Clob Ora11g jdbc6 jar

Initially our Java servlet used ojdbc4.jar to connect to oracle database . After migrating to Oracle 11g database, we are facing difficulties to read clob data returned from a oracle function. This was working fine in the previous DB versions.
We later decided to use ojdbc6.jar to connect to Oracle 11g database but that didn't help either.
The challenge is we were able to read clob data only upto a certain length using substring say around 4000 characters. If we try to read a entire clob data to its length the DB connection gets closed.
TOAD
We got the same issue "Connection Closed" issue when running a direct SQL using TOAD Oracle Client.
I'm pretty sure the stored procedure works good as i'm able to query its length. I believe the problem lies within the clob serialization part by JDBC drivers.
Any help is much appreciated!!!
P.S: The oracle DB is located remotely and we usually establish VPN tunnel to connect to the Oracle DB instance for Java Servlet to communicate.

You say a function. Do you have a resultset? If so, I believe it is possible to fetch data of a specific column through an InputStream. That would minimize the memory needed by the driver to provide the data to you. When you say the problem happens when you fetch more data, I am inclined to think it is because of a lack of memory that it fails. When things break inside the driver I can imagine that a cleanup step performed as a reaction to the failure is to close the connection to the database, but that's conjecture on my part.
Note that what you say here does smell like a driver bug relating to function/procedure calls, so it might be worth reporting it to Oracle if you can figure out how.

Do you mean "how to add a jar to the classpath at runtime"? Can't be done without using a classloader, typically URLClassLoader or a subclass thereof. Why you want to not use the proven method is beyond me. Presumably because you don't understand classloading. In which case, forget it.

    Hi Ashok
    You can get a "ClassCastException" when the JVM doesn't have access to the specific class (in your case, "oracle.sql.CLOB").
    Just check your classpath and see if you are referring to the correct jar files.

  • Problem with CLOB in PLSQL Web Service.

    I have Oracle Package that accepts CLOB as IN parameter and another CLOB as an OUT parameter. I went thru the tutorial in how to publish a database
    PLSQL package as a web service with out any problem. I was able to publish and call successfully my PLSQL web service thru a browser and thru a simple C# application. It's been working fine until I receive an XML file which is bigger than 32766:
    java.sql.SQLException: setString can only process strings of less than 32766 chararacters at oracle.jdbc.driver.DatabaseError.throwSqlException(DatabaseError.java:137)]
    JDeveloper version: JDeveloper 10g (10.1.2.2.0) Build 1929
    Oracle Application Server 10g
    I'm newbie in JDeveloper so any help is greatly appreciated.

    i've used JDev's tools to developer and to deploy the web service: the war and ear files are automatically generates you to the end of the process.
    I have included all the files java and the compiled classes, but I do not have files jar.
    But don't works: if i create only one java class with all code inside then it works fine!!

    The setChracterStream works for any insert/update clob. Example when I tried the query (INSERT INTO CLOB_TEST VALUES(?)) setCharacterStream just works fine.

    when you pick the PL/SQL function body returning a boolean, it implicitly means that TRUE means OK, while FALSE means error, always.
    In order to associate such error to a given form field, you have to go back to the page definiton / validations and specify the name of the item in the corresponding field.
    When you first create the validation rule, this value is not present even if you ask for the error message inline with the field.
    The error message text can be specified in the validation definition, if I am not wrong.
    When you need to return special error messages, including dynamic content for instance, you can use the Function Returning Error Message type, which reports an error when the string returned by the function is not null. This comes in handy when you want to display an item's code, for example, rather than generic text.
    Even in this case, you must go back to the validation and specify the name of the field if you want to see it inline.

  • TEMP tablespace getting full while inserting a CLOB in Trigger

    We have a Oracle 10g (10.2.0.4.0) DB on a Solaris 9 box which also runs our J2EE web-service application on Weblogic 8sp6 server.
    We get around 220K web-service requests from upstream callers daily to insert data in the main table, say TABLE1, which has daily partitions on a date column. This table has around 21 columns out of which 1 is a CLOB column.
    Now this table has an AFTER INSERT trigger which calls a package procedure to insert the same record into another table, say TABLE2.
    From Java application insert statement in executed in below format using a weblogic jdbc connection pool :
    INSERT INTO TABLE1(COLUMN1, COLUMN2, ........., CLOB_COLUMN,........, COLUMN21) VALUES (:1, :2, :3, :4, :5, :6, :7, :8, :9, :10, :11, :12, :13, :14, :15, :16, :17, :18, :19, :20);
    Clob object is prepared in application using ojdbc14.jar.
    We are observing a strange issue here. The TEMP tablespace utilization keeps on growing as more and more inserts are executed by application and after ~125K inserts the TEMP tablespace gets full and we start getting ORA-01652 error.
    On further analysis we could see that there are only 7-10 session being maintained but as more and more inserts happen TEMP tablespace utilization goes on increasing for each of these sessions.
    When we tried with inserting just few records and then watching the session details in v$session_wait then we could see that it is in INACTIVE state and waiting for the event ‘SQL*Net message from client’. This does not seem correct as the session has successfully inserted the data and committed the transaction and we can see the data in the tables as well.
    The confusing thing here is when we modify the trigger to pass blank string('' ) instead of the CLOB column to TABLE2 then this issue does not occur. All 200K records are inserted properly and TEMP tablespace utilization also keep always below 1%.
    Can you please help us in solving this issue. Is this related to any oracle issue?
    Inside the package we have tried using DBMS_COPY statement to copy the CLOB column after insert but still same result.

    My first thought on reading your post is that not only are you using a database version that is now so old it is in extended support and even then not even the most recent patchset for it.
    The first thing I would do is move to 11gR2 and if you can't do that at least get to 10.2.0.5 and apply CLOB relevant patches as well.
    Same goes for your operating system. Solaris 9 is ancient: So move to 10 which has vastly improved memory management.
    To help you further it would be really valuable to know the table layout. For example is this a heap table or an IOT? Is it partitioned? Is this RAC? What size are the CLOBs? Are they stored in-line? Chunk size? etc.

    But I am also wondering why you would use a trigger to, as you say, "insert the same record into another table." This description is a poster child for "bad design."

  • Insert CLOB values problem with 9.2 drivers and not with 10

    We are using Oracle 9.2.0.5. We need to insert values bigger than 4000bytes using thin connection, so we've decided to use CLOB fields. With the 9.2.0.5 driver we can't do it, obtaining the classical exception explaining the data is bigger than the supported size but with the 10g driver (and, of course, same java code) it worked. The problem is that we want to mantain the equivalence between the database and driver not using the 10g driver with the 9.2.0.5 version of the db.
    Here it's the test code we've used:

    I had exactly the same problem. on Oracle 9.2 I wanted to insert a template file bigger than 4K. with the ojdbc14.jar from Oracle 9.2 it was not possible.
    What I did was this:
    I have used a JDBCwrapper to fix this issue. I can send it to you, if you send me your email.
    When I use the ojdbc14.jar from Oracle 10, I cannot insert a bigger file.
    How did you code your programm to insert big size data into a CLOB field with ojdbc14.jar driver from 10?

    I am migrating a web application from Oracle OC4J to Weblogic 10.0.3. In this application there are number of java files which uses the following piece of code and I can't change that:

    This occurs when you mismatch the xsu jar file with the classes1x.zip file (the jdbc driver).
    xsu12.jar goes with classes12.zip
    xsu111.jar goes with classes111.zip

    In my process I can successfully write to a blob or clob field (via database adapter). But I'm not able anymore to get the value out of the database (Oracle Lite). I always get following error:

    The problem is with using Oracle's CLOB and BLOB implementation. I haven't even started using BLOB and CLOB. I want to collect data of BLOB and CLOB types from oracle and store it in XML file and after that if required, collect the same data from xml file and store it back to oracle table. I can do these things for all the rest datatypes but BLOB and CLOB. How to proceed?

    I'd also recommend to switch to 8.1.7 thin driver. It's more stable.

  • EJB: CMP, CLOB on Oracle 9i

    A CMP entity bean has a field that is a CLOB field. I used capture-schema to obtain the schema.
    When a value of length greater than 4000 bytes is set to the field, I get the following exception:
    java.sql.SQLException: No more data to read from socket
    I investigated the schema output from capture-schema file. It shows the clob field is 4000 bytes. SQuirreL also shows the column to be 4000bytes. However, in Oracle, a clob can hold way more than 4000 bytes. Why does a java app (SQuirrel and capture-schema) analysis result in 4000 bytes for an oracle clob field?
    Is there a limitation in j2ee sdk (or java) such that it cannot deal with clob's greater than 4000 bytes on an oracle data base? Has anyone had success here?
    Is there something I can look into? I can provide more information as needed.

  • Diff between oracle's org.w3c.dom in xmlParserV2.jar and JREs impl?

    New to Java/oracle enviornment.
    I have an class that retrieves clobs from 10g. I need to include oracles xmlParserV2.jar in the classpath for XMLType support.
    I then added this class to my app.
    When I do this, areas in my app that previously used the JRE org.w3c.dom bombs with the exception: AbstractMethodError: getTextContent()....
    I am assuming that when I set xmlParserv2.jar in my class path, that my app is now using oracle's implementation of the org.w3c.dom....
    I say this because I see the org.w3c.dom.. in the xmlParserv2jar. Is my app running into some incompatibility with the way oracle has implemented the org.w3c.dom.
    Is there a xmlParserv2.jar without the org.w3c stuff?
    I need the XMLType support from xmlParserv2.jar. Is the XMLType support dependent on oracles implementation of the org.w3c.dom....?

    I dont find the j2ee_1.3.01.jar file in a simple oc4j installation. Its present in the bpel/lib directory if you install the full soa suite.
    I removed the oc4jclient.jar, and I see the same behavior as mentioned above. If I just have two jar files - orabpel.jar and orabpel-common.jar, my application does not start up (no logs are created). When I add the j2ee_1.3.01.jar, then the logs are created but I see the LinkageError in the opmn logs.

  • ORA-01031: insufficient privileges on CLOB table

    Hi,
    Our application on RAC encountered ORA-01031: insufficient privileges when trying to insert into clob table.
    However it is not always happen on the application. Sometimes it happens and sometimes not.
    I have tried to manually insert into the database with the same user and it inserted successfully..
    Anyone any idea?

  • JDBC CLOB error

    Hi,
    I face the following error, i use the oracle jdbc driver as db driver and i use the same ojdbc14.jar file as the project library, but when i try to cast the clob object return from resutlset it throw me class cast exception, i did print out the class name it shown oracle.sql.CLOB, but when i cast the object to oracle.sql.CLOB it still show me the error.
    Do you have any idea what is wrong?
