I have to develop an web application....what i mean to say is the client can upload n number of text files from their system at a time.Those files have to be process fastly and produce output there itself...how can i do plz give me some idea..

Cannot work with two client side applications at the same time!!

Hi guys,
I developed two client side applications(applets). Locate the on Apache/Tomcat. There is also a Index.html file with two links, so when user clicks on each link the associated application will downloaded on his PC and ready to work. (In index.html I used window.open(�) to load the applications)
Now please see this scenario:
1-I ran/loaded both application in two separate browsers(IE5.5). And tried to work with them(minimized one and work with another). Soon I faced unexpected frizzing/locking or very slow running on both applications.
2-Then closed/killed one of them(killed IE). Then re-executed same application again. The application loaded with the last activated screen . Seems it never killed and it was still alive.
3- The only way to successfully working is one by one.
means execute & work with one, then kill that, and then execute and work with another.
To Debug:
When both applications were running(each on it�s own IE), I opened the Task Manager and saw there was only one IEXPLORER.EXE was running, also there was only one Java VM (a small bird icon) on right-bottom of the screen.
I believe this causes the problem. seems they both running in the same session. Since I opened two applications in two IE I was expected to see two IEXPLORER.EXE with two JVM. Am I right? Do you think so?
Any way, Now I am seeking to find the solution. My primary mind says probably I should not use window.open(..) in index.html to load the applications.
Would appreciate any command on this.

Deploying JAX-RPC Client for client-side application

I have a java Swing client side application that I am attempting to integrate web services capabilities into. The web services were already written (new to web services myself), I am just calling them. Using Oracle's JDeveloper I managed to create proxies for the web services and to call them just fine, once I added the JAX-RPC Client library to my project.
My only issue is how to deploy. Again within the development environment all works perfectly. I tried references to all the jar files identified by the Oracle JAX-RPC Client library to know luck. I've referenced other jar files I use for deployment with no issues.
Anyone created standalone applciations before that call web services? How did you deploy the web service related libraries.
I'm using JDeveloper 10.1.3.3.0 with Java 1.5.0_06.

I found a solution, but it shouldn't have been that difficult. JDeveloper provides a view of what JARs are part of a library. I used that as a starting point of what JARs might be required for my instance. I switched to linking to the individual JARs within their JDeveloper installed locations directly instead of the single library. I then systematically starting removing them one-by-one from my list to determine which were actually being used in my implementation. I did this because there were way too many to deploy. Once that was done I created a separate directory for holding the required JARs files local to my application.
Lastly, I had to take care of any internal references within the JARs that may link to other JAR files. So I opened each JAR and looked at its manifest and copied those files over. Then I repeated the steps of deternmining if they were really necessary and copying over other internal references until I had the complete list.
In the end I ended up with a considerable smaller list of JARs then if I had just assumed all JARs within the library and their references. However, it was much more difficult then it needed to be.

Launching client side application

Is there a way to launch an external application on a clients machine from an applet in a browser? I've been searching all over the internet with no luck...any help would be greatly appreciated

Error running a client side program through the worklist app

I am trying to run a simple client side application (actually just a command script
that does a pause). I construct a send xml to client with a "call-program" message
with attributes of name="c:\testscript" and mode of async.

The reason I asked about the computer OS was in case you needed to do a clean install of iTunes. It works differently on the Mac computer than on Windows. A complete uninstall and reinstall on a Windows computer requires you to follow specific instructions in a support document, while on a Mac, I have read you just have to reinstall over the old one.
I'm not sure if installing/updating to iTunes 11 would be the same on Windows or not, but since you report using a Mac, then it is probably a mute point. Good luck.

Fixing of client side package error..!!

I am having a scenario like below ....
pkg2 is called by pkg1.
pkg2 is called by pkg4.
pkg2 is called by pkg3 also but from client side.
now if i do change in pkg2 then pkg1,3,4 will be in invalid state till then i again recomplie all them.in this case client side application which is working on pkg3 will be fail bcoz pkg 3 is in invalid sate.
but i need that if i do any change in pkg2 then my pkg3 which is in client side sholud not be affexted.Mean to say there should be no affect on client side pkg if i make any change in pkg2.
how i can achieve it.

What about the use of Java EE technologies on client-side ? The Java EE 5 specification lists different technologies: servlet, JSP, JSF, EJB, JTA, JDBC, JPA, JMS, JNDI, JavaMail, XML processing, JCA, JAAS, web services, JMX...
Almost all of them are used on the server side. What about building applications on the client side ?
Is Sun thinking too much hardware these days ? Why is that most of the products come out of 3rd party vendors like apache for instance ?

There's your fundamental problem... We KNOW from bitter experience that rich client app are NOT scalable. The world simply doesn't work that way.
Architecture starts from the foundations and works up. Computer systems achitectures start from the server and work out... We're just not out there yet dude.
My crystal ball says that within 20 years computers will be sooooo freeken fast that "scalable" really won't be an issue any longer, except for worldwide realtime massive transaction rate systems (like VR role playing games)... so enterprise solutions will naturally migrate back towards the desktop.
In the meantime the kids are having fun on the desktop and us "boring backend people" collect $40 million dollars in twenty minutes with rock-solid server-side solutions. Horses for courses. Watch for pitch reports.

Enabling client side conflict handling after download of application

Hello,
we got a custom MI-Application in which we do conflict handling in the mobile application.
Now that we have over a hundred productive clients, we discovered that for many (not all) of the clients, the application level conflict handling is not enabled.
This seems to be due to the fact that the download (and install) of the application has been done while the setting for conflict handling was set to "Framework" instead of "Application".
The merepMeta.xml file however does contain the setting.
Is it possible and if yes how, to enable the application level conflict handling after installation?

Hi Niels,
so I am confused. Lets first clarify if we talk about the same feature. The config handling I have in mind will be configured in MEREP_PD - Synchronizer Tab. There you have the settings available in the last column for each syncBO. One of the settings is called: SKIP_CONFLICT. By default it is not set, so the conflict handling takes place in the server and if the data was changed on Backend and client after the last sync, it throws an error.
To change this behaviour, you set the X into the colum in the SKIP_CONFLICT line and after that the middleware will handle the conflict and send the data through even it was changed on both sides.
Is this the thing we talk about? So what do you mean with MCD then? This handling has no setting in MCD and it should be independend from MEREPSBUILDEr.
Oh - I see now where it is stored... This value is does not get a reset with Client data reset - it comes from the MCD - no, sorry, in that case you need to uninstall and reinstall the App to get the value active on these devices. Sorry, but this is based on where the value is stored, there is not another way to reset that value unfortunately that I am aware of.

For required fields, just don't allow the user to continue unless getText() on the field returns appropriate data.

How to generate rule log on client side

I am looking for a solution where I could generate a rule log and make it available on client side. I know generating a log during consolidation and save it on server. However, I want to make it available on client side.
I have created four scenarios in HFM application, namely -
1. ACTUAL_REPORTING - To capture TB data and use it for reporting
2. ACTUAL_ICP - To capture ICP data and run custom business rule as per requirement
3. ACTUAL_ADDINPUT - To capture additional memorandum inputs
During consolidation,data is copied from ACTUAL_ICP and ACTUAL_ADDINPUT to ACTUAL_REPORTING. However, problem is that user should consolidate ACTUAL_ICP AND ACTUAL_ADDINPUT scenarios first. If they miss executing the consolidation in these scenarios, then the data copied would be wrong. Just as to ensure this, there's a provision is HFM to check calculation status in rule file and looking at that, calcuation could be stopped and a message could be sent to the user. But delimma is, how to report the same on the user side.
Possible solution that I could have thought are -
1. To generate a rule log and post the same to the client, but how to do this? As path of the rule log could be of the server only (that is C:\Hyperion\Logs\Rule)
2. To generate a rule log and pop a web page terminating consolidation, but how to do this?
3. To raise an error from the rule file and direct it to the system messages, but how to to this?
Please advice and any further clarification is required please contact me.

You can define the output folder as a share, which has already been mentioned. I strongly advise against implementing any solution that in production will regularly generate an external file.
1) The output file is generated by the DCOM user. If you want this user to generate a file in a specific location, it must be writeable by the DCOM user, and readable by the intended human user. Make sure both NTFS and share level permissions on the target file and its containing folder consider this. Latency for the file write can degrade performance.
2) Most HFM implementations have two or more HFM application servers. You have no control over which server will execute the file, and also no control over what happens if two or more servers try to write to the same file. You can create a process which causes HFM to become single threaded if every time Sub Calculate for any entity on any server needs to open a single file. This is because the file object is single threaded. It could be multi-threaded if you write out to a database, but certainly far more complex.
3) Wait state: while as in #2, this can single thread the process, and you have to consider whether your process will error out during moments when another process has access to the file, or if you will ignore that and simply proceed. This can have a significant impact on performance time if you decide to wait until the file becomes available.
While I have done implementations where the overall solution required combining data across multiple scenarios, I consistently find this a cumbersome, error-prone, and poorly performing approach. For this reason, I always try to keep all of the data required in a single scenario. This is one key reason why the "DataSource" or "DataType" (or whatever you call it) approach is so popular and successful.
Finally, you cannot write to the HFM system messages. You can, on the other hand, use Calc Manager to write out to a system log.

How can i load file into database from client-side to server-side

i want to upload file from client-side to server-side, i use the following code to load blob into database.
if the file is in the server-side, it can work, but if it in the client-side, it said that the system cannot find the file. i think it only will search the file is in the server-side or not, it will not search the client-side.
how can i solve it without upload the file to the server first, then load it into database??

Hi,
Without some more details of the configuration, its difficult to know
what's happening here. For example, what do you mean by client side
and server side, and where are you running the upload Java application?
If you always run the application on the database server system, but can't
open the file on a different machine, then it sounds like a file protection
problem that isn't really connected with the database at all. That is to
say, if the new FileInputStream (binaryFile) statement fails, then its not
really a database problem, but a file protection issue. On the other hand,
I can't explain what's happening if you run the program on the same machine
as the document file (client machine), but you can't write the data to the
server, assuming the JDBC connection string is set correctly to connect to
the appropriate database server.
If you can provide some more information, we'll try to help.

Problem in creating client side PDF with image using flex and AlivePD

I need a favor I am creating client side PDF with image using flex and AlivePDF for a web based application. Images have been generated on that pdf but it is creating problem for large size images as half of the image disappeared from that pdf.I am taking the image inside a canvas . How do i control my images so that they come fit on that pdf file for any image size that i take.

I am having a similar and more serious problem. It takes a
long time to execute, but even attaching a small image balloons the
pdf to 6MB plus. After a few images it gets up to 20MB. These are
100k jpeg files being attached. The resulting PDF is too large to
email or process effectively. Does anyone know how to reduce
size/processing?

How to copy a file from Client to Application Server

Hello,
My requirement is user selects a file from Browse button on oracle form - this location is on client side, and have to copy this file on Application server.
I tried using webutil_file.copy_file function but it gives error - copy_file is not a procedure or is undefined.
There is another way of Client_to_AS but it needs some changes in configuration files of webutil, which is not allowed in our scenario.
Source - client machine resident file
Target- Application server disk location
So can any one help in this regard?

Thanks for your suggestion, actually i didnt want to use Client_to_As as client doesnt want to make any changes in any configuration files, no matter how small the change is.
Anyways we are able to successfully copy the file using Client_to_AS, but one thing that i couldn't understand is why was our webutil_file.copy_file function failing?
Any hint about this?

Save report on client side in three tier architecture

We have a 3 tier 10g R2 Application server installed on Unix.
We want to generate and save report directly to a location on client machine.
But when we try to do that report is saved in server and not on client machine.
Can anyone help in this regard?

We are aware of this method, but this is causing following problems to us -
1. Report name concurrency, we will have to change existing coding to a large extent to make sure same report when generated by different users should have seperate names so that there is no conflict.
2. To transfer to client machine there can be access right issues, though we have not tested this aspect.
So was thinking if there is any other way through wich we can directly save the report on client side rather than transfering file between AS and client?
