Client trying to prepare DV project ahead of FCP edit with me

Hi,
I've tried to search for answers in the forum but I'm getting mixed up.
My client has several (number unknown) DV tapes he's shooting for a little six-minute community project he's doing. He would like to give me a preformatted project. I define this as an FCP project with th ability to identify and digitize into bins all of his designated takes.
He has a Power Mac G5.
What's he need without having FCP itself? FCE does not appear to be handy with digitizing and logging (from what I've read here.) iDive appears to be a revamp of Scene Stealer. (?) When all else fails I'll settle for hand written log notes. But how can he see tape TC in the most basic way with out a good DVCAM deck?

What might be good -- if YOU have the time...
Go ahead and capture his stuff, even in offline resolution, and overlay the timecode information. Then either give them back to him in QT format or just burn to a quick dvd.
However... I'm not sure of the programs you mentioned... but CatDV is another worth looking at.
I seem to remember bookmarking a site that had an even better logger... but that's at home now.
Anyway -- you can send him an edl in excel and he can type in the timecodes and then you just capture what he gives you (with handles!!!)

Can there be any external hard disks - if so How is/are it/they formatted ? Must be Mac OS Extended (hfs) if used for Video.
UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most but not for VIDEO.
What this means in Your situation is above me.
• free space on internal boot hard disk? How much ?
Video codec
• streamingDV, AIC etc. (not .avi, .mp4, .m4v, .wmv etc as they are containers not codecs)
Pictures
• in what format ? .jpg, .bmp, .tif, else ?
Audio
• from where/what format ? iTunes, .avi, .mp3, .aiff, else ?

I fixed the problem.. but it was very, very strange. I had a very long section for credits and set the line spacing to 1.0.. for some reason this caused it. I removed it, and it worked fine. I put it back, and I couldn't preview or play the video.
I don't know why that could cause that big of a problem, but it did..

You need more free space on your hard drive.

After phone support from apple I ended up creating a new project and adding all 117 clips back in individually till I found out what clips flagged and would not allow me to export. I had 3 I deleted and replaced and everything works now 1hr after tedious work....
Where do Your material come from
• Camera
• External hard disk
• USB-memory
And all are connected so that iMovie can find it ?

I've been trying to burn my projects in imovie to dvd's and i keep getting the forllowing error message "UNABLE TO PRPARE PROJECT FOR PUBLISHING"

Can you give more details? What exactly is the entire error message text? there should be an error number too. Are you trying to finalize this to an external disk?

Apple store couldn't help me and suggested I redo part of the project. It is a really good project and would take hours to redo it . I just want to export it. Can any one please help???

I have created a DVD via iMovie and burned several copies. When played the DVD's will stop and display a message SKIPPING DAMAGED Part. It is not the DVD. When trying to export the project, I get an error message.

TV video typically is copyrighted content. We'd be breaking several rules trying to help you. Good luck!

What's the URL of your site so we can examine it first hand? Also try publishing the site to a folder on your hard drive and use the free FTP client Cyberduck to upload your site. It's been known to work when iWeb's ftp client has failed.

Is there a way by which I can preserve my work done on DV PAL and switch it preserving its proportions, scale and orientation, but on a HD project sequence?? Appreciate your help and advice..

Yes. A couple of ways that might work.
First Way
What you need to do is load one of your hd clips in the viewer and edit into a new HD sequence. Does it display correctionly?
OK, select the clip in the hd timeline and copy (command-c). Now go to the HD sequence with the material that's distorted. Select all (command-a) and paste attributes (option-v) and choose basic motion and distort. That should maek things work. What won't work is anything that you've adjusted as far as basic motion or distort in your PAL sequence. That I'm pretty sure you'll have to redo.
Second Way.
Choose your original PAL sequence and do a Media Manage changing the sequence preset to the appropriate HD paramenters with the media offline. You then should be able to reconnect these clips with your original HD media.

Why are you trying to import BPM zip file are you trying to configure the out of the box workflows?
They are something that need to be deployed from the process admin on BPM.
There would be the .exp file you would need as its BPM 10g that you would need to use.

Help - PPro hangs when trying to open a project

The project was working fine earlier today. I haven't changed the drive letters involved, and the autosave files also hang it. I've tried importing the project into a new project, as well as copying the proj file somewhere else, renaming the folder with all the footage in it, and opening that. What happens in all cases is Prem loads and gives me the "recent projects" panel. (My project was in this, but then I did a system restore in case that would fix it, and it hasn't - all that seems to have happens is that Prem has lost its recent history.) I open the project. The progress bar gets to about 75% of the way within a second or two, then hangs. The amount of memory Prem is using doesn't increase in the task manager, CPU usage is nowhere near 100%, etc. I've defragged the disks (they didn't really need it anyway) and the registry (which did need it) and that doesn't seem to have done anything.
I've also tried opening the prproj file in XML Wrench and fixing it for valid XML, but it found no errors. The file itself is only about 4Mb, and not particularly complex - just AVI files and images with scale, position etc keyframes on them.
I just tried importing the project into a new one, but instead of importing all sequences I chose "selected sequences". I got the message "An Adobe Dynamic Link error occurred".
Finally I've just managed to open the project in AE, with no fussing, although all the footage items are missing and when I use Replace Footage, this doesn't seem to do anything!!!!! Ctrl-H, locate the file, click on it - at this point AE would usually find the other 200 or whatever missing items - but it doesn't even find the one I've just clicked on! They're there on the disk, I can preview them from windows explorer.
AAARGH! Anyone got any ideas about anything else I could try, or is this "just one of those things"? Obviously, this has a deadline of, er, tomorrow morning. If I lose it and hurl the whole thing through a window I might post pics, I think they'd be therapeutic.....

Connected the external drive to it, tried to load the project (the ext drive it's on comes up as the M drive, not H, as there's a CD drive on H already which I can't figure out how to get rid of - disabling all CD drives in Device Manager doesn't seem to do it). To assign, change, or remove a drive letter
Using the Windows interface
Open Computer Management (Local).
In the console tree, click Disk Management.Where?

Right-click a partition, logical drive, or volume, and then click Change Drive Letter and Paths.
Do one of the following:
To assign a drive letter, click Add, click the drive letter you want to use, and then click OK.

To remove a drive letter, click it, and then click Remove.
Important
Be careful when making drive-letter assignments because many MS-DOS and Windows programs make references to a specific drive letter. For example, the path environment variable shows specific drive letters in conjunction with program names.

A computer can use up to 26 drive letters. Drive letters A and B are reserved for floppy disk drives, but you can assign these letters to removable drives if the computer does not have a floppy disk drive. You cannot change the drive letter of the system volume or boot volume.
An error message may appear when you attempt to assign a letter to a volume, CD-ROM drive, or other removable media device, possibly because it is in use by a program in the system. Windows 2000 and Windows XP allow the static assignment of drive letters on volumes, partitions, and CD-ROM drives. This means that you permanently assign a drive letter to a specific partition, volume, or CD-ROM drive. When you add a new hard disk to an existing computer system, it will not affect statically assigned drive letters.
You can also mount a local drive at an empty folder on an NTFS volume using a drive path instead of a drive letter. For more information, click Related Topics.
You can re-assign the drive letter for the DVD burners and then assign the appropriate drive letter to match what your Project expects.
I swap machines a lot with Projects, and have each external's drive letter assignment the same on all computers.

Use View > View Options, and set 'Sort By" to "Manual Order."
Then you will be able to drag-n-drop songs up and down the list.

Error while trying to open a project I made on my computer/file format new

I am trying to open a project I made in June in FC. It is loading about 33% then a message comes up:
FILE'S FORMAT is TOO NEW FOR THE APPLICATION. Why is that? WHat should I do? It was made in my FCP on my computer.

Look in the Finder or at the FCP startup screen to find out.

Error -34 and error -50 message while preparing a project for iDVD

I keep getting an error -34 and and error -50 message when I try to prepare a project for sharing in iMovie. Does anyone know why this might be please?
I managed to create a DVD before with this project but then went back in and changed some of the text clips to centred as they were not showing up when I played it on my TV (they were partially hidden - but that's another question!)
I also got a message that there was not enough space on the disc although it was only 1 hr 13 mins and the DVD-R disc is 120 mins.

Memory is RAM and should not be confused with hard drive space.
Open any Finder window and you will at the bottom of the window hor much free space you have. Less that about 20GB and you may have troubles.
As you have an external hard drive (and assuming that this is not also full!) move files and documents etc to that, but keep your application on the internal startup drive.

You can't get 4 hours of video on one DVD. Even on a dual-layer DVD that will be difficult.

I have Encore CS4 operating on Windows 8 64 bit. I tried to save a project and received the following message: Error loading transcode preset Internal/Blu-ray NTSC SD MPEG-2. The project is to be a DVD not BLU-ray. I opened the original project as administrator....help

Yes, it let me create a project. The error came when I tried to save...not save as...also came when I went to build the DVD. It always saves before it begins to build and the same error message came up again. It is a very simple DVD...no menus....just a plug and play. It is a thearter performance that was shot and then edited in Pro and opening titles and credits added. The thought is that the DVD would be put into the player and the timeline begins to play from the opening titles to the end credits...nothing fancy......

Some users notice on exporting larger projects from within iMovie that this operation is aborted with an 'error -49'
This issue occours only on MacOs machines using 10.7x
try switching-off the Local Mobile Backup
in Terminal copy/paste
