Command line console, any decent package?

Hello there:
I was given an assignment to write a simple adventure game, command line console is to be used to accept user instructions. While we can create a traditional while-loop to take users' requests, i am wondering if there is any decent package to handle commands from a console in a general way? It'd be a great time-saver in one's repository. :-)
Thanks,
Sway

No packages that I know of, but take a look at the Scanner Class. Last time I did a Zork type of game it took like 2 hours to code up--with monster definitions, potions, and healing. You'll not get much more easy of an assignment for than a text based game.

  • Virtual Command Line Console

If you ever need to open an SR for an issue with a snapshotted application, or simply want to do some basic testing prior to building a virtual application that requires snapshotting, a virtual command line console is an excellent tool:
    1. Open ZAV studio
    2. Start a new project
    3. Point the startup file to C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe
    4. Point the output file to any location you wish
    5. Build
    To test:
    1. Run the virtual CMD.exe
    2. Navigate to the location of the installed exe you want to virtualize and run it
The purpose of this test is simple: as we have not modified the configuration at all and have included no virtual file system or registry, this virtual CMD is running inside the xVM and using the file system/registry of the OS. This strips away all of the packaging elements that go into the snapshot process, allowing the cleanest possible test.
If the installed application runs under these conditions, but fails to operate correctly when built into a virtual application, there is something going wrong in the packaging process. This could be a file being left out of the virtual file system, or a setting that needs to be in place, etc. If the installed application fails to operate correctly using the virtual CMD, however, there is a more serious issue; an SR should absolutely be opened if possible, so the support team can assist.

this is an xwindows error meaning you haven't setup xwindows properly in the context where you're running the program - is it in a unix shell ? Do you have an XServer running ?

  • Administration Port / command line /  console gui question

In the Admin_ref.pdf doc it says "After enabling the administration port, all Administration Console traffic must connect via the administration port". Does this mean that you can no longer use the web gui console to manage the servers?
I would like the option to script deployments (deploy ears, stop start servers etc.) via command line to reduce the possibility of user error during routine deployments.
I do config mgmt. and am not a developer so I may be getting hung up on the language here.
    Thanks,
    gj

    Hi
For first question the answer is no. With the administration port, you enable the SSL between the admin server and Node manager-managed Servers. You can still use the web console.
For teh second question, you can use ANT or can use the WLS Scripting ..you can get more details in dev2dev.bea.com

    Hi all!
I am in badly need to your help to solve my problem
i build an ssis package to read xml data from API and load it in a local DB

i guess i must add this proxy server to the DTEXEC command line that i use in my scheduled job
    waiting for your help please..
    Thanks

    Dear all
really Thanks a lot .. PROBLEM SOLVED :)
i created a new credential using my windows account and then i created a new proxy account using my new credential and finally i use this proxy account in sql agent job and it works well
i guess that the problem is SQL Server Agent uses SQL
Server credentials to launch the job, not Windows
    credentials .

  • Clear Command Line Console from Java

Is there a way to clear the dos/shell console screen from a java program (the same way as cls would do in dos ir clear would do in unix) without making a Runtime.exec call??
    Thanks for your time
    wwe8

What console window are you talking about?
1- You might be starting a java application in a console window.
2-Or it might be another console window.
3-You might be starting a console window in java via Runtime.exec().
For 1 and 2 you would need a JNI, platform specific solution. I believe the java testing tools do this, so if you got one of those it might provide an interface for this.
If 3, then you would use the input stream to pass the command to the window.

  • Command Line/Console Mode Menu's and ASCII-Graphics

    Dear Sun java friends:
Pardon me if this has been asked. I have used the search function but have been unable to find useful information.
I am developing a series of programs to parse servers logs and compute certain statistics. There will also be a real-time monitor of active connections. This would be an extrodinarily simple task with swing and awt, but i am limited to the console mode only. In my quest for neatness (i do not want a continious screen scroll of active connets/disconnects with System.out), i am looking for a way to create simple ASCII-like graphics, not much unlike the TSR's from the old DOS days.
Obviously, System.out.println() does not give me the power i need. I would like to be able to print text/characters at a certain x,y coordinate. Is it even possible with Java? Where can i look for tutorials or get more information?

There is no standard package in Java for console graphics but a number of third party packages exist. For example the ncurses library has been ported to Java, do a web search on "java curses." IIRC it's open source but I've never used it..

  • Converting a command-line console application to a jsp or servlet

What would be the steps to convert a console based application to a servlet based application?
For example, I have a Scanner object that takes input from System.in and assigns it to a string.
How might I turn the scanner input into a form on a jsp, or a servlet? What would be the steps to convert a console based application to a servlet based application?
For example, I have a Scanner object that takes input from System.in and assigns it to a string.
How might I turn the scanner input into a form on a jsp, or a servlet?

Obviously you can't read from the scanner. Instead you have to read from request parameters.
So you have to take a step back and define what values are being input into your application.
At its most basic you could do it as a jsp page with a textfield/textarea which the user could type into instead of typing on the console input.
For instance if your application asks the user to enter their name, and then reads the name from System.in, then you have on your jsp page a <input type="text"> and a submit button.
In the servlet which gets run when you submit the button you get the user's name via request.getParameter().
At that point you have your input String, and have removed System.in from the process.
But you are not just limited to text input with an html form. You can use any of the controls available. So asking a user "What is your favorite colour?" Instead of having them type in the answer, you could have them choose it from a radio group or dropdown select box.
Either way it still gets to the Servlet as a String via request.getParameter.
    Steps you might follow
1 - identify the values being input into your program
2 - Write your jsp - start with just textfields
3 - Write your servlet handler to retrieve the values from the JSP.
4 - Determine the appropriate control on an html form to replace each input
5 - Modify the textfields to other controls (dropdown/radio button) as appropriate.
Theoretically the rest of your program doesn't need to change once you have the value in a String.
Your method of reading just changes from using Scanner and System.int to request.getParameter()
Similarly your method of writing would change from using System.out to a response JSP page.
    hope this helps,

  • Command Line Compilation of  a Project with different packages

    Hi,
I am trying to compile a project through command line, which has different packages with many classes in it. Now If I try to compile package by package It's complaining about other referenced classes of different packages. So I created .bat file, which includes all the packages, but it's complaining input line is too long.
    D:\jdk1.3.1\bin>app.bat
    My bat file is
    javac -d d:\Application\build d:\Application\source\com\ibc\rules\login\*.java d:\Application\source\com\ibc\rules\lookup\*.java .................d:\Application\source\com\ibc\wid\events\*.java d:\Application\source\com\ibc\wid\frames\cust\*.java ...
    and so on............
Is there any solution for this problem?
    Thanks in advance....

I think the prefered and more elegant way to compile project including packages should be writing makefiles including their compilation, installation, deploying - rules ..
Make is really powerful, the maybe only weak-point is that there are some distribution of them, gnu-make, microsoft nmake .. which are slightly different, that made porting among platforms difficult.
The jakarta-ant was a new approach to this which uses xml parser to proof the dependencies, etc ..
Because I'm not familiar yet with xml & ant and as a in-blooded unix user, "make" is still my prefered way to do roject.
The easiest way to get unix environment required for using make in Windows platforms is to download the "unxutils". It includes make, bzip2, diff, ... and other unix-tools. Refer to this (found from search by google) :
    http://www.weihenstephan.de/~syring/win32/
    http://www.weihenstephan.de/~syring/win32/UnxUtils.zip
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/unxutils/
For more documentation on how to write makefile, use make -tool, see
    http://www.gnu.org/manual/

  • Consistent error when trying to install Command Line Tools

    Hi there,
after downloading XCode from the App-store without problems, I then tried to add the Command Line Tools via the Preference/Download/Components menu.
When it comes to install the downloaded package, Xcode states "An error occured while extractng files from DevSDK.pkh", and thats about it. Re-installed Xcode, same result. Downloaded the image for the CL-utilities by hand, several versions including older ones, with the same result. The error message in /var/log/install is not very enlighning (for me)
    NSUnderlyingError = "Error Domain=BOMCopierFatalError Code=1 \"The operation couldn\U2019t be completed. FinishStreamCompressorQueue error\" UserInfo=0x7ff9e1ec9ae0 {destinationPath=/var/folders/zz/zyxvpxvq6csfxvn_n0000000000000/Cleanup At Startup/PKInstallSandboxManager/1.sandbox/Root, offset=1156350, type=BOMCopierFatalError, sourcePath=/var/folders/2f/vqq1hf8d0851_5ty12s5g0ym0000gp/T/attached-image-2b66 48c01a1f4d20c9a96b45cf50d1e78e216eb4/Command Line Tools (Mountain Lion)/Packages/DevSDK.pkg, NSLocalizedFailureReason=FinishStreamCompressorQueue error}";
            PKInstallPackageIdentifier = "com.apple.pkg.DevSDK"
I am a bit stuck here (and in desperate need of a c++ compiler). Any suggestions what to do ?

the last entry in the list you provided is "zz" so ...
if you look at the second path in the error message (bolded)...:
    /var/folders/zz/zyxvpxvq6csfxvn_n0000000000000/Cleanup At Startup/PKInstallSandboxManager/1.sandbox/Root
you will see that the path matches.  If you don't feel compfortable navigating via the terminal you can also navigate via the finder and go directly to this folder by selecting the menu item "Go > Go To Folder...":
    then enter the path "/var/folders"
you will see the "zz" folder in there.  you can open that and continue until you can see the folder "zyxvpxvq6csfxvn_n0000000000000"
Here is view from the terminal and the Finder of the same structure:
    I have that same folder:
select this folder and delete (I think you will have to authenticate to remove).... sorry I am not going to remove since things are working on my end.
locate the other folder and do the same.

  • Deploy an EAR file thru command line?

I have been able to deploy the Petstore.ear file from
the 10G AS Deploy EAR file option in the Server admin console.
Now how do I to run this ear via the command line ?
    Any suggestions please?

    In ias9041 enterprise, I do
    $IAS_HOME/dcm/bin/dcmctl deployapplication -a myapp -f /root/myapp.ear -co home
    $IAS_HOME/dcm/bin/dcmctl redeployapplication -a myapp -f /root/myapp.ear -co home
$IAS_HOME/dcm/bin/dcmctl undeployapplication -a myapp -co home
I don't use the OEM at all. I do everything in command line with dcmctl and opmnctl. Read oracle's doc for more info.

  • (sqr 2515) input required user interaction but user interaction was disabled by the -XI command line

    hi ,
i'm getting below while running sqr in 3-tier mode using process scheduler.
(sqr 2515) input required user interaction but user interaction was disabled by the -XI command line
can any one suggest me to resolve this problem

You should be able to get some more precise information from your Xorg logs, but I would bet it is related to the evdev driver. Some of the options in your xorg.conf no longer work with the latest version. For now you should be able to either map your mouse directly to the appropriate /dev/event* entry or change to the standard mouse driver, both of those methods should be in the wiki.
You are supposed to be able to use the evdev driver without the input section of your xorg.conf by using dbus/hal autodetection, but AFAIK at the moment the xorg-server package still isn't compiled with hal support, so you would have to patch and rebuild the package.

  • File adapter OS command line - Calling a command remotely ??

    Hi,
We have a scenario where in which receiver file adapter after putting a file on the FTP  , a subsequent XML loader needs to be called which would load data into the client legacy ERP system.
There seems to be some idea about doing it through file adapter OS command line.
The problem is the how to call this loader command remotely from our file adapter OS command line.
Any help would be appreciated ???

  • Command-line parameters and dbxtool

Hello, I'm trying to call dbxtool from a script in order to start a debug session. My command line is something like this:
    dbxtool -E prog -arg1 -arg2
Where "-arg1 -arg2" are arguments accepted by prog. However dbxtool seems to be trying to process those args itself, so upon launch of dbxtool I get a dialog saying "dbxtool: unrecognized option '-arg1'".
I don't think this is a quoting issue with my debugging script, since I get this error when simply running dbxtool as above from the command line.
Any tips on how to pass these args in correctly?
    Thanks,
    -Jason

I will submit a bug report, thanks for the link.
Yes, we're using -E for legacy reasons. We have a script that sets up the environment we need, and then launches the debugger. For Studio 11 and previously we used sunstudio -E, so now with Studio 12 it seems that dbxtool is more appropriate.
I realize that the parameters could be entered in dbxtool, but our users are accumstomed to providing them on the command-line call to our script. Having to enter them in dbxtool is seen as an extra step, retrograde, etc. It's difficult enough getting them to use Solaris over Windows as it is. ;-)
I did notice that the dbxtool manpage mentions "If you intend to embed dbxtool in a shell script or driver program, consider using ss_attach", which sounded good, but ss_attach doesn't seem to accept parameters.
