java.sql.SQLException: Invalid column index
    Scenario 3: Set some_key as number instead of DBSequence (from Entity Object Editor), rerun and the result is:
    JBO-27021: Failed to load CustomDatum value at index 11 with java object of type oracle.jbo.domain.Number due to java.sql.SQLException.
    ## Detail 0 ##java.sql.SQLException: Invalid column index
    Scenario 4: Deattach the offending View Object from the Application Module. Remove the offending view link and view object. Recreate view object and view link. Reset some_key is of type of DBSequence getting value from the new sequence starting from 1 (From the Entity Object Editor). After generation when run and result is:
    SUCCESSFULLY!!
    So, I guess the bottom line is here are the following things which you need to perform in order to enable text item to be refreshed by LOV item (if the detail table has composite primary keys)
    1.) Create a new column
    2.) Load unique value to it
    3.) Create unique index for it
    4.) Create entity object, view object and view link object.
    5.) Set the new column as primary key.
    6.) Deselect the key attributes for all composite primary key columns.
    Regards,
    John
