Clicking on a file name in the Save As dialog removes the extension (.html or .jpg)

In previous versions of (any) browser I could save a web page, and if there were more than one page, as in a thread in a forum, I used to be able to click on the saved file, "file 01.html" in the Save as dialog, it would show up as "file 01.html" and I could change the 01 to 02 for the second page, ie "file 02.html"
But now when I click on the file name it shows as "file 01", the .html disappears. Same for .jpg or any other extension.
This is very annoying, especially when I find a long, multipage thread on a subject I want to read later offline.
Bug or Feature? Either way I don't like it.
How can I change it back?
Thanks,
David

I have seen that as well. If I change the name of a .jpg picture I am downloading, I have to add back the extension into the file name. If I do not change the name, the extension is kept.

  • Hide the Save As dialog in the digital signature process

    Hi!
I'm searching for a way to hide the Save As dialog when digitally signing a pdf document (embedded in a website) and instead transmit the signed document back to the website without saving it locally.
(The reason for doing this is, that I can not be sure whether the user is capable of storing the signed document locally, recover it and send it back to the server.)
In the "Adobe Acrobat SDK - Developing Plug-ins and Application" documentation under "Digital signature extended API", "Understanding the process" is stated that the digital signature plug-in displays the Save As dialog box. But it's not clear to me whether there is a way to suppress it and instead call some custom code to send the document to a webservice or something like that. (btw: I'm new to the acrobat sdk api)
Could someone be a bit more specific about this?
Are there other ways to achieve my aims?
(To use submit buttons inside the document is not an option.)
    Thanks and kind regards
    Marcel

    Hi Leonard
I'll try to explain in more detail what I'd like to do. :)
    Preconditions:
    - I have no controle over the forms.
    - I need to build a website hosting PDF documents for clients.
    - The client needs to be able to access these docs and digitally sign them.
    - When the client signs them, they should be stored on the website (overwrite the unsigned ones).
    Problem:
The whole process should be as simple as possible for the client. Therefore he should not have to manually download the docs, sign them and manually upload them to the website.
    Possible solution:
The client selects a document to sign which is then opened inside the website (aspx / custom control) by the Adobe Reader browser plug-in.
Now, when the client signs the document I would like to catch the "Save as" dialog and instead call some custom routine to send the signed document back to the website (webservice).
    As I see it:
We would have to write a Reader plug-in that would be started when the browser-plugin is called and could be passed the address of the webservice (to send the signed PDF). Maybe the address passing could be done by javascript, but the handling of the "Save as" dialog would probably have to be handled by a custom plug-in.
    My question:
Is there any way to accomplish the above (if yes, how?), or are these things that are just not possible (why? ;)?
I hope this helps to clear up things a little...
    Thanks for any help!

  • When saving documents from word 2013, the save as dialog shows the default path under "other web locations"

it used to be in the gold ole days of sharepoint 2010 and office 2010 that when I created a document in sharepoint and saved it I would get a dialog, like this (see below)  I have also attached a screen shot of the 2013 save dialog (when you save
a document for the first time).
I find it strange that the user actually has to select their "Current Folder" and also that it shows in the dialog as "other web locations"  Why can't it be like in the 2010 days where it automically selects the correct location
and the user just hits save.  And why does the sharepoint location show up as an "other web location".  Is there anything that can be done (through office registry settings or another way) to make this less confusing for our users???
now when I do this in office 2013 I get a dialog like this:
    krd

    Hi kdube,
I test in SharePoint 2013 again, When I created a new document library and created a first document and clicked save as, I got a same dialog with you that "Current Folder" was under  "other web locations".
But when I created a second document and from then on, when I clicked save as, I got a same dialog with myself that "Current Folder" was under "SharePoint".
As I have said, Actually, web locations contain Microsoft SkyDrive and SharePoint libraries. Even the default path under "other web locations", it will not affect the Save As function.

  • Photoshop Elements 12 is failing to add the jpg extension to file names when I "save as" even though the jpg format is selected in the drop-down list

I've just been following my normal workflow and all of a sudden my saved files don't have the jpg extension. I'm not having this problem in other photo editing software I use. I haven't changed any settings. Anybody else have this problem?

The Local Settings folder is a hidden folder.
    (1) If the file appears in the Downloads manager (Tools menu or Ctrl+j), you can right-click it and use Open Containing Folder to get directly to it.
    (2) To be able to see hidden folders on Windows XP in general, try this:
Open My Computer or Windows Explorer
Tools > Folder Options > View tab
Scroll down and look for the checkbox regarding hidden files and folders and unhide them.
Hopefully this will resolve the issue. Any luck?
    (3) By the way, you may be able to save the images from the email message to a more convenient location by right-clicking the links and using Save Link As. (Before you open them for editing.)

  • Export: In the Save as dialog, the file name is always shown as Crystalviewer instead of the report nameu00A0

    CA Forum: Exporting
    hi,
we are using crystal report server XI. in this i am not able  to export a report with particular report name. see the following steps.
Generate a report. Click the Export icon.Select the format in which the report has to be stored and click Ok button
Expected Behavior:The Save As form with the report name as file name should be displayed
Actual BehaviorFile download window is displayed showing the name of report as crystalviewer.rpt and when Save button is clicked, the Save AS dialog with the filename as Crystalviewer is displayed. The user has to specify a meaningful report name

    Post Author: foghat
    CA Forum: Exporting
This sounds about right, I can't recall if I've never seen Crystal default to the .rpt name when exporting a report.  In developer XI, reports saved on the enterprise server have some crazy long non-nonsensical unique identifier on export.  If the report is saved locally, it just gives untitled.xxx on export. That said, I find the users usually end up renaming the report file name anyways, so not a big issue.

  • How Does The Browser Know The "File Name" field in the "Save As" dialog

    Hi!
I have a servlet called co.com.SomeStaff who reads a binary file from the server an sends it to the breowser.
The Browser opens the "Save As" Dialog whith the value "co.com.SomeStaff" in the File name field, but and I need the name "SomeBinariFile.exe" instead.
How can I change that value?
    Thanks All.

    Use <%

  • I get the Save As dialog when trying to Save, whether using Command-S or File menu

When trying to Save a document, I am presented with the Save As dialog. The file name has a serial number added  to the old file name and the default destination is the Documents file. This happens whether I have tried to save using Command-S or using the Save option in the File menu. This started after I upgraded to Mavericks.

I checked and the files are not stationery pads, Permissions show me as having read and write authority.
But, when I  opened the files from the finder, the problem disappears and they saved normally. I then removed the files from the Dock and re-placed them in the Dock via drag and drop. The problem re-appears and changes will not save normally. Not being able to use the Dock is inconvenient but at least there is a workaround. Thanks for your help! Before declaring victory, I'd like to watch it for a while for other quirks.

  • How do I move the 'save as' dialog out of my way in Preview?

I have a stack of pdf files to rename, for which I need to read the contents. The filenames are composed from the authors, title and date which are inside the documents. The trouble is that I can't save them without the 'save as' dialog occluding the document, which I need to see in order to fish out the authors, title and date.
How can I move the 'save as' dialog off the document view?
Is there another way around this problem?
I'm using Snow Leopard's version of Preview, in case it matters.

Yes, that makes it pretty much impossible if you need to grab text from various places first and assemble it into the file name you want.
I can copy/paste text out of a PDF with the Adobe Reader into a Save As dialogue box, but then run into your same issue with Preview. I can't move back to the document to get another snippet of text.

  • Can the default for Format be changed in the Save As dialog?

I'm running PSE 6 on XP.
When I do a Ctrl-W to save and close a new image I get taken to the Save As dialog.
The Format is always set to PSD.
But for the things I'm working on, I just want to save them as jpg's.
Is there a way to change that default in the Save As dialog?
    Thanks.

I've never found a way to set the default format. I use a keyboard macro utility, Quick Macros, to accelerate common actions like saving a file in JPEG format at maximum quality. There are many such utilities, none of them particularly great.

  • Passing file name variable to the save as dialog

    Hi:
I have an event listener that checks if the user has selected the file/"save as" menu and brings up another dialog window asking for some additional information about the client and job. I would like to pass a variable from this custom dialog to the file name field in the standard Save As dialog.
Anybody have an idea how I can do this?
I am using inDesign3 on Windows XP. I am using VB for the scripting.
    thanks!!
    Dan

Hi: thanks for looking at it.
Actually, I am not calling the save as in my script, the user is clicking on Save As and the event listener I have in the start up folder is picking that up. The event listener calls up a script that asks users to fill in a couple of fields about the specific job and once they do that and click ok, the default inDesign "save as" dialog is brought up. So that is my question -- how to pass the information from my dialog to the standard "save as" dialog (as the file name of the file).
The event listener is of the beforeInvoke on the Save As... menu.
    Any idea?
    thanks!!

  • When I open the "Save Page As" window, the drop-down box for the file name shows files that were saved long ago. This is not cleared by any "clear history" function that I can find. How do I clear this?

    # Question
When I open the "Save Page As" window, the drop-down box for the file name shows files that were saved long ago. This is not cleared by any "clear history" function that I can find. How do I clear this?

    Hello.
I believe this is a Windows related issue, since it's the windows Save File manager we're talking about here (right?). You should contact Microsoft for help on that one, I believe. You'd expect to be able to delete the entries by simply tapping ''Delete'' on your keyboard when they are focused (that's how it goes for deleting specific form autocomplete entries in Firefox), but I haven't tried that.
I'm sorry I can't be of more help.

Did anyone came across such issue while deploying Orchard on Azure with TF service? If yes, how did you sort this freaking error?
    Thanks,
    Altaf B.

    Hi AltafB,
For your situation, you can short the path for the source code. Or use a short path for build agent folder in your build definition. You can refer to the links below to solve your problem:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/aaronhallberg/archive/2007/06/20/team-build-and-260-character-paths.aspx

Besides, since you deploy Orchard to Azure, you can also publish it directly using publish profile in Visual Stduio or WebMatrix directly.

  • How to show a downloads file size in the "Save As" dialog?

    Hello,
I have been using Firefox off and on for the last year or so, and there's one thing that always gets me to stop using it, whenever I download a file I cant see the file size of it in the "Save As" dialog, Internet Explorer and Opera has this feature and it's one of the things that I really need, I have tried that extension that does this (I forget the name of it), but unfortunately it is not for Firefox 4 :(
Thanks you for your help :)

    Hi,
Visit the following link for you addon:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/show-file-size/
This addon is incompatible for Firefox 4.0 RC. but you can add another addon in firefox to make it work: Addon Compatibility reporter. 1st install this addon and then install your " Show file size addon" it should work then.
    Addon compatibility reporter addon link:

  • How do I force Firefox (6v02) to stop showing thumbnails of existing file(s) in the save-as dialog box?

I save files associated with similar objects using similar names (just a different extension, or numeric sequence). The save-as dialog box shows a list of existing files. When I choose one, with the intention of changing the file extension or the numeric sequence (e.g., choose 'file001.jpg' in order to rename the new file to be saved 'file002.mpg') the thumbnail associated with the one I select is shown on the right. I neither want nor need this time-consuming & memory-consuming process to take place. I would like to be able to disable this feature in order to allow me to do what I want directly and faster (P3/866MHz/512MB).

Perhaps, but the problem is I don't really know what to look for. I've tried doing a keyword search of the AIprefs file to find where ICC profiles and compression could be located but I couldn't find anything. Does anyone know what they are called and what I should modify?

  • Click a Link and open the save-as dialog box instead of browser opening it

Basically, i have a link to an image and when i click it the browser opens the image. I would prefer that when i click the link to the image that i get some sort of save functionality to occur.
I created a link to the Google logo so it looks like Google image when clicked the browser opens the image. What i would like to do is click the link and then have the save-as dialog pop up (or something similar). Currently I would either have to right click the opened image and save image as or right click the link and then save-as that way. In this instance the file doesn't reside on the database but an external source so is there a way to save-as dialog once the link is clicked?

Sorry, I have no idea what you are doing; can you give us some details?
