Compress FLV to MOV

I have a number of FLV files I need to convert to MOV or MP4 formats. How can I do so?
Thank you

You should figure out what codec the FLV is using first. If its H.264, then all you need to do is change the extender from .flv to .mov. If its the On2, or Sorenson 3 codec, then you need to look at the video itself. Does it have areas that are transparent (i.e., does it have an alpha channel)? If so, you are not going to be able to convert the video without loosing the transparency.

  • How can I compress an Imported Movie even further?

    I have a 20 second movie 230 x 129 size. The file size is 1.2 mb. I then imported it into Flash. After it's all said and done the finall SWF is 1.7 mb. I plan to put this on my homepage, but I want the file to be smaller. I reduced the flash .jpg and output settings to their lowest but the file remaied at 1.7 mb so this tells me the imported movie is causing the large file size here.
    Is there something I can do to make my imported movie smaller so my resulting SWF is under 1 MB.
    Update:
    I just compressed the QT movie to 520 kb (the old movie size was 1.2 mb) and then imported it into my Flash file, then I published the SWF and the file size was still 1.7 mb. This means the Flash SWF file with an imported movie of 1.2 MB movie is the same File size as a Flash SWF file with an imported movie size of 520 kb. This doesn't make sense to me as the SWF file size should be a lot lower.
    1.2 mb imported movie. SWF file size = 1.7 mb
    520 kb imported movie. SWF file size = 1.7 mb
    What's up with that?

    i went through your instructions and with the trace event, thanks
    its looping now.. but only once and with a very noticeable gap in between
    import fl.video.VideoEvent;
    function onMouseClick(e:Event):void
        //navigate to next page from here
        trace("http://www.transformingscotland.com/?page_id=42");
    portal7.autoRewind = true;
    //Assign mouse event listener to player. In this case MouseDown player_name.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MouseDown, onMouseClick);
    portal7.addEventListener(VideoEvent.COMPLETE,onComplete);
    //Above eventListener checks to see if playback has finished/completed //So the onComplete function is called if finished
    function onComplete(e:VideoEvent):void
         //The autoRewind will reset to first frame and stop
        //Try one of the following below...Uncomment one at a time and try it...
        //player_name.source = URLFILETOPLAY;  OR
        //player_name.play();
         portal7.seek(0);  // <---This should position it a movie frame 0
         portal7.play("http://www.transformingscotland.com/wp-content/themes/Amirra/Amirra/images/portalavi.flv");
    ps - there's the ability to add fvars via the flash embed plugin that i use on the site.. (wordpress) not sure if that could be utilised for the hyperlinking?

  • Can I change audio codec when convert flv to mov ?

    I just get Total Video Converter from App store to convert my downloaded flv to mov.  My question is how can I change the audio codec to ac3, aac, or mp3?
    Below is its screenshot:

    A simple problem, I think you are beginner to this app.  In the tool bar, you can find a button "Settings", click it, you will get a window named "Options", and there are 4 tabs: "Video", "Audio", "Resize", "Crop&Pad", and "Audio" tab is the right you need like below:
    There, you can set your desired audio codec with option "Audio Codec"
    Hope this can help you. Good luck.

  • Compress a quciktime movie help..

    How do I compress a quicktime movie for e-mail? Some of my movies are to big and take long to send.

    It's very difficult to get movies down to a size where they can be sent through an email connection and still have acceptable quality. Most Internet service providers limit email attachments to a few megabytes, far too small for movies that are more than a few seconds long. A better option would probably be either to burn the movies to CD and mail them, or post them on a web site somewhere where they can be downloaded.
    Hope this helps.

  • Advice on compressing screen capture movies for web ?

    Hello everyone,
    I just am curious about what is the best way to go for compressing screen captures so that they maintain the best clarity for text. I've gone back and forth between MP4 (improved) and quicktime movies set to h.264... I am just curious what the general opinion here of what is best to use? It seems that MP4 improved produces larger files with less quality... Also it was a little confusing to see that compressor's h264 option is for "apple devices" or "dvd studio pro" and thus doesn't offer streaming as an option as it does with mp4-- so the only way to properly produce h264 files for web is to use the quicktime option and select h264 as it's compression type? Is this correct?

    What is the frame size of your source clip, and what frame size have you chosen for your output?
    Exactly what settings have you tried so far? Please share some details
    I would recommend using the Apple > Other Workflows > Web > Download > QuickTime 7 compatible > H.264 LAN as a starting point.
    Set a frame size (i.e. 1280x800, 1024x768 or 768x480, if you have a widescreen computer display) and adjust the video bitrate accordingly. The frame size you choose, should be divisible by 16, 8 or 4, for best quality. Have a look at this article for more info on that: http://www.flashsupport.com/books/fvst/files/tools/video_sizes.html
    For more info about H.246 and macroblocks, have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264
    For more details on getting the most out of H.264, have a look at the Apple tutorial Creating Amazing Video Content with H.264.
    1. Find the frame size you would like to end up with
    2. Adjust the video bitrate accordingly (set the keyframe interval to automatic)
    3. Enable Frame Controls in the Inspector window, and set the Resize Filter to Better or Best (gives you much better quality on downscaling, than without frame controls - do a test and see for your self)
    An other good tip, is to set an in/out point in the Preview window in Compressor, with a duration of maybe about 10 secs. That way you do not need to encode the whole clip just to test your settings. Add multiple settings, before you submit the batch. When it is done, see which one you think looks the best compared to file size.

  • Best compression for iWeb movies

    I am building a web site with many short movies I edited in iMovie and Final Cut Express. The movies are about 30-90 seconds each. I would like to use the most trouble free compression method available. By trouble free, I mean for the web site visitor. I do not want visitors to have problems with downloading my movies. I want Windows and Mac users to be able to have an equally easy time. I think I have narrowed it down to using either the H264 CODEC and ask visitors to download QuickTime 7 before downloading my movies or I am also considering Sorenson or MPEG-4. I would like to get a few different opinions on this from people who have working web sites with short movies. Please include a link to your web site so I can check out the performance of your site.
    Thanks,
    Frank

    Sometimes it's better to use some "tricks" to give your pages and movies a bigger "wow" factor.
    I would suggest MPEG-4 settings instead of H.264. As much as it is a great codec and makes nice looking files it forces the viewing machine to have QuickTime 7 installed. Older OS's (lower than 10.3.9 or Windows 98) can't even install it.
    Small file sizes help reduce bandwidth use and speed up the downloads.
    Playing files using the QuickTime Player or at dimensions like double size helps give a wow your visitors remember.

  • Compressed H.264.mov format not recognized in DVD pro?!

    Hi,
    I just compressed my 12 minute HD film using the "create a DVD" 90 min HD setting in compressor. That resulted in two files, one is a Dolby Digital Professional 2.0.ac3 audio file and is recognized in DVD pro, while the other is the video file H.264 6.75Mbps.mov.
    Here are the video file specs:
    Quicktime movie
    615.6 MB on disk
    Dimensions:
    Codecs: H.264, Linear PCM, Timecode
    Dimensions: 1920 × 1080
    Audio channels 2
    I tried using the regular 90min setting but I was seeing a loss in quality. I'd like to burn a good quality dvd using the compressed files, but I can't import the video file into DVD. I would greatly appreciate any help/suggestions. Thank you so much!

    The conversion in scale from 1080 to 480 is probably the most frequent cause of quality dissatisfaction. Because you are inputting a 1080 file, Compressor will automatically turn on Frame Controls (which is accessed via the Inspector). Open Frame Contols. IMO, the Resize Filter should routinely be set to Best for jobs like this.
    Also in the Inspector, go to Encoding>Quality and check the bit rate is set to 7.7 Mbps. If it is (and it should have defaulted to that rate, leave it unchanged.
    Open Preview and mark in and out points for a short representative section of your movie. Then submit.
    In DVDSP open up Preferences and verify that your Project Setting is SD DVD. Verify in General that display mode is 16:9 Letterbox.
    Bring the two files into DVDSP. Use the Graphical view to delete the menu icon. Control click on the Track icon and select First Play. Build and then either waste a blank DVD-R or use and reuse a DVD-RW for the quality test. Then Format. When the DVD has been burned, evaluate by playing from your player to your TV.
    Hopefully you'll like the result and can then proceed to complete the full project.

  • Problems converting to flv from mov

    Ive got quicktime pro and i try to convert my mov files to an flv file and it works but when i go to play the file at about 70% of the way through the video it will freeze. if i fast forward the video it will continue to play the last 30% but without volume. it does this on all mov files i convert.
    i've got another converter on a pc that will convert the mov files to flv with no problems but i want to be able to do it on the mac.

    If you have QuickTime 7.2 installed, encoding FLV video will work properly only if the audio track in the source video is encoded at 44kHz. Otherwise, the FLV will stop playing two-thirds of the way through.
    If necessary, use QuickTime Pro to re-encode the source video so that its audio track is 44kHz. Then encode into FLV.

    Hi all,
    Mission - I need to convert an .flv file to .mov in order to edit in FCP and export out again as flv file

    Problem - when importing to fcp, the audio is out of sync. It may be in sync in one place but out in another. Seems like its a different frame rate???
    What am I doing wrong? How can I fix this?? It's needed tomorrow morning.
    Urgent help is appreciated.

  • Best compression setting 90min movie on Dual Layer DVD

    Okay, I admit, I am a total n00b at this...so sorry if you have to break things down into the most basic terms...
    I am trying to get the BEST quality I can for my adobe Encore project (for ease of calculation, 90min movie and added features).  I was previously getting "exceeds dvd capacity" error in Encore.
    I have decided to recompress and see what I can do to make it all fit, but first I want to re-evaluate my whole process...
    the ultimate issue comes down to three things (i think)...
    1. CBR v VBR??  what is better and why?
    2. What Data Bit Rate to compress at and why?
    3. Single layer DVD vs Dual Layer DVD?  Which is better and why?
    to begin the discussion, I'll tell you what I "know" and what I think.
    It seems DVD players can only handle a max bit rate of 8mbps so I don't want to go over that and using a Dual layer disc I risk that it may not work on older players....also, the dual layer costs twice as much to duplicate (this sucks but money is not an issue at this point, quality is more important).  From what I have read, constant Bit Rate @ 8mbps will give me the Best possible image... 8 is the max and so to encode at 8 the entire time should be the best..  will i have any issues with this?  This is not an amateur home movie but rather an indie feature film so I want to get the best possible viewable product out to people.  I will have blu-ray questions to come later (thats what we are going to send to festivals).
    any help would be greatly appreciated
    thanks so much...
    chris

    Okay, thanks for everyone's thoughts.
    Question....
    I totally understand not wanting to waste space on a dvd IF there was extra room.... HOWEVER, a movie at 90min with menus, etc. BARELY fits on a dvd at a 6.8mbps VBR compression rate....
    therefore....why not just fork out the extra couple bucks and just compress the whole thing at 8.0mbps 2pass CBR, slap it on a dual layer and even though there will be parts of the movie that will be higher than necessary, and there will be leftover space on the dual layer dvd.... you will be guaranteed to have the highest quality right?  heavy motion areas and more static areas will all be encoded at 8 and thus, the best....
    am i wrong in thinking this?
    and after some extensive reading and research....Although is says a dvd player can handle 9.8mbps..... it doesnt' seem safe to encode that high because a lot of players can't handle it.... what is everyone else's thoughts?
    I found this:
    Data rate
    DVD-Video discs have a raw bitrate of 11.08 Mbit/s, with a 1.0 Mbit/s overhead, leaving a payload bitrate of 10.08 Mbit/s. Of this, up to 3.36 Mbit/s can be used for subtitles and a maximum of 9.80 Mbit/s can be split amongst audio and video. In the case of multiple angles the data is stored interleaved, and so there's a bitrate penalty leading to a max bitrate of 8 Mbit/s per angle to compensate for additional seek time. This limit is not cumulative, so each additional angle can still have up to 8 Mbit/s of bitrate available.
    Professionally encoded videos average a bitrate of 4-5 Mbit/s with a maximum of 7–8 Mbit/s in high-action scenes. This is typically done to allow greater compatibility amongst players, and to help prevent buffer underruns in the case of dirty or scratched discs.

  • Is there an easy way to compress and upload movies to iWeb?

    Hi,
    I upload pictures and movies through iPhoto to iWeb. Easy! However, my relatives tell me that they can't watch movies because it takes FOREVER  to download the file. Any tips to compress the movies simply? I'm hoping for an easy solution!
    Thanks!

    If the movie is in .mov format you can compress it to MP4.
    If you have QuickTime Pro, export it with H.264 compression and select "Fast Start" which allows the movie to start playing before it is downloaded.
    The main problem with adding movies to your page in this way is that they have to fully download along with the page files.
    A better way is to use a poster image and some code to load the movie with the plugin of your choice...
