Column Header Wrapping Issue in OBIEE
Hi All,
We are facing issue with the Column Header Wrapping . Our requirement is to wrap the column header to three lines. Few users are able to see the wrapped header in three lines, few are able to see it in two lines . Even though the Browser is same and the screen size (of laptop / desktop) is same we are facing issue with few users. It is also different in different instances . For ex, In DEV instance it is wrapped in three lines but for the same user with same laptop same browser , it is not wrapped in TEST instance.
Options tried :
Reducing the width in the additional column properties wraps the header in four line
CSS Styling : word-wrap:break-word
Why is there difference in wrapping between the instance for the same user ? Any help , would be appreciated.
My dear,
All blogs and sites are teaches about the ways to implement/create a specific functionality.
Let me go to bed to dream your issue and share that with blog owner so that he can put your issue ;)

Datagrid column header event issue
Hi,
I'm trying to find the event that gets triggered when a
column header is dragged and one when its droped to a new position
in the grid but no luck so far Any ideas ?
Thanks.The DataGrid's headerShift event will be dispatched when the
mouse is released with the column in a new position.
As for detecting the actual drag of the column, you need more
primative events. You can listen for mouseDown events and note the
row number (header row is row 0). You can then listen for mouseMove
events while the mouse is dragging the column. -
Datagrid column header word wrap issue
Hi All,
I'm passing dynamic text to a datagrid column header. The word wrap is true but it's not working.
Any ideas how to fix this issue?
DataGridColumn headerText="{myVar.text} Total" headerWordWrap="true"
Thanks
Johnny@Johnny,
Try to make use of the headerRenderer property and use <mx:Text /> control as a renderer so that your headerText gets wrapped..

How to avoid WRAP of EXCEL Column HEADER Fields
We have 3 tablix in the rdl file with 11 inch * 8.5 inch (to print in A4)
Tablix 1 - HTML viewer
Tablix 2 - EXCEL
Tablix 3 - PDF
The size of the rdl is fixed , if size altered then printing becomes an issue.
So we have to keep the rdl size fix
but at the same time the WRAP of column header of the EXCEL need to be avoided ,
because if the size of the column header is not reduced then we cannot be able to accomodate in the defined page size
Eaxmple of SOme Header Field Name
1.OccupationCode
2.ChargeJobPhase which are quiet large fields, so it need to be wrapped(to reduce the length of the column to accomodate ) to fit in the page.
So as an Alternative option I use the COncept of Subreport and called it by adding row outside group otherwise the
Report Server treats subreport as new report for each instance of the parent report.
The challenge we faced is when export to EXCEL some of the columns is getting merged , I believe the size of the child report (sub report) is having the length
greater than the parent report (Called Report ) and the size has to be large otherwise the COLUMN HEADER need to reduced which makes it Wrapped
So is there any alternative without changing the parent report size and without WRAPPING the HEADER text of CHild report the MERGING of cell can be avoided.
Since MERGING is happening which is not allowing us to PUT FILTER in EXCEL but we need to have FILTER applicable since the END user use it to sort, find the records.Hi SubhadipRoy,
In Reporting Services, whether to wrap text or not is depended on the CanGrow property. If we set the CanGrow property of tablix header row to true, then the header row of tablix will be expanded. If we set the CanGrow property of tablix header row
to false, the header row will be shrunk as the designed size.
So if we want to avoid wrap text, we can try to set the CanGrow property of tablix header row to false in Reporting Services level. Alternatively, we can click the Wrap Text button to enable the expended extra-long text property in Excel level.
If there are any other questions, please feel free to ask.
Thanks,

Way to wrap Column Heading in two lines
Hi,
We have created one table UI element in web dynpro application.
We have a requirement to wrap a table column heading in the table.
Is there any way to wrap or keep the column heading in two lines.
Thanks in advance..
Regards,
Kranthi.Hi Kranthi,
not that I know of - but then again that doesn't mean there isn't!
however, you could force two lines by inserting your column in the table as a column inside a column group - you would get a line for the column group and a line for the column - effectively two lines. If this was the only column in the column group I can't see how it could cause any issue.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,

Wrapping table column header text
Hi
I want my jTable column header texts to be wrapped automatically when the text does not fit in the width of the column. Any one help me?
thanks
mortozaHi
Thanks for your good advise. I have checked the site and found double line header of table. BUT, those lines are static i.e. not wrapping rather fixed. I want it to be wrapped automatically when the width is smaller than the required width to display in on single line. Can anyone help?

Wrap report column header when using heading type : Column Names
The headers for my report is actual data from the database. In order to get it to work I'm using aliases on my columns that correspond to the header name that I want. However, I have been unable to get the headers to wrap. I have tried using <br> and chr(10) but it seems to be stripping them out since it's a column alias. Any ideas? Region source is listed below...r1.fc_desc is the column header that I need to have wrapped.
declare
v_sql varchar2(4000);
v_sql2 varchar2(4000);
cursor c1 is select distinct fc_code, fc_desc from
[email protected] where FG_ID=v('G_FINANCIAL_GROUP') order by fc_desc;
begin
for r1 in c1 loop
if v_sql is null then
v_sql:='select to_char(trans_week_end_thur,''mm/dd/yyyy'') as "Week Ending",sum(decode(fc_code,'''||r1.fc_code||''',payments,0)) as "'||r1.fc_desc||'"';
v_sql2:='select ''Average:'' as "WeekEnding", avg(sum(decode(fc_code,'''||r1.fc_code||''',payments,0))) as "'||r1.fc_desc||'"';
else v_sql:=v_sql||' ,sum(decode(fc_code,'''||r1.fc_code||''',payments,0)) as "'||r1.fc_desc||'"';
v_sql2:=v_sql2||' ,avg(sum(decode(fc_code,'''||r1.fc_code||''',payments,0))) as "'||r1.fc_desc||'"';
end if;
end loop;
if v_sql is null then
v_sql := 'select ''No records found for weekly analysis by insurance class for this financial group '' as " " from dual;';
else
v_sql:= v_sql||' from [email protected] where fg_id=:G_FINANCIAL_GROUP group by trans_week_end_thur';
v_sql2:=v_sql2||' from [email protected] where fg_id=:G_FINANCIAL_GROUP group by trans_week_end_thur;';
v_sql:=v_sql||' union '||v_sql2;
end if;
return v_sql;
end;I've resorted to creating a separate function to return a colon-separated list of column names, in which you can include a br tag or whatever, until I get a chance to research this more thoroughly.
I thought it would just be a case of asking APEX not to strip the HTML, but it's clearly not as simple as that.

Column header sort - case sensitivity issue
Hi guys,
I'm having an issue with the built in column sorting when you click the headers on a report. Basically case sensitivity is taken into account and capital letters get sorted before smaller case letters, for example:
Cats
Dogs
Zebra
ants
bears
How would I be able to fix this built in sort?
Thanks,
LuisLuis,

Dyanmic Column Heading in OBIEE
Hi Experts,
Can we changes the column heading dynamically.
We are using OBIEE 10G
Thanks,Hi user,
Here is the link,might be access is denied in your system check on other system
http://total-bi.com/2011/03/obiee-dynamic-column-headings/
Anyways here it is
2.Use a session variable to dynamically set the column name in the presentation layer of the RPD. E.g.
3. Use a presentation variable as the column name.
This is probably the better of the techniques but it is still far from ideal. Simply edit the column properties and put the name as @{variable_name}{default_value}.
But we still have the problem of how to make this dynamic. Well, we can set a presentation variable using a dashboard prompt so we need to create a prompt and force it to a default value. Note that the prompt will need to be added to the dashboard but can be hidden by setting the CSS style to display:none on the dashboard section.

BEx Query Workbook - Column Header Text won't wrap
Hi, Does anyone know what I have to do to get the header text of a Query in BEx to Wrap? We have really wide column headers and I'm making the column widths smaller and would like the text to wrap. I'm converting from 3.5 to 7.x.
I am trying to manually set the size of my columns and have the text of the column wrap. Instead they don't wrap and you just end up not being able to see all of the text in the column header. I turned off Autofit for the analysis item settings.
Can anyone help with this?!Can you live with applying only Excel formatting to the results?
Design mode > Analysis Grid Properties > uncheck Apply Formatting. BEx formatting will be disabled. You can apply Excel formatting including column Text Wrap option for your headers. As long as you do not add new lines and columns to the results area, the Excel formatting stay with each data refresh. If new lines and columns are added, the Excel formatting will get misaligned.

Can't wrap column header if column is sized smaller
I have been reading through all the threads here and have not found a solution to my particular problem. I have a column with a long title that I want wrapped so the column itself is narrower. I have tried the "display:block;width:150px;overflow:hidden;white-space:normal" approach which works fine with the column data but still leaves the header wrapped. I also tried the "<table><col style="width:100px;"><tr><td>#COL04#</td></tr></table>" approach which had no effect. I'm using Theme 2 and have examined the t2header tags and see that the default tag contains a nowrap directive, but the tags for the other templates such as standard and borderless do not contain a nowrap. I have tried using all of these templates to no avail. Any ideas on how to get my column header to wrap?
Hi,
Following is the jsp code that i am using but not able to wrap the text in column:
<af:table id="logTable"
value="#{abc.listWorkBenchLog}"
var="log"
bandingInterval="1"
banding="row"
rows="5"
inlineStyle="border: 1px solid Silver ;width:700px;height:100px;overflow:scroll;" >
<af:column sortable="true" sortProperty="strDesc" width="700" noWrap="false" >
<f:facet name="header">
<af:outputText value="Description"/>
</f:facet>
<af:outputText value="#{log.strDesc}" />
</af:column>
</af:table>
I tried removing noWrap however it places a horizontal scroll bar (which i dont want and hence implementing this wrap text functionality) in the table.
please help,

I have been working with the new OracleAS 10g R2 Discoverer Plus (Drake) and am concerned about the height of the column header cells. The labels within the column headers are almost cut off, which is super annoying. I've tried all sorts of formatting to fix this but nothing seems to work. Is there a way to change the height of the column header cells?
It seems like this problem might be related to the one we are seeing with the wrapping option for the column headers. Even though the wrap text option is on, in Plus the header just gets truncated and in Viewer the entire header appears on one line, causing the column to expand.

SSRS 2008 Header height issues due to merged columns
When working on a report today we ran into an issue which took us quite some testing to figure out. At some point we decided to switch some of the headers of columns around and when rendering the report again it for some reason created a header which was
way heigher then the biggest text there, showing a huge empty space in the header underneath the text.
My first guess was that there had to be some extra spaces in some column or something alike, which made the cells grow so much. This however was not the case. As a next step I cleared the cells in the headerrow one by one to figure out which field was making
the header grow this much. It turned out to be the header in the 10th column. When I replaced the text in this cell, it did not make the header grow anymore. When I put the original text back, it started growing again. As a next step I removed the text in
this cell, pasted it in another cell (column 11) and rendered the report, with the same huge header again. Out of frustration I tried a desperate last move, copied it to column 1 and rendered the report, the effect was a small header without some weird height.
So the conclusion was that this text was making the header grow hugely in the columns 10 and 11, but not in column 1? What is the difference between column 10/11 and column 1?
Then I noticed that column 7, 8 and 9 were pretty small columns, only holding integer values. The header above this, however, was one word, so the 3 cells in the header for these columns were MERGED. So basicly, only looking at the cells in the header, my
huge text was in the 8th cell from the left, not the 10th (10th column, but due to merging the 8th cell). As a test I editted the width of the 8th column (the middle one of the merged cells) to be as wide as all the other columns holding text. The rendering
of the report, with the huge text in the original headercolumn, now did not grow my header to be extremely big. This combined with the way "hiding" works in SSRS 2008 oppose to SSRS 2005 (ie, in 2008 a hidden cell disappears completly, moving all next cells
up to the left, where as in 2005 a hidden cell just shows as empty in the report), leads me to believe that there is a bug in SSRS 2008 considering cell widths and merged cells? It is like the 10th column header now thinks it is part of the 8th column (being
the 8th cell in its row due to merging) and therefor works with the width of this 8th column to judge how much increased height it needs. In fact it is the width of the 10th column and therefor doesnt need the height it creates, resulting in a huge empty space
underneath the text.
Is this a known issue by Microsoft? Any ETA on this for a fix?This combined with the way "hiding" works in SSRS 2008 oppose to SSRS 2005 (ie, in 2008 a hidden cell disappears completly, moving all next cells up to the left, where as in 2005 a hidden cell just shows as empty in the report), leads me to believe that

Hi Joel_i,
I was a little confused with the paragraph above. Could you please elaborate it?
Based on the information posted, I tried to reproduce the scenario, but it works fine. During my test, the header cells grow
only when the text in the head column is too long which will caused newline, or there is some extra space in some columns. So, you might need to check the properties of the 8th column cell, such asSpaceAfer,
SpaceBefore, to make sure all properties are set rightly.
To provide you further assistance, could you please post the report and dataset with sample data to our data collection E-mail
address?
E-mail: sqltnsp AT microsoft.com (Please replace the AT with @, and remove additional spaces).
Thanks,
Lola Wang

Interactive Report, issue with backgroud color of Column Heading.
Hi,
I am using Theme -16
and there is a Interactive Report with the following columns Headings
Employee Name Employee No DOB
Now, the label of the first column is changed from Employee Name to Employee<br>name.
The column heading is now displayed as follows.
Employee Employee No DOB
Name problem is when I add a break in any of the column heading..the background color of the column headings is different than the first one (little bit darker).
Why the background ground of the column heading is different in both these cases??.
Thanks,
DeepakWhy the background ground of the column heading is different in both these cases??.The report heading background is controlled by the CSS rule
.apexir_WORKSHEET_DATA th {
background: #4e4e4e;
font-weight: bold;
color: #fff;
border-top: 1px #ccc solid;
border-bottom: 1px #aaa solid;
white-space: nowrap;
vertical-align: center;
letter-spacing: 1;
font-size: 8pt;
background-image: url(../ws/report_bg.gif);
background-repeat: repeat-x;
}This uses a [gradient image|http://apex.oracle.com/i/ws/report_bg.gif] that is repeated horizontally to provide a shaded background from light to dark grey. As the background image doesn't repeat vertically, when the height of the heading is more than the height of the image the gradient is replaced by the underlying background colour (#4e4e4e). This is what's happening when the break is inserted into the header text: the height of the heading increases, causing more of the darker area of the background image/underlying colour to be visible. -
OBIEE 11g: Use presentation variable in Column Heading
Hi everyone,
I was playing around with sample app dashboards and I saw a dashboard prompt that they converted into a column selector. I liked it and reproduced it in my own sandbox.
I like the results, however, I would also like to change the column heading to clearly reflect which measure was selected. It's pretty clear when you are looking in the dashboard, but once you export the data, it can be confusing which measure was selected.
That is why I would like to use a presentation variable in the column heading section. I tried to do this but it interpreted it as a literal instead of evaluating the statement.
Is there anyway to get a variable in the column heading?
Thanks!
-JoeHi,
Have a look at the following links:
http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/2008/01/25/oracle-bi-ee-101332-dynamic-column-headers-using-presentation-variables-sets-and-conditional-formatting/
show the presentation variable on table column header
Define presentation variable in column header
hope it helps.
