Assuming an agent is running on the servers you want to monitor,
navigate to the Agent home page (Via setup --> Agent)
When in the agent home page select 'Add Database'and press [Go]
Assuming yopur database now gets recognized, select the Configure icon and enter the password for dbsnmp.
When done, press [Ok] to return to the agent home page.

Oracle Instant Client for Intel MacOS X

Hi all, this is my first post here (so I don't know if it's the proper place, but to try it is free. Sorry for any inconvenience).
Anybody, can confirm/explain why, one year after launch, there isn't one available download of Oracle Instant Client for Intel MacOS X?
Without it's impossible, for example, to compile PHP with OCI support under Intel MacOS X (native mode) and it's really a pain.
With PPC version existing since ages, wouldn't be absolutely easy to recompile that cool stuff for Intel MacOS X?

Have you searched for "macos x instant client intel" ?
Aren't PHP/Perl/Ruby applications enough?
I sincerely think it's a big mistake to don't offer native connectivity for MacOS X Intel users... of course, your mistake.
Some developers, like me, will stop developing/improving Oracle support in their applications just because they use MacOS X to develop. So, those applications won't run ok under Oracle, no matter where you deploy them.
With thousands of applications running natively under MacOS X Intel... isn't there (@ Oracle) able to recompile that tiny piece of software to run under Intels... sorry but I cannot believe it.

You need to set your path to point to the <wls-install-home>/bin/oci8xx_x/
folder as well. I dont think 5.1 supports 817 type 2 driver, you may have to
use the thin driver from oracle instead.

I used to 10gR1 version to check out change manager. It was indeed buggy. It was quite easy to configure though and bear in mind, that it's here only for backward compatibility reason. This won't be available in the next versions.

Oracle 8 client for Linux

I really need to find the Oracle 8 client for Linux. It isn't available anywhere on Oracle's site. Is there an alternate way to get it? I need a modern PHP to be able to connect with an Oracle 7 database. It is not currently an option to upgrade the Oracle database, as much as I would love to do so.

8.0.4 for linux does not exists nor you need it to connect to a 8 database.
Just install the 9i client (available at OTN) and recompile your cgi's.

Newbie to Oracle Apps and want to configure Oracle EDI Gateway for Inbound Invoice Interface. We are having Oracle EBS R12 installed on OEL 5.6
Do i need to install EDI Gateway or it comes with APPS R12 installation ? if i have to install it explicitly then which EDI version i have to install ? what are steps should i follow to achieve desired results.
One more query, we are having old version of Oracle APPS 6i too, is it possible to configure Oracle EDI Gateway on it ??

Perhaps OpenVPN will work for you. Unfortunately you did not provide any OS information and VPN requirements.
You can find help to install and setup OpenVPN in Google. You might want to check the Fedora EPEL repository http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL to install the software using standard yum in Enterprise Linux.

Is the problem with oci_connect or odbc_connect?
The phpinfo() output shows '--without-unixODBC' which may be a root cause. There is no 'odbc' section shown in the phpinfo() output so I wouldn't expect odbc calls to work.
But if the issue is with OCI8, then make sure that Oracle environment variables and LD_LIBRARY_PATH are set BEFORE starting Apache.

JVM Crash With Oracle OCI Client

My app is running on Windows 7 64 bit, Jboss 4.2, launched from Eclipse, and runs fine when I use the Oracle thin client (10g, 32bit). However when I try to use the OCI client, I get this:

I'll post the contents of the log in another message because it's too long to fit here. Using the thin client is NOT an option unfortunately as the thin driver is missing some functionality that we need to use.
I've installed the Oracle client in a folder that doesn't contain spaces, or parentheses (c:\oracle\.....) and the JDK is installed in a similar directory (c:\java\...)
I've tried both 32bit and 64 bit versions of JDK1.6 and the Oracle 10g client. I have also tried mixed mode and interpreted mode JVM (Xint) with the same results.
ojdbc14.jar is in my JBoss server's lib directory, and ocijdbc10.dll is in my path (c:\windows\system32).
Anyone any ideas what's going wrong? Been trying to fix this for days now. Appreciate any help.

Sorted it (well, my colleague did anyway). We installed a fresh version (32 bit) JDK (6u21), the Oracle 10g (10.0.3) client (32 bit) and made sure that there were no other OCI DLLs anywhere. I had some in the JBoss bin directory which I had copied in earlier that morning and forgotten about. So, the only OCI DLLs I have now are in Oracle's installation directory. Once we removed those erroneous DLLs from the JBoss directory, the server made the connection successfully. I don't full understand why, because I was getting the error earlier without the erroneous DLLs being present too, so I think there was some additional interaction going on somewhere. One other thing that may have been important is the tnsnames.ora file I had. We found a post that said the tnsnames file generated by the installer, when it only has one entry in it, can include dodgy whitespace at the end which can cause problems. So, just to be on the safe side we added a second entry (to another DB) - maybe that was something to do with it.
So, the Oracle 10g client and OCI driver DOES work on Windows 7 64 bit (at least for me anyway)

How to supply wallet location to OCI client for SSL connection other than sqlnet.ora

I have a oracle 11g database server and I am connecting to it through OCI client in OBIEE Admin tool. This is working fine, but now the requirement is we need to connect to an SSL enabled database.
For this I had to update the sqlnet.ora under $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin in OBIEE installation and specify the wallet location where I placed the wallet containing appropriate certificates.
The above is working fine for me. But due to certain restrictions, we cannot create this sqlnet.ora. Is there a way we can pass this wallet location through some environment variables so that sqlnet.ora is not required?
If we create a jdbc connection, we can specify the wallet location through jdbc connection properties. Is there any such equivalent for OCI based connection. I dont mind how we make the wallet location available to OCI client, so long as I dont have to create a sqlnet.ora.

sqlnet.ora file is required if you want to set the wallet location to another directory by using the WALLET_LOCATION parameter.
If you do not want to use sqlnet.ora then you need to use the default wallet location.
The wallet is placed, by default, in $ORACLE_BASE/admin/<global_db_name>/wallet.
If this directory does not exist or ORACLE_BASE is not set, the default location is: $ORACLE_HOME/admin/<global_db_name>/wallet

Configure Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a standalone server

As I understand and as the following doc indicated, to install Oracle database, I'd have to install Grid Infrastructure first. I am not configuring RAC/cluster, only on a standalone server.
I executed runinstaller, and choose " install the software only", then after I selected "configure oralce grid infrastructure for a standalone server", I am getting the following error:
[INS-40410] The installer has detected a configured instance of Oracle Grid Infrastructure software on the system
Please advice how this instance have been configured, and how to remove it before I can proceed?

Configure Oracle OCI JDBC drivers

What is the correct configuration of the connection pools in order to use

There is a small machine specific library that's part of the JDBC OCI drivers. But it does you no good unless you have the OCI libraries themselves. And you must have exactly the same versions of the JDBC Java code, and that small machine specific library as you do OCI libraries for the driver to work. Those OCI C libraries are licensed products. If you want to use the JDBC OCI driver you should get the small machine specific library and Java code from the same source as the OCI libraries themselves. The JDBC OCI drivers are on the install CDs.
I must admit, it's not clear to me what the benefit of having the OCI driver available for download is. If you can use it, then you have access to an Oracle install CD or a downloaded installer which will contain the JDBC OCI driver. I guess that if you already have an OCI install, it's easier to download the driver than it is to find the install CD.
I'm not an expert on what is packaged where or how it's all licensed so I could be confused about some of this. I've asked Product Management to give me a clue. I could use one. I'll post another reply when I hear back.

Creating Oracle service in Oracle 8i Client for Oracle 10g XE

Hi all
We tried Oracle 10g XE on one Machine X - OS Windows XP Professional SP2 , It had earlier Oracle 8i Client. It installed fine. It is wonderful and easy to install.
Services started automatic for listner as well as OracleXE. We are able to create fresh Oracle Service in Oracle 8i client as well from the same machine X.
Problem
We are not able to create Oracle Service from another machine say Y which also has Oracle 8i client with the Oracle 10g XE service. We get TNS Problem error.
Kindly guide as to how to make oracle service with OracleXE from some other machine. OracleXE does not install networking tools.

Oracle XE doesn't install assistants such as dbca or netca, don't expect to find them, XE is a compact and limited oracle edition.
