Client Hyper-V "Cannot Connect to Virtual Machine"

I'm trying to run Client Hyper-V on my Windows 8 Pro machine. I was able to successfully install the service, and can create virtual machines and hard disks on my local system. I can even start them, and see boot activity via the preview window in the MMC.
I cannot, however, connect to any machines from the local system: when I do, it hangs on "Connecting to <machinename>" for 30 seconds before it pops up with the dialog:
"Cannot connect to virtual machine. Try to connect again. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator."
Obviously, because this is Client Hyper-V, I am the system administrator, so I scour the Internet to solve my problem. I see solutions related to firewalls, administrative permissions, a few other things, and nothing has worked. I also tried creating
a virtual machine on a Windows 8 Enterprise system (which can connect to it just fine) and export it for the Pro machine to import, and I still cannot connect to it, whether the VM is registered in place or copied to the host.
Some other notes:
- None of these systems has an OS installed - two locally created ones either had no boot or booted off a Linux LiveCD, and the exported one attempted to do a PXE boot. Thus, I cannot attempt to link via Remote Desktop since the computers have no names
- Hyper-V has some other quirks on my system as well: in order to stop a virtual machine, I have to end the vmwp process - which restarts the machine - and then stop it from the console within a few seconds. Otherwise, it hangs in the "Stopping"
state. In addition, none of the buttons on the side of the MMC work, but that occurs over all of MMC.
- No events show up in the Event log when a connection fails
- I am an admin on the Pro machine and have permissions to connect to machines and operate the management view

When you checked the event log’s what sources did you check?
Can you verify there are not any relevant error/warning events under the following sources:

  • Windows Pro 8.1 Hyper-V enabled - cannot connect to Virtual Machines

I'm running Windows Pro 8.1. Virtualization is enabled in BIOS. Account is in Admin, Hyper-V, RDP groups. I open Hyper-V manager. Create a new Virtual Switch (internal) and name it. Then create a new virtual machine - name it, place it in a folder under
C:, Specify Generation (tried both 1 and 2), startup memory 512mb not dynamic, Lan- select the virtual switch created earlier, create an vhdx hard disk, and install the O.S. from an ISO on C. Creates the new VM under Virtual Machines.
I select the new VM, click connect, then start. A window opens with the new VM on server and says it's connecting to it and it's status is Running. In the Hyper-V manager  in the New Virtual Machine pane (bottom pane) it shows a image that
appears to have a login screen. The VM window that displays the "Connection to" eventually throws an error : Virtual machine connection: Cannot connect to the virtual machine, Try to connect again. contact your admin, Try again etc. selecting connect
eventually errors out with check integration services etc. I've read the logs, there are no errors. When I try to shut down or turn off the vm it doesn't respond. I've configured this before on different boxes. It's the work environment for the MCSA 70-462
training kit Preparation. any direction would be greatly appreciated.

That is correct.  This has been well documented.
The WMI namespace changed.  2008 and 2008 R2 now of the v1 virtualization namespace.  2012 knows of both v1 and v2.  And 2012 R2 only knows the v2 virtualization namespace.
That said, there is more to this.
2008 management console only knows 2008 features.  So if you connect it to a 2012 server to manage the 2012 server, you cannot manage any of the features released with 2008 R2 nor 2012.
So, take this second point, mix it with the first point and I recommend that your management server / client release matches the release of the Server you are managing.

  • Cannot connect to virtual machine in hyper-v

One of our servers got corrupted and I managed to salvage the VHDs of the two VMs we were running on it. The server was Win Serv 2003 and was running virtual server.
Now I'm trying to import the VHDs into Hyper-V on a newer 2008-R2 server and while the VM seemed to import just fine I cannot connect to it. Each time I try it gives me this error:
"Cannot connect to the virtual machine. Try to connect again. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator."
I think the issue could be that the VM was apart of a domain and now I'm trying to connect with a server that is on a different domain and has a different DNS.
Is there anyway I can save this VM and not have to start from scratch?

    Hi,
Is Windows Server 2003 is a DC? Is there a backup DC for Windows server 2003 if it is a DC?
If you logon with domain account, you cannot connect to the origin domain if you don't have DC or you haven't restored DC. To fix this issue, you can restore Windows 7 to the point when windows 7 doesn't domain if you have such a restore point.
Also, if you have DC and still connect to the virtual machine, i recommend you to log on the Windows 7 client with local adminstrator , disjoin from origin domain, then re-join the domain. At last, it will work well.

  • SAP client and other software on a Virtual Machine

I'm the campus coordinator for a university that is a member of the University Alliances program.  This gives us the ability to put the R/3 client and other software on lab machines and also distribute it to students.
Given that we deploy in a shared lab environment on a university campus we often don't have absolute control over things like browser versions, plugins available, security settings, Java version available, and so on.  We also only have the ability to do updates, installations, etc. at fixed times of the year.
As a solution for this, we're contemplating creating a virtual machine to be able to control the environment more and also allow the student greater control and customization.  At this point we'd be looking at developing a Windows VM, either Vista or XP, that would have the R/3 client, IE with all the correct plugins for running Visual Composer, NetWeaver Developer Studio, and other programs such as Solution Composer.  The idea would be that if we need to add a new software resource, change a version, tweak the environment, etc. we could just update and redistribute this virtual machine.
Has anyone here attempted this type of deployment?  As we are just beginning, any helpful hints or advice would be appreciated.

I appreciate your willingness to think through this with me and share your expertise.

    > Why do you think so? The "key" you use during installation is bound to a medium. We also have a license that allows us to fully automatically install Windows XP on our client PCs using Empirum and also install all other necessary software (IE updates, SAPGUI, Adobe SVG, Microsoft Office etc.)
My assumption was that if we had multiple windows instances out there all with the same key (assuming non-volume key) that the piracy protection built into the OS might in some way cause problems.
    > (Perhaps not.  We're still considering the ins and outs of that.)  We're hesitant to put our campus volume license key on these VMs, since one could recover that key from the system and then it could become publicly available.  Clearly that would be bad.
    >
    > That may be not a problem because those keys "usually" work only with the corresponding media - people would need to get their hands on a coorporate installation media to actually use it.
I'm not sure how challenging that in fact might be.  A quick Google search turned up lots of sites that at least claim to have Windows volume keys and necessary install media.  I know that college students can be very adept at things in that domain.
    > The biggest problem you might face is the UUID of the client instances - they will be identical. If you plan to use Active Directory functionality (for e. g. Single Sign On) then you need to make sure each VM is different (speaking of running sysprep) and that you have a different user on each VM - which will be not easy to mantain.
If I'm understanding your thought correctly, the UUID issue is why I thought attempting 1 shared OS license key for all VMs would be problematic.  My assumption is that having a unique OS key on each VM would solve this problem.
As far Active Directory goes, that likely won't be an issue. Our students have storage on the campus network, but we have no plans for the VM to access that.  All our SAP resources are hosted remotely at a UCC.  I envision the students being able to 'boot' their VM, connect to the UCC using the client software, do their SAP work, and be done.  The only storage they'd have in the VM would be a drive in the VM.  While this might not work in many deployments, given our use of this just for lab instruction, I think it would work well.
    > Another point to consider is: How to update? If you update your main image (e. g. necessary SAPGUI patches) - how will you distribute that to the USB-VMs - or how will you make sure the students use the latest copy?
This is where our situation and a corporate situation likely differs.  Since we are hosted by a UCC that caters just to the academic environment things tend to be build and frozen during the summer and then not changed until the next year.  Our classes run each semester independently.  Although we may have to roll out a different VM from one semester to the next, a mid-semester change shouldn't be needed.  However, having said that, if we do need to install a patch, that should be much easier.  In a lab shared environment updating a software version requires a lot of coordination.  In this VM situation, each students has full administrator privilege over their VM.  If they need to install a patch, they can do so.  If they mess this up, they haven't disrupted anyone else.  In that instance they could just download the base VM again as a 'reset.'
    > In such an environment I'd more think about setting up a terminal server (using Windows 2003) and install all necessary software there. With that you only need to update at one place, you can granularily give permissions to the users and supporting users in case of a proble is easier (mirroring the session) than having single instances with all the same hostname of the client. And all students only need an RDP client which comes with the Windows XP or Vista by default.
That is something we haven't considered with this project, and I'll have to check with our system manager.  Resources might be an issue here.  We have an abundance of PCs, so each of them running their own VM isn't an issue.  I'm not sure if we have a server capable of supporting 30-40 simultaneous remote connections that is not otherwise in use.
Thanks for your ideas here Markus.  Any other thoughts, ideas, etc. are most welcome.  I'll also update this thread as I start experimenting with this over the next couple of weeks.

  • Connect to Virtual Machine Fails

Hello, I have a quick question about authentication in SCVMM console. We use non-privileged account on our local workstations where we use our SCVMM consoles (which has no access to SCVMM). When we open our console, SCVMM prompts for credentials, we provide
it our privileged account and get logged in. This works great until we try to connect to the console of a VM. The system tries to use our non-privileged credentials to open the console, which fails with Access Denied.  Is there anyway to make SCVMM use
the same account that we logged into the console as to also open the VM consoles?  Thanks.

This seems a bug wherein VirtualMachineViewer.exe process launches in the same security context with which you logged onto your workstation
Possible workaround is to create a new Definition that only allow viewing / receiving input and output from the Hyper-v virtual machines , To do this
Start Authorization manager (azman.mmc) on each Hyper-V hosts (in your cluster or host groups in SCVMM)
Open the InitalStore.xml document located within \ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Hyper-V\
Expand out InitialSTore.xml, then Hyper-V Services, then Definitions.
Create a new definition ,specify the appropriate name and Click Add  | Move to  the "Tasks" section.  |  Click on the "operations" tab and select below given options to
"Allow input to VMs & Allow output from VMs &  View VMs configurations"
Hit OK to comeback to main definition page , here expand out Role Assignments, and right click the new definition, select "Assign users and Groups", then select "From Windows and Active Directory"
Add the users that need to open the console only for viewing VM's and opening the VM Viewer console.
Hopefully you will achieve what you expects :)
    Thanks

  • Cannot open 2 Virtual Machines at the same time to access the same Database

    Folks,
    Hello.
I am installing Oracle Database 11gR2 RAC system using 2 Virtual Machines (rac1 and rac2) on the top of VMPlayer 3.
The VM rac1 and rac2 run correctly when one of them is shutdown.
Their locations are F:\VM_RAC\rac1 and F:\VM_RAC\rac2.
While rac2 is running, I open rac1. But this error message comes up:
Error: "Cannot open the disk F:\VM_RAC\sharerac\asm1.vmdk or one of snapshot disks it depends on. Reason: failed to lock the file."
While rac1 is running, I open rac2. But this error message comes up:
Error: "Cannot open the disk F:\VM_RAC\sharerac\asm1.vmdk or one of snapshot disks it depends on. Reason: failed to lock the file."
The 2 error messages are the same. This means I cannot open 2 VMs rac1 and rac2 at the same time. When we run RAC system, we have to open 2 machines or more than 2 machines at the same time so that all machines can access the same Database Server.
    My question is:
Can any folk tell me how to have rac1 and rac2 run at the same time ?
    Thanks.

You need to disable disk locking, which ordinarily is performed by the first VM to prevent any other VMs from corrupting your vmdk files via uncoordinated writes. You will have to shutdown both of your VMs and edit the *.vmx flat file for each, adding lines like the following (settings taken from workstation 6, but should be nearly identical settings for VM Player 3.x):
    http://crosbysite.blogspot.com/2007/10/clustering-in-vmware-workstation-6.html
    scsi1.sharedbus = "Virtual"
    disk.locking = "false"
    diskLib.dataCacheMaxSize = "0"
    diskLib.dataCacheMaxReadAheadSize = "0"
    diskLib.dataCacheMinReadAheadSize = "0"
    diskLib.dataCachePageSize = "4096"
    diskLib.maxUnsyncedWrites = "0"
    A few comments:
    - your shared disks (scsi1) must be on a separate virtual scsi bus than the boot disk (scsi0), to allow setting the sharedbus flag as seen above.
    - you must also ensure the cache parameters and unsynced writes settings are set to guarantee that all IO is immediately flushed to the vmdk file so the other VM can immediately access the latest version of data.

  • Cannot create guest virtual machine with Solaris 10 SPARC in Oracle VM 2.2

    Dear All,
I try many times to create guest virtual machine with Solaris 10 SPARC but not get success.
When I created it already and then I start the Power On button, it run normally but the Console button cannot click on (hide). After that the virtual machine running abit then it change status to Powered Off.
Please kindly give advice for this.
    Thanks and regards,
    Heng

I storgly doubt, VMware player is available for Solaris 10 SPARC version.
Solaris 10 is not a comercial product, like ubuntu, windows, MAC etc... It's really for a server.
That's the reason still I hate Solaris 11 as a desktop. You have very limited product/software.... This may change for Solaris 11, but U can't expect one for Solaris 10.

  • Installed VRN L2TP - but cannot connect due to machine Authentication - shared secret - ?

Hi, I have an imac (os - x Version 10.9).  I installed VRN L2TP in order to view some TV.  However, cannot connect as am being asked to Machine Authenticate - shared secret.   ?
    Clueless John

Do you mean VPN? (That's a method for connecting to another network securely, and does indeed require a shared secret to connect using the L2TP method.)
VPN is a way that you can view online TV from other countries that normally block global access. I believe it's an issue that the Apple Discussions terms of service would consider infringement, so your best option would be to talk directly with the software or service provider who's supplying your VPN.

  • Installing Hyper-V Powershell Module on Virtual Machine

I have a situation where I am running Hyper-V 2012 and have several virtual RemoteApp RDS servers (server 2012 R2) with a user profile disk server (also 2012R2 virtual machine) that stores all of the VHDX user profile disks. I want to perform some maintenance
on the VHDX files by running optimize-vhd to compact the disks to keep them from being larger than they need to be. Anyhow, that PowerShell commandlet won't run unless the Hyper-V module is installed but in order to install it, the Hyper-V role must be installed.
Since it's a virtual machine, it's not supported to install the Hyper-V role (although I hear it may be possible) so I was wondering if it is possible to install only the Hyper-V PowerShell modules. I would just use a Hyper-V server to run it but the commandlet
does not seem to allow UNC/Share paths. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance for your time!

    Hi Scott,
I tested on my hyper-v enviroment, and installed the feature "Hyper-v Module for Windows Powershell" on VM, and I could run the cmdlet "optimize-vhd", however, It couldn't run successfully without Hyper-v Role installed:
In addition, if you just want to compact the vhd file on vm, how about using the command "DiskPart":
You can then complete the compacting using diskpart from a Command Prompt:
    Run diskpart
Select the disk via its path: select vdisk file="<path>"
Attach it as read-only: attach vdisk readonly
    Compact it: compact vdisk
Upon completion of the compact, detach it again: detach vdisk
You can then re-attach it via Disk Management in its normal and newly compacted state
    Refer to:
    https://fiddley.wordpress.com/2014/01/27/dynamically-expanding-vhd-not-compacting-in-hyper-v/
If there is anything else regarding this issue, please feel free to post back.

  • Can Hyper-V run in a virtual machine?

Ok, we all know (or should know) that Microsoft's answer is a plain "No!".
But we also know that recent hypervisors can support nested/recursive virtualization, provided the underlying CPU offers hardware virtualization; VMware's recent products (ESXi 5, Workstation 8) even support this natively,
without the need for ugly hacks.
So, my question is: can Hyper-V run succesfully (i.e. allowing to actually run virtual machines) inside other hypervisors?
If yes, which ones? And how?

Yes, it can, if the underlying CPUs support the latest virtualization extensions (Intel VT-X/EPT) and if you're using  VMware products at least (Workstation 8, ESXi 5).
The relevant settings in your VM should be as follows:
    monitor.virtual_mmu = "hardware"
    monitor.virtual_exec = "hardware"
    vhv.enable = "TRUE"
    hypervisor.cpuid.v0 = "FALSE"
The first three settings can be enabled via GUI (where exactly varies slightly between Workstation and ESXi), the last one needs to be manually added to the VM's .vmx file.
Additionally, on ESXi 5, you need to add the following line to /etc/vmware/config:
    vhv.allow = "TRUE"

  • Cannot Connect to New Machines on Network

I've installed three new machines on my network and can only make the ARD connection to two of them. They all have the same settings, yet I cannot access the login/pass section to complete the connection. I can see them on my network, just cannot do anything else with them. Any suggestions? I've tried reinstalling the client software to no avail.
    I'm using ARD Admin 3.5
all the machine have ARD 3.5.1 client
Why would those two machines be any different?

When I get that flash of the authentication screen, it is because I already have a computer in the "all computers" list that has the same IP.  Which occurs not too infrequently if you use DHCP.  I think it has occasionally happened for other similar things like DNS name.
You can go to the all computers list, sort by ip, get info on the offending computer, select edit and change the ip to something else.  Anything else.  When the computer comes back online, it will update anyway.  Then you should be able to add your new computer.  Hope this is your issue.  It's annoying, but once in the list you don't have to do it again.  You might see a little confusion with names, etc, but once both computers have been online it will resolve.

  • Hyper-V cluster Backup causes virtual machine reboots for common Cluster Shared Volumes members.

I am having a problem where my VMs are rebooting while other VMs that share the same CSV are being backed up. I have provided all the information that I have gather to this point below. If I have missed anything, please let me know.
    My HyperV Cluster configuration:
5 Node Cluster running 2008R2 Core DataCenter w/SP1. All updates as released by WSUS that will install on a Core installation
Each Node has 8 NICs configured as follows:
     NIC1 - Management/Campus access (26.x VLAN)
     NIC2 - iSCSI dedicated (22.x VLAN)
     NIC3 - Live Migration (28.x VLAN)
     NIC4 - Heartbeat (20.x VLAN)
     NIC5 - VSwitch (26.x VLAN)
     NIC6 - VSwitch (18.x VLAN)
     NIC7 - VSwitch (27.x VLAN)
     NIC8 - VSwitch (22.x VLAN)

KB2639032 - Installed during troubleshooting in early Jan2013
Original cluster build was two hosts with quorum drive. Initial two hosts were HST1 and HST5
Next host added was HST3, then HST6 and finally HST2.
NOTE: HST4 hardware was used in different project and HST6 will eventually become HST4
Validation of cluster comes with warning for following things:
     Updates inconsistent across hosts
I have tried to manually install "missing" updates and they were not applicable
Most likely cause is different build times for each machine in cluster
HST1 and HST5 are both the same level because they were built at same time
HST3 was not rebuilt from scratch due to time constraints and it actually goes back to Pre-SP1 and has a larger list of updates that others are lacking and hence the inconsistency
HST6 was built from scratch but has more updates missing than 1 or 5 (10 missing instead of 7)
HST2 was most recently built and it has the most missing updates (15)
Storage - List Potential Cluster Disks
It says there are Persistent Reservations on all 14 of my CSV volumes and thinks they are from another cluster.
They are removed from the validation set for this reason. These iSCSI volumes/disks were all created new for
this cluster and have never been a part of any other cluster.
When I run the Cluster Validation wizard, I get a slew of Event ID 5120 from FailoverClustering. Wording of error:
Cluster Shared Volume 'Volume12' ('Cluster Disk 13') is no longer available on this node because of
'STATUS_MEDIA_WRITE_PROTECTED(c00000a2)'. All I/O will temporarily be queued until a path to the
      volume is reestablished.
Under Storage and Cluster Shared VOlumes in Failover Cluster Manager, all disks show online and there is no negative effect of the errors.
    Cluster Shared Volumes
We have 14 CSVs that are all iSCSI attached to all 5 hosts. They are housed on an HP P4500G2 (LeftHand) SAN.
I have limited the number of VMs to no more than 7 per CSV as per best practices documentation from HP/Lefthand
VMs in each CSV are spread out amonst all 5 hosts (as you would expect)
Backup software we use is BackupChain from BackupChain.com.
    Problem we are having:
When backup kicks off for a VM, all VMs on same CSV reboot without warning. This normally happens within seconds of the backup starting
What have to done to troubleshoot this:
We have tried rebalancing our backups
Originally, I had backup jobs scheduled to kick off on Friday or Saturday evening after 9pm
2 or 3 hosts would be backing up VMs (Serially; one VM per host at a time) each night.
I changed my backup scheduled so that of my 90 VMs, only one per CSV is backing up at the same time
I mapped out my Hosts and CSVs and scheduled my backups to run on week nights where each night, there
is only one VM backed up per CSV. All VMs can be backed up over 5 nights (there are some VMs that don't
get backed up). I also staggered the start times for each Host so that only one Host would be starting
in the same timeframe. There was some overlap for Hosts that had backups that ran longer than 1 hour.
Testing this new schedule did not fix my problem. It only made it more clear. As each backup timeframe
started, whichever CSV the first VM to start was on would have all of their VMs reboot and come back up.
I then thought maybe I was overloading the network still so I decided to disable all of the scheduled backup
and run it manually. Kicking off a backup on a single VM, in most cases, will cause the reboot of common
     CSV members.
Ok, maybe there is something wrong with my backup software.
Downloaded a Demo of Veeam and installed it onto my cluster.
Did a test backup of one VM and I had not problems.
Did a test backup of a second VM and I had the same problem. All VMs on same CSV rebooted
Ok, it is not my backup software. Apparently it is VSS. I have looked through various websites. The best troubleshooting
site I have found for VSS in one place it on BackupChain.com (http://backupchain.com/hyper-v-backup/Troubleshooting.html)
I have tested almost every process on there list and I will lay out results below:
      1. I have rebooted HST6 and problems still persist
      2. When I run VSSADMIN delete shadows /all, I have no shadows to delete on any of my 5 nodes
When I run VSSADMIN list writers, I have no error messages on any writers on any node...
      3. When I check the listed registry key, I only have the build in MS VSS writer listed (I am using software VSS)
      4. When I run VSSADMIN Resize ShadowStorge command, there is no shadow storage on any node
      5. I have completed the registration and service cycling on HST6 as laid out here and most of the stuff "errors"
Only a few of the DLL's actually register.
      6. HyperV Integration Services were reconciled when I worked with MS in early January and I have no indication of
       further issue here.
      7. I did not complete the step to delete the Subscriptions because, again, I have no error messages when I list writers
      8. I removed the Veeam software that I had installed to test (it hadn't added any VSS Writer anyway though)
      9. I can't realistically uninstall my HyperV and test VSS
      10. Already have latest SPs and Updates
      11. This is part of step 5 so I already did this. This seems to be a rehash of various other stratgies
I have used the VSS Troubleshooter that is part of BackupChain (Ctrl-T) and I get the following error:
ERROR: Selected writer 'Microsoft Hyper-V VSS Writer' is in failed state!
      - Status: 8 (VSS_WS_FAILED_AT_PREPARE_SNAPSHOT)
      - Writer Failure code: 0x800423f0 (<Unknown error code>)
      - Writer ID: {66841cd4-6ded-4f4b-8f17-fd23f8ddc3de}

VSS snapshot creation failed with result: 8000FFFF
VSS errors in event viewer. Below are representative errors I have received from various Nodes of my cluster:
I have various of the below spread out over all hosts except for HST6
Source: VolSnap, Event ID 10, The shadow copy of volume took too long to install
Source: VolSnap, Event ID 16, The shadow copies of volume x were aborted because volume y, which contains shadow copy storage for this shadow copy, wa force dismounted.
Source: VolSnap, Event ID 27, The shadow copies of volume x were aborted during detection because a critical control file could not be opened.
I only have one instance of each of these and both of the below are from HST3
Source: VSS, Event ID 12293, Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Error calling a routine on a Shadow Copy Provider {b5946137-7b9f-4925-af80-51abd60b20d5}. Routine details RevertToSnashot [hr = 0x80042302, A Volume Shadow Copy Service component encountered an
    unexpected error.
Source: VSS, Event ID 8193, Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine GetOverlappedResult.  hr = 0x80070057, The parameter is incorrect.
So, basically, everything I have tried has resulted in no success towards solving this problem.
I would appreciate anything assistance that can be provided.

    Tim,
Thanks for the reply. I ran the first two commands and got this:
    Name
    Role Metric
    Cluster Network 1
    3  10000
    Cluster Network 2 - HeartBeat                              1   1300
    Cluster Network 3 - iSCSI                                    0  10100
    Cluster Network 4 - LiveMigration                         1   1200
When you look at the properties of each network, this is how I have it configured:
Cluster Network 1 - Allow cluster network communications on this network and Allow clients to connect through this network (26.x subnet)
Cluster Network 2 - Allow cluster network communications on this network. New network added while working with Microsoft support last month. (28.x subnet)
Cluster Network 3 - Do not allow cluster network communications on this network. (22.x subnet)
Cluster Network 4 - Allow cluster network communications on this network. Existing but not configured to be used by VMs for Live Migration until MS corrected. (20.x subnet)
Should I modify my metrics further or are the current values sufficient.
I worked with an MS support rep because my cluster (once I added the 5th host) stopped being able to live migrate VMs and I had VMs host jumping on startup. It was a mess for a couple of days. They had me add the Heartbeat network as part of the solution
to my problem. There doesn't seem to be anywhere to configure a network specifically for CSV so I would assume it would use (based on my metrics above) Cluster Network 4 and then Cluster Network 2 for CSV communications and would fail back to the Cluster Network
    1 if both 2 and 4 were down/inaccessible.
As to the iSCSI getting a second NIC, I would love to but management wants separation of our VMs by subnet and role and hence why I need the 4 VSwitch NICs. I would have to look at adding an additional quad port NIC to my servers and I would be having to
use half height cards for 2 of my 5 servers for that to work.
But, on that note, it doesn't appear to actually be a bandwidth issue. I can run a backup for a single VM and get nothing on the network card (It caused the reboots before any real data has even started to pass apparently) and still the problem occurs.
As to Backup Chain, I have been working with the vendor and they are telling my the issue is with VSS. They also say they support CSV as well. If you go to this page (http://backupchain.com/Hyper-V-Backup-Software.html)
they say they support CSVs. Their tech support has been very helpful but unfortunately, nothing has fixed the problem.
What is annoying is that every backup doesn't cause a problem. I have a daily backup of one of our machines that runs fine without initiating any additional reboots. But most every other backup job will trigger the VMs on the common CSV to reboot.
I understood about the updates but I had to "prove" it to the MS tech I was on the phone with and hence I brought it up. I understand on the storage as well. Why give a warning for something that is working though... I think that is just a poor indicator
that it doesn't explain that in the report.
At a loss for what else I can do,
    Charles J. Palmer
