Clipboard and OS X

I have an applet where I want to enable copy/paste to the clipboard. On windows (jre1.3.1 plugin) I just added a line to the java.policy file enabling clipboard access:
permission java.awt.AWTPermission "accessClipboard";
This allowed me to copy and paste with control-c and control-v. I did not write any special code to access the clipboard.
I can't get the same code to work in MacOS 10.1. I altered the java.policy file same as in windows but when I do a control-c or control-v nothing happens ( same with command-c or v).
Anyone know how to enable clipboard access in OSX? Do I need to write code to explicitly access the clipboard even with a simple control-c and control-v?
thanks
John

don't the Mac comps use the little curly-cue thingy -c and little curly-cue thingy -v instead of ctrl c and ctrl vYes. Its called the command key. Doesn't work for me when I run an applet. If I run the same code as an application it works so there shouldn't be a problem with the key combinations I am using.
We have an applet (NOT an application) originally written/run with jdk1.1.8. Copy/paste worked fine. When we changed to jdk1.2 (and 1.3.1) copy/paste would not work. To fix this on windows we just had to alter the java.policy file granting permission to use the clipboard. Recently, when we tried the same applet on OSX. It would not work even if we altered the security policy. Note, when I run this as an application on OSX it works just fine.
I came across a press release from apple about bug fixes for OS X and one of them included: "...Fixes a security issue that permitted unauthorized applets access to the system clipboard." www.apple.com/support/security/security_updates.html
I'm wondering if only signed applets are allowed access to the system clipboard in OS X.
Also, why did you have to add extra code to access the clipboard?The extra code I am talking about is out of the Core Java 2 Volume 2 book and can also be seen here: developer.java.sun.com/developer/TechTips/1999/tt0414.html
It accesses the system clipboard with:
Clipboard cb =Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getSystemClipboard();
Then read/write to it.

      1 . try to export the table dato to excel sheet.(copy and paste to excel)
       2. Importing the excel data to WD table.
      for more details about reading excel data, there is many blog on sdn just check it.

  • Sharing clipboard and pasteboard between Wireshark(X11) and Mac OSX

    I installed latest Wireshark for Mac version. However, it is interesting that I cannot copy what I have copied in Wireshark and the paste it in my Mac any editor. The reverse direction is also the same. If I have any wireshark filter I would like to apply to Wireshark, it is also not allowed.
    I learned that it is because the X11 clipboard and pasteboard are different from Mac OSX.
    Do you know if there is any available workaround configuration I can do so as to allow them to share?

    By checking through Apple
    Discussion Forum, I fixed the problem by below procedure:
    1. Delete any ".X" file in your home directory, such as ".Xauthority", in my
    case
    - It will be automatically recreated
    2. Delete "org.x.X11.plist" in ~/Library/Preferences
    - It will be automatically recreated
    3. Moving the .wireshark and .wireshark-etc to other name
    When I open wireshark again, it would like a program having just newly
    installed and start over again.
    Then I can copy and paste the content between Wireshark packet-capture and
    editor in MacOS.

  • Where Photoshop CS6 exports the clipboard and how to delete it

    Hello, I have a problem with Photoshop CS6. I made one big file (350x300cm) and I worked a long on it. When closed Photoshop I saw a message "Exporting clipboard" and it was very slow operation. Then, when I looked to my D part of Hard disc it was 2-3 GB less. On the next day, after work with the file - my D part was 1 GB less. Where Photoshop export clipboard? How to free up the space? I saved the file in C part of hard drive and C is scratch disc, Photoshop and my OS are installed on C, so why from D disappear space? Can you help me to bring back these lost space? I can't see any new files to delete. Where are this exported?
    I am working on Windows 8 64-bit.

    When Photoshop "exports the clipboard" it puts the contents of the separate Photoshop clipboard on the operating system clipboard. You can purge it by going to a text-based application, selecting a single character and and pressing Ctrl+C. A search of your drives for *.tmp (and delete found files) should get you some of that disk space back.
    While Photoshop is running, you can purge the Photoshop clipboard by choosing Edit > Purrge > Clipboard (or All).
    To prevent clipboard export every time Photoshop shuts down, deselect Export Clipboard in Preferences > General.

  • Why each time I try to save my day's work,version WITH mark-ups and version w/o, does it say "you have placed a large amount of text on clipboard do you want to access this? What is clipboard and how can I just save my work in its proper file?

    I don't get this clipboard thing! I have created two files, one for the MS with mark-ups, and one for the unmarred version, each living in their own spot in my "house." It seems to be merging the two versions and I have to go in and re-paste and then it always says "you have placed a large amount of text on clipboard do you want to be able to access this?" and it prompts me to say no but I am afraid I'll lose my day's work so I just tap cancel. I highlight the day's revision and select "copy" to paste into the unmarked doc. before I save on the marked up or working doc. It is when I try to close that one that the clipboard issue pops up. What can you tell be about saving doc. in two places and how to NOT get it on clipboard? Thanks! I am not super computer savvy so layperson's language much appreciated!

    Are you using Microsoft word?  Microsoft thinks the users are idiots. They put up a lot of pointless messages that annoy & worry users.  I have seen this message from Microsoft word.  It's annoying.
    As BDaqua points out...
    When you copy information via edit > copy,  command + c, edit > cut, or command +x, you place the information on the clipboard. When you paste information, edit > paste or command + v, you copy information from the clipboard to your data file.
    If you edit > cut or command + x and you do not paste the information and you quite Word, you could be loosing information.  Microsoft is very worried about this. When you quite Word, Microsoft checks if there is information on the clipboard & if so, Microsoft puts out this message.
    You should be saving your work more than once a day. I'd save every 5 minutes.  command + s does a save.

  • HOW TO - Create new from clipboard and process multiple files - please help

    Need help - have new version of photoshop on trial only ATM...
    Want to know - HOW TO:
    1. Create new from clipbaord
    2. Process multiple files
    Please help.

    For clipboard copy, I start with File > New and the size will be set to what's in the clipboard. Then once the new file is opened, Edit > Paste will place the clipboard contents as a layer in the new document.
    You must remember to use the command Layer > Flatten Image of you want to save as jpeg or any other file format that doesn't support layers.
    For processing multiple files,
    File > Automate > Batch or
    File > Scripts > Image Processor...
    Check the User guide or google information for those commands if you have specific needs.

  • How to clear the clipboard and empty drawings ?

    Similar question has been in the Sketch Forum for half a year already, with no satisfying answer...
    My clipboard is becoming an extremely messy merry-go-round. Isn't there even some kind of hack ?
    And how can I delete cleared or empty drawings from a project (so not the whole project itself) ?
    I can't copy or move drawings from one drawing to another, without turning it into a 'flat' image.

    There is no way to clear the clipboard. It just has a fixed set of clippings that get recycled through. In addition to the merry-go-round view, there is also a grid view (tap the grid icon in the top left), which can be more convenient to look at if you have a lot of clippings. You can also choose to view just your "favorited" clippings instead of all your clippings (tap the star icon in the top right).
    As for deleting drawings from a project, tap the edit button on a project (pencil icon in the top right of the project header), and tap the drawings you want to delete. Once some drawings are selected, tap the trash icon to delete those drawings. Be aware that this action is not undoable once you choose OK in the confirmation alert dialog.
    Unfortunately, copying and moving drawings from one project to another is not supported. However, that and other organizer enhancements are on our roadmap.
    Hope that helps,
    Frank

  • Clipboard and Mozilla Thunderbird

    I can't create a Transrerable object, using text/html, that Thunderbird composer can read. If I copy somethng from the Thunderbird composer, run the following lines
    Toolkit tk = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit();
    Clipboard cb = tk.getSystemClipboard();
    cb.setContents(cb.getContents(null), null);
    and tries to past it back in the composer, nothing happens. (Paste whithout formatting, however, works). It's no problem to paste to Word, Excell och Outlook.

    For a while I was using Entourage but decided to move
    to Mozilla Thunderbird and it's been ok but now I
    want to move all my email address's and all the
    folders where I store email back to Entourage.
    Someone was kind enough to inform me on how to get
    them from Entourage to T'Bird but now the question is
    how to get them back as I had deleted them in
    Entourage once I had them in T-Bird and over time
    more have been created. Any help would be greatly
    appreciated.
    Also, if Entourage won't automatically import the messages, there is probably an Export option on Thunderbird. I am afraid a Microsoft forum might not be much help and you may have to start with a Thunderbird forum first.

  • Why iphones dont have clipboards and attachments in their email apps?

    Two things i dont like in iphones and ipads are that they dont auto fill or have clipboards as samsungs neither can one attach a photo or document via the email app! This seems rediculous for even the less famous and leas expensive smartphones can do these easily!!!! APPLEEEEEEE come on do itttt!!! This is a shame for a GIANT like APPLE

    You can add a photofrom within the Mail app by tapping and holding the body of the message and selecting Insert photo or video.
    Documents can be attached by opening the document, tapping the share icon and selecting Mail.

  • Adobe photoshop clipboard and customer support.

    What does this error message mean and how do I deal with it?
    “Could not import the clipboard because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered”
    Also, why when adobe customer support gives you space to submit a question and you type in your question and submit it, does it bring you to this page where you have to retype your question? Why isn't Adobe customer support more user friendly??

    Hi Barb. Thanks for replying. I suspected I was in a customer forum, even though I was searching for Adobe support and everything I read on page I looked at gave me the impression I was contacting the company. I am using Adobe Photoshop Elements 6, and every so often I get these weird error messages that I don't understand. Using the Photoshop "help" link in the program is pointless. If you try the search engine, you can't even get anything to come up by searching things like "scratch discs" or "clipboard".  I have tried to copy and paste from other images I have opened and that still works, but I still cannot import my captions. And I don't know how to clear the clipboard or even how to access it. I finally shut down the program, uninstalled it and reinstalled it and started over. It was the only way I could figure out to get things working again. Thanks for your help.

  • How to read mutiple excel columns from clipboard and populate table control

    Hi All,
    I have a requirement to populate two columns in table control from excel using clipboard. (Copy two columns from excel and then, click on a button on the screen and table control's two columns should be filled).
    I am using FM CLPB_IMPORT to get clipboard values.
    eg: I am getting clipboard values as        val1#val2
                                                                     val3#val4
    where each row is a row in excel and # indicates the columns.
    The problem here is that I am not able to split val1 and val2 using the SPLIT statement using # character.
    Any ideas will be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Arun Mohan

    Hi,
    Try suing the below code instead of "#" in the SPLIT statement.
    CL_ABAP_CHAR_UTILITIES=>HORIZONTAL_TAB.

    I tried command and control keys without any luck. I'm wondering if there is another policy file, maybe the one I altered is not being used by the browser. I altered:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.3.1/Home/lib/security/java.policy
    A search of the system did not reveal any other java.policy files.

  • N8 Clipboard and User Guide

    I've just discovered by accident that you can highlight text in a text message which then comes up with a note saying "copy".  If you click on "copy" it then says "text copied to clipboard".
    What is the clipboard, what does it do and where is it because once again the user guide in the phone is worse than useless and brings up "no Matches"! when trying to find info on this clipboard thing!
    On a separate issue what is the point of the user guide as it really is useless; I even typed "bluetooth" in the other day and guess what - "no matches" !!

    Clipboard is just the term used to say it has been copied into memory and can be used in other app, by selecting paste.
    In messaging and email, select the 3 line icon and paste. In notes and quick office it's edit and paste.
    There is far more help available online by choosing "Product Support" at the top of this page.

  • Clipboard and Linux

    I'm having some problems writing a String to the System clipboard. Here was my original code:
    Clipbaord clip = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getSystemClipboard();
    if(name.equals("copyPass")){
    int index = mdl.getMinSelectionIndex();
    String temp=((PassInfo)data.get(index)).getPassword();
    System.out.println("now copying " + temp);
    StringSelection ss = new StringSelection(temp);
    try{
    clip.setContents(ss,this);
    }catch(Exception err){
    System.out.println(e.toString() + "\nError!!!!!!");
    The System.out.println statement prints the String properly, so the String is definitely not null, but the String never gets copied to the clipboard.
    So I created a little sample code to see if I could get it to work another way:
    import java.awt.datatransfer.*;
    import java.awt.Toolkit;
    public class ClipboardTest{
    public static void main(String junk[]){
    StringSelection ss = new StringSelection("junk");
    Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getSystemClipboard().setContents(ss, null);
    System.out.println("done");
    This also did not copy the specified String to the clipboard.
    I ran the above code on a Windows machine and it worked without a problem.
    The Linux box is a Fedora Core 1 install, with Gnome 2.4 (and Metacity as the window manager) and I'm running version 1.4.2_03 of Sun's SDK and the other machine is a Win2k pro machine running version 1.3.1.
    Can anyone spot where I went wrong? Or recreate the problem where they are?
    This has also been posted in the AWT forum
    Thanks!
