Connect to Universe, query and export as xml

hello,
I'm trying to do the following:
Connect to a Universe, query and export as xml the results of this query. I want to do it with java not via Crystal Reports. To afterwards import the xml in another Universe.
So far I've tried connecting with The Bussiness Objects Enterprise SDK but I think Im not in the correct path. I can see the Universe I want to connect as a CI_APPOBJECTS by quering.
Which SDKs should I use? What procedure do you recommend?
Thanks a lot

Hi,
I have a problem  with my code using Report Aplication Server SDK.
In my imports I have:
import com.businessobjects.sdk.biar.IExportOptions;
import com.businessobjects.sdk.biar.internal.ExportOptions;
import com.crystaldecisions.sdk.exception.SDKException;
import com.crystaldecisions.sdk.framework.CrystalEnterprise;
import com.crystaldecisions.sdk.framework.IEnterpriseSession;
import com.crystaldecisions.sdk.framework.ISessionMgr;
import com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.infostore.IInfoObject;
import com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.infostore.IInfoObjects;
import com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.infostore.IInfoStore;
import com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.managedreports.IReportAppFactory;
import com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.application.OpenReportOptions;
import com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.application.ReportClientDocument;
import com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.application.PrintOutputController;
import com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.exportoptions.*;
But it was an error when I call three methods:
IXMLExportFormat xmlExportFormat = new XMLExportFormat();
          XMLExportFormats xmlExportFormats = new XMLExportFormats();
          IXMLExportFormatOptions xmlExpFormatOpts = new XMLExportFormatOptions();
          xmlExportFormats = rcd.getPrintOutputController().getSavedXMLExportFormats(); //this
          int index = xmlExportFormats.getDefaultExportSelection();
          xmlExpFormatOpts.setXMLExportSelection(index);
          xmlExportFormat = xmlExportFormats.getXMLExportFormat(index);
          IExportOptions expOpts = new ExportOptions();
          expOpts.setExportFormatType(ReportExportFormat.XML);//this
          expOpts.setFormatOptions(xmlExpFormatOpts);//this
¿Where is the problem?

  • Structure inDesign document and export as XML for use in the web

    Hello everyone,
    I just recently started using inDesign and I am fascinated by its possibilities! I use it for a project where a finished inDesign layout that is used for a printed publication is now supposed to be transformed for implementing it on a web site. My job is to export the inDesign document as an XML file. After massive reading the last weeks I'm quite familiar with the structuring and tagging in inDesign. Though there's some issues I do not understand. Your precious advice would be of highest meaning to me
    The programmer who will later use my XML output for the web-transformation needs the document structured in different levels like "Root > Chapter > Subchapter > Text passage / table". I already structured the document with tags like title, text passage, table, infobox,... but the structure is just linear, putting one item following to another.
    How can I structure the document with reoccuring tags that enable me to identify the exact position of an item in the document's structure? So that I can say for example "text passage X" is located in chapter 4, subchapter 1. This has to be done because the document is supposed to be updated later on. So maybe a chapter gets modified and has to be replaced, but this replacement is supposed to be displayed.
    I hope my problem becomes clear! That's my biggest issue for now. So for any help I'd be very thankful!

    Our print publications are created in InDesign CS5 for Mac then the text is exported to RTF files then sent to an outside company to be converted to our XML specifications for use by our website developers.  I would like to create a workflow in which our XML tags are included in the InDesign layouts and then export the XML from the layouts.
    Some more detail about what kind of formatting is necessary might be helpful.
    I know that IDML files contain the entire layout in XML format.  Is it a good idea to extract what we need from IDML, using the already-assigned tags?
    Well, if you want to export the whole document, it's the only reasonable approach.
    We use a workflow system such that each story is a seperate InCopy document, stored in ICML format (Basically a subset of IDML). Our web automation uses XSLT to convert each story into HTML for use on our web site; it also matches it up with external metadata so it knows what is a headline and what is not, etc.. It is not exactly hassle free, and every once in a while someone uses a new InDesign feature that breaks things (e.g., our XSLT has no support for paragraph numbering, so numbered paragraphs show up without their numbers).
    You could do the same thing with with IDML, you'd just have to pick out each story, but that's small potatoes compared to all the XSL work you're going to have to do.
    On the other hand, there may be better approaches if you're not going to export the whole document. For instance,  you could use scripting to export each story as an RTF file, and then you could convert the RTF files into HTML using other tools.

  • Automate Query and Export in HTML to Sharepoint

    Hello,
    Currently I'm using Disco Plus and I'm finding out that I don't have the ability to automate a report and export the result. In this case, I'm wanting to export in HTML format to a Sharepoint drive.
    I found a recent post saying that there you can script it with Disco Desktop but I don't have that installed and I'm not certain where I can get it... is it possible to download and install yourself or would my IT group need to install it (i have admin privileges to my machine). Is there a licensing fee separate for Desktop? Here are my Disco and system particulars if that helps:
    OracleBI Discoverer 10g (10.1.2.2)
    Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer Plus 10g (10.1.2.54.25)
    Discoverer Model - 10.1.2.54.25
    Discoverer Server - 10.1.2.54.25
    End User Layer - 5.1.1.0.0.0
    End User Layer Library - 10.1.2.54.25
    PivotMan

    Hi PivotMan
    It is possible to download and install Discoverer Desktop yourself as the install is very, very easy. There is, as you suspect, a license issue though in that Discoverer Desktop is not licensed along with your Plus and Viewer licenses and is priced, I believe, at $1,200 per seat.
    If your company has a Discoverer Adminstrator using the Administrator tool then you may not be aware that the license for Admin also includes a license for Desktop and it is probably already installed.
    Independently, you can download the Desktop software, as part of the Tools CD, from OTN at this address: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ids/htdocs/101202winsoft.html
    The download you want is the second one, the Oracle Business Intelligence Tools 1og (10.1.2.0.2) for Microsoft Windows.
    Be wary though because your company has probably upgraded Discoverer to either 10.1.2.2 or 10.1.2.3. You will need to do the same thing for Desktop by downloading the relevant patch from MetaLink. Also, please read the licensing agreement on OTN before downloading and using any Oracle software as you will be required to confirm that you have read and understood Oracle's terms and conditions.
    I hope this helps

  • Using Powershell Script Run simple query in MS Access 2007 and export the results of query to Excel

    Hi Experts,
    I have a Access 2007 DB file and 2 Big tables inside that (bigger than the size that can be easily handled by MS Excel 2007).
    My requirement is automate using powershell scripts the below things.
    1. Create a SQL query in Access DB and save that in access DB
    2. Run the saved query and export the result in excel sheet where I can create the charts and Pivots. Thanks in advance
    Prajesh

    Do you have to use the Access query, couldn't you just recreate the query in Powershell?  Here's a link with good info that references an existing script for querying an Access database:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/heyscriptingguy/archive/2009/08/13/hey-scripting-guy-can-i-query-a-microsoft-access-database-with-a-windows-powershell-script.aspx
    Once you have your dataset you can pipe it to
    Export-Csv -NoType c:\pathtofile\output.csv

  • Powershell use Connection String to query Database and write to Excel

    Right now I have a powershell script that uses ODBC to query SQL Server 2008 / 2012 database and write to EXCEL
    $excel = New-Object -Com Excel.Application
    $excel.Visible = $True
    $wb = $Excel.Workbooks.Add()
    $ws = $wb.Worksheets.Item(1)
    $ws.name = "GUP Download Activity"
    $qt = $ws.QueryTables.Add("ODBC;DSN=$DSN;UID=$username;PWD=$password", $ws.Range("A1"), $SQL_Statement)
    if ($qt.Refresh()){
    $ws.Activate()
    $ws.Select()
    $excel.Rows.Item(1).HorizontalAlignment = $xlCenter
    $excel.Rows.Item(1).VerticalAlignment = $xlTop
    $excel.Rows.Item("1:1").Font.Name = "Calibri"
    $excel.Rows.Item("1:1").Font.Size = 11
    $excel.Rows.Item("1:1").Font.Bold = $true
    $filename = "D:\Script\Reports\Status_$a.xlsx"
    if (test-path $filename ) { rm $filename }
    $wb.SaveAs($filename, $xlOpenXMLWorkbook) #save as an XML Workbook (xslx)
    $wb.Saved = $True #flag it as being saved
    $wb.Close() #close the document
    $Excel.Quit() #and the instance of Excel
    $wb = $Null #set all variables that point to Excel objects to null
    $ws = $Null #makes sure Excel deflates
    $Excel=$Null #let the air out
    I would like to use connection string to query the database and write results to EXCEL, i.e.
    $SQL_Statement = "SELECT ..."
    $conn = New-Object System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection
    $conn.ConnectionString = "Server=10.10.10.10;Initial Catalog=mydatabase;User Id=$username;Password=$password;"
    $conn.Open()
    $cmd = New-Object System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand($SQL_Statement,$conn)
    do{
    try{
    $rdr = $cmd.ExecuteReader()
    while ($rdr.read()){
    $sql_output += ,@($rdr.GetValue(0), $rdr.GetValue(1))
    $transactionComplete = $true
    catch{
    $transactionComplete = $false
    }until ($transactionComplete)
    $conn.Close()
    How would I read the columns and data for $sql_output into an EXCEL worksheet. Where do I find these tutorials?

    Hi Q.P.Waverly,
    If you mean to export the data in $sql_output to excel document, please try to format the output with psobject:
    $sql_output=@()
    do{
    try{
    $rdr = $cmd.ExecuteReader()
    while ($rdr.read()){
    $sql_output+=New-Object PSObject -Property @{data1 = $rdr.GetValue(0);data2 =$rdr.GetValue(1)}
    $transactionComplete = $true
    catch{
    $transactionComplete = $false
    }until ($transactionComplete)
    $conn.Close()
    Then please try to use the cmdlet "Export-Csv" to export the data to excel like:
    $sql_output | Export-Csv d:\data.csv
    Or you can export to worksheet like:
    $excel = New-Object -ComObject Excel.Application
    $excel.Visible = $true
    $workbook = $excel.Workbooks.Add()
    $sheet = $workbook.ActiveSheet
    $counter = 0
    $sql_output | ForEach-Object {
    $counter++
    $sheet.cells.Item($counter,1) = $_.data1$sheet.cells.Item($counter,2) = $_.data2}
    Refer to:
    PowerShell and Excel: Fast, Safe, and Reliable
    If there is anything else regarding this issue, please feel free to post back.

  • XML Export, persistent data and exporting to RPT

    We're using CR4E SP1 with CR 2008 Designer to create reports that are delivered via a web application on Windows.
    The lack of XML export (particulalrly disapointing that the new 2008 XSLT stuff is not there) means we're resorting to some extraordinary steps to get XML out of a report by using jiwam to call the CRPE COM engine.
    We create a report using XI or 2008 that uses a JDBC driver.  The report is copied to our server where users run it in CR4E to view output in Word,  Excel and PDF (we do the connection replacement on the fly).
    To get the XML output, we are attempting to save the report as a temporary RPT (Crystal) file, then invoke CRPE via COM to export the persistent data within the file as XML.
    The COM stuff works fine on a normal RPT file that contains data, but the creation of this temporary file is proving very problematic.
    We have tried SaveAs (just saves what is already in the report) and Export to RPT without success.
    Has anbody got any ideas ?
    A simple question - when is the data within a report actually refreshed?  Is it when the connection is replaced or when the export is initiated?  Is there a method to call that will refresh the data?
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Use CR4E version 2.

  • How to extract data from an arbitrary xml file and export in a nice csv file?

    Hallo,
    I'm facing big problems in the use of XML files. I have an
    application which generates XML files with clusters containing arrays
    and scalars like in the example pasted below. My task is to
    read it and export the data in a human-friendly CSV document.
    Since I don't know the actual content of the cluster, I need some kind
    of intelligent vi which goes through the XML file looking for arrays
    and other data structures in order to export them properly in the CSV
    format (columns with headers).

    Thank you again,
    I'm forwarding my vi draft with many comments and an xml file sample.
    Data in cluster is stored according to the LabVIEW schema, infact it is generated by LabVIEW.
    What I'm trying to do is to access the element of the cluster and read their content using the Invoke node and Property node functions. Could you give it a look, there may be something wrong, I'm not able to access cluster children.
    Which funcions should I use? Could you give me an example? You may use the draft I enclosed...
    Then write these data in a csv file
    should be the easier part.

  • How to create and export a sharepoint list connection file to excel connection file library from power pivot?

    Hi All,
    I'm new to SharePoint and Power BI.
    I've to use  share point 2013 lists to create power view reports. For that, I need to create Power Pivot in Excel 2013.
    I'm fine with the above. We normally take a data feed of a list and create connection to that. We need to create a connection file (.odc) and export it into a excel file connection library of Share point. The connection to be made to share point list. The
    power pivot will be having multiple related lists.
    How can I create a connection file which is referring to share point list
    Please suggest.
    Regards,
    Julie

    Hi All,
    Finally, I could find the answer for this question after a long search.
    First of all, open a new excel file in server.
    Data-->From other connection-->From data connection wizard-->data feed-->Location of the data feed-->
    http://sharepointsite/sitename/_vti_bin/ListData.svc
    -->next-->select the lists which you need-->next-->only create connection-->properties--->export connection file
    -->ok
    The connection file has been created and .odc file exported to the specified location.
    Open power pivot and check the connection in existing connections.
    Exported file has to be uploaded in Excel file connection library of share point 2013. So that you can refer the same in this excel file when you upload it into share point.
    Regards,
    Julie

    Thank you.

    Thanks again for your help.
    I tested your code as-is on a webpage for testing XLST, and when I gave it some sample XML data it returned all the element content with the element tags removed. The sample data is as follows:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <IRSSubmissionManifest xmlns="http://www.irs.gov/efile"><SubmissionId>2</SubmissionId><EFIN>123456</EFIN><TaxYear>2011</TaxYear><GovernmentCode> IRS</GovernmentCode><FederalSubmissionType>1040</FederalSubmissionType><TaxPeriodBeginDate >20110101</TaxPeriodBeginDate><TaxPeriodEndDate>20111231</TaxPeriodEndDate><TIN>123456789< /TIN></IRSSubmissionManifest>
    I altered the fourth line of your XSLT to read as follows: <xsl:template match="IRSSubmissionManifest">
    I tested that XSLT on this page: http://xslttest.appspot.com/
    And the result was exatly what I needed.
    However, I since imported that XSLT into the PDF in Designer and the transformation doesn't occur. The generated XML has all element tags removed. I receive no error messages regarding the XSLT when I save the PDF file in Designer.
    So close yet not enough.
    I wonder if the XML export functionality doesn't like having the root element tag altered. Regardless, it doesn't seem like any of the data supplied is in error.

    Hi,
    In SharePoint 2013, we can take use of REST API or Client Object Model to access the SharePoint objects like Form Library.
    SharePoint 2013 REST API
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/dn450841(v=office.15).aspx
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/fromthefield/archive/2013/09/05/working-with-sharepoint-list-data-odata-rest-and-javascript.aspx
    SharePoint 2013 Client Object Model

    With the retrieved file, we can then use XmlDocument object to parse it and get the values you want:

    If that being the case you need to do it in two steps.
