Compilation and Interpretation

class test {
public static void main() {
if i am running this program ...it compiles but it doesnt run...
why it didnt give me a compilation error..
Could someone tell me what is done during compilation and interpretation..
Thanks,

I purposely missed String args[] in the main...
wat my question is
why the compiler didnt check the main method signature...its done only when i run...

  • 'Hello' does not want to compile and interpret

    I recently downloaded the latest JDK Update 12 from the sun website.
    I typed the basic hello program. The problem is in the compiling and interpreting of the program. In the command prompt, I made a new directory(folder) titled javacoding; in which I also saved the source code for the hello world program. After which i switched to it and I set the path of bin containing the compiler and interpreter to this directory. I typed in the following; javac Hello.java.
    I set the path thus: C:\javacoding> set path =%path%;C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_11\bin;.;
    However, the program does not compile and the following message is displayed instead:
    'javac' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
    Here is a sample of the program I typed
    class Hello
    /*This program displays Hello*/
    public static void main (String args[])
    //This is the main method
    System.out.println("Hello, World!");
    For the record this was done on a Vista system.
    Thank you.

    Presuming that the OP (that's you Ikenna) is a system administrator on there own box, then just set the system PATH... all users will pick it up from there... also setting at the user-level just appends a useless duplicate entry to the PATH, slowing down (unsucessful) path-searches... not that you'd notice.
    *@OP:* Show us a dir of your jdk-bin directory... we'll need the exact command and it's output (at least down to javac.exe)... Question is: Is that directory exactly what's in your PATH? so also show us the command and output of echo %PATH% ... just post the whole command session (typos and all) between a pair of {code} tags.
    Cheers. Keith.

  • Runtime error after successful compile and link with cl.exe

    Finally, got the configuration for cl.exe and link.exe right and got a successful compile and link to produce a dll. Then ran the main method of my Java class. The main method calls the constructor, and loading the class runs the static block which loads the native dll. I get one of those error files of the type hs_err_pid4064.log. The file is as follows:

    The dll I'm wrapping is C++ VC++ compiled.
    Would like to know what I do to trouble-shoot this error and hope to fix it?
    Jim

    Using Java print statement was able to show that the my JNI dll was being loaded and that the problem was in the first call to one of my JNI functions. Then by using "DebugBreak()" in that function and gradually moving it down line by line through the function was able to isolate the line causing the problem. Unfortunately it is the line where I call a function from the dll I'm wrapping. See newer thread.

    You can usually speed up PL/SQL units by compiling them into native code (processor-dependent system code), which is stored in the SYSTEM tablespace.
    You can natively compile any PL/SQL unit of any type, including those that Oracle Database supplies.
    Natively compiled program units work in all server environments, including shared server configuration (formerly called "multithreaded server") and Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC).

    And this from the section How PL/SQL Native Compilation Works
    >
    How PL/SQL Native Compilation Works
    Without native compilation, the PL/SQL statements in a PL/SQL unit are compiled into an intermediate form, system code, which is stored in the catalog and interpreted at run time.
    With PL/SQL native compilation, the PL/SQL statements in a PL/SQL unit are compiled into native code and stored in the catalog. The native code need not be interpreted at run time, so it runs faster.
    Because native compilation applies only to PL/SQL statements, a PL/SQL unit that uses only SQL statements might not run faster when natively compiled, but it does run at least as fast as the corresponding interpreted code. The compiled code and the interpreted code make the same library calls, so their action is the same.

    True, the point we're both doing is that one sub-vi OP's probably debugged is in highlight mode. Disabling highlighting as well as disable debugging must be done on a per vi basis.

  • Is there such thing as a "compile and execute statement" in Java?

    I wanted to know if there's any way to compile and execute a program "within" another program.

    Yes, but the classes to do so aren't officially supported by Sun as far as I know.
    And you must be able to assume a thing or two about the stuff you compile, such as existing constructors or factory methods etc, otherwise it gets hairy.
    Here's some example code (haven't tried it, so excuse any spelling errors etc) to compile the source code in a file called MyClass.java:
    ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    new sun.tools.javac.Main(baos,null).compile("MyClass.java");
    String theMsg = baos.toString();
    if (theMsg.length() > 0)
        // NiftyErrorHandlingHere
    }After that, you can load it with a simple ClassLoader.loadClass() call and create instances of it.
    It must be compiled with the tools.jar file in the classpath, to find the sun.tools.javac.Main class.
    However, for any such dynamically compiled class to be of any use to you, you must be able to assume something about it, such as implementing interfaces or whatever, otherwise it's a kind of pointless exercise.

  • How to compile and register a Java CFX tag with multiple class files?

    All-
    If this is the wrong forum for CFX questions, please let me
    know.
    I need to determine how to compile and register a Java CFX
    tag that contains multiple class files. One class file implements
    the CustomTag interface and the other class files implement various
    supporting classes. All of the documentation that I have found
    talks about using a single class file. I am assuming that a JAR
    file will be involved, but I am not sure of the specifics.
    Thanks in advance for your help.
    -Josh

    Yes, it will involve a jar. Use your java IDE (eclipse,
    etcetera ..) to create a jar containing all of the classes. Check
    your ide's documentation for how to create jar files. After you
    have created the jar, place the jar in the CF class path so CF will
    recognize it. For example the {cf_root}/WEB-INF/lib directory. CF
    must be restarted before it will detect the new jar. After
    restarting CF, register the CFX tag in the ColdFusion Administrator
    using the name of the class that implements the CustomTag
    interface.
    Though it is worth noting you can also instantiate java
    classes directly from ColdFusion (ie without using a CFX
    tag).

  • Is there anyone at all here who has successfully compiled and deployed an SSRS custom report item in VS2012?

    Is there anyone at all here who has successfully compiled and deployed an SSRS custom report item in VS2012?  Is there a demo out there that actually works in VS2012?  Is there anyone who has actually been able to compile and deploy that
    apparently obsolete Polygons demo?  (Pardon my impatience but I'm running a bit short of time here.)
    After much hacking and googling I was able to get Polygons to compile but I still can't deploy it to the toolbox.  ('The custom report item type PolygonsDesigner is not installed').   I've modified the RSReportDesigner.config
    as instructed but I have no rssrvpolicy.config file on my local machine and
    as yet I have no idea if that is necessary for local development.
    In order to get it to compile I first added the reference  C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\Microsoft.ReportingServices.ProcessingCore.dll to both projects.
    To the PolygonsDesigner Project I also added the references:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\Microsoft.ReportDesigner.Controls.dll
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\Microsoft.ReportingServices.Designer.11.0.dll
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Tools\Binn\Microsoft.ReportingServices.Interfaces.dll
    Are these the correct references?
    Exactly what software do you need installed on your local machine in addition to VS2012 in order to create a custom control?
    (Designer.11.0 was added per the instructions in reference: https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/783391/unable-to-integrate-previously-working-ssrs-custom-report-item-to-vs-2012s-toolbox
    After that I added the alias RSDesigner to it's properties and   extern alias RSDesigner; at the top of the PolygonsDesigner.cs file. )
    As of now, the top of the PolygonsDesigner.cs is as follows.  I don't recall making any other changes to the code.  As far as I can remember this is all I did in order to be able to compile the code in VS2012.
        extern alias RSDesigner;
        using System;
        using System.ComponentModel;
        using System.ComponentModel.Design;
        using System.Collections;
        using System.Collections.Generic;
        using System.Diagnostics;
        using System.Drawing;
        using System.Windows.Forms;
        using Microsoft.ReportDesigner;
        using Microsoft.ReportDesigner.Design;
        using Microsoft.ReportingServices.Interfaces;
        using Microsoft.ReportingServices.RdlObjectModel;
        using System.Xml;
        using System.Xml.Xsl;
        using System.Xml.XPath;
        [LocalizedName("Polygons")]
        [Editor(typeof(CustomEditor), typeof(ComponentEditor))]
        [ToolboxBitmap(typeof(PolygonsDesigner), "Polygons.ico")]
        [CustomReportItem("Polygons")]
        [ToolboxItem(typeof(RSDesigner::Microsoft.ReportDesigner.Shell.CRIToolboxItem))]
        [System.CLSCompliant(false)]
        public class PolygonsDesigner : CustomReportItemDesigner
        {   etc...

    Just fixed this myself.
    It appears the documentation online is wrong and the sample code is missing a reference to a reporting services dll and an attribute.
    What you need to do to get it working in VS2012 is add a reference to: Microsoft.ReportingServices.designer.11.0.dll to the PolygonsDesigner project and then add the following attribute to the PolygonsDesigner class: [ToolboxItem(typeof(Microsoft.ReportDesigner.Shell.CRIToolboxItem))]
    I also removed the [System.CLSCompliant(false)] attribute.
    You then recompile and place both dlls in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies directory and the PolygonsDesigner.dll into the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS11.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer\bin
    or what ever is you reporting services path.
    You also need to change the Microsoft example for the rereportserver.config file to:
        <ReportItemDesigner>
       <ReportItem Name="Polygons" Type="Microsoft.Samples.ReportingServices.PolygonsDesigner, PolygonsDesigner" />
        </ReportItemDesigner>
        <ReportItems>
       <ReportItem Name="Polygons" Type="Microsoft.Samples.ReportingServices.PolygonsCRI,PolygonsCRI"/>
        </ReportItems>
     Notice that I changed the namespaces and class to what is in the actual code so if you change it make sure you change it here.
    And here in the RSReportDesigner.config:
    <ReportItems>
          <ReportItem Name="Polygons" Type="Microsoft.Samples.ReportingServices.PolygonsCustomReportItem,PolygonsCRI" />
        </ReportItems>
        <ReportItemDesigner>
          <ReportItem Name="Polygons" Type="Microsoft.Samples.ReportingServices.PolygonsDesigner, PolygonsDesigner" />
        </ReportItemDesigner>
        <ReportItemConverter>
          <Converter Source="Chart" Target="Polygons" Type="PolygonsCRI.PolygonsConverter, PolygonsDesigner" />
        </ReportItemConverter>
    Notice I haven't changed the last part as I didn't know what the PolygonsCRI.PolygonsConverter was.
    And make sure the rssrvpolicy.config looks like this:
         <CodeGroup class="UnionCodeGroup" version="1" PermissionSetName="FullTrust" Description="This code group grants PolygonsCRI.dll FullTrust permission. ">
           <IMembershipCondition class="UrlMembershipCondition" version="1" Url="C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.SQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer\bin\PolygonsCRI.dll" />
        </CodeGroup>
    After a restart of ssrs and relaunch of VS2012 I opened a test project and added the PolygonsDesigner.dll to the toolbox and it works.

  • How to compile and run servlets in Eclipse?

    Does somebody known how can I compile and run servlets in Eclipse IDE? I've added and configured Tomcat's plugin. I've created a project with my example servlets source, and I don't know what farther. How do I have compile it without main method? I must add web.xml file from Tomcat's directory into projects in Eclipse and modify it?

    Try googling for "eclipse servlet", surely someone has written instructions.

  • How can I compile and run other java classes from within an application?

    Hello there everyone! I really hope that someone can help me. I am writing a program that must be able to compile and run other java classes that are in different files, much like development environments like Kawa or Forte allow you to do.
    There has to be a way of doing this ( I hope!! ), but i can't seem to find it!!
    I have tried using this command to compile:
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec ("c:\\programs\\javac className.java");
    ...and this one to run:
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec ("c:\\programs\\java className");
    ...but neither works!!! I can compile and run classes that are in the same file as my application, but I can't get it to work at all for files in different directories or files.
    PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE help me - i've run out of ideas, and i need this to be working in 3 days!!!
    Thank you very much for any help anyone can give me, I really appreciate it!! Thanks again!!
    Adrian ( ...in distress!! )

    public class JavaCompiler{
       public static void main(String[] args)throws Exception{ //sorry bout the laziness
          if(args == null || args.length != 1){
             System.out.println("Usage: java JavaCompiler MyClass.java");
             System.exit(0);
          String className = args[0];
          Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
          Process p = rt.exec("javac " + className); //consider setting cpath for this
          p.waitFor();
          //now try to run after it is done.
          p = rt.exec("java " + className.substring(0, (className.length() - ".java".length()));
          p.waitFor();
          //do some other stuff
    }This should get you going. You may consider looking into the System.getProperty() method in order to determine the type of OS it is running on in order to findo out what command to run. I know that the sun tool listed above is nice, but by my understanding the sun tools provided are not guaranteed to stay the same. I'm no expert on this matter, but that is one of the reasons there is no API documentation for those tools. Also, I don't believe those tools come packaged with the JRE. (Of course if you are making an IDE it will be expected that the user has an sdk installed. Good luck with figuring this thing out.

  • Sorting songs in Compilations and the original albums without multiples

    I have a number of compilations as well as many, many albums in my Library. Is there a way to easily sort them in to, possibly, multiple compilations and let them remain in their original album as well?
    It's hard to believe that I'm the first one to ask this but I can't find it in a search. Thanks a bunch.

    If I understand correctly, you have two copies of Song A; in the original album and in a compilation album (like a movie soundtrack). You want to have one copy of the song connected to both albums.
    I would make one of the albums, probably the compilation, a playlist. Then you could delete the duplicates of the song. Instead of playing the compilation album directly from your music folder you'd have to use the playlist.
    Its not exactly what you want to do, but I don't think its possible to do what you would like to do. I'd love to be proved wrong though.

    Hi,

    Is this correct or is it a bug?
