Clock running slow...sometimes by 4 hours

This is a new issue I noticed since yesterday....clock was slow by 4 hours...adjusted it manually and today it was slow by 30 minutes. Any ideas on how to keep it synched to an external site like you can on an PC? Thanks

This is not an uncommon problem and has been discussed here before. I suggest you search the iPad forum, using the search function on the right, for:
time AND (loosing OR slow)

  • Clock running slow on iPod touch

Hello all, I am experiencing an issue with my iPod touch's clock running slow. I believe I have a 2nd generation and am running OS 4. I checked to see if my PC's clock is slower but it is not. Does anyone have any ideas?

How slow? Many users have reported hours or days ahead or behind on iOS4. I have read on other posts that doing a full restore fixes the problem. Here is how:
    To do a full restore:
    - Start iTunes and plug in your device.
    - Under Devices, click on your device.
    - On the Summary page there are two buttons: 'Check for Update' and 'Restore'.
    - Click Restore.
    - The system will back up your device, then reset it to factory specs, then restore from the backup. This takes QUITE a while, depending on how much stuff you have on there.
Doing this seems to have solved the problem for me. I haven't had it randomly change the time in the 6 days since I posted my message.

  • LUMIA 800 - Clock running slow!

    Hi there,
I have a bizarre problem with my Lumia 800 running on Optus - the clock runs slow! I have had to set the clock multiple times since I got it, and within about a week of setting it each time the clock is several minutes behind time. **bleep** about a fortnight of setting it the time reads over 10 minutes behind where it should be. I've noticed that unlike on a lot of other phones, there is no 'sync time automatically' or similar feature on the Lumia 800.
**bleep** a quick Google search, the only other mention I found similar to this problem was on another Nokia thread, of people on 3 UK complaining that their clock was actually running too fast:
    /t5/Nokia-with-Windows-Phone/On-board-clock-waaay-fast-Lumia-800/td-p/1334499
Unfortunately there didn't seem to be a solution to their problem
For the record my phone was purchased through Optus, and I haven't made any modifications to it whatsoever. I have updated it with the latest firmware, however the problem has persisted since I first got the phone.
    Can anyone please help me?

Hi all, sorry for the delay getting back to you - for the record, I'll second the above replies and say that there's definitely no option to set time automatically on my Lumia 800..
Strangely enough, my issue resolved itself after a few months and I have no idea what fixed it!
On perhaps an unrelated note, for a period of about a month or two, my phone would routinely notify me about a new software update that was available. I connected my phone to the computer and updated the software, only for it to tell me a few days later that another update was available. After a couple of weeks of this, I looked into the update version and found it was the same update every time. Once again, this makes no sense to me whatsoever.
I have to say that I was really excited when I bought the Lumia 800, thinking that Microsoft (and Nokia) would bend over backwards to support the few customers that made the switch from iPhones etc. to such a fledgling platform, but I've since found that after-sales support has been pretty poor (evidenced in part by the lack of official response to this thread). I'm also really disappointed that Microsoft have essentially ditched their most loyal customers by upgrading to Windows Phone 8 without support for 7.5 users. Instead we've been waiting in the dark for the 7.8 update that still hasn't come out yet..
Apologies for the rant, thanks to the above users for trying to help me out - hope your phone issues resolve themselves also!

    @DarkX
You don't say whether your Lumia 800 is network branded or not and if provider does not support "network time" this feature may be absent.
There are also problems in the way the phone gets the time which is probably using NITZ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NITZ) so device may easily be 3 - 4 minutes off satellite time.

  • Time indicator (clock) runs slow and getting slower

I have had problems with the clock for quite some time. First, when I travel, if the computer is shut down and only on battery for quite along time, when I restart the computer, the clock needs to be reset before the system will boot.
This past week the clock has started to run slow. And it's getting slower.
    Any ideas what's wrong?
T43p that ran out of warranty two months ago.

Sounds like it's time for a new CMOS battery.  Search around online for one that works for your model laptop.

  • Clock runs slow, but BIOS shows right time.

This is a bit of a strange problem.  My clock keeps running slow.  I tried ntp, and just couldn't seem to get it working, so then I switched to openntp, and the logs show it adjusting my clock.  My hardware clock keeps correct time, so I know it's not a battery issue.  It seemed to be working fine for two days, at one point, then all of a sudden started running slow again.  I've never had this problem before, but I recently switched to 64bit arch, so I thought that might have something to do with it, but that doesn't really make any sense.  Any ideas?

Here's a quick update.  In addition to my messed up clock, I also noticed that CD audio play in double time.  So, I figured that it was the double time bug (although my clock was running slow, and not fast :S), so I added  no_timer_check to menu.lst.  That fixed my CD audio problem, but my clock is still running slow!
If no one has any idea how to fix this, is there at least somewhere else I can look?

  • Macbook pro runs slow, sometimes it is more than a minute to load a webpage and sometimes freezes.

My MacBook Pro is running very slowly, sometimes more than a minute to open a webpage or access a link on the page.  Using Safari and sometimes it freezes and the force quit window doesn't appear using option-command-escape.  Then only holding down the power button shuts down the computer.  Thanks for any help.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Why does my 2012 macbook pro 4gb ram run slow sometimes?

I've purchased my 2012 4gb ram Macbook ram w/ 500 gb hard drive around September. It started off extremely fast the first 4 months (when I had mavericks), but there we're problems with the Video playback towards the last 4 months (It would Freeze and unfreeze & the the audio-video sync would be way off after 30 mins of netflix, which would cause the whole computer to slow down). So, I installed the Yosemite update, which made it even worse to the point where my macbook was unusable. With yosemite, I'd have an average of 500mb ram free memory available, sometimes even lower. Now, I did a manual restore to OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion, and I see the major difference in speed.  I could use safari now & get an average of 1.47 gb of free ram available (with just the safari application open). Now, the video playback issue still occurs sometimes & having about 4 programs open does make the computer slower than usual, but not as often. I'm hoping this is just a ram issue, becuase I'm expecting on upgrading my ram to a 16gb ram or higher while still on Mountain Lion just to be able to run Logic Pro & Adobe Premiere in the near future. If its not a ram issue which is causing this problem on my macbook, I'd be ****** because I'd be spending almost $200 on a ram upgrade and it not resolving this issue would kill me. Could someone help? Ill even take a Diagnose test like Etrecheck if you need me to. Thanks.

  • Clock running slow

I built a machine for my father recently. It is a KM4M-L board with 256 DDR SDRAM ruing Wn 98 second edition. The clock is always slow and the mouse is sticking on occasion. I recently changed his hard drive from a 13 gig running at ATA 33 to a 30 gig running ATA 100 and although it helped some there is still a problem. DOes anyone have any advice? Do I need to upgrade his machine to WinXP Pro. Thanks in advance.
    Rob

yes, which clock do you mean?  CPU clock or the system time clock?  i had an issue with my mobo when i first got it and i thought the battery was going dead too.  the issue was that my bios and win clock would not keep time properly and if i turned off computer for a while, it would seem as tho i was turning it on for 1st time.  well, i was going to get a new battery, but then decided to check the jumper, just in case it was set to clear.  i didnt think this would be the issue tho since the comp shouldnt boot if the jumper is in clear.  looking at my mobo, msi completely forgot to put a jumper in the board in the 1st place!  took a jumper from a old pos i had laying around, put in in 1&2, and everything has worked fine since.

  • Mac starts running slow after about an hour

O.K, have to take my mac in today to have a new hard drive installed, bought in 2007, I am using an external drive on it also, but what I was wondering is what if anything I have been doing caused it to go bad, or is it just one of those things that happens, I will ask the people at the mac store where i'm taking it the same question, but I was just wanting some feed back. about $300.00 for a new hard drive, if thats all thats wrong.  Can't afford a new mac right now.

Drives go bad. Not your fault. But keep an eye on the temps. Too much heat long term is bad for all hardware.

  • STRANGE!!! Windows Xp clock running fast....

Hi guys. Youve helped me in the past so I hope you can help me again!
My MSI system has been running solid as a rock for about 1and1/2years now. Very happy with it. untill now..
It all started after I installed a bluetooth dongle (or so i though). I suddently realised that my xp clock was running fast about 10seconds every minute. I though this is weird so did the obvious things... restarted comp checked bios which was running fine. It is only when I get into windows that it starts to run fast. I uninstalled the bluetooth software thinking it was the culprit but obvoisuly wasnt. I then decided it was about time that i reformatted again anyway so reformatted and sure enough it fixed the problem, proving to me that it is a software problem not a hardware. Then, after about 4 months of my new reformatted system being up and running it suddenly has started doing it again. I havent even installed the bluetooth software or anything that is obviouslty the problem. I dont know if this has anything to do with it but my firewire card has also stopped working for somereason. I replaced it with a new one and that doesnt work either!
Any ideas anyone, ive searched the whole forum and internet and it doesnt seem like a common problem!
    Many thanks
    Jon.

    Hello hurndall:
I see you are running XP/SP2 with all patches.  Besides that, are you running any third party software that monitors communication?  Looking at this from the paranoid perspective, have you run a spyware/malware sweep of your system?
The Windows Time service that you stopped is used to synchronize time across a network and does not directly control your RTC.  Unless systems on your network are using it there will be no effect, so you can probably leave it stopped.
Regarding your fast clock problem, I have had this type of problem on PC platforms that were using the RTC interrupt to start background tasks such as data logging or other hardware.  The hardware RTC clock uses IRQ 8; old MS-DOS software would modify the code associated with this interrupt to give pseudo-real time operation to specific processes.  As I recall there is/was a timer that pinged this IRQ at 13.8 ms intervals and so kept the clock going.  Although the usual symptom in these cases was a clock running SLOW, not fast, it is possible to have a clock run fast due to a bug in the added software.
You can do a rudimentary check on your system by starting Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager - View - Resources By Connection - IRQ
Look at IRQ 8 - it should only be associated with the RTC function.
This is probably not going to get you anywhere but it is something that should be checked anyway.
Looking at your problem from the other direction, it seems that your system has issues with communication devices - Bluetooth, FireWire and now Remote Login.  I'm not sure how you are communicating with your system remotely (network - i.e., ethernet or dial-up, i.e., modem), but you might want to reinstall/update the drivers associated with your Ethernet or Modem hardware.   Since the problem seems to go away on a reinstall, which refreshes all these drivers, you might want to try this.  It's a lot simpler than a reinstall.
The Remote Login Service installs and/or starts a number of services that depend on the svchost.exe module.  It seems unlikely that there is a problem there but you might want to make sure that svchost.exe is truly the SP2 version or whatever is the most recent.  I don't know if any patches since SP2 have modified it.  You could look at another XP system can check the properties of svchost.exe.
    My system reports
    File Version 5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)
    Product Version 5.1.2600.2180
    for svchost.exe
Sorry I can't give you any more specific help.
    Good luck,
    ss

  • Clock runs fast

I just got my new Mac Pro (3.0) and I've found the clock runs fast, easily slipping an hour every day. Even when I have it set to use Apple's time servers, I've found that the clock easily slips several minutes into the future.
    1) Can I fix this somehow?
    2) Can I get "set date and time automatically" to update more frequently?
    Thanks!

    Thomas-
Are you running Leopard Server? I am, and I think I've narrowed it down to that.
On a separate, newly formatted drive, I created two partitions. On one, I installed Server. Bare bones, no updates, etc. On the other, I installed Client. End result? Server runs fast (4 s/m), Client runs fine. Client also runs fine on my MacBook. When I make a copy of my Server drive to my MacBook (Restore from Disk Utility), I have no time loss.
So, it seems it's combination of software and hardware (in my case). I really hope you're running Server so I can report this bug, somehow.
