Here is an example of what I'm talking about. Grabs taken

No "method completion" hint like I would get in Studio 8:

And I get all the AS3 methods and properties because there is
apparently no way to tell Flash that I want this .as file to be an

Flash CS3 even worse than Studio 8 for authoring AS 2.0 classes?

  • Flash Builder 4.6 code hinter problem - not showing some methods

    Hi All,
    I have a problem with FB code hinter. It does not show some methods on an object.
    To be exact I created a Date object and FB code hinter does not show .toDateString method (actually I it shows only one to string method - .ToString(), although according to docs there are more)
    When I use .toDateString method, code still compiles and work just fine, however method is not showing up in code hinter, which is really annoying..
    Anyone had this problem? If so, please, share some wisdom how to solve this thing.
    Thanks in advance.
    UPDATE:
    Here is some more info in my problem.
    I have tried to reinstall the application, but it did not help.
    So what I did was:
    * first I installed FB standard edition version 4.
    * I checked the code hinter and it worked. It showed .toDateString method.
    * I have purchased FB standard 4.5 upgrade.
    * I installed this upgrade, and boom the code hinter does not show the method...
    * Next I tried to create a project with Flex 4.1 sdk and then it worked - method was there. So the problem is with 4.6 sdk apparently...sucks...

    Hi, I have the same problem. I have a new FB 4.6 installation and it is my first FB installation. Do you have a solution already?

  • Code Hints Problem - CS3

    I just got Flash CS3 today, I have it installed and I
    uninstalled Flash 8 after I installed Flash CS3, the problem is,
    code hints don't display anymore like it did before when I type
    "on(" or whatever, and I really need them, they are my lifesaver.
    Yes, I do have them enabled in the settings, and they just don't
    show up.
    Oh yeah, it doesn't show up for AS3, AS2/Flash Player 8
    settings work fine.
    I'm running Vista.

  • CSS editor code hinting problem

    I have installed ColdFusion Builder (trial version) togeter with Flash Builder, and I experience that code hinting in the CSS editor does not work. If I edit the CSS file, the changes is not updated when I change to browser view. (It works when I usen an external browser). I have tried to install CFB onto a existing Flash Builder standalone, and also tried to Install Flash Builder and CFB onto an Eclipse Helios installation. The CSS editor does not work in any case.
    Somebode have a solution to this problem? I have been in contact with another person that have the same problem. He have solved it temporarily by installing Flash Builder and CFB in two seperate stand alone intsallations.

    Hi Stefan,
    Thanks a lot for your help!
    It works also for me....strange as I didn't find the way to chnage it back to the old way. Probable I have to get use to the new way, however space was more convinient than tab.
    Best regards,

  • VBScript editor with Intellisense/Code Hinting support for Adobe App

    I am looking for some tool to write my InDesign VBScript files in. I would really like to know if there is any which support Intellisense/Code hinting for Adobe programs (InDesign especialy). Do you have anything to recommend?
    I am quite good at hacking my computer, so no registry change etc. is a problem for me, I just can not find any. I already tried PrimalScript 2009 but it doesn not work.
    What I need is that in following block of code
    Set myInDesign = CreateObject("InDesign.Application.CS4")
    Set myDialog = myInDesign.Dialogs.Add
    I will get list of all methods/properties after I write the dot after "myInDesign" in second line. But it never worked. I even tried to put "InDesign.Application.CS4/C:\ProgramData\Adobe\InDesign\Version 6.0\cs_CZ\Scripting Support\6.0\Resources for Visual Basic.tlb" line into Options>Text editor>Type libraries.
    I am using Windows Vista SP1 and I have Adobe Creative Suite CS4 installed (upgrade from CS3 which was upgraded from CS2)
    Thanks a lot for any help/suggestion, as I start feeling desperate.

    Hi Everyone!
    As I have said, I waited for next service release, which is as of now PrimalScript 2009 version 5.0.614 and I did some testing with it.
    Results:
    WinXP EN Professional
    - Just pointing PrimalScript 2009 to typelib, no creative suite installed, working
    - Installed Creative Suite CS3 Czech (trial mode) - Working, no need to setup anything
    - Installed Creative Suite CS3 + CS4 Czech (trial mode) - Need to point PrimalScript 2009 to correct typelib, then 100% working
    Windows Vista SP1 Ultimate EN (in trial/not activated mode)
    - Just pointing PrimalScript 2009 to typelib, no creative suite installed, working
    - Installed Creative Suite CS3 Czech (trial mode) - Need to point PrimalScript 2009 to correct typelib, then 100% working
    - Installed Creative Suite CS3 + CS4 Czech (trial mode) - Need to point PrimalScript 2009 to correct typelib, then 100% working
    Windows 7
    I am not planning to use Win7 in near future, so I did not not run any test on it.
    Windows Vista SP1 Home Premium Slovak (fully activated)
    - Installed Creative Suite CS3 + CS4 Czech (full mode) - Not working. This is my main machine. It is Creative Suite CS2 upgraded to CS3 then CS4 (it is running for years without reinstall). I use CS3/CS4 side by side for some older projects. There are still references to CS2 in registry. I tried pointing PrimalScript 2009 to correct typelib, but to no avail. My conclussion is that there is someting messed with its config or registry, but I am pretty sure it would run after complete system reinstall.
    Both WinXP EN Pro and Vista SP1 Ultimate EN were clean install into MS Virtual PC 2007, with only Creative Suite and PrimalScript 2009 5.0.614 installed into each machine so I made sure there are no other issues involved.
    As I spend 80% of my time with developement of websites and scripting of MS Office/Creative Suite, I have some virtual machines set up for testing purposes. I will use one of them for development in PrimalScript and move it to main (real) Windows Vista Home Premium Slovak installed once I will decide to completely reinstall it. The need for seting up the typelibray link is no deal for me, as it is working as expected then, and I expect a lot ;-)
    So problem solved, I found o program I will use. There may be others which do better or are cheaper (but I do not know about any) but $299 is not a big issue when I get what I want.
    P.S.: The solution with making VBScript code with VBA declaration (using Dim) is not a solution I like, as I would need to comment it out everytime I run/edit  the script and it would be pain in the *** while debugging it as i would need to do lot of comment/uncomment cycles and i can use my ime better then doing the monkey work as some fo the scripts I write are quite huge and I prefer to build them incrementaly and test/debug a lot.
    I wish to thank everyone for their help and suggestions,
    Matus

  • Code hints don't work - include files using a variable

    In Dreamweaver CS 5.5 code hints didn't work properly.
    DW would not look at my code and find the include files and look at the functions inside them when using a variable to make an absolute path, which is the best way to include files in PHP (its faster and more reliable on your web server)
    Here is an example:
    ======================================
    public_html/util/util_index.php
    $DIR_MAIN            =dirname(dirname(__FILE__).'../');
    require_once "$DIR_MAIN/init.php";
    my_function(#CODE COMPLETE DOES NOT WORK HERE
    public_html/init.php
    $DIR_INCLUDE=               "$DIR_MAIN/inc";
    require "$DIR_INCLUDE/common_functions.php";
    #set up environment variables
    #connect to the database
    #etc
    public_html/inc/common_functions.php
    function my_function(param1, param2, param3) {
    =======================================
    Has this been fixed in Dreamweaver CS6 or should I wait until CS7?
    Until this works, I prefer Notepad++

    I made a full SQL Developer installation with Java included, so I suppose that the included version is used.
    After a problem with the German Version I tried to switch to English Version by using the hint:
    link: 1.5.4 export insert statements
    I changed the content of sqldeveloper.conf and now again the code templates (strg-shift-t) don't work!!!
    (I already rebooted and set the accelerators to default, but it didn't help now.)
    This is the content of my sqldeveloper.conf now:
    "IncludeConfFile ../../ide/bin/ide.conf

  • (.asc) Code Hinting in Flash Professional CS5.5 || Flash Builder 4.5

    Problem:  I would like to enable code hinting and highlighting in either Flash Professional or Flash Builder when developing an Actionscript Communications File (.asc).
    Steps Taken:
    Searched Google with limited success, most signs all pointed to FMSGuru.com where one may obtain an Eclipse Plugin, but:
    It was created in 2007 (likely out dated)
    It has known bugs that haven't been addressed
    Searched this forum / adobe's web site to find a solution, to no avail.
    Posted this, now, in an attempt to put this to rest
    Request:  If anyone knows how I can enable FP or FB to give code hints / syntax highlighting, I would really apprecaite some direction.  If not, I appreciate the fact you even read this.
    Have a good one. Happy Coding.

    To note, Dreamweaver has the ability to provide code hinting if I remember correctly but I'm perpetually disappointed in the FMS team for not providing even ONE item that helps in the development of server side coding for FMS. They have never provided anything and it's been up to the good will of developers for the platform to put together tools. As it is now, you'll probably never see anything better as most people (that I know of) have moved away from FMS, partially for this reason despite multiple requests that Adobe do something. Not to insult the FMS team, as they do what they have to do to pull in the paycheck, and the bean counters provide that and seem to be making most of the decisions.
    ok. rant all done now

  • Flash Builder - No Code Hinting For New Flash Professional Project??

    I had been using flash builder as an as3 editor and compiling from flash builder. The Flash Professional Project in Flash Builder seems perfect. It will give me the flexibility to compile from Flash Professional, or compile from the flex sdk, use breakpoints, have all my files nicely in the package explorer.
    However, it has been a terrible terrible experience. For some reason code hinting is completely turned off on all levels in Flash Professional Projects. I have been looking in every preference panel trying to figure out why this is happening. If it is actually the case that you get no code hinting whatsoever then they really should not have even bothered adding this into Flash Builder because coding in this fashion is a joke.
    However, I am still optimistic about it. Can someone help me turn on code hinting?

    Ok. Solved it. The issue was that we were using linked source code and library swcs that were all located under the same directory. When you pull up the project's properties and go to "Flex Build Path" under the "Source Path" tab you can add that directory without a problem. However, under the "Library Path" instead of just adding the directory, I added each swc individually and that solved my problem. Now all the code hinting is working perfectly.

  • Code hints interface and compilation is too slow,who can help me?

    I used  Flashcc to generate the SWC library, after quote the library in my project,  the pop-up of code hints interface is very slow (about 30 seconds), and the project compilation speed is very slow.It is unbearable!is there  any method can improve the situation?thank you!!

    Sounds like you might have a configuration issue on the o/s side.
    Check that kernel parameters are set as recommended in the installation guide
    The first thing that came to mind after reading the problem description was that you might have too low SHMMAX for that 10GB SGA, which would cause multiple shm segments to be created and thus explain the performance degration you're experiencing.
    A quick way to check if that's the case would be doing "ipcs -m" to see if there are multiple shm segments when SGA is set to 10GB.

  • CSS Code Hints

    I use Dreamweaver 8 at work and at home. The exact same
    version. However at work, when I type:
    background:[space]
    I get a Code Hint popup, allowing me to pick a color, URL, or
    several background options. Well at home, it works the same,
    however if i continue, like this:
    background: #FFFFFF[space]
    at work, I get the same popup again, but at home, it doesn't
    pop it up a second time. Same for borders and other shorthand
    items. I found an option in the Preferences called CSS Styles, and
    I checked all those boxes, but I think that just made matters worse
    and did not resolve my problem. I just checked and those options
    aren't even selected on my work computer. So what's different that
    would cause those code-hints not to pop up at home. Could it be a
    plug-in (or extension). This copy at work is a very new install,
    but mine at home is rather old. Any ideas?

    Maybe you misunderstood. I'm not having a problem writing in
    shorthand, my problem is if I try to add more than one attribute to
    property of a given style. For instance:
    .style {
    background: url(img/bg.jpg) repeat-y top center #EEEEEE;
    as opposed to
    .style {
    background-color: #EEEEEE;
    background-image: url(img/bg.jpg);
    background-repeat: repeat-y;
    background-position: top center;
    See, if i use each of those attributes, the dialog comes up
    fine, but when using shorthand, it's supposed to come up with all
    the available options, like:
    COLOR, -> Opens the Color Picker
    URL, - > Opens the Browse Dialog
    no-repeat, -> (option for background-repeat)
    repeat-x, -> (option for background-repeat)
    none, -> (option for background)
    transparent, -> (option for background)
    top, -> (option for background-position)
    left, -> (option for background-position)
    etc.
    Also, CTRL + SPACE only pulls up tags, not attributes.

  • Change colors in code hint

    Hello,
    is there any way to change the hover color in the content
    assist (code hint)? The current color (light blue) is hardly
    visible and I cannot see the current item the mouse is over.
    Thanks,
    have fun

    Well in my previous posting I did not mention the OS. The
    problem appears in Windows Vista and nothing is wrong with Flex.
    This light-pale blue is the same that appears in context menus and
    in the start menu. I searched a lot in google and I found that a
    way to change this color is to edit msstyle or use a third party
    program like windowblinds. Not to mention that a lot of people
    complain about this color.
    Anyway, in Windows XP everything is ok.
    Have fun

  • Dreamweaver CS3 Code Hints

    Has anyone experienced problems with DW CS3's code hints for
    ColdFusion? I've installed the CF8 extensions, but the code hints
    don't work properly in Windows XP (My Mac version works fine).
    Basically, the "hints" for tags work, but only to an extent.
    For example, I've found the code hints for CFWINDOW do not provide
    the color picker for bgcolor in the style attribute. Funny quirks
    such as that.

    are you implying that the newer versions of IIS might be more up to date than the cs3 dreamweaver and that is where my problems will arise?
    I am not implying anything.  I am simply wondering if the IIS is configured properly.  Have you tried creating a basic static page and load it in your browser to see if it loads OK?
    Obviously, without looking at your code it is almost impossible to say anything meaningful.  However, I suggest post your query at this link:

  • Flash CS 5.5 code hinting

    Hi all ! Hope someone can help me!
    I just got Flash CS 5.5 on my Mac and code hinting is not working at all... I tried many of the suggestions in the different threads concerning this problem to no avail... It just is broken! Used to work quite well in CS4...
    I was pretty mad when they removed the built in AS dictionary which was a great tool... Now code hinting doesn't seem to exist anymore? I can't get anything: not even pressing ctrl-space bar or clicking the code hinting icon in the AS editor window...
    This is really bothering me and I hope someone can help me out!?
    What's the point in paying for very expensive upgrades if they keep on removing features...?

    This is driving me nuts... NUTS! Does anybody at Adobe even care? How come there are still problems with this?
    I tried every  suggestion I could find online, from "disabling and then enabling code hints in the prefs" to "deleting the CodeModel folder", but still no code hinting. It doesn't even work now after pressing CTRL + SPACE, neither the Show code hint button works. Absolutely nothing for AS3. One day it simply decided to stop working. I haven't added any additional library nor anything. For AS2 it works fine tho...

  • Flash CS5 code hinting not working?

    Just installed the new Flash CS5 trial and code hinting doesn't appear to be working! I have added all my custom class paths in to the AS3 source paths, but I don't get any code hinting for any of these just the same old code hinting you get in CS4. Am I doing something wrong or does it just not work?
    UPDATE: If it helps, in the code editor i get a small yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in, in the bottom right hand corner. When I have over this it advises me:
    " *** Unable to build code hint cache. Please save the associated FLA into a different folder. There are too many files on the classpath. *** "
    This error message appears no matter what FLA/Class i open, and moving it makes no difference.
    UPDATE: Problem solved, the "There are too many files on the classpath" was the clue! Slimmed down my library and all seems to work now.
    However, this does bring me on to another question.. does anyone know how many class files flash can comfortably cache? I use some fairly chunky libraries in my work and am wondering if i'm going to find myself constantly slimming them down after a while?

    The reason everyone gives for AS3 is that AS2 was buggy.
    I don't think so. AS3 is a better language, better designed, more consistent, more powerful. I would switch to AS3 for that, not because of bugs - but I don't know what's the reason behind everyone's choice.
    AS2 was not buggy, people were writing buggy scripts
    AS2 was buggy. Maybe people were writing buggy scripts too, but believe me it was buggy. However AS3 is at the very least equally buggy. It is better designed, more consistent, but equally buggy in its implementation.
    All software have bugs, but programming languages usually undergo a stricter and more thorough revision than other kinds of sofware because the consequences of bugs in a programming language are more disastrous.
    But that's not the case of ActionScript. Maybe because of its history and its legacy, or maybe because Adobe was always dedicated to completely different kinds of software, like PhotoShop, Premiere and the like, and suddenly dove into the business of developing a programming language without having the know-how.
    The level of bugginess of ActionScript is amazing. I work with actionscript daily and there's no day that I don't run 4 ot 5 times into some problem due to some bug. Not that I discover new bugs every day, just run into them - sometimes they are already reported, other times they are not.
    Why should something that took one line of code (clicking on a movieClip
    to move to a frame) now take 5 or more lines of code (creating a
    listener object, assigning a listener object, writing a function).
    It often happens that a language that is in the overall more elegant, consistent and compact, turns out to need a bit more of code for doing the simplest things. Maybe what could be done with 1 line of code now takes 5, but things that took 1000 lines of cumbersome awkward tricky and hacky code can now be done with just 100 of readable and simple-to-understand code.
    When I first learned Java I was surprised at the quantity of code I had to write just to make a program that would print "hello world", while in most dialects of Basic it was just:
    10 PRINT "Hello world"
    Would you say Basic is superior to Java in any sense?
    I teach Flash at a university, both beginner and advanced users. [...]
    I'll stick to AS2 in my classes.
    You should think about the damage you may be doing to your students. If they are going to use ActionScript professionally, they'll have to learn AS3, rather sooner than later. So why not save them the pain to do the effort twice? If instead you are teaching them AS just for didactic purposes (i.e. for learning programming in general) and don't care about practical applications and you don't like the way AS has evolved (i.e. AS3), then consider teaching them another language, instead of an obsolete version of a current one.
    AS3 is not more complicated, or difficult to learn, or less designer-friendly or non-programmer-friendly than AS2. Not at all; rather the opposite. It is more complicated and difficult to learn when you already know AS2, because you feel like everything you knew is useless - but the same can be said about learning AS2 when you already know AS3. Starting from scratch, AS3 is indeed simpler.
    But this have drifted OT, sorry. Back to the topic:
    It's not an app killer, just a minor inconvenience
    It's a major inconvenience if writing the same amount of code takes you three times the time it should take. That in 2010 you have to spell every single property/method/class name entirely from the first to the last letter, when most of the time it should be just a matter of typing a couple of characters and hit tab, is simply ridiculous. You may as well write your code with NotePad. Flash is (among other things) an IDE - something Adobe seemed to neglect up to recently; and when they finally decided to take a step into making it work like any other decent IDE, it does not work!!
    There are bigger things to complain about.
    On this you are definitely right.
    Using their pretty remarkable products (where would we be without PS or
    DW?) is not a right, it's a (sometimes frustrating) privilege.
    It's a privilege you pay for. That's when it becomes a right.
    So Adobe mods, we're frustrated but only because we're all loyal users who depend on your products
    (emphasis is mine)
    Exactly. That's the point.
    Note there's been no helpful answer from them yet: that's how much they care about loyal users who depend on their products.

  • Adobe Flash CC 2014 Code Hint - Unable to build code hint cache...

    Hello! I just downloaded and tried to use Flash CC 2014. Code Hinting doesn't work! So I tried some way to bring it back. And the following solution worked:
    1. Quit Flash
    2. Delete Code Hint Folder: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Flash CC 2014\en_US\Configuration\CodeModel
    3. Open Flash and create a new document. Edit => Preferences => Code Editor. Change "Cache Files" to 1500
    4. write: import<space>
    You should see that warning: "Building Code Hint Cache...". If not, press Ctrl + <Space>
    5. Wait 1 minute and enjoy your code hinting
    Hope this help for someone...
    (Sorry for my poor English)

    I have the very same problem, Im on OSX though (Mavericks), but I found the CodeModel folder in Library/Application Support/Adobe... and deleted it.
    Followed all the steps and nothing still happens when I type import followed by the spacebar. I havent seen any "cache being built" messages.
    I have the latest version of Flash CC 2014 according to my CC manager.
    Please help, coding suddenly became really difficult.
    Regards
    Edit: I have also not deleted the "." folder in the Source Path
