Conditional HTML in a JSP page?

I've been scouring the help and web for about 2 hours and haven't found a way to do this yet.
What I'm trying to do is to conditionally generate attributes to a html tag via JSP, but everything I've tried (even stuff that's valid JSP) won't pass the JDeveloper HTML checks and it won't compile the JSP page.
Specifically, I'm trying to add a bgcolor attribute to a <tr> tag if conditions are met in data in the row, but everything I've tried to get the added data in the tag results in some error.
I've tried something like this in the HTML:
<tr <%= color %> >
and this from the java side:
if (rowCont > 20) {
out.prinln("<tr bgcolor=\"#c0c0c0\">);
else {
out.prinln("<tr>");
Both methods result in lots and lots of HTML errors and JDeveloper won't even compile the page. The hmtl way resutls in "name expected" errors, and the java way results in a bunch of "end tag doesn't match start tag" errors.
Any clues on ways to do this?
Thanks

Can you send me a larger snippet of code from your JSP? I do pretty much the exact same thing in all of our JSP's in our app. If you have a uix:form tag, you'll need to wrap all html inside uix:rawText tags.
String colText = "class=\"OraTableCellText\" style=\"border-left:1px solid #CCCCCC;border-bottom:1px solid #CCCCCC\"";
<td <%=colText%> >Text here </td>
<td <%=colText%> >More Text </td>

  • How can i render a dynamic html file in jsp page

    Hi everybody,
    i am trying to render a dynamic html file in jsp page with the result of querying a database.
    The response of the query is a xml document. And i have a stylesheet to transfer it to html.
    How can i render the html in a jsp file?

    I am using below code for HTML files
    private var appFile:String="index.html";
    if (StageWebView.isSupported)
                        currentState = "normal";
                        webView.stage = stage;
                        webView.viewPort = new Rectangle( 10, 130, (stage.stageWidth)-20, 750 );
                        var fPath:String = new File(new File("app:/assets/html/aboutus/"+ appFile).nativePath).url;
                        webView.loadURL(fPath);
                        addEventListener(ViewNavigatorEvent.REMOVING,onRemove);
                    else {
                        currentState = "unsupported";
                        lblSupport.text = "StageWebView feature not supported";
    above code is working fine for me.

  • Displaying html code in JSP page

    Hi.
    How do I display HTML code in an jsp page, so that the actual code is printet on the screen
    fx:
    <html>
    <head>
    </head>
    <body>
    </body>
    </html>

    I can't get my reply to show properly, but the answer is;
    Change < into &lt ; and > into &gt ;
    but with the semi-colons stuck next to the &lt and &gt if you get my drift

  • Extraneous new lines in HTML output of JSP page

    Hi
    I have bunch of JSP fragments that I use while creating a composite view..Each one of them has server side comments that I use to document their functionality...
    However when final JSP is generated and when I look at the HTML source (which I often need to) it is "chunked" - there is a about 50 blank lines inserted at the top of the page and then on each fragment about 10 or more blank lines.... Initially, I thought that the server side comments created new lines but after removing the comments and redeploying the problem still persists......
    Is there a way to prevent these new lines from being generated? Especially the ones at the start of the document....
    Thanks

    That is not the only way. In your server's default web.xml, there should be a servlet definition for JSPs, something like this:
        <servlet>
            <servlet-name>jsp</servlet-name>
            <servlet-class>org.apache.jasper.servlet.JspServlet</servlet-class>
            <init-param>
                <param-name>fork</param-name>
                <param-value>false</param-value>
            </init-param>
            <load-on-startup>3</load-on-startup>
        </servlet>There is a possible init-param called trimSpaces which will do the job:
            <init-param>
                <param-name>trimSpaces</param-name>
                <param-value>true</param-value>
            </init-param>This may be only a Tomcat 5 feature, however.

    Hi guys,
    When i try to include a Servlet into my JSP,the

    No, and do you know why ? Bcos including a

    in
    a jsp doesnt stop the execution of the jsp. Sotell

    code,
    for us to help you.

    that's the source code....do you have any idea????
    Thak's a lottttFrom linxpda:
    1) setting the flush="false" parameter for thejsp:include tag?
    Here is the problem that I, and perhaps linxpda,
    think you have:
    You get an exception in the servlet.
    You have already written to and flushed the response,
    therefore you can not see the exception on your
    screen (seeing the exception on screen requires a
    send redirect to the error page, which can't happend
    when the response is already committed).
    The exception that is occuring MAY be alreay written
    in your logs, take a look.
    To see the problem on screen so as to be able to
    identify it, make sure your include tag DOES NOT
    flush the buffer. That means change
    <jsp:include page="/showCryptValue" flush="true" />
    to
    <jsp:include page="/showCryptValue" flush="false" />Hi!
    No even setting flush false or true it works...If somebody have done this before tell me how have you did....If you can post your code!

  • Html:link action html:link on results page null

    I am sure that this is something simple and small but I have been banging my head against this problem for a while now.
    I am using the <html:link> tag on my index.jsp page activates an action, retrieves a result and forwards to the homePage.jsp. • Return rowset to JSP Page

    In producing a report table, for example, I'd like to have the JSP page access the
    rowset from the Bean and then walk through the rowset a row at a time, formatting
    output. All the examples I've found create the table code in the servlet. I'd like to
    avoid that, creating the html in the JSP page only.

    hi,
    I think You can do it in this way.
    Store the values that you get from rowset in a hash table and set the return type of your bean method to hashtable. When you call the method in jsp assign the return value to a hash table. From there you can manipulate the objects in hash table.
    Hope this works,

  • Cancel- and main-button dynamically generated using JSP-pages

    Maybe a HOWTO for the Jdev-team.
    HOWTO get rid of the delete and main-button in your jsp-pages?
    Very simple!
    Go to the container_bottom.jsp page in your webapp/jsp-folder and delete the code for the cancel-button => now the user can render his own buttons by using a header.html, contents.jsp and footer.html for the jsp-pages.

    We tried the same thing you are trying to do and got
    very far, but it quickly became very complicated. We
    realized it was just simpler to use the screenflow as
    intended.
    By this I mean, if your parent form has 4 buttons
    (A,B, C and SUBMIT), you should design different
    paths in your screen flow for each button. so when a
    user clicks button A, the parent form submits back to
    Fuego engine, engine looks at screenflow and send
    them down the button A path to the Form A. When they
    hit submit on Form A, screenflow goes back to parent
    form.Hi, bcespinola:
    Our team finally decide use jsp with YUI (Yahoo User Interface Library) to achieve this design. Wish this could help you. All popup window would be replaced by Dialog of YUI. Thanks for your help.

  • Passing values between jsp pages

    Hi all,
    I am a newbie to jsp. I am trying to pass value from one jsp to another.
    Let me post the code here and make my point clear. I have 3 jsp pages and am trying to get the value into my 3rd page that was in the first page.
    This is my Test.jsp page:
    <%@page contentType="text/html"%>
    <html>
    <head><title>Test JSP Page</title></head>
    <body>
    <%-- <jsp:useBean id="beanInstanceName" scope="session" class="package.class" /> --%>
    <%-- <jsp:getProperty name="beanInstanceName" property="propertyName" /> --%>
    Testing.. JSP Page
    <FORM action='Response.jsp' method="POST">
    <input type='Text' name='get_name'>
    <input type="submit" value="Click Me">
    </FORM>
    </body>
    </html>
    This is my response.jsp page:
    <%@page contentType="text/html"%>
    <%@page import = "sun.jdbc.rowset.CachedRowSet" %>
    <html>
    <head><title>Response Page</title></head>
    <body>
    <%-- <jsp:useBean id="beanInstanceName" scope="session" class="package.class" /> --%>
    <%-- <jsp:getProperty name="beanInstanceName" property="propertyName" /> --%>
    Thank you... <%=request.getParameter("get_name") %>
    // I want to pass this get_name to my next page, but since request.getParameter returns an object and not a string, how will I capture the value and pass it to my next page.
    </body>
    </html>
    The 3rd jsp page is:
    <%@page contentType="text/html"%>
    <html>
    <head><title>JSP Page</title></head>
    <body>
    // I am trying to get the value of the name here in this page.
    <%-- <jsp:useBean id="beanInstanceName" scope="session" class="package.class" /> --%>
    <%-- <jsp:getProperty name="beanInstanceName" property="propertyName" /> --%>
    </body>
    </html>
    Your help is appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply, it works. I was wondering whether this is an efficient way of doing this. What I want to do further is to setup a connection to a database and use the value I got from my previous page to query the DB and get the results and display.
    I have see some code in the java website and a lot of people do by writting a bean /class(believe bean is just a class) and then importing it and do the things that way. I have good knowledge of OO and Java as a language and would definitely love to do it this way.
    What i think i am missing is the basic idea to doing this way. So if you could let me know how to do this using java classes I would really appreciate it. If its too much to explain can u point to some good source(URL's) that explain's this. I have searched on this and all i find is code with no good explaination.
    Thanks a lot

  • Conditionally opening a new browser window from a JSP page

    When the user clicks on a button in my JSP page, I'd like to launch a new browser and display certain things in that browser window while leaving the original browser window open. The new browser should only be displayed if certain conditions are met.

            function launchWindow(){
             if (Configuration.openWindow()) {
              window.open("hello.jsp", "newWindow", 'toolbar,width=400,height=400');
        </script>
    </jsp:root>
    My problem is that the call to "Configuration.openWindow()" does not resolve correctly. If I remove that call and simply make a call to "window.open()" all works. But once I put the condition in, nothing happens. I do not see an exception in my browser window but a new browser window does not open.
    Is my syntax correct. Can I make a call to the static method 'openWindow()' in my class 'Configuration.java'.
    I posted this same query on the JSF forum but received now replies. My question is more suited to the JSP forum and hence I'm posting this question here.
    thanks,
    tsc

    I have made some changes so that I do not directly access the 'Configuration' class in my javascript.
    I have a hidden field on my form and when the user clicks the button, in my back bean, I set a value for the hidden field. In the javascript function 'launchWindow()' I check if a value has been set for the hidden field and if yes, I open a new window.
    <ui:body binding="#{Page1.body1}" id="body1" onLoad="launchWindow(document.forms[0]);">
    <h:inputText id="hiddenField" value="#{formBean.hiddenValue}" />
    <script type="text/javascript">
            function launchWindow(form){
                alert("in lw");
                var test = form["form1:hiddenField"].value;
                alert("got test");
                if (test !=  "")
                    window.open("hello.jsp", "newWindow", 'toolbar,width=400,height=400');
                alert ("done test");
    </script>When my page is first loaded, the launchWindow() is called and all the alerts popup as expected.
    When I click on the button (the back bean sets the value on the hidden field), my page is reloaded but this time its blank.
    Any ideas as to why this maybe the case?
    thanks,
    tsc
