Commands executed when Terminal opened

Hello.
I can't remember the file (i believe it's in /etc/) and it has a few commands that get executed with each terminal window that you create.
I put a few alias commands in there but want to modify them and forget the file.
Thanks.

There are several possible files.
The exact one depends on several factors, including the shell you use.
The most likely candidates are ~/.cshrc ~/.bashrc ~/.tcshrc and ~/.profile, amongst others (all of these files are in your home directory, not /etc/)
You can try running the command:
grep alias ~/.*
which will give you a list of all the hidden files in your home directory that contain alias commands. Hopefully this will help identify the file you're after.

  • Command executing on Terminal startup

whenever i open Terminal, something is causing it to run a command:
    /Applications/GravSim; exit
which invariably runs the command and exits, making the only way for me to actually get into a shell to be using the "New Command" option under "File". I've seen other posts with similar problems, but theres seemed to be fixable by editing a .cshrc or .login file, neither of which I can find using "ls -a" in any directories I would think would be normal (although I am somewhat new to terminal). The only thing I can figure is happening is that Terminal is for some reason running the last successful opening of Terminal (the last thing that may have opened terminal before this may have been me double-click-opening the shell program /Applications/Gravsim.
is there some file im missing or something i can edit that will just make terminal always open regularly? (and yes, i have tried editing my preferences to execute a specific command (/bin/zsh) upon opening a new terminal window)

    Try ~/Library/Preferences
You must have it in there

  • Bash error when terminal opened

    Hello,
First of all I'm very new to unix so please forgive me newbness.
    The problem is the following
I tried to install cakephp on my mac and when I had the export the $PATH variable ,something went wrong. When I start my terminal I get the following errors:
-bash: export: `:/Users/username/Library/cakephp/cake/console': not a valid identifier
-bash: export: `:/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/opt/local/bin: /opt/local/sbin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11/bin': not a valid identifier
I did a quite a lot of googling and found lot threads about this path, but I don't now how to fix those since its not complaining about the $PATH variable.
    echo $PATH gives
    /opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/bin:/Applications/ MAMP/bin/php5.3/bin
I tried to install cakephp on mamp, but apperantly atleast the $PATH variable and something else is wrong.

    Hey,
I was able to open hidden files with the textwrangler. Progress!
Here are the contents of the .profile file
    export PATH=/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/bin:/Applications/MAMP/bin/php5.3/bin :/Users/<myusername/Library/cakephp/cake/console :$PATH
    # MacPorts Installer addition on 2010-05-11at00:36:31: adding an appropriate PATH variable for use with MacPorts.
    export PATH=/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:$PATH
    # Finished adapting your PATH environment variable for use with MacPorts.
    # MacPorts Installer addition on 2010-05-11at00:36:31: adding an appropriate MANPATH variable for use with MacPorts.
    export MANPATH=/opt/local/share/man:$MANPATH
    # Finished adapting your MANPATH environment variable for use with MacPorts.
There was only the .profile file of those three that you mentioned. Thanks for the replies!

  • Terminal opens when clicking desktop from finder window

I don't know when started to happen, but when I open a window of Finder, and click in the left sidebar to see what is in Desktop, it didn't show in the right panel, it open a Terminal window.
If I click Applications, or Music, it works good, but not with Desktop.
Any ideas? I alredy installed Lion again 3 times, but when restoring from Time Machine, it starts to doing that.
    Thank's!

Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy – do not type – the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    ls -@Odel ~/Desktop
Post any lines of output that appear below what you entered – the text, please, not a screenshot. If your user name appears in the output, anonymize it for privacy's sake.

  • "Run Command" executing upon opening file with explicit doctype

I have noticed that when I open a file that has the !doctype
explicitly set that it does a "Run Command." Why is this and how do
I get it to stop? Is it something in my code that's triggering it,
or is it because the !doctype is set?

What line breaks? How is it changing them? Or are you talking
    about how
    you have formatted the code?
Sorry - I can't help you with that if you are. But are you

  • When I open terminal It issues /bin/bash; exit automatically

When I open up a terminal window it issues an extra command
    /bin/bash; exit
If I open up window settings and look at processes I can see that I have two bash shells running. This extra bash shell overwrites my aliases I have
set up in my .profile file.
I have looked and looked for an answer and I cannot seem to find one. I did not have this issue a few days ago. (I admit I have been doing some odd tweaks recently but I do not know how this happened).
If I log in as another user on my system I do not have this extra bash shell. So whatever it is it seems to be linked to my account.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That was it. Just to detail what I did
    I went into
    patman/Library/Preferences/
    and removed com.apple.Terminal.plist
I did look at the original and found a field
ExecutionString that had the command in it!
I decided not to mess with it and just deleted the entire
file. Terminal recreated it when I started terminal again.
Thanks a bunch this was driving me nuts for the
    past day.

  • Bought my 1st iPhone today (4S)  Just started using for less than 5 minutes and it has a voice command that talks on Everything and the pages wont scroll up and down and cant change screens from the page it boots on.  Wrong apps open when I open an app...

So I bought my wife our 1st iPhone 4S today w/ Verizon.  I booted it up and it started having a voice repeat every command, and function (no, its not Siri).
BTW...  Siri doesn't work, I can't scroll in the settings, when I open an app it actually opens the wrong app, and I can't find a way do fix any of it.  I tried a hard boot by holding down the power button and the button on the lower midddle of the phone.  When it rebooted, it got worse.  Now what?
Not too excited about switching phones if this has already begun...  Any advice would be appreciated.

    Huh, that's a new one...
Can you try Firefox in [[Safe Mode | Safe Mode]] to see if the problem goes away. I'm thinking it's an extension.
*Run ''firefox.exe -safe-mode'' in the search bar on the Start Menu. (Make sure Firefox is closed)
Have you added any new extensions recently around the time this started happening? Your system details shows the following:

Sorry, but you must Command + for every page. It's not permanent.
If you haven't tried yet, check out Zoom in Safari > Preferences > Accessibility

  • When I open the print command page it's blank

When I try to print an online pdf document that I see on my screen and press the appropriate button to send the command to my printer (or use CTRL +P), I get the Adobe printer command page totaly devoid of words.  Just buttons with no labels.  The boxes for showing which pages are to be printed show but no words.  Pressing the button I figure must be the print command allows me to print the entire document, even if I only want one page. I have deleted Reader entirely and reloaded it.  Same problem.

    I am using Adobe Reader X, version10.1.2
This is one of the two versions of the print command page I get.  I got this by using CTRL+P.  The fade in commands on hover commands at the bottom of the page of the pdf document would not work - no response at all.  I will see if I can create the other empty printer command page after I send this one.

I'm using Snow Leopard on my MacbookPro, and from a couple of days when I open the Terminal every other app that is opened stops working, there is the constant spinning beach ball, and the log in in the Terminal doesn't happen, instead it says that the login has timed out after 300 seconds that it tries to log in.

    Hi
Is it possible that when I open new ttisql windows I will be able to use all the recent commands from previous ttisql windows ?
    Thanks

I don't think this is possible. ttIsql only stores the (last 100) commands of the current session. Refer to "Using ttIsql's command history" in the Operations Guide. You could store commands in a history file which would be persistent between ttIsql sessions but it's not a graceful way of achieving what you want.
