Code in my website

Hi everyone,
I have recently made a website using Dreamweaver and was told
by some coder that the code on my site was a mess. I have redone my
site, could someone take a look at my code and let me know if they
think it is OK? (I have not got that much expeirence in coding)

I have had a look, and I have seen much worse code, but it's
not up to
the standard I would expect of someone doing this
professionally.
First of all, let me say that the site looks good. It's the
coding you
need to smarten up.
So, what's wrong?
First of all, there's no rhyme or reason behind the way
you're using
h5 and h6 tags for important information. Heading tags are
intended to
structure the document logically: the top level should be h1,
subheadings should be h2, and lower level headings should be
h3.
All your heading tags and paragraphs are followed by line
breaks (<br
/>). This is totally unnecessary, as headings and
paragraphs are
block-level elements that force the next content onto a new
line.
You're also suffering from a common disease of CSS beginners:
"classitis" - everything is a class. You need to learn how to
use the
CSS cascade so that elements inherit properties and values
from their
parent elements. A simple example is that just about every
class
contains exactly the same declaration for font-family. Since
you want
to use the same font-family everywhere, that rule should go
in the
body style block, and it will be automatically applied to the
whole
page.
Also, running your page through the W3C validator shows
there's a
stray closing </div> tag tag on line 83.

Where is View Source? How can the source code of a website be viewed?
View Source used to be accessed via a drop-down menu, but no longer. Why?
    I'm using Firefox 24.0.

    1.)Get into Firefox.
2.)open any page that you want to see the source code.
3.)After complete opening of the page do"right click"then you can see view page source, click it to see Source of the page.
    Thank you.

Does anyone know how you can do this via iweb?

Robert ~ Welcome to the discussions. In the upper right of this forum's main page is a Search Forum bar. If you enter:

  • How do I write code for a website that is viewed in different browsers?

Hello.  My website looks fine when using the Firefox and Safari browsers.  But when I went to the library and viewed it using Internet Explorer, it looks bad.  It doesn't look the way I want it to.  Many of the elements are in different positions, etc.  I thought about how to correct this.  And I'm guessing that another html file can be created with another style sheet attached and designed just for Internet Explorer.  But then I thought about how the server would determine which file to use when the visitor types in the URL.  I have no idea how to do this.  I would greatly appreciate knowing how to write code that enables visitors, whether they use Firefox or Internet Explorer, to view my website that has the same style and elements in the correct positions on each webpage.   Thank you very much.

You need to close your img tags (shown below in red).
    <img src="images/home_page/snowscene_web.jpg" />
    <img src="images/home_page/2011-1_201_p5_christians_nora_pixel2_2_web.jpg" />
    <img src="images/home_page/poster_final_web.jpg" />
Your home page looks OK in IE8 & 9 but looks bad in Compatablity Mode (which is essentially IE7).  Try adding this META tag just below your <title> tags.  This will force older IE browser into IE8 or IE9 standards mode if it's available.  IE7 is pretty much obsolete now.

I downloaded HTML code that creates a clock with the date & time to paste into my website. How do I paste the code into the site?
I tried pasting the code onto the page in iWeb and it just shows up as if its just text.

Yes, though I don't know if it applies to exactly what you want to do:

  • HTML Code for Full Website and Not Mobile. Site

A frustration with iPhone browsers is that they force you to view the mobile website, as oppose to the full website, if a mobile site exists. Unfortunately, the mobile sites often do not provide the services the full sites do.
Is there HTML coding that can be added to a link to get the iPhone to the full site?

The sites that are directing you to a mobile site is using HTML code to do so. What you really want is for those site to NOT have code redirecting you to a mobile site.
Many mobile website have a link on their mobile site that takes you to the full site. A good website developer might have the site place a cookie in your Safari that tells their site you prefer to visit the full site. After tapping on that link, the next time you visit the site you will most likely not be directed to the mobile site.
But whether or not a redirect happens is the Perdue of the website developer.
Try an alternate browser. Some, like Atomic Web, have a settings area where you can select the type of browser you are using. I have mine set to Internet Explorer. atomic Web then fools the website into thinking I'm on a computer instead of a mobile device and I'm never directed to a mobile site.

  • Slideshow code to my website - what to take?

    Hello,
I really like the slideshow from iweb '08. The code is out there.... and cryptic at best.
I am looking to just take the code from the first screen and apply it to my website, but unsure what to take. I too, would just like a hyperlink on the first page and not show the pictures. This link will then open their slick slideshow.
I am having difficulty stripping out what is needed... I am a good coder, but this is almost like msft's wizard code.... they pack everything in it.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
    Charlie

So, you are stating, I have to show the photos and let the "widget" run. Ok, sounds silly, but if you realize this, then you must know how to get around this...
Nope, if you look at iweb photos page javascript; you soon realize that the slideshow is loaded from the photos page, as I mentioned in my last post: imagestream and mediastream
Conclusion, there is no way around that.
If there is a way I would have done it and I have adapted more slideshows for iweb (from iweb photos page) than any one else here, you can see my examples here: http://home.cyclosaurus.com/iWeb2_Stuff.html
scroll all the way down to Adaptation Redux near the bottom.

  • Cannot get past security code on any website

Trying to apply online to jobs and get to different sites. When the security code pops up, It says it's incorrect!... ***This is on any website, not just itunes.***

You guys take it real easy:  You just try to humiliate the questioner.
The same thing happens to me every time a captcha comes up.  On Yosemite (Updated recently and am very happy with it otherwise!) I can try twenty five times, I can try capital letters or small letters and other variations:  No luck.  So I start up Firefox and I get past the captcha on FIRST TRY.  The thing is I do not want to use Firefox; I am more comfortable with Safari.  This did not happen with OS X  / Safari 10.6.8. (pre-update).
No jokes about Cataracts or new eye glasses or Alzheimer's medicine please!  At least come up with new ones!  But this is a real problem, maybe specific for some machines or something.  Essentially any captcha on any site fails to clear.  I wondered if it has something to do with some security setting; I dug through the settings, but I am only a simple pedestrian user and didn't find anything there.

  • Code to fix website getting cut off

Does anyone know the source code for fixing the website created on muse from being cut off, so it can show fully without cutting any part of my website off. Its been driving me crazy the whole day. I've tried all solutions possible for fixing it on muse but nothing works.

BTW,  I think this issue may be specific to 480i widescreen material viewed through non-HDMI inputs.    I was in a Best Buy today, and didn't see any difference with this TV versus other TVs with whatever materal was being played back through all the TVs, but I believe this was because they were feeding an actual HD signal (greater than 480 pixels in height) via through the antenna input.
Anyway,  I'm thinking of returning this TV and taking my chances on <gasp> an Insignia 28" class LED backlit TV.  I really think Toshiba is a better brand (or at least was), but this issue of the sides getting slightly cut off (as explained in the original post) is kind of annoying.  It's too bad Toshiba hasn't indicated they will address/fix this issue.

  • How to treat source code from a website.

I've been Googling a lot and reading one of my Applescript's tutorials, but nothing. I want to pick every link in a website, but the script fails from the beginning:
set codi_font to the source of the front document as text
When I paste this in a Textedit document or i display it, is empty.
    Where the BIG fail is?

Here, the following code seems to work perfectly well:
tell application "Safari" to set codi_font to the source of the front document as text
    tell application "TextEdit"
    launch
    make new document at front
set text of front document to codi_font
    activate
    end tell

    Do you mean this?:

FWIW, it's html markup, not script. It's also known as a

This is specified in encoded format in the title attribute of

  • The source code for my website shows up wrong for title line in firefox but not in other browsers-how can i correct it? My ranking depends on this.

My title line is correct when I check the source code in Google Chrome. Why is it coming out differently in Firefox?

    Works here.<br />
    I see the same "Accent and English Skills Training for Success" title in Firefox as in Google Chrome although the title tag has a different value: &lt;title&gt;EnglishWorks.us&lt;/title&gt;
Is that title set via JavaScript?

  • How do I disable the "Security Warning" - encrpted script message when I log in to a website using https ? If I cannot get the website owner to change it's code

    ''dupe of https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1027400 - locking''
Whenever I log onto a website via https, I get this message and am unable to have Firefox save my password for the website.
Another user asked this question and it was answered, however, the user was asking in the context of his own website where he was able to change the code.
I am unable to change the code for this website but would like to disable this message and have Firefox remember my password for the user id I type in.
Whenever I log onto a website via https (including my website), I get this message:
Although this page is encrypted, the information you have entered is to be sent over an unencrypted connection and could easily be read by a third party. Are you sure you want to continue sending this information? This is followed below with two boxes, "continue" and "cancel".
In order to connect with the website, I must click on "continue" each time I log onto the website. HOW do I permanently DISABLE this message?
    Chosen solution
Firefox gives that error because the page is on HTTPS but your form action is HTTP:
    <form action="http://eclipse69forum.com/index.php?app=core&module=global&section=login&do=process" method="post" id="login">
Can you change that to HTTPS?

There is a disconnect here: if the form is being submitted securely, then you would not get that message. So although you may be looking at an HTTPS address in the address bar, Firefox is warning you that your username and password are going to an HTTP address and being transmitted in the clear rather than being protected.
That's definitely not the normal way to set up a login page. Do you want to give the URL of the problem login page to get specific comments? Without knowing more, it sounds as though it isn't designed for secure logins and you may be wasting your time accessing their login form using HTTPS.
Anyway, to answer your question, I don't think there is a way to disable that warning.

  • How can i turn a photoshop file into a website with knowing code? can i upload Muse or DreamWeaver?

How can i turn a photoshop file into a website with knowing code? can i upload Muse or DreamWeaver?
I created a few images (pages for a site) on photoshop and want to turn them into HTML code for a website- Can i Just upload the file into one of these programs and make a file with the correct code imediatly?
I was reading about using EDGE Reform but i did not understand if i can create the code with it, in the end it says it still needs to be sent to website developer after?

You need to look at Dreamweaver as a code editor. You need to learn to create good, clean HTML code with style sheets to make websites with Dreamweaver.
There are tutorials that will take you from a layered .PSD file to HTML. Here's a good one:
    http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/site-builds/from-psd-to-html-building-a-set-of-website-d esigns-step-by-step/
Adobe's Muse is a semi-WYSIWYG website layout creator for small websites (1-5 pages). But there is no way you can go from a .PDS file to Muse, you have to start the site in Muse.
I have seen a few Muse sites and they're OK, but there is some code that Muse creates that is kind of odd. If you want a good, clean website that will work for you or your business, Dreamweaver is the best choice. Alternatively, you could hire a pro.
