Compairing a string to multiple strings

This is what I need to accomplish in seudocode
if (string != "this" or "that" or "this" or "that")
Id do it with 12 different or statements
if(string != "this" || string != "that" || ...etc){}but Im wondering if there is a cleaner way to go about this.

String bla = "String4";
String[] checks = { "String1", "String2", "String3", ... };
boolean match = false;
for (int i = 0; i < checks.length; i++) {
  if (checks.equals(bla)) {
match = true;
break;
if (match) {

  • Is there a way in Oracle to return multiple rows as a single string?

    Hi gurus,
    I just got help from your guys fixing my dynamic sql problem. What I am doing in that function is to return a single string from multiple rows and I use it in the select statement. It works fine once the problem was solved. But is there any way in Oracle to do this in the select statement only? I have a table that stores incidents (incident_id is the PK) and another table that stores the people that are involved in an incident.
    Incident_table
    (incident_id number PK);
    Incident_people_table
    (incident_id number PK/FK,
    person_id number PK);
    Now in a report, I need to return the multiple rows of the Incident_People_table as a single string separated by a comma, for example, 'Ben, John, Mark'. I asked the SQL Server DBA about this and he told me he can do that in SQL Server by using a variable in the sql statement and SQL Server will auomatically iterate the rows and concatenate the result (I have not seen his actual work). Is there a similar way in Oracle? I have seen some examples here for some similar requests using the sys_connect_by_path, but I wonder if it is feasible in a report sql that is already rather complex. Or should I just stick to my simpler funcion?
    Thanks.
    Ben

  • How to get multiple values using HttpSession.getAttribute(java.lang.String)

    Hey Guys
    I'm trying to find a way to get multiple values using the following method
    HttpSession.getAttribute(java.lang.String)
    Here's the scenerio. Its a already written application and now i'm trying to make some changes. earlier in the jsp page a combo box was used and value was retrieved in the servlet using the getAttribute method of Session. Now I'm using a html multiple selection list and have to retrieve all the values selected in the list in the servlet. Can anyone please suggest me how to do that. HTTPRequest class has a method getParameterValues which will let me do that but i have to do is using HTTPSession.
    Thanks for your time to read this

    I'm not sure what you are trying to do. You can only use session.getAttribute to retrieve something that has already been stored in the session with a previous setAttribute. If you need to store multiple values under one attribute name using setAttribute, you can store an array, or an ArrayList or whatever type of Collection you want. The request.getParameterValues method is the only way you can retrieve form parameters than can have multiple values. If the servlet hasn't already processed these parameters and put them into the session for you, you have to use request.getParameterValues.

  • How can I send multiple string commands into a VISA write?

    Hi Fellow LabVIEW users
    I am very new to LabVIEW (2.5 months) so please forgive me if my lingo is not up to par.
    How can I send multiple string commands to a VISA write. For example each string command looks like this
    1) 3A00 0000 0000 FFFF FFFF FFFF 0000 0000 FF00 0000 0000 0000 0000 0033 (Scenario 1)
    2) 3A01 0000 0000 FFFF FFFF FFFF 0000 0000 FF00 0000 0000 0000 0000 0034 (Scenario 2)
    3) 3A01 0000 0000 33FF FFFF FFFF 0000 0000 FF00 0000 0000 0000 0000 0067 (Scenario 3).
    and so on and so forth. And there are a number of scenarios.
    Each String scenario will give a different string output which will be interpreted differently in the front panel.
    Right now I have to manually change the string commands on the front panel to give me the desired output. How can I do this without manually changing the commands i.e. hard coding each scenario into the block diagram?
    Thanks, any feedback will help.

  • How to use multiple VCI strings for lap 1300 and 1200 (option 60) in one pool?

    Hi All,
    Hope to you a very happy new year,
    I have two differnt LAP 1300 and 1200 in my network and I need to add theme to the WLC,
    I successed to add one of theme by the option 60 in the DHCP pool at the Core SW,
    So my quetion is below:
    How to use multiple VCI strings for lap 1300 and 1200 (option 60) in one pool?
    Thanks in Advanced,
    Ahmed,

    To add to Scott's post.  Option 60 would be useful if you needed to put certain types of AP on specific controllers.  Otherwise, no real need to use it for the most part.
    Though, I do recall an issue a few years ago that some windows machines had issues getting DHCP if option 43 is being returned.
    Now, on an IOS switch, you can only configure one option 60 per DHCP scope

  • Saving string  from multiple clients on a server data structue

    I have a server which receives updates from multiple clients ( in this example, football scores which are updated periodically by the clients.)
    When the server receives the scores it needs to store them and at certain time intervals send the complete list of scores to multiple terminals at various locations.
    I am approaching this task in stages...
    stage 1.
    ..create the clients and server ...test the clients can send the data and the server can receive the data and output to screen..
    this is completed
    stage 2...
    a/ on the server side store the received scores in a data structure (ArrayList<String> is what I'm thinking.)
    b/ periodically output all scores to the screen (maybe every 30 seconds) and empty the ArrayList..am looking at the Timer class for this part..
    stage 3
    create the monitors and output scores to monitors periodically..
    ======================================================
    right now I'm at stage 2a ie trying to store the received scores in a data structure.
    i've created a method saveScore in the StoreScore class which is called by the StoreScore run method...
    The saveScore method creates an ArrayList and adds the score to it...
    Question
    does every thread create a new instance of storedScores and therefore the scores are stored in a multitude of data structures?
    I think the answer is yes and if so then this is not the solution...
    What I'm thinking is , as all scores can be outputted to the server screen via System.out.println, is there not a way of saving all these scores in a single data structure?
    The code below is the server code..
    any advice much appreciated....thank you
    /*=============================================================== */
    import java.io.*;
    import java.net.*;
    import java.util.*;
    import java.util.concurrent.*;

    try{
    ServerSocket servesock = new ServerSocket(portNum);
    // for service requests on port
    while (true){
    // wait for a service request on port portNum
    Socket socket = servesock.accept();
    // submit request to pool
    pool.submit(new StoreScore(socket));
    }catch(IOException e){}
    class StoreScore implements Runnable {
    BufferedReader reader;
    Socket sock;
    public StoreScore(Socket clientSOcket) {
    try {
    sock = clientSOcket;
    InputStreamReader isReader = new InputStreamReader(sock.getInputStream());
    reader = new BufferedReader(isReader);
    } catch (Exception ex) { ex.printStackTrace(); }
    public void run() {
    String message;
    try {
    while ((message = reader.readLine()) != null) {
    // System.out.println("latest score: " + message);
    saveScore(message);
    } catch (Exception ex) { ex.printStackTrace(); }
    public void saveScore(String message){
         ArrayList<String> storedScores = new ArrayList<String>();
         storedScores.add(message);
         Iterator<String> t = storedScores.iterator();
              while(t.hasNext()){
                   String s = t.next();
                   System.out.println(s);
    }

    does every thread create a new instance of storedScores and therefore the scores are stored in a multitude of data structures?
    I think the answer is yes and if so then this is not the solution...The answer is yes. However, threads can share data, if they were properly synchronized. You should read the threading tutorial before creating a lot of hard to debug mistakes.

  • How do I input multiple string constants into VISA Write

    I am trying to put in multiple string commands into VISA Write to control a motor arm. However, when I use "concatenate strings" to link together my multiple string constants, only the first command is executed, and neglects the other commands below it. Should I be using something other then "concatenate strings" or do I need to use a delay so that the next command executes when the one before it is finished? Help.

    Concatenate strings should work or just use one string constant with multiple lines. The problem you're having could be that the instrument requires some sort of delay but without details on the instrument, only you or the vendor can answer that. Some instruments will have a queue and others won't. The other possiblity is that you need some kind of termination character between commands. This might be a carriage return for a serial instrument or the ; character for a GPIB one. Check the instrument manual or provide the make and model and maybe someone here has some experience with it.

  • How can I save multiple data coming in from my data string

    I am a newbie at labview. I have a scale connected to my RS 232 and made a VI to display the changing scale. I am trying to save the multiple changes as my weight varies but have been only able to save the last value. Is there a simple way to save all the values I see in my VI to a file for later plotting? I have done one before using indexing but the case this time is that I am receiving a character string and not a numeric array. Any examples or advice would be great!!! Thanks
    Gerald

    Hi Gerald,
    What you need to do is write to a file continuously, i.e. after each point you collect.  You can do so by opening a new/existing file, write to it inside your while loop, and close it once you are done collecting and writing data points, i.e. outside the loop.
    I believe the following example is a good demonstration of that operation.
    Best of luck,

  • How to process multiple rows of data into a single string

    Hello,
    I am trying to process multiple rows of text from an Oracle database into one field to display on a report as continuous text. Below is sample data. The text field is 55 characters wide so anything longer is broken into multiple rows. I need to recombine it for display.
    line          text
    1             IN THE N.E. QUADRANT OF THE INTERSECTION OF THE FAIRFAX
    2              COUNTY PARKWAY AND THE DULLES AIRPORT ACCESS AND THE T
    3             OLL ROAD AND SOUTH OF SUNSET HILLS ROAD
    I tried creating a formula field but it did not work, below is the code in Visual Basic syntax. I also tried using the Maximum() and UBound() functions without luck. I don't quite understand how to make the UBound() work; it threw a lot of errors.
    Dim i As Number
    Dim strLocDesc As String
    For i = 1 To count({LDS_AR_RL_COMM.ART_LINE_NUM})
        strLocDesc = strLocDesc & {LDS_AR_RL_COMM.ART_COMM_RMK}(i)
    Next i
    formula = strLocDesc
    Any ideas on how to solve this?

    Hello Allison,
    You can try this:
    Create a formula called @StoreText, place it in the details and have the following code in it:
    WhilePrintingRecords;
    Global StringVar Text1;
    Global StringVar TextRest;
    if {field.line} = 1 then
    Text1:= {field.text} else
    if {field.line} >= 2 then
    TextRest := TextRest+" "+{field.text};
    In the Group Footer you can have a formula called @GetStoreText with the following code in it:
    WhilePrintingRecords;
    Global StringVar Text1;
    Global StringVar TextRest;
    Text1+varTextRest;
    See how that works out for you.

  • How can I convert string to the record store with multiple records in it?

    Hi Everyone,
    How can I convert the string to the record store, with multiple records? I mean I have a string like as below:
    "SecA: [Y,Y,Y,N][good,good,bad,bad] SecB: [Y,Y,N][good,good,cant say] SecC: [Y,N][true,false]"
    now I want to create a record store with three records in it for each i.e. SecA, SecB, SecC. So that I can retrieve them easily using enumerateRecord.
    Please guide me and give me some links or suggestions to achieve the above thing.
    Best Regards

    Hi,
    I'd not use multiple records for this case. Managing more records needs more and redundant effort.
    Just use single record. Create ByteArrayOutputStream->DataOutputStream and put multiple strings via writeUTF() (plus any other data like number of records at the beginning...), then save the byte array to the record...
    It's easier, it's faster (runtime), it's better manageable...

    Hi DH, sorry for not being clear.
    It works when I create the connection from that web part that you want to be connected with the Query String Filter Web part. So let's say you created a web part page. Then you could connect a parameterized Excel Workbook to an Excel Web Access Web Part
    (or a Performance Point Dashboard etc.) and you insert it into your page and add
    a Query String Filter Web Part . Then you can connect them by editing the Query String Filter Web Part but also by editing the Excel Web Access Web Part. And only when I created from the latter it worked
    with multiple values for one parameter. If you have any more questions let me know. See you, Ingo

  • Looking for a better way to determine string variable from multiple options

    Hi,
    I trying to figure out a better way to determine a string variable from multiple options.
    Say i have five pictures each with a different filename: img1 - img5...these file names could be named anything really but for this example i will keep them as img1, img2, img3, img4 and img5.
    I want to display a messagebox with the string depending on what a certain variable is.
    So for example, we have the number X, if X = 1 then i want the messagebox to show "img1" as the message
    Essentially the way I have been doing it so far is:
    Private Sub WhichImage()
    Dim ImageName As String = ""
    Dim i as integer
    If i = 0 Then
    ImageName = "img1"
    End If
    If i = 1 Then
    ImageName = "img2"
    End If
    If i = 2 Then
    ImageName = "img3"
    End If
    If i = 3 Then
    ImageName = "img4"
    End If
    If i = 4 Then
    ImageName = "img5"
    End If
    MessageBox.show(imagename, "Name of image", MsgBox.Style.OkOnly, MsgBoxResult.Ok)
    end
    Up until now, this has been fine, but what if I have 50 images, do I have to do this for all 50 images? or is there an easier way like putting the image names into a text file and have it read from the file depending on what the variable i equals? If so,
    how do I go about this? Does each image name go on a separate line? can it just be separated by a comma instead? or is there a better way?
    Please note that i know that i have declared "i" above in my code and not intialised it with anything, in reality "i" comes from somewhere else in the program so please ignore that part, it is not what I am concerned with.
    Thanks
    Mersec

    Does each image name go on a separate line? can it just be separated by a comma instead? or is there a better way?
    Arrays are useful for this.
    Dim imagenames() As String = {"img1", "img2", "img3", "img4", "img5"}
    Dim imagename As String = imagenames(i)
    MessageBox.Show(imagename, "Name of image")
    Any sort of collection will do instead of an array, and may be simpler to manage. There are many other options - the most suitable one probably depends on where the names originally come from.  For instance, if you are getting them from a folder
    using the FileSystem.GetFiles method, then they are already in a collection.
    If the files names never change then you may as well include them in the program code, using something like the code above.  If they can change, then you could use a text file, but that means you need a file update routine.  If that is required
    then the way you store the names will dictate how you access them.

  • Need to concatonate multiple values for same key columns into one string

    Hi...I'm attempting to use PL/SQL to read through a table containing more than one column value for a set of keys, and concatonate those values together into one string. For example, in the STUDENT table, for a STUDENT_ID there are multiple MAJORS_ACCOMPLISHED such as History, Biology and Mathematics. Each of the majors is stored in a different row with the same STUDENT_ID due to different faculty DEPARTMENT values.
    I want to read through the table and write out a single row for the STUDENT_ID and
    concatonate the values for MAJORS_ACCOMPLISHED. The next row should be another STUDENT_ID and the MAJORS ACCOMPLISHED for that student..etc.
    I've hit a wall trying to use cursors and WHILE loops to get the results I want. I'm hoping someone may have run across this before and have a suggestion. Tks!!

    I think you are looking for string aggregation.
    The following are the replies posted by me in the forum recently on the same case.
