Combining Logical Databases?

Hi all,
I am using the logical database ADA in a program that I am writing. I need to combine ANLAV, ANLCV, and ANEPV into one super structure that I've created with our necessary fields. The super structure is made up of 4 other structures -- a header structure and 3 custom structure versions of ANLAV, ANLCV, and ANEPV.
I've set up 3 different internal tables and work areas. I currently have the following code to get the data from those tables:
tables: anlav, anlcv, anepv.
initialization.
  get anlav.
  move-corresponding anlav to wa_anlav.
  append wa_anlav to it_anlav.
  get anlcv.
  move-corresponding anlcv to wa_anlcv.
  append wa_anlcv to it_anlcv.
  get anepv.
  move-corresponding anepv to wa_anepv.
  append wa_anepv to it_anepv.
What would be the best way to join those three tables? I was considering the following (pseudocode):
loop at it_anlav into wa_ada.
  read it_anlcv into wa_ada1.
  read it_anepv into wa_ada2.
  move-corresponding wa_ada1 to wa_ada.
  move-corresponding wa_ada2 to wa_ada.
  collect wa_ada to it_ada.
endloop.
My worry is that I will miss some data in the process. I don't know if it's plausible, but for example, if ANLAV returns 10 records, ANLCV returns only 5, but ANEPV returns 15, then I imagine I would lose the extra five records in ANEPV.
Any helpful suggestions will be awarded points. Thanks in advance.

Hi,
OK..Try this..
DATA: V_it_anlav  TYPE XFELD.
DATA: V_it_anlcv  TYPE XFELD.
DATA: V_it_anepv TYPE XFELD.
DO.
CLEAR: WA_IT_ANLAV,
             WA_IT_ANLCV,
             WA_IT_ANEPV.
READ TABLE IT_ANLAV INTO WA_IT_ANLAV
                     INDEX SY-INDEX.
IF SY-SUBRC <> 0.
  V_IT_ANLAV = 'X'.
ENDIF.
READ TABLE IT_ANLCV INTO WA_IT_ANLCV
                     INDEX SY-INDEX.
IF SY-SUBRC <> 0.
  V_IT_ANLCV = 'X'.
ENDIF.
READ TABLE IT_ANEPV INTO WA_IT_ANEPV
                     INDEX SY-INDEX.
IF SY-SUBRC <> 0.
  V_IT_ANEPV = 'X'.
ENDIF.
Exit out of the loop if none of the three internal tables has records.
IF V_IT_ANLAV = 'X' AND
    V_IT_ANLCV = 'X' AND
    V_IT_ANEPV = 'X'.
  EXIT.
ENDIF.
Move the records to the output internal table.
MOVE-CORRESPONDING WA_IT_ANLAV TO WA_ADA.
MOVE-CORRESPONDING WA_IT_ANLCV TO WA_ADA.
MOVE-CORRESPONDING WA_IT_ANEPV TO WA_ADA.
APPEND WA_ADA TO IT_ADA.
ENDDO.
Hope this works..
THanks,

  • ABAP Logical Database ADA

Hi All, I am quite familiar with Logical Databases but I need to understand the following.
    1) I am using LDB ADA, but I want to use my own Selection Screen and not the default one that the LDB provides. I know I must put something in AT SELECTION-SCREEN but am unsure what.
    2) Once I get the data, I want to store the data in an internal table - how do I go about doing this? If you can provide a code example that would be great.
    Points for any relevant help.

    Hi,
A logical database is a special ABAP/4 program which combines the contents of certain database tables. You can link a logical database to an ABAP/4 report program as an attribute. The logical database then supplies the report program with a set of hierarchically structured table lines which can be taken from different database tables.
    Logical database structures
There are three defining entities in an SAP logical database. You must be clear on all three in order to create and use one.
Table structure: Your logical database includes data from specified tables in SAP. There is a hierarchy among these tables defined by their foreign keys (all known to SAP), and you are going to define a customized relationship between select tables. This structure is unique and must be defined and saved.
Data selection: You may not want or need every item in the referenced tables that contributes to your customized database. There is a selection screen that permits you to pick and choose.
Database access programming: Once you’ve defined your logical database, SAP will generate the access subroutines needed to pull the data in the way you want it pulled.
    Creating your own logical database
    Here’s a step-by-step guide:
    1) Call up transaction SLDB (or transaction SE36). The path you want is Tools | ABAP Workbench | Development | Programming Environment | Logical Databases. This screen is called Logical Database Builder.
    2) Enter an appropriate name in the logical database name field. You have three options on this screen: Create, Display, and Change. Choose Create.
    3) You’ll be prompted for a short text description of your new logical database. Enter one. You’ll then be prompted to specify a development class.
    4) Specify a root node, or a parent table, as the basis of your logical database structure. You can now place subsequent tables under the root table as needed to assemble the data object you want. You can access this tree from this point forward, to add additional tables, by selecting that root node and following the path Edit | Node | Create. Once you’ve saved the structure you define in this step, the system will generate the programming necessary to access your logical database. The best part is you don’t have to write a single line of code.
Noted point is we cant add any selection criteria thru our se38 program if you are attaching any LDB to program.Ist of no use.
If you want to change selection criteria to the existing LDB, you have to goto SE36 tcode and provide LDB name and choose "Change" mode by selecting "Selections" Radio button.
declaration of params is different compared to normal se38 program in some aspects.
PARAMETERS :p_curr LIKE bkpf-waers FOR TABLE bkpf OBLIGATORY.
this BKPF table should be one of the node in the "Structure" Radio button.
    Thanks

  • Field symbols and logical databases

    Hi,
How to use field symbols in an abap HR program with logical database? For most of the reports and interfaces in HR, I have used GET PERNR with logical database to fetch data from the tables. I understand that this method of programming using logical databses, is less coding and improves the performance. I am curious to know the usage of field pointers here. How does this help? Is it necessary from a performance point of view? I would like to look at an example that has LDB and field symbols used in combination. I did not find one in the threads.
Any thoughts and what do you recommend?
    Thanks in advance,

Field-Symbols utilize memory more efficiently.Hence Better utilization of memory better is performance.

    Hello Gurus,
I am working on a Report on ASSET ACTIVITY BY DATE RANGE .
The program is copied from std. program S_ALR_87011990.
The above std. program displays for the whole financial year. This is modified for a particalar period range in the new leveraged program.
My question is in the below code.
We are fetching data using LDB ADA. The statement "GET anlcv" works fine here, I mean Sy-subrc is 0 and anlcv structure has some data in it.
When it comes to statement "GET anepv" in the below code, we are not getting any data into that structure and sy-subrc NE 0. Then it is skipping all the get statements and directly going to statement " PERFORM abga_simulieren.".
My logic lies in between this Get statement and the perform statement. When i see it in debugging mode my statement is not executed at all.

    Hi
<i>q1]] What is the difference between LOGICAL DATABASE and VIEWS?</i>
    <b>Logical Databases</b>
Logical databases are special ABAP programs that retrieve data and make it available to application programs. The most common use of logical databases is still to read data from database tables by linking them to executable ABAP programs.
Logical databases contain Open SQL statements that read data from the database. You do not therefore need to use SQL in your own programs. The logical database reads the program, stores them in the program if necessary, and then passes them line by line to the application program or the function module LDB_PROCESS using an interface work area.
    <i>Logical Databases - Views of Data</i>
A logical database provides a particular view of database tables in the R/3 System. <u><i>It is always worth using logical databases if the structure of the data that you want to read corresponds to a view available through a logical database.</i></u>
Please got through the link where you can find how create or modify logical database.

<i>q2]] Why are alphaneumeric characters called so ?</i>
Alphanumeric characters are combination of alphabets including Uppercase letters (A..Z) and lowercase letters (a..z) , and Numerals(0123456789) .
This Can be defined with character strings.
A character string is a data type that consists of a series of alphanumeric characters.
Each character string has a code attribute (ASCII, EBCDIC, or BYTE). It defines the sort sequence to be used for comparing values.

  • Logical database excess problem

    hi frends,
is it possible to make single report for using multiple logical databases ?

Logical database as the name suggests is a logical combination of related tables along with their common selection criteria and database access routines. Now if you want to use more than one logical database, then you are basically accessing unrelated tables (or at least as per the definition of a logical database) and that defeats the purpose of a logical database which offers some benefits of reusable selection criteria and faster database access.
That is the reason why SAP gave you an option to specify only one logical database in the attributes. Apart from this there may some technical limitations in providing such a feature, for instance what if you use 100 logical databases in a report, can the combined selection screens of all the logical databases be generated and handled? Can all the database access routines be loaded at the same time into the memory? So it may be both technical implementation limitations as well as logical reasoning that lead SAP to limit it to one LDB.

  • Creation of Datasource on Logical Database

    Hi,
Any information as to how to create Datasource from a logical database in R/3 would be a great help.
    Thanks,
    Nikhil

    hi,
Using that LDB, you can write SQL statements in ECC,so create a table and dump the data from LDB into that table. And create a DS on that table.
LDB: you can't see it in SE11, just it is combination of some tables.
While creating DS in RSO2, we have 3 options, but LDB option is not there, either you create a Function Module using that LDB or Table then you connet that in RSO2.
    Thanks

  • Selection part of Logical Database

I read about logical database somewhere on the net but it was not so clear. Can anyone explain to me about the selection part of the logical database???

Logical databases are special ABAP programs that retrieve data and make it available to application programs. The most common use of logical databases is still to read data from database tables and linking them to executable ABAP programs while setting the program contents. You edit logical databases using the Logical Database Builder in the ABAP Workbench.
However, since Release 4.5A, it has also been possible to call logical databases independently of this tool using the function module LDB_PROCESS. This allows you to call several logical databases from any ABAP program, nested in any way. It is also possible to call a logical database more than once in a program, if it has been programmed to allow this. This is particularly useful for executable programs, allowing them to use more than one logical database and process a database more than once.
Logical databases contain Open SQL statements that read data from the database. You do not therefore need to use SQL in your own programs. The logical database reads the program, stores them in the program if necessary, and then passes them line by line to the application program or the function module LDB_PROCESS using an interface work area.

Logical databases are SAP standard programs that are desinged with selections screens that helps easy retrival and access of data from various tables in and efficient manner.
You can get to know more about the logical databases from the SAP documentation or the following links.
A logical database is a special ABAP/4 program which combines the contents of certain database tables. You can link a logical database to an ABAP/4 report program as an attribute. The logical database then supplies the report program with a set of hierarchically structured table lines which can be taken from different database tables.
    Advantages of Logical database -
    1) No need of programming for retrieval , meaning for data selection
    2) Easy to use standard user interface, have check completeness of user input.
    Disadvantages
    1) Fast in case of lesser no. of tables But if the table is in the lowest level of hierarchy, all upper level tables should be read so performance is slower.

    1. A logical database is in fact
    a program only.
    2. This LDB provides two main things :
    a) a pre-defined selection screen
which handles all user inputs and validations
    b) pre defined set of data
    based upon the user selection.
    3. So we dont have to worry about from
    which tables to fetch data.
    4. Moreover, this LDB Program,
    handles all user-authorisations
and is efficient in all respects.

Functions for displaying and changing logical databases:
    Call Transaction SE36 or
Choose ABAP Workbench -> Development -> Programming environ. -> Logical databases
Interaction between database program and report:
During program processing, subroutines are performed in the database program and events are executed in the report.
To read data from a database tables we use logical database.
A logical database provides read-only access to a group of related tables to an ABAP/4 program.
    advantages:-
The programmer need not worry about the primary key for each table.Because Logical database knows how the different tables relate to each other, and can issue the SELECT command with proper where clause to retrieve the data.
    i)An easy-to-use standard user interface.
ii)check functions which check that user input is complete, correct, and plausible.
    iii)meaningful data selection.
iv)central authorization checks for database accesses.
v)good read access performance while retaining the hierarchical data view determined by the application logic.
    disadvantages:-
i)If you donot specify a logical database in the program attributes, the GET events never occur.
ii)There is no ENDGET command,so the code block associated with an event ends with the next event
statement (such as another GET or an END-OF-SELECTION).
    1. transaction code SLDB.
    2.enter name z<ldb-name>
    3.create
    4.short text
    5.create
    6. name of root node (here Ekko)
    7. enter short text (f6)
8.node type -> data base table.
    9.create
    10 change logical DB
riht click on ekko and insert node
    here node name ekpo
    11.create
    12. click on selections
    13. press no Should the changed structure of Z<ldb name> be saved first.
14.select tables which you want to join.
    15.transfer
16 now you have to o to coding part.
    17. save
    activate.
    19.click to src code
double click on first include and activate

  • Need of logical database

    Hi,
Can any one briefly explain what is the need of Logical database?
In which case , abapers r going for logical database?
    regards,
    Pooja

    Hi Pooja,
A logical database is a special ABAP/4 program which combines the contents of certain database tables. You can link a logical database to an ABAP/4 report program as an attribute. The logical database then supplies the report program with a set of hierarchically structured table lines which can be taken from different database tables.
GET will fetch the table data immediately
    GET LATE
In the LDB when you define the table structure in hierarchy, first it will fetch the higher node data and then all the below node tables data and comes to a second record in the top node table. for this GET Late is used.
You can create any number of primary keys in a table
The programmer need not worry about the primary key for each table.Because Logical database knows how the different tables relate to each other, and can issue the SELECT command with proper where clause to retrieve the data.
    i)An easy-to-use standard user interface.
ii)check functions which check that user input is complete, correct, and plausible.
    iii)meaningful data selection.
iv)central authorization checks for database accesses.
v)good read access performance while retaining the hierarchical data view determined by the application logic.

  • Advantages and disadvantages of logical database ?

    dear masters,
good answers can be rewarded by giving points

    Hi,
Logical databases are SAP standard programs that are desinged with selections screens that helps easy retrival and access of data from various tables in and efficient manner.

LDB offers an easy-to-use selection screens. You can modify the pre-generated selection screen to your needs. It offers check functions to check whether user input is complete, correct, and plausible. It offers reasonable data selections. It contains central authorization checks for data base accesses. Enhancements such as improved performance immediately apply to all report programs that use the logical database.
Less coding s required to retrieve data compared to normal internel tables.
Tables used LDB are in hierarchial structure.
Mainly we used LDBs in HR Abap Programming.
Where all tables are highly inter related so LDBs can optimize the performance there.
