Clipboard images converting to RGB

When I "copy merged", create a new file and paste the contents into it, I see my new image is RGB instead of the Adobe RGB from the original image. I must have a preference setting wrong somewhere?
When I use the Duplicate command, the color space stays the same, but I don't always want to create a saved file on the hard drive for the second image.

First setup color management so that colors get converted the way you want them to.
But there will still be colors that can't be converted in a way you would expect them to. For instance 100 K won't be converted to RGB 000.
You don't need to convert to RGB at all. Just do a Save for Web and Devices and save as PNG. This will be in RGB.
If you need to get certain colors you would have to convert the file using File > Document Color mode and after that perhaps Edit > Edit Colors > Recolor Art to Assign the colors.

  • Attached images convert to RGB.

I've been trying to send an layered psd image as an attachment using Mail. The image is required to be CMYK and has been created and saved that way - but once attached to the email i'm composing it somehow converts to RGB. I've confirmed with the recipient that it also arrives as RGB. Is there a preference i can turn off to stop Mail messing with the files i'm trying to send?

Thanks Roger. That's exactly what i've done as a "work around". Just thought there might be a more tidier solution.

  • To convert an rgb image to 8 bit grayscale

    Hey,
I need to convert an rgb image to 8 bit grayscale image as the image is being acquired, im using the imaq create VI, which has an 'image type' terminal which allows the choice of image to be selected.however this isnt working. any solutions?
    also
Im trying to make a image constant for the imaq subtraction VI, so the this constant image is subtracted from each image as its acquired.what would be the easiest way of doing this, without having the user specify the same image path each time? thanks.

Not sure what you mean by extracting a plane?
Here is a VI that will convert an image to 8-Bit.  This paired with the grayscale one will get the desired result.  See example.vi below.  Order that they are applied does give slightly different results.

  • Convert Colors RGB to CMYK something i don't understand.

    Hello!
I'm still "fighting" with maximum TotalInk. There is the problem. Indesign have background and overlaying image with effect - Multiply. So it's extremely hard to avoid not exceed maximum ink. Indesign don't provide normal way to do it and i start to torture Acrobat for that. First step was create Postcript file then distille it to RGB and then convert by Acrobat X Pro (Print Production/Convert Colors).
Theoreticly everything worked out fine. Black text stayed black (which is miracle) and images went to RGB and back to CMYK. BUT...and i don't understand why - Convert to Profile with Perceptual didn't converted it same way as Photoshop. It still got some points which exceed TotalInk (i used profile with maximum 300). AND image has drastic loss of quality! What did i do wrong? I tried to make Preflight new fix which do same thing and it worked - no exceeds of limit but still BAD quality! What did i miss?
    Thanks.
P.S. If something isn't understandable please ask, i'll try to make my point more clear (english isn't my first language).

The 'create album' button is identical to File>New From Selection>Album (Command-L).
Oddly enough, this gives different behaviour from File>New>Album...
In other words it makes a new Album with the entire Project's-worth of images in it only if you had nothing selected. It's an assumption on the part of the developers - you've asked for a new Album containing the selection, but nothing's selected - do you throw up an error message (like the one when only one Version is selected), or assume that the user wanted everything.
Personally I think Aperture should throw up a dialog box to keep things consistent, but I can see the reasoning behind it. And as long as we've got menu items and keyboard shortcuts for both, I don't really care.

  • Problems converting layered rgb files with transparency to cmyk files retaining the layers.

10.7.4/Mac Pro/PhotoshopCS6 13.0 - When cmyk converting a multilayered rgb file layers containing transparency doesn't convert to same profile as layers not including transparency, e.g. a product with a shadow - each on separate layers. the product layer is converted to working Color settings but the transparent layer isn't and is converted completely different, both grayscale and UCR/GCR.
    Any suggestions?
    Tom

Sorry c.pfaffenbichler, but I'm not giving in - and as you have not really produced any facts to explain this I will see this as a Photoshop bug.
If you make a simple two-point gradient in CMYK the gradient will (according to your settings) create a transition between the two colors.
If one of the colors is 87/78/64/92 and the other 0/0/0/0 then the resulting intermediate steps will depend on those two colors – the CMYK space’s GCR settings have no influence here.
Edit: To clarify: The CMYK space’s GCR settings determine how the default »black« is formed, but a gradient in CMYK is not dependent on those GCR settings. Otherwise all gradients would have to be dragged through the PCS and that would not make sense if somebody decides to make a gradient with certain CMYK colors.
And as I have tried to explain: A black to transparent gradient layer is basically a black layer with a transparency, so again: the CMYK GCR settings do not play into this.
Just convert a RGB black to transparent Layer to CMYK, rasterize it and then apply Layer > Layer Mask > From Transparency, then turn off the Layer Mask.
Whether you »give in« or not does not change the way these things are.
knowing there's a flaw in Photoshop, not letting us see what transparents really look like when converted...?
The flaw seems to be in your understanding, not in Photoshop.
Working in RGB and CMYK has relevant differences.
In RGB there is true black, in CMYK true black would have to be 100/100/100/100 which would violate the requirements for many or most processes.
And a CMYK space’s GCR settings are applied in conversion, when you yourself work in CMYK and commit a blunder (meaning things like exceeding the TAC, arbitrarily mixing grays, …) the problems are of your own making.
Edit: To restate: »expecting a layered image to appear identically in RGB and CMYK is simply not sensible depending on the image content and structure.«
The two color models are inherently different, the one additive, the other subtractive.

Stamp tool Paste clipboard image as stamp - This command is greyed out & not selectable - I have copied an image to the clipboard Acrobat X v10.1.4 o OS X 10.7.4 Lion does not find it.  Under OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard it worked
Has anyone else got this working with OSX 10.7.4 Lion with Acrobat X ?- Its a consistent problem for me on both my MacBookPro & IMac computers

Exactly, that feature was so valuable for me in previous versions.  I am not sure why someone who sells something would eliminate a feature that customers use. What person made that call?  They are probably working at Microsoft now making those "great products" (though I do like Excel, but only because they haven't changed it, esentially, for years...of course, how much can you really change a calculator?).
Please fix this Adobe...I would be your biggest fan

  • Remove hidden information without converting to RGB

I'm preparing a PDF for one-color printing, and it has some color data off the page that's messing up our prepress process. So I ran "remove hidden information" to cut that data out, but it converted the entire file from CMYK to RGB. I obviously need the file to stay CMYK (getting it down to just K was the whole point). Is there any way to remove cropped/overlapping data without converting to RGB?

You might try running the Preflight single fixup under Pages to "Remove page objects which are completely outside of page area" instead.

  • Can a photoshop cmyk psd file converted to photoshop PDF be used online, or 1st convert to RGB?

Can a photoshop cmyk psd file converted to photoshop PDF be used online, or 1st convert to RGB? (the client requested 300 res. and is using it for their online magazine)

There should be no difficulty using CMYK online - all PDF viewers have to be able to convert to RGB for the screen. But I'd be very concerned about putting 300 dpi online. You should shrink it down to a suitable screen resolution.

  • Removing "Paste Clipboard Image as Stamp Tool" from toolbar

Somehow the "Paste Clipboard Image as Stamp Tool" button appeared on my Comment & Markup toolbar, and I can't remove it.  Also, when I go to Tool > Comment & Markup > Stamps > the "Paste Clipboard Image as Stamp Tool" option is always dim, as if it's already selected, but the other options such as "Dynamic" and "Sign Here" are bold, allowing you to select them by clicking on them.  I'm not trying to make the "Paste Clipboard Image as Stamp Tool" bold so I can select it, I'm just saying this to help someone figure out why I can't remove the "Paste Clipboard Image as Stamp Tool" button from my Comment & Markup toolbar.  Thank you.

Likely that you activated the clipboard by copying something like an image from Photoshop or Illustrator and did this while Acrobat was open.  If nothing is in your clipboard the option will be dimmed, otherwise it will be colorful and allow you to paste into the PDF.

  • Converting to RGB

I am designing with CMYK templates but I need to convert them to RGB before uploading and I'm not sure how to do this. I also need them to be saved as
PNG. I know how to export to PNG but I need to know if I do this before or after the RGB conversion.
    Hope someone can help.

  • Can I use either PE9 or LR4 to convert Adobe RGB to CMYK?

Can I use either PE9 or LR4 to convert Adobe RGB to CMYK?

LR4 does not convert to CMYK. You would need CS6. But if your requirement is a one-off you may be able to get your print lab to do the conversion at a reasonable price.

  • Paste Clipboard Image as Stamp not working

The Paste Clipboard Image as Stamp Tool does not work - it is greyed out after copying an image. I'm currently running Acrobat Pro 10.1.4 on OSX 10.8, but the problem has also existed in earlier versions of Acrobat Pro and OSX.
I've reported the bug to Adobe more than once, but it's never been fixed. There are a couple of reports of the problem in the forums, but no solutions. I'm posting again in hopes that Adobe sees in and responds, or that someone has found a solution, work around or alternative method of pasting images.
    Thanks.

The clipboard in Acrobat seems to work differently that one might expect, at least that is my experience on Win systems. You might try to print the image to a PDF and then select the image in the new PDF and see if that is available for the copy. I just tried both the copy and paste and the and the create stamp from clipboard in AA8 and it worked fine, even from the Windows clipboard. Is the stamp tool greyed out all together, or just the copy from clipboard option? Are you sure there is an image in the clipboard (easy to forget at times)?
