CO-PA: product hierarchy predefined from best practice

Hi guys,
unfortunately I have as basis a best practice system, where product hierarchy with 3 levels is already defined in CO-PA:
PAPH1     ProdHier01-1     ProdH01-1     CHAR     5     MVKE     PAPH1
PAPH2     ProdHier01-2     ProdH01-2     CHAR     10     MVKE     PAPH2
PAPH3     ProdHier01-3     ProdH01-3     CHAR     18     MVKE     PAPH3
PRODH     Prod.hierarchy     Prod.hier.     CHAR     18     MVKE     PRODH
Those ones are already assigned to a best practice operating concern:
10UK     Best Practices
1. we have 7 levels in our product hierarchy
2. I need to read it from mara and not mvke
When trying to ad product hierarchy as characteristic in KEA5 in our new operating concern, I gut the message below.
This data element is used in tons of tables and the whole precdure looks risky + after transport I might have issues again?
Creating ww* characteristics for product hierarchy is not an option, since then I would need to maintain the whole product hiearchy as characteristc values again (like before release 4.5) and this is far more than 1000 entries and is double maintenance after go live.
Deleting the best practice operating concern is also difficult, since there are several clients where customizing still sits for 10UK.
Anybody experience? What did you do?
regards
Bjoern
Here is the text from KEA5 when trying to ad mara fields (since date elment lenghts is different due to more levels):
Product hierarchy field PAPH1 cannot be adapted to the new structure
Message no. KE691
Diagnosis
The definition of the product hierarchy has changed (structure PRODHS). The hierarchy field generated in CO-PA, PAPH1 cannot be adapted to the new definition, because it is already being used in structures or tables.
System Response
The field PAPH1 does not appear in the list of fields that can be selected.
It can no longer be used as a characteristic.
Procedure
If you still want to define hierarchy field PAPH1 as a characteristic, proceed as follows:
1. Display the where-used list for data element RKEG_PAPH1 in database fields using transaction SE12. For hierarchy field PAPH1 to be adapted, a data conversion must be carried out for all the tables listed!
2. First change the number of characters in the domain RKEG_PAPH1 to match the new definition of the product hierarchy, following the example below. You can do this using transaction SE11.
Structure PRODHS     Domain
Field    Length      name       Number of characters
PRODH1     3         RKEG_PAPH1      3
PRODH2     2         RKEG_PAPH2      5
PRODH3     5         RKEG_PAPH3     10
PRODH4     8         RKEG_PAPH4     18

Just as Info,
I needed to go for deletion of those characteristics - quite some work, like:
1. delete all where-used entries for the characteristics in ALL CLIENTS of this system (important: e.g. planning layout - recommended to change and not simply delete, because the change can be transported)
2. when then trying to delete characteristics (with "unlock" in KEA0 > value fields) - tons of tables and strucutres popped up, where this data element is still needed - follow note 353257
3. generate best practice operating concern new (10UK in our case)
4. create PAPH1 etc. new from table MARA (not mvke in our case - depends)
all good - hopefully no issues after transport - we will see.

  • Wanted - Production Strength Function Example - Best Practices

    Hi All,
    I'm just starting PL/SQL (transitioning from other languages)
    It's recommended that you always use FUNCTIONS + RESULT_CACHE - for performance / abstraction - but the examples shows don't seem to be 'production ready'
    For example;
    create or replace FUNCTION GET_ACCOUNT
    (i1_account_no IN T_ACCOUNT.ACCOUNT_NO%TYPE)
    RETURN T_ACCOUNT%ROWTYPE
    RESULT_CACHE RELIES_ON (T_ACCOUNT)
    IS
    account_row T_ACCOUNT%ROWTYPE;
    BEGIN
    SELECT *
    INTO account_row
    FROM MDR.T_ACCOUNT
    WHERE ACCOUNT_NO = i1_account_no;
    END;
    RETURN account_row;
    END GET_ACCOUNT;
    so I presume;
    1) I need exception handling / error logging
    2) I'd like to return 'more' details to the caller, something like
    DECLARE
    TYPE io_reply_type IS RECORD
    (rcode INTEGER := -1, -- return code
    rmsg VARCHAR(2000) := '', -- error message etc
    account T_ACCOUNT%ROWTYPE
    io_reply io_reply_type;
    But there doesn't appear to be a way to define a 'global' record structure - or will using 'packages' allow me to do that.
    TIA
    Bill

    1) I need exception handling / error loggingWhy? What are you going to do with which exception? There need to be valid reasons for code to trap an exception. Exception handlers are exceptions in themselves. Most code units do not need it - as most code units cannot fix the exception and has no reason to react to an exception.
    2) I'd like to return 'more' details to the caller, something like
    DECLARE
    TYPE io_reply_type IS RECORD
    (rcode INTEGER := -1, -- return code
    rmsg VARCHAR(2000) := '', -- error message etc
    account T_ACCOUNT%ROWTYPE
    );Wrong. This is NOT how error handling works in ANY language.
    You either catch the exception and fix it (no error occurred from caller's perspective). Or you propagate the exception up the call stack for the caller to deal with.
    Returning an exception as an output variable/record of some type? Wrong in Java. Wrong in .Net. Wrong in C++. Wrong in PL/SQL. This violates the basic principle of coding by contract - by not using the default and robust exception management runtime system that exists, but hijacking that, implementing your own, and creating a gross inconsistent behaviour that the caller does not expect, using data structures that the caller does not know about.

  • What are the best practices for generating an EPS logo from InDesign?

    Our costomer is running into technical issues with the logo we sent them, which was exported from Indesign. Images were not embedded and fonts missing. I was able to embed the images and fonts. However, we DO NOT want them to be able to make any text changes. So after exporting an eps, I opened the file in Adobe Illustrator and made all the text outlines. I hope this works. But I just wanted to post the question on what are the best practices for doing this?
    The client needs the logo with transparent background, images emebdded and type in outlines. Also, they need some space around the text. When I exported the eps, the file is right up on the edge of the type.

    It sounds like you are pretty far from "best practice" with regard to logo design and delivery.
    These days, the very use of the EPS format should be considered bad practice, and some other terms in your post, (i.e., 'images,' 'missing fonts'), make it sound like there is not a seasoned logo designer involved.
    That said, you probably already got the advice you need to get out of the immediate jam. However, without proper logo design, you and the client will soon be facing other problems. You should be delivering a 100% vector graphic in single-color (black) and corporate-color(s) versions, with no live font data, that has been test-scaled to very small and very large sizes; ensuring it will work at postage-stamp size and on the side of a truck or building, with specific spot color(s) and proportions that will enable it to be offset printed, embroidered and screen-printed on apparel, and cut into signage materials and decals.

  • Best practice for the Update of SAP GRC CC Rule Set

    Hi GRC experts,
    We have in a CC production system a SoD matrix that we would like to modified extensively. Basically by activating many permissions.
    Which is a best practice for accomplish our goal?
    Many thanks in advance. Best regards,
      Imanol

    Hi Simon and Amir
    My name is Connie and I work at Accenture GRC practice (and a colleague of Imanolu2019s). I have been reading this thread and I would like to ask you a question that is related to this topic. We have a case where a Global Rule Set u201CLogic Systemu201D and we may also require to create a Specific Rule Set. Is there a document (from SAP or from best practices) that indicate the potential impact (regarding risk analysis, system performance, process execution time, etc) caused by implementing both type of rule sets in a production environment? Are there any special considerations to be aware? Have you ever implemented this type of scenario?
    I would really appreciate your help and if you could point me to specific documentation could be of great assistance. Thanks in advance and best regards,

  • EFashion sample Universes and best practices?

    Hi experts,
    Do you all think that the eFashion sample Universe was developed based on the best practices of Universe design? Below is one of my questions/problems:
    Universe is designed to hide technical details and answer all valid business questions (queries/reports). For non-sense questions, it will show 'incompatible' etc. In the eFashion sample, I tried to compose a query to answer "for a period of time, e.g. from 2008.5 to 2008.9, in each week for each product (article), it's MSRP (sales price) and sold_price and margin and quantity_sold and promotion_flag". I grabed the Product.SKUnumber, week from Time period, Unit Price MSRP from Product, Sold at (unit price) from Product, Promotions.promotion, Margin and Quantity sold from Measures into the Query Panel. It gives me 'incompatible' error message when I try to run it. I think the whole sample (from database data model to Universe schema structure/joins...) is flawed. In the Product_promotion_facts table, it seems that if a promotion lasts for more than one week, the weekid will be the starting week and duration will indicate how long it lasts. In this design, to answer "what promotions run in what weeks" will not be easy because you need to join the Product_promotion_facts with Time dimention using "time.weekid between p_prom.weekid and p_prom.weekid+duration" assuming weekid is in sequence, instead of simple "time.weekid=p_prom.weekid".  The weekid joins between Shop_fact and product_promotion_facts and Calendar_year_lookup are very confusing because one is about "the week the sales happened" and the other "the week the promotion started". No tools can smart enough to resolve this ambitious automatically. Then the shortcut join between shop_facts and product_promotion_facts. it's based on the articleid alone. obviously the two have to be joined on both article and time (using between/and, not the simple weekid=weekid in this design), otherwise the join doesn't make sense (a sale of one article on one day joins to all the promotions to this article of all time?).
    What do you think?
    thanks.
    Edward

    You seem to have the idea that finding out whether a project uses "best practices" is the same as finding out whether a car is blue. Or perhaps you think there is a standards board somewhere which reviews projects for the use of "best practices".
    Well, it isn't like that. The most cynical viewpoint is that "best practices" is simply an advertising slogan used by IT consultants to make them appear competent to their prospective clients. But basically it's a value judgement. For example using Hibernate may be a good thing to do in many projects, but there are projects where it would not be a good thing to do. So you can't just say that using Hibernate is a "best practice".
    However it's always a good idea to keep your source code in a repository (CVS, Subversion, git, etc.) so I think most people would call that a "best practice". And you could talk about software development techniques, but "best practice" for a team of three is very different from "best practice" for a team of 250.
    So you aren't going to get a one-paragraph description of what features you should stick in your project to qualify as "best practices". And you aren't going to get a checklist off the web whereby you can rate yourself for "best practices" either. Or if you do, you'll find that the "best practice" involves buying something from the people who provided the checklist.

  • Error while Connecting report Best Practices v1.31 with SAP

    Hello experts,
    I'm facing an issue while trying to connect some of my reports from Best Practices for BI with SAP.
    It only happens when it's about info sets, the other ones that are with SAP tables go smoothly without a problem.
    The most interesting is I have already one of the reports connected to SAP info sets.
    I have already verified the document of steps of creation of additional database that comes with BP pack. They seem ok.
    Here goes what Crystal Reports throws to me after changing the data source to SAP:
    For report "GL Statement" one of the Financial Analysis one which uses InfoSet: /KYK/IS_FIGL_I3:
    - Failed to retrieve data from the database; - click ok then...
    - Database connector error: It wasn't indicated any variant for exercise (something like this after translating) - click ok then
    - Database connector error: RFC_INVALID_HANDLE
    For report "Cost Analysis: Planned vs. Actual Order Costs" one of the Financial Analysis one which uses InfoSet: ZBPBI131_INFO_ODVR and ZBPBI131_INFO_COAS; and also the Query CO_OM_OP_20_Q1:
    - Failed to retrieve data from the database; - click ok then...
    - Database connector error: check class for selections raised errors - click ok then
    - Database connector error: RFC_INVALID_HANDLE
    Obs.: Those "Z" infosets are already created in SAP environment.
    The one that works fine is one of the Purchasing Analysis reports:
    - Purchasing Group Analysis -> InfoSet: /KYK/IS_MCE1
    I'm kind of lost to solve this, because I'm not sure if it can be in the SAP JCO or some parameter that was done wrongly in SAP and I have already check possible solutions for both.
    Thanks in advance,
    Carlos Henrique Matos da Silva - SAP BusinessObjects BI - Brazil.

    I re-checked step 3.2.3 - Uploading Crystal User Roles (transaction PFCG) - of the manual where it talks about CRYSTAL_ENTITLEMENT and CRYSTAL_DESIGNER roles, I noticed in the Authorizations tab that the status was saying it hadn't been generated and I had a yellow sign, so then that was what I did (I generated) as it says in the manual.
    Both statuses are now saying "Authorization profile is generated" and the sign is now green on the tab.
    I had another issue in the User tab (it was yellow as Authorizations one before generating)....all I needed to do to change to green was comparing user (User Comparison button).
    After all that, I tried once more to refresh the Crystal report and I still have the error messages being thrown.
    There's one more issue in one of the tabs of PFCG transaction, it is on the Menu one where it is with a red sign, but there's nothing talking about it in the manual. I just have a folder called "Role menu" without anything in it.
    Can it be the reason why I'm facing errors when connecting the report to SAP infoSets? (remember one of my reports which is connected to an infoSet works good)
    Thanks in advance,
    Carlos Henrique Matos da Silva - SAP BusinessObjects BI - Brazil.

  • Bad bind variable & best practice for delete

    I am working with three tables and very new to SQL. I need to create a procedure that will accept an ID and go through two sub tables and delete child records. Item is the main table. I am passing in the ID into the procedure and I want to use it as below. I keep getting a bad bind variable error message. I have verified that the table is setup as a number and my procedure accepts a number. I also want someone to review this from best practice as I am new to procedures.
    PROCEDURE DeleteItem (p_ItemID IN NUMBER, p_RowsAffected OUT number)
    IS
    p_RowsAffected NUMBER;
    -- select the itemdetail for the analysis
    CURSOR c_itemdetail
    IS
    SELECT
    itemdetailid
    FROM itemDETAIL
    WHERE itemid = :p_ItemID;
    BEGIN
    -- loop through each itemdetail and delete the itemdetailoutlay
    FOR r_itemdetail IN c_itemdetail
    LOOP
    BEGIN
    DELETE FROM ITEMDETAILOUTLAY
    WHERE itemdetailid = r_itemdetail.itemdetailid;
    COMMIT;
    END;
    END LOOP;
    -- delete the itemdetail
    BEGIN
    DELETE FROM ITEMDETAIL
    WHERE itemid = :p_ItemID;
    COMMIT;
    END;
    -- delete the main item
    BEGIN
    DELETE FROM ITEM
    WHERE itemdid = :p_ItemID;
    COMMIT;
    p_RowsAffected := SQL%ROWCOUNT;
    END;
    END DeleteItem;

    Hi,
    Welcome to the forum!
    As you may notice, this site normally compresses white-space. Whenever you post code, or any formatted text, on this site, type these 6 characters:
    \(small letters only, inside curly brackets) before and after each section of formatted text, to preserve spacing.
    I don't think you mean to use bind variables anywhere, so don't use colons before any variable names.  You were doing this correctly with p_RowsAffected; do the same thing with p_ItemID.
    Try this:PROCEDURE DeleteItem (p_ItemID IN NUMBER, p_RowsAffected OUT number)
    IS
    -- p_RowsAffected NUMBER;     -- Don't name local variables the same as arguments
    -- select the itemdetail for the analysis
    CURSOR c_itemdetail
    IS
    SELECT
    itemdetailid
    FROM itemDETAIL
    WHERE itemid = p_ItemID;     -- No : before p_ItemID
    BEGIN
    -- loop through each itemdetail and delete the itemdetailoutlay
    FOR r_itemdetail IN c_itemdetail
    LOOP
    BEGIN
    DELETE FROM ITEMDETAILOUTLAY
    WHERE itemdetailid = r_itemdetail.itemdetailid;
    COMMIT;
    END;
    END LOOP;
    -- delete the itemdetail
    BEGIN
    DELETE FROM ITEMDETAIL
    WHERE itemid = p_ItemID;     -- No : before p_ItemID
    COMMIT;
    END;
    -- delete the main item
    BEGIN
    DELETE FROM ITEM
    WHERE itemdid = p_ItemID;     -- No : before p_ItemID
    COMMIT;
    p_RowsAffected := SQL%ROWCOUNT;
    END;
    END DeleteItem;
    The most important "best practice" with PL/SQL is to avoid doing it whenever possible.
    If SQL offers a way o do the same thing, it's usally best not to code anything in PL/SQL.
    Have you considered foreign key constraints, with "ON DELETE CASCADE"?  That way, you could simply "DELETE FROM item", and all the dependent rows in the other tables would automatically be deleted.   You wouldn't need to remember to call a procedure like this; in fact, you would have no need for a procedure like this.
    Given that you do have such a procedure:
    You're doing row-by-row processing, which some mad wags like to call "slow-by-slow" processing.
    For example, iYou're xplicitly finding each ItemDetailID separately, and deleting each one separately, like this:... CURSOR c_itemdetail
    IS
    SELECT
    itemdetailid
    FROM itemDETAIL
    WHERE itemid = p_ItemID;
    -- loop through each itemdetail and delete the itemdetailoutlay
    FOR r_itemdetail IN c_itemdetail
    LOOP
    BEGIN
    DELETE FROM ITEMDETAILOUTLAY
    WHERE itemdetailid = r_itemdetail.itemdetailid;
    COMMIT;
    END;
    END LOOP;
    It's more efficient for the system (and less coding for you) if you let SQL handle as much as possible, so do this instead...     DELETE FROM ItemDetailOutlay
         WHERE ItemDetailID IN
              ( SELECT itemdetailid
              FROM     itemDETAIL
              WHERE     itemid     = p_ItemID
    Do you really want to COMMIT 3 times?  0 or 1 times might be better.
    What happens if there is some kind of error, say, after you've delete rows form ItemDetailOutlay and ItemDetail, but before you've delete from Item?  Wouldn't you want the entire transaction to fail, and leave all three tables in a consistent state?  If so, either have the calling procedure COMMIT, or have a single COMMIT at the end of DelteItem.

  • Best Practices v3.31 - SAP InfoSet Query connection

    Hi,
    I have a problem with adapting a Crystal Report from Best Practices for Business Intelligence v3.31 to SAP system. The report "Cost Analysis Planned vs. Actual Order Costs.rpt" is using SAP InfoSet Query "CO_OM_OP_20_Q1". This InfoSet Query is working fine in SAP. My SAP-User has access to the following user groups:
    - /SREP/IS_UG
    - /KYK/IS_UG
    - ZBPBI131_USR
    The Controlling Area in SAP is '1000'. Crystal Reports generates this error message:
    - Failed to retrieve data from the database.
    - Database Connector Error: "Controlling area does not exist"
    - Database Connector Error: 'RFC_CLOSED'
    But InfoSet Query "CO_OM_CA_20_Q1" has no problem with Controlling Area '1000' in Crystal Reports and is working fine in SAP!
    Can somebody help?
    Thanks in advance.
    Peter

    Hello Peter,
    I'm using Best Practices for BI v1.31 and this one also has this report you are talking about.
    I face the same issue when trying to adapt it to my ERP, but if I run it in SAP GUI, it goes smoothly without any issue.
    Please advise,
    Thanks in advance,

  • SAP Best Practice for Water Utilities v 1.600

    Hi All,
    I want to install SAP Best Practice for Water Utilities v 1.600. I have downloaded the package (now  available only Mat.No. 50079055 "Docu: SAP BP Water Utilities-V1.600")  from Marketplace, but there is NO transport file included on it. It only contains documentation.  Should I use the transport file from Best Practice for Utilities v 1.500?
    Thank you,
    Vladimir

    Hello!
    The file should contain eCATTs with data according to best practice preconfigured scenarios and transactions to install them.
    Some information about preconfigured scenario you could find here:
    http://help.sap.com/bp_waterutilv1600/index.htm -> Business Information -> Preconfigured Scenarios
    Under the "Installation" path you could find "Scenario Installation Guide" for Water Utilities.
    I hope it would be helpful.

  • Best Practice Question - Activate Company Code - Open client or transport?

    Hello.
    When activating Company Codes in a newly productive system, is it best practice to do it directly in an open client, or to change the setting via transport?
    Thanks and Regards,
    D Flores

    What do you mean by activating company code?
    Is it productive check box you are talking about in OBY6.
    If so, open client for manual change, make the setting and put it back the client settings.

  • How/where do I get BPR-content for SAP best practices into solar01/solar02?

    I am looking to use SAP Solution Manager to perform a blueprint & (parts of) a configuration/realization with a number of SAP ERP best practices as the starting point. Unfortunately the BPR-content for my solman seems to be missing as I cannot find any of the processes defined on http://service.sap.com/bestpractices when scoping the blueprint for my project in solar01. We have ST ICO150 loaded, or so I am told.
    Is there additional content out there somewhere so I can add processes/scenarios into solar01 from best practices?

  • What is the best practice to deploy the SharePoint site from test to production environment?

    We are beginning to start a new SharePoint 2010 and 2013 development projects, soon developing new features, lists, workflows, customizations to the SharePoint site, customization to list forms and would like to put good practice (that will help in deployment)
    in place before going ahead with development.
    What is the best way to go about deploying my site from Development to Production?
    I am using Visual Studio 2012 and also have Designer 2013...
    I have already read that this can be done through powershell, also through visual studio and also via designer. But at this point I am confused as to which are best practices specifically for lists, configurations; workflows; site customizations; Visual studio
    development features; customization to list forms etc. You can also provide me reference to links/ebook covering this topic.
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi Nachiket,
    You can follow below approach where the environments has been built in similar fashion
    http://thesharepointfarm.com/sharepoint-test-environments/
    if you have less data then you can use  http://spdeploymentwizard.codeplex.com/
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/b0bdb2ec-4005-441a-a233-7194e4fef7f7/best-way-to-replicate-production-sitecolletion-to-test-environment?forum=sharepointadminprevious
    For custom solutions like workflows etc you can always build the WSP packages and deploy across the environments using powershell scripts.
    Hope this helps.

  • Best practices for deployment from Dev /Staging /Production in SharePoint ?

    Hi All,
    What is a best practices to deploy SharePoint Portal to dev / staging / Production.
    I have custom solution deployed using WSP file. But I have done some changes using sharepoint designer.
    Like as Designer workflow, master pages etc.
    How can I deploy my document libraries and list to dev to prod using best practices?
    Thanks
    Balaji More

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to know the best practices to deploy SharePoint Portal in different SharePoint environment.
    If the site is not existing in the production server, we can save the site from the development server, and then import it to the production server.
    But if the site is already existing in the production server, we should follow these steps to just add the taxonomy and content types to the production server:
    Save the site from Dev as a template
    Import the template as solution in Visual Studio
    Remove unnecessary items from the solution(Please pay more      attention on it. If a content type/list... in the solution is existing in      the production site too, it will replace the
    same object existing in the      production after deployment)
    Package the solution
    Deploy the solution in the production

  • Best Practice on Moving Standard Hierarchy (Cost /Profit)  into production

    Hi,
    What is the best practice to move standard hierarchy into production? Is it better to move it as a transport? Or is it better to upload into production with LSMW?
    Thanks,
    Santoshi

    Hi,
    Best practices applied to all developments whether it is R/3, BI modelling or Reporting and as per the best practice we do development in Development system, testing in testing box and finally deploy successful development to production. yes for user analysis purpose, user can do adhoc analysis or in some scenario they create user specific custom queries (sometimes reffere as X-query created by super user).
    So it is always to do all yr developement in Development Box and then transport to Production after successful QA testing.
