Clusternig with JNDI problem

I have a requierment to have a synchronous transaction where there is a
          daemon/process quering for new rows in a table (running constantly).
          When a new row shows up we need to remove it and do some business logic
          in an EJB. If the EJB fails, we dont want the rows removed (so we will
          rollback the changes).
          We are plannnig on registering this service as a thread (and probably
          binding indo the JNDI tree, so we can get to the service). The system
          will be clustered, and we want to make sure that only one of the
          clusters is running at a time, but if the server that is running goes
          down, we want another in the cluster to take over.
          Finally my question:
          I have looked at the ejb2.0 spec some but havent had the time to read it
          in much detail.
          Is there an easier solution to this problem than the one described?
          Is there something in weblogic that allows clusters to communicate with
          eachother so notification of a server going down can be handled and the
          responsibility of the service can be picked up by another server?
          thanks for any help you can offer
          -chris

The problem you describe is one of the weak points in the J2EE spec and in
          Weblogic clusters in particular. Usually the best solution is to use a
          timer on all server instances and let the database coordinate the
          concurrency of the "polling" logic such that only one server will "find" the
          data when it is available, although at different points, different servers
          will find the data. Then the only variable is the timer delay. This seems
          to be the most disaster-proof and scalable.

    Take out the "weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory" and add the respective factory NAME..
    environment.put(Context.INITIALCONTEXT_FACTORY, "weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory");

    Anybody used JSC and Websphere with JNDI? I go live next week and don't want to have to configure a context file each time for production.
    Regards,
    LOTI

    Is the resource ref the same as you configured for the bundled
    Sun App server ?
    We do have a sample JNDI application and tip if they help:

    The issue may not be related to the number of connections or the initial
    connections. Check your heap size (ms, mx). Turn on verbosegc. Your heap may
    not be big enough to accept the 25,000 rows.

    We are creating the result set with 25000 rows(each row has 56 columns) bygetting the connection using data source. With the initial capacity of the
    connection pool is 5 and the max capacity as 30 and grow connection as 1,
    the server gets out of memory exception, when we issue a new request, even
    after closing the previous connections.
    Now, if we change the initial capacity to 1 and rest all the things assame, the issue gets resolved and the server works fine.
    Could you please help me out in this regard????
    thanks in advance

  • Crystal Report JRC and JNDI problem

    I need to convert one of our internal web application from using Crystal Report Server 10 RAS to using Crystal Report XI Java Component (JRC). I found several examples from SAP/BusinessObjects but am stuck with a database connectivity problem.
    The basic enviornment info:
    JBoss 4.0.3 SP1
    Crystal Report JRC XI
    Windows XP/Server 2003
    JDK 1.5.x
    MS SQL Server 2005
    The error I am getting is "Error finding JNDI name (xxx)", although the application is already using the same JNDI and was able to display data on the web.
    I added debug code:
                    Context initialContext = null;
                    try {
                        initialContext = new InitialContext();
                        DataSource ds = (DataSource) initialContext.lookup("java:MYAPP");
                        String t = ds.toString();
                        log.debug(t);
                    } catch (NamingException e) {
                        log.error(e);
    I was able to get the data source successfully. The actual report file uses JDBC with JNDI named as "MYAPP". When I call the viewer, it gives
    Error finding JNDI name (MYAPP)
    message.
    Any comment or help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    How are you setting your connection info?
    This is what we do:
    IConnectionInfo connectionInfo = new ConnectionInfo();
    PropertyBag propertyBag = new PropertyBag();
    propertyBag.put("JNDI Datasource Name", reportJndiName);
    propertyBag.put("Database DLL", DATABASE_DLL); // required!!! (but we don't actually provide a DLL, or even run in windows)
    connectionInfo.setAttributes(propertyBag);
    connectionInfo.setKind(ConnectionInfoKind.SQL);
    ConnectionInfos connectionInfos = databaseController.getConnectionInfos(null);
    IConnectionInfo oldConnectionInfo = connectionInfos.getConnectionInfo(0);
    databaseController.replaceConnection(oldConnectionInfo, connectionInfo, null, DBOptions._useDefault );

  • JMS: Looking up queue from client with JNDI

    I have written an MDB which takes messages from a queue and processes them. The messages are posted onto the queue by a java client, which looks up the queue using JNDI.
    My problem is that I don't know how the queue is registered with JNDI. Below are the EJB / OC4J config files. Are these sufficient to make the queue accessible from a Java client which is not running within OC4J? If so, what is the lookup string?
    Thanks!!
    ejb-jar.xml contains the following entry:
    <message-driven>
    <ejb-name>PODProcessor</ejb-name>
    <ejb-class>XXX.core.server.integration.PODProcessor</ejb-class>
    <transaction-type>Container</transaction-type>
    <message-driven-destination>
    <destination-type>javax.jms.Queue</destination-type>
    </message-driven-destination>
    </message-driven>
    orion-ejb-jar.xml contains this entry:
    <message-driven-deployment name="PODProcessor" connection-factory-location="java:comp/resource/agenttojms/QueueConnectionFactories/aqQcf" destination-location="java:comp/resource/agenttojms/Queues/PodQueue">
    </message-driven-deployment>
    application.xml contains this entry:
    <resource-provider class="oracle.jms.OjmsContext" name="agenttojms">
    <description>OJMS/AQ</description>
    <property name="datasource" value="jdbc/MQEmulatedDS"></property>
    </resource-provider>
    The data source is also set up in the data-sources.xml
    The EJB deploys OK.
    My client code will look something like this:
    QueueConnectionFactory queueConnectionFactory = (QueueConnectionFactory)jndiContext.lookup("javax.jms.QueueConnectionFactory");
    QueueConnection queueConnection = queueConnectionFactory.createQueueConnection();
    Queue queue = (Queue) jndiContext.lookup( "WHAT GOES IN HERE?" );
    QueueSession queueSession = queueConnection.createQueueSession(false, Session.AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE);
    QueueSender queueSender = queueSession.createSender(queue);
    // etc

    I don't know if you ever got a response, but here's how I have done it. Your client code should look like this:
    QueueConnectionFactory queueConnectionFactory = (QueueConnectionFactory)jndiContext.lookup("java:comp/resource/agenttojms/QueueConnectionFactories/aqQcf");
    QueueConnection queueConnection = queueConnectionFactory.createQueueConnection();
    Queue queue = (Queue) jndiContext.lookup( "java:comp/resource/agenttojms/Queues/PodQueue" );
    QueueSession queueSession = queueConnection.createQueueSession(false, Session.AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE);
    QueueSender queueSender = queueSession.createSender(queue);

  • JNDI problems in OC4J

    Hi,
    I'm running OC4J integrated with the SOA Suite 10.1.3.3.
    I have a legacy web service created with XFire and deployed in OC4J, lets call it HelloWorldService. I would like to bind a POJO object from within this service with JNDI.
    I would then like to lookup this object from another web service which is a EJB3 session bean, deployed in the same OC4J instance. Lets call it LookupBean.
    I can see in the JNDI browser that the POJO is bound under the HelloWorldService. But when i try to lookup the POJO i get an error saying that the POJO cannot be found.
    This is how i bind the POJO from HelloWorldService
    Context initialContext = new InitialContext();
    initialContext.bind("HelloWorldServicePOJO", obj);
    This is how i try to do the lookup from LookupBean:
    Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
    env.put("java.naming.factory.initial",
    "com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory");
    env.put("java.naming.provider.url","ormi://localhost:12401/HelloWorldService");
    //env.put("java.naming.provider.url","opmn:ormi://localhost:6003:home/HelloWorldService");
    env.put("java.naming.security.principal","oc4jadmin");
    env.put("java.naming.security.credentials","oc4jadmin");
    Context context = new InitialContext(env);
    POJO obj = (POJO) context.lookup("HelloWorldServicePOJO");
    I have tried also with the out commented line above, but it does not work. What can be wrong?
    Thanks,
    Mattias

    Hi,
    thanks for the link, but I already knew it and read a lot in it. I still don't get what exactly is going wrong. I replaced the jgroups-core.jar by my jgroups-jar which results in the same exception. It also seems that somehow the commons-logging.jar-classes from /webservices is being loaded even though it's not in the classpath of my application. I noticed this when I replaced every commons-logging.jar by the commons-logging-api.jar from JCL 1.0.4 (which we use in our application) since my EJBs could not be loaded then due to the following problem:

    It seems like the initialization of the jchannel happens, even though it's being initialized in my application, in one of the classloaders which don't have access to my libs...and I'm definitely not going to add all my jars into locations the root-classloader (or whoever) has access to.

  • XI to IBM Websphere Default JMS Provider with JNDI

    Hello everybody!
    We face a problem with connecting SAP XI to IBM WebSphere Default JMS Provider (need to send a message from XI to WebSphere JMS and receive the response).
    We have the following versions installed:
        SAP XI: 7.0 SP8 , Sun JDK 1.4.2
        IBM WebSphere: IBM WebSphere Application Server ND, 6.0.2.17, J2RE 1.4.2 IBM
    We cannot set the JMS adapter of SAP XI for conecting with IBM WebSphere Default JMS Provider. The Communication Channel has erroneous state (at runtime) and the Communication Channel Monitoring tool displays the error message as described below (under "Variant 1" and "Variant 2" sub-headings) depending on the settings performed.
    For connecting, the following JMS-provider settings were used at IBM WebSphere side:
       JMS Providers: Default Messaging Provider
       Queue Connection Factories: name:QueueConnectionFactory, jndi:jms/QueueConnectionFactory, provider: Default Messaging Provider
       Queues: name Queue, jndi: jms/Queue, provider: Default Messaging Provider
    The XI communication channel (and associated JMS-adapter) was set as Variants 1 and 2 show. Settings for both cases and received error messages were the following:
    <b>Variant 1.</b>
        Adapter type: JMS
        Type: Receiver
        JMS Provider: Access JMS Provider with JNDI (Java Naming and Directory Interface)
        JNDI Lookup Name of QueueConnectionFactory:  jms/QueueConnectionFactory
        JNDI Lookup Name of JMS Queue: jms/Queue
        Name of JNDI Initial Context Factory: com.sap.engine.services.jndi.InitialContextFactoryImpl
        JNDI Server Address: iiop://WEBSPHERE.HOST:2809/
        As the result, the Communication Channel Monitoring displays that the channel has erroneous state and the following error message is written:
        "Error during channel initialization; exception trace: com.sap.engine.services.jndi.persistent.exceptions.NameNotFoundException: Object not found in lookup of jms/QueueConnectionFactory.
    at com.sap.engine.services.jndi.implserver.ServerContextImpl.lookup(ServerContextImpl.java:649)"
    <b>Variant 2</b>
        The same settings as in Variant 1 above, were used and additionally the following settings were done:
        - Name of JNDI Initial Context Factory: com.ibm.websphere.naming.WsnInitialContextFactory
        - The archive aii_af_jmsproviderlib.sda containing libraries required by WsInitialContextFactory, was deployed to the SAP WebAS where the XI is running. Those libraries were taken from WebSphere Application Server Pluggable Application Client installation package (described in the article "WebSphere Application Server Pluggable Application Client" located at http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/websphere/library/techarticles/0409_bhogal/0409_bhogal.html)
        - Also, as it is recommended in the referred article, the files required by IBM's iiop protocol (ibmext.jar ibmorb.jar ibmorbapi.jar) were put to the folder jre/lib/endorsed of the server(Sun JVM 1.4.2 is used by SAP WebAS / XI).
        As the result, the Communication Channel Monitoring displays that the channel has erroneous state as well and the following error message is written:

    We have not found the recommended solution either in SDN forums or in Internet in general. Is it yet possible to connect SAP XI to IBM WebSphere Default JMS Provider having mentioned product versioning? If yes, what settings have to be performed?

    IBM Websphere Default JMS Provider which is installed alongwith the application server is nothing but a scaled down version of the IBM WebSphere MQSeries. you should be able to connect to it with the same settings that can be used for a separate MQSeries server connectivity from XI.

  • Crazy JNDI Problem... (Third Party DB Driver Effects Lookup???) (OAS 10g)

    Ok folks, I need some help here...
    The scenario is this...
    I have a simple web app (one jsp) which is used as a "status checker" to ensure that all the session beans we expected to be deployed are actually deployed and that they can be looked up with JNDI and run some small status routine... That war file for that app is included in the ear file with all of the session ejb jar deployments...
    Now, the collection of session beans references three different datasources at one time or another... 2 of which are oracle databases and 1 is a DB2 database...
    Lets name them as follows...
    OracleDataSource1
    OracleDataSource2
    DB2DataSource
    Now, if I configure the three datasources in the oracle standalone OC4J 10g datasource file and deploy the ear file to standalone OC4J 10g, all of the lookups work, and it successfully uses the datasources... no problems at all...
    Ok, so now I try to deploy the ear on OAS 10g using the enterprise manager console, and deployment works fine...
    If I run the app before configuring the datasources, of course the lookups work, but the status routines of certains beans fail because they are not able to look up the datasources... no big deal, just start adding the datasources...
    I configure OracleDataSource1 and rerun... now things still work, the lookups for all the beans works fine, and some pass now, but others still want the other datasources...
    Now configure OracleDataSource2 and rerun... as before, things all work great but there are still complaints looking for the DB2DataSource from a couple of the routines...
    Herein lies the problem...
    I configure DB2DataSource and rerun, and boom, my program crashes claiming that the lookup of the bean failed...
    Now mind you, these beans have all been looked up numerous times during previous runs, and absolutely nothing has been changed with the application... in fact, even the beans that wanted the DB2DataSource were looked up successfully and then just complained of no datasource during their status routine execution...
    It's just that once I configure the DB2DataSource, all of a sudden my lookups don't work... I have tried commenting out a couple of the beans, and regardless of which lookups are commented out, it still fails saying it can't find any of the beans, even if the beans i'm trying to look up don't use the DB2DataSource, it doesn't seem to matter...
    The InitialContext used for the lookup uses the default "new InitialContext()" constructor and the lookups work fine when the DB2DataSource is not configured, but once it is, the lookups fail saying the objects are not found...
    I have consulted with a few other developers here, and noone can seem to understand why this behavior is happening... I have added debugging statements to print the contents of the context's environment, and it is always empty regardless of whether the lookups pass or fail...
    The ONLY difference I can see with this DB2DataSource is that it uses an external 3rd party driver... The oracle connections use a driver which was packaged with the OAS installation... I feel pretty strongly that it has to do with the driver because if I have the DB2DataSource configured (causing the failure) and then I edit that datasource to say that it should us the oracle driver, miraculously it causes the lookups to work again, except now I get the error saying the oracle driver doesn't like my DB2 jdbc url...
    I'm sorry for the long post, but I'm hoping that at least one person has encountered this before... I cannot think of any reason why the configuration of that datasource with the third party driver would cause these problems, especially when the exact same configuration and setup DOES work with standalone OC4J 10g, even with the DB2DataSource configured... ????? And the fact that the lookups work fine until that datasource is configured really blows my mind... i wouldn't think the datasource configuration should have anything to do with whether the lookups of the session beans succeed or not... hahaha...
    Any help would be great... I'm pullin my hair out here... :)
    Thanks,
    -Garrett

    No, I have not asked on the oracle forums yet... :)
    It seems that the cause is the driver itself... if I set a different driver for the datasource configuation, the lookups work but it just complains about the driver not being correct for the individual beans...
    I have found some documentation claiming that there is an OAS version of the DB2 driver, as well as a Merant version, but I can't seem to find jar files for either...
    Does anyone know where I can download the "YMdb2.jar" file? Supposedly this contains the DB2 DataDirect driver that I need...
    Thanks,
    -Garrett

  • Using NT Security Context with JNDI to talk to AD

    Hello all,
    Is there a way in JNDI to connect to Active Directory using the current NT Security Context like ADSI does?
    I want to run a Java program as a service under Win2k.
    I want to assign a user for it to run as (on service start).
    When the program is executing, I need to access AD (wish it wasn't so, but out of my hands), preferrably with JNDI, to read/write data.
    I would like to be able to connect without having to set SECURITY_AUTHENTICATION to "simple" and providing a username and password since as a service, I don't want to interract with the desktop.
    In ADSI, I could set the ADS_SECURE_AUTHENTICATION flag and it would use the NTLM to access AD.
    Is there something similar in JNDI? I've searched the forums, but have only found examples of people using JAAS and GSSAPI (which requires entering a username/password and authenticating against a Kerberos realm) or simple authentication (which requires entering a username/password).
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks schmid03,
    FYI, I am on Win2K Advanced Server running J2SDK 1.4.0_01.
    Tried changing the conf file, but still a no go. Here's what's happening now...
    Get a pop-up window titled "16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem"
    Message: c:\WINNT\system32\ntvdm.exe Error while setting up environment for the application. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.
    Buttons: Close, Ignore
    after calling "lc.login ();"
    but then I can get the Subject and print out Principal (name) and it is correct.
    However, in JNDI call "new InitialDirContext ();" I receive:
    GSSException: No valid credentials provided (Mechanism level: Failed to find any Kerberos Ticket)
