Column View creating a New Folder?

In the Finder (Column View) it seems when you right click in ANY column to create a New Folder, the New Folder always gets created in the LAST column being viewed. In Leopard 10.5 you could create a New Folder in any column just by right clicking an empty space within that column. It seems this behavior does not work in Snow Leopard now. I have submitted feedback thru the website, however, does any one know how to get this functionality back in Snow Leopard's Finder?
Thank You!

AFAIK, there is no way to do that. Finder has been rewritten for Snow leopard and this is how it works now. I must say that the new way makes more sense to me than the old one.

    Thx for that im gonna try it....but is there a way to do it without using toolbar or cmd-c...? i mean using only the mouse?why does it have to highlight the file even though i click a bit next to it....?using icon view i can right click next to the folder and i wont have a problem but with list view that i prefer using it will highlight the whole row.....and i dont find free space to right click cause i got many files

  • How do you create a new folder within a folder?

    ... without having to create it and drag and drop??

    A new folder is created in the currently open folder.
    I'm assuming you are trying to create a new folder in List view. The new folder will be created in the folder which that the open window represents.
    If you want to create a folder within another folder, you must open that folder in icon view or select the new parent folder in column view.

  • Every time I try and create a new folder on my desktop, it is never empty, but contains all my existing files. Am I doing something stupid?

    Every time I try and create a new folder on my desktop, it is never empty, but contains all my existing files. Am I doing something stupid?

    Is this what it looks like when you open the new untitled folder:
    The left column always shows unless you choose 'hide sidebar' in the Finder View menu drop down options and, on mine,  it shows two items on my desktop - the new folder and a previously created folder.

  • Creating a new folder sometimes drives me wonky

    Have any of you found a work around for this: When I'm in the hierarchical view in the finder and want to create a new folder in one of the panes, the OS can make it difficult. If the pane is completely filled with files or folders, when you control click to bring up the context menu, the OS assumes that you want to pick a choice dealing with whatever file you were hovering over at the time.
    In order to create a new folder in that pane, I either have to do something wonky like create the folder on the desktop and drag it in, or expand the window to get blank space at the bottom of the file list.
    Is there a way to create a folder directly in a filled pane?

    You can also right click on the top of a finder window choose customize from the contextual menu & drag the new folder icon to the top of the finder window.
    Also click on the action icon (gear icon) & choose new folder from the drop down menu.

  • Creating a new folder in bookmarks

    I want to create a NEW folder in bookmarks and THEN add bookmarked pages to that folder.
    I've actually searched support for a specific solution or instructions and found none. Currently, I can not find any instructions or options for creating a folder. I don't want to just bookmark the current page I am on. I want to create a folder based on topic and then, later, add bookmarks to that folder when a particular page is related to that topic.
    How?

    Note that you can also create a new folder via the Organize button in the Library window.<br />
    The Organize is the first of the three buttons on the toolbar in the Library (Organize, Views, Import and Backup).

  • API for creating a new folder in Shared Queries through C # in TFS 2013

    Hi ,
              Is it possible to create a new folder in "Shared Queries" in Team foundation Server 2013 by using C#. I'm able to access the queries and even modify them by using the StoredQuery class and
    the QueryText function . We had a case to create a new folder in the Shared Queries part of the project.
              I have been and I am still looking for classes / api's that will enable me to do this .Any pointers to help me would be greatly appreciated.
             Do let me know if I have to provide more information.
    Regards,

    Hi Arun,
    Thanks for your post.
    To create new folder under Shared Queries, you can try below code snippet:
    TfsTeamProjectCollection tfs =
    new
    TfsTeamProjectCollection(new
    Uri("collectionURL"));
    tfs.EnsureAuthenticated();
    WorkItemStore workitemstore = tfs.GetService<WorkItemStore>();
    var queryHierarchy = workitemstore.Projects["teamprojectname"].QueryHierarchy;
    QueryFolder currentLocation = queryHierarchy["Shared
    Queries"]
    as
    QueryFolder;
    var folder =
    new
    QueryFolder("foldername");
    currentLocation.Add(folder);
    currentLocation = folder;
    queryHierarchy.Save();

  • Problems creating a new folder when using webmail

    Hi, has anyone else out there encountered problems when trying to create a new folder when using webmail ?
    It just seems to create a new folder called 'New Folder' and misses out the step that would normally allow you to rename it to a title of your choice.
    A whole list of folders called 'New Folder' is about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike.
    It did used to work as I've used it many times in the past.....but then so did a lot of things before the 'new' and 'improved' version of BT Mail came along.
    Any help or suggestions gratefully received (apart from the obvious solution, switch to a mail client).
    Maybe it needs flagging to the 'techies'......they must be really busy trying to sort out all the so called teething problems.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    What should happen is that when you click on the + for add a new folder a box should appear, somewhere amongst the folder list. (The list is in alphabetical order so if you have a number of folders previous to the letter N it maybe out of view ) .
    The box will have the text " New folder-X," ( see below for the explantion for the -X ) you then delete the text, type in the name you want, hit enter and there it is.
    If you don't notice the box, possibly because it's off screen further down the list, you then open and close the list, or log out the next time you view the list it, or they, are simply named New folder.
    So you now have umpteen " New folders ", here's how to rename them.
    Place your cursor on the word New Folder in your folder list, you will see a little box appear with" New folder-X,"  x being the number of the new folders you have created., eg -0, -1, -2 etc.
    Then double click on it, you should then get a larger box with New folder-X.
    Delete the text in the box, type in the name you want for the new folder, hit enter there's you newly named folder.

  • How do I create a new folder in email

    How do I create a new folder in email with the New Lion system?

    Do you mean in the left column? See the screenshot here:
    Click on the little + sign on the bottom and then on new Mailbox - name it and you're done.

  • Why not instruct MacOS 10.10 users in creating a new folder to use the wheel icon pull-down menu ...

    Your instructions on creating folders aren't correct. for my Mac, saying nothing about having to
    Open the Bookmarks pull-down menu
    Select 'Unsorted Bookmarks'
    Go to the top 'Wheel' icon
    THEN you can create a new folder, and other good things
    Bit of a pain. Otherwise, Firefox is great!

    * Bookmarks created via a click on the star in the location bar are stored by default in the Unsorted Bookmarks folder.
    Another click on the blue highlighted star allows to edit the properties and move the bookmark to another folder.
    * Bookmarks created via "Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page" (Ctrl + D) are stored at the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu folder.
    In the left pane in the Library (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks) there are three folders in the "All Bookmarks" folder:
    * "Bookmarks Toolbar"
    * "Bookmarks Menu"
    * "Unsorted Bookmarks"
    You can add new bookmarks to one of those three Bookmarks folders, but you can not create a new folder or add bookmarks at the root level ("All Bookmarks") or remove one of the three root folders.
    In the Bookmarks Manager you can also create a new folder via the Organize menu.
    In the Bookmarks sidebar (Ctrl+B; Cmd+B on Mac) you can do that via the right-click context menu.
    There are three main Bookmarks folders and bookmarks can only be created in one of those folders and its sub folders.
    * The "Bookmarks Toolbar" folder stores the bookmarks that you see on the Bookmarks Toolbar (Firefox > Options or View > Toolbars).
    * The "Bookmarks Menu" folder stores bookmarks that show in the Bookmarks menu and are created via "Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page" or via "Bookmark This Link" in the right-click context menu.
    * The "Unsorted Bookmarks" folder stores bookmarks that are created by clicking the star at the right end of the location bar.

  • When I create a new folder on the desktop of my macbook pro, it is automatically populated with all of the files on the desktop, which I don't want.

    when I create a new folder on the desktop of my macbook pro, it is automatically populated with all of the files on the desktop, which I don't want.

    I got the problem solved. It was pretty simple but new to me. I had evidently inadvertently switched the setting in the "View" tab on the dropdown menu so that all of my desktop folders were populated by all folders/documents residing on the desktop.
    The solution was to open one of the folders, then go to the "View" tab and change the setting to "List." Presto, now all the folders include only the contents I had intentionally loaded into them.

    I have just got a N70 phone and syncronised fine a few times with Microsoft Outlook. All of a sudden i realised that when i syncronised again the phone created a new folder in Microsoft Outlook which I cannot access and cannot delete. As it is called the same as my actual calendar when I go to syncronise again the syn gets confused and doen't do it, getting error report in PC Suite. I tried posinting it to the right folder but it still gets confused!
    I spent a few hours with a very nice person who handles my email accounts to create a new mail account to get rid of the new folder. As soon as we finally managed to get rid of these corrupt folders I syncrnised and they appered in the new account again!
    Really not sure what to do now!

    I forgot to mention that I downloaded the latest version of PC Suite off your website and that the connection is via USB Cable

    I think everyone can use this.
     When you are generating a folder always try to avoid reserved characters  : ; # $ % ^ a and suchlike.

    When I create a New Folder (on the desktop or in Finder), the system uses the Generic Document Icon instead of the Generic Folder Icon. How can I change this back?
    All of a sudden I noticed that most of the folders on my computer were no longer using the folder icon, but the generic document icon. I had to manually change back the icon being used by opening Get Info for each folder and copying and pasting the generic folder icon from some folders that remained unchanged. Now whenever I create a New Folder (right click -> "New Folder"), the icon that shows up is the generic document icon (white page with top right corner turned down). And I have to manually change it so it shows up as a folder in Finder or on my desktop. I don't know why or how this switch happened. All of the folders now on my computer look ok, but I need to change the default so when I create a New Folder it uses the correct icon.
    I have also Forced Relaunch of my Finder and rebooted the system. I downloaded Candybar but am not sure what will fix anything, so I haven't proceeded.
    Anyone know how I can do this? Thanks.

    Anyone?
