Clicking a Link in Thunderbird - open with Firefox.

This seems like it should be really simple...
In Thunderbird, I click on a link and nothing happens. I've edited my prefs.js file to include these lines:
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.http", "/opt/mozilla/bin/firefox");
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.ftp", "/opt/mozilla/bin/firefox");
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.https", "/opt/mozilla/bin/firefox");
After I restart Thunderbird, still nothing happens when I click on a link.
The crazy thing is that when I open up prefs.js again, the lines I added are gone. And it's not that Thunderbird has reordered the lines in prefs.js (I've searched through the file)... it's as if Thunderbird hates Firefox .
Where am I going wrong?

Allan, I can't find the user.js file inside the .thunderbird/**.default/ directory
Weird... those lines now appear in prefs.js . I wish I could just edit the file (I like config files better than this GUI interface). Well, at least it works . Thanks!

if Firefox is not already running, opening a PDF document using Firefox (eg right-clicking PDF from desktop, selecting 'open with > Firefox) is always causing Firefox top open the PDF in two different windows.
Happening with PDF plugins enabled and disabled.
Maybe this is a bug and I should report as such?

I tried it again using "save link as", and this time it actually worked! I just now downloaded several more using the "save link as" option, and it works perfectly. Thanks. Problem solved.

When internet icons on the desktop are right clicked and Firefox is not the default browser, is there anyway to create an "Open with Firefox" option in the right click menu? If not you should create one in future versions.

You will have to create a copy of the Firefox desktop shortcut and add the URL to the target line if you want to open such an internet shortcut with Firefox.
A normal internet shortcut will always open in the default browser.

Email links do NOT open if Firefox more than one profile

Using OpenSUSE 12.2. If I have more than one profile for Firefox, say Profile1="default", and Profile2="mywife" then links in Thunderbird won't open in Firefox 18 or 19 when Firefox is Default Browser. However if I erase one of the profiles (any one of them) then Firefox starts behaving normally.
Other browsers, Chromium or Chrome do handle thunderbird links appropiately.
I have seen that many people seem to have a similar problem. I am writing this hoping it could help developers to eliminate the bug.

In past times when I clicked on a link in Thunderbird (using 2 firefox profiles) firefox ProfileManager window would pop up. But now it doesn't appear any more. I click ctrl+t, click the new tab button, right click the tab bar and hit "new tab", and even click "File" and hit "New Tab", but it still won't open a tab!
This has been going on for a week!
I know it may not seem like too much of a problem since I can still open a tab, but it's terribly inconvenient that I can only open one by clicking a link.

The Ask Toolbar is causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13+ versions. Uninstall that extension.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:

Cannot open .jnlp file when asked to open with firefox web browser in ubuntu 11.10 using firefox 6

After upgrading to ubuntu 11.10 the firefox 6 browser cannot download and open .jnlp file from the interactivebrokers website. Usually I go to the IB website and download tws.jnlp file which is opened in the firefox web browser. But now when I click on the Open with Firefox Browser button, the firefox browser opens a new tab and display the same open window again.

If you right click the file on the download folder and choose "open with" you can manually select java web start.

FLV(F4V): Specific f4v file cannot open with Firefox

Hi all,
I have a flv movie garelly kind of thing on my website, works all fine on IE v11 and Chrome v32.
However, there is one specific f4v file cannot open on Firefox v26.
Getting error says [HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found 315ms].
There were no problem with about one year earlier version of Firefox, on Win7 x64, now I'm on Win8.1 x64.
Anyone have any idea about this?
