How to connect java project to sql server 2008 r2 database
i want to create an java application which has to create a database and later access it. My problem is that i am not able to connect sql server 2008 r2 database driver on to the netbeans.i have sql server 2008 r2 installed on my system.please
suggest me the step by step procedure to establish the connectionHi ENG,
To establish a connection to SQL Server from a Java project, you have to download the JDBC driver for SQL Server from
here.
After extracting the jar files(like sqljdbc.jar) from the above link, add the driver to the netbeansIDE.
Test establishing a connection with the below Java Class.
import java.sql.*;
public class Test {
public static void main(String[] srg) {
String driverName = "com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver"; //load the jdbc driver
String dbURL = "jdbc:sqlserver://localhost:1433; DatabaseName=test"; //connection string to the db hosted on localhost
String userName = "sa"; //user name
String userPwd = "123456"; //password
Connection dbConn;
try {
Class.forName(driverName);
dbConn = DriverManager.getConnection(dbURL, userName, userPwd);
System.out.println("Connection Successful!"); //print Connection Successful! if connection establishes
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
A demonstration video from Youtube for you reference.

Since this is a question regarding Java, I suggest you post your subsequent questions to a java dedicated forum. It is appropriate and more experts will assist you.
If you have any question, feel free to let me know.

Connecting BI Pub with Microsoft SQL server 2008
I am trying to connect Microsoft SQL server 2008 as a Data source in BIP .
Using below info :
Driver Type : Microsoft sql server 2005
Database Driver class : com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver
Connection String : jdbc:sqlserver://TXHOURDB71D:1443;DatabaseName=StewartAccessIntegration
I am unable establish the connection and the username and password which I giving is right for the connection.
Please let me know if I am missing any config steps.
AJOfficially, you got to use Hyperion drivers.
For BIPublisher 10.1.3.4 and ++ to connect to Ms sql server,
use the following
This works well and better.
Driver class = hyperion.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver
Connection String = jdbc:hyperion:sqlserver://SERVERNAME:PORT;DatabaseName=DBNAME;
http://winrichman.blogspot.com/2009/04/hyperion-driver-to-connect-to-ms-sql.html
In older versions.
you can also copy the drivers to the lib folder or applib folder and try what you were doing.

Is ODI compatible with Microsoft SQL Server 2008??
Hi,
We are trying to set ODI for SQL Server 2008 but we are getting an error: "connection failed". I do not know if the problem is the driver or the incompatibility between ODI and SQL Server 2008.
Does someone use them together? Are compatible?
If the response is yes, where is the problem? We are using the following JDBC driver:
com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver
jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://<host>:<port>
And we have download the sqljdbc_2.0 driver.
Thank you very much,
Araitz.-Hi Araitz,
I have ODI Connecting to a Master and Work Repository on SQL Server 2008
Couple of things:
- Have you put the JDBC driver in the drivers folder of you ODI installation?
- In terms of the connection strings, your driver name seems OK; This is the string I have for my URL - jdbc:sqlserver://localhost:1433;databaseName=odimaster; IntegratedSecurity=false
For the user name and password, put those in the connection area. By using IntegratedSecurity=false, you are forcing the password to be picked up from the connection area and not trying to use your AD credentials
Note - The connection string contains odimaster (this is for our ODI Designer login)
Hope this helps.

Error connecting jsp with MS SQL Server 2000
Dear all,
I have developed a simple application in java for connecting with SQL Server. But the same thing is not working in jsp. We are using Tomcat 4.0 as a server. Which jar files am I supposed to keep in the Tomcat folder and plz, give the entire path.There are three msbase.jar, msutil.jar and mssqlserver.jar. Put these in the /WEB-INF/lib directory of your application OR... if you will be writing multiple applications that use this, you can put them in the <%TOMCAT_HOME%>/common/lib directory.
From there it should all be the same. -
Code to connect jsp with MS SQL SERVER 2000
i have my SQL Server in my local machine and i need to conne ct my jsp page with that instance.
please provide a sample code to accomplish the same.
along with that can you please send me procedure to establish a DSN for SQL SERVER 2000.
thank you
with love
AnushhPrabuhttp://java.sun.com/j2ee/1.4/docs/tutorial/doc/JSTL7.html
This is a good way of achieving what you want to do. But I should mention that the approach is suitable only for smaller applications. -

Is SQL Developer 1.5.5 Compatible with SQL Server 2008
We are trying to perform a database migration and we keep getting "Locating Source Plugin" failed, we have the jTDS Drivers from sourceforge, tried several versions, including 1.0, 1.2, 1.2.2, 1.2.4, 1.2.5, 1.2.7, and 1.2.8... and i came across a thread Sql Dev Third party migration issue
and i was wondering if SQL Developer 1.5.5 is compatible with Microsoft SQL Server 2008?Those versions are ancient, older than SS2008 even.
Go get version 4.0.3 and a jTDS 3.1 driver.
Details here -
I have been working with the Sql Server 2008 R2 SSIS Tutorial at
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms170419(v=sql.105).aspx
--specifically -- Lesson 1. I have been having some problems with this lesson where the source data from the samples download doesn’t exactly match the data described in the tutorial, and the tables in the tutorial are different from what
is contained in AdventureWorksDW (tutorial refers to DimTime – AdventureWorksDW contains DimDate and no DimTime).
So, after futzing in BI with this tutorial so that I can at least get it to run in Debug – it errors out on the 2nd LookUp object.
Rather than looking for a fix to the problem(s) that I am having between the tutorial and the stuff I downloaded in the samples --
I want “Adapt” the tutorial so I can use the stuff I downloaded and hopefully learn how to use SSIS with the elements (source data and tables) that are present on my workstation.
Here is a description of what is going on for me – which I really don’t understand what is going on in BI – based on the images below – like what columns (from what tables) are they associating to in the OleDB Destination?
Note: the sql in the LookUps here is the sql that I copied from the tutorial.
I probably need to modify these sql statements – so -- the help I am requesting is to make the required modifications/changes
so that I can adapt this tutorial with the stuff that’s on my workstation.
I downloaded the samples and the AdventureWorksDW mdf for Sql Server 2008 R2.
It turns out that in the tutorial it wants me to select a DimTime table, but the version of the AdventureWorksDW db does not contain a DimTime table.
Instead, it contains a DimDate table. So I tried adapting DimDate for the tutorial.
Additionally, the sample data file -- SampleCurrencyData.txt -- has slightly different data types than the types described in the tutorial, so I selected data types for the columns in the datasource text file that would work in BI would to
connect column from source data file to the table.
After finishing all the steps for Lesson 1 -- when I tried debugging the package – and it error'd out on the 2nd Lookup object whichwent red.
I edited the lookups and the sample Ole DB Destination to "ignore on fail” and I did all
green but the FactCurrencyRate table is not being populated -- as described in the tutorial, so I reset the on error back to default (Fail on error option). And based on this tutorial -- I believe FactCurrencyRate
table is the table which is supposed to be populated with the data from SampleCurrencyData.txt?
In the sample data file that downloaded with all the samples I removed all the data from the text file except for 6 rows, so instead of the original 1100 or so rows, I have only 6 rows of data in the source data file (just to keep things
simple for debugging for now). I did not modify the data itself.
Here is what the (raw) data contained in SampleCurrencyData.txt looks like (from the samples that I downloaded from codeplex) – it’s supposed to be 4 columns of data – float, nvarchar, datetime, float:

Below are images of my BI Layout for Lesson 1 from this tutorial -- the FlatFile and configurations for On Fail Error, A Flow task, the 2 LookUps (CurrencyKey and DataKey), the OleDB Destination configuration, the Design view of the associated tables and
the Debug Run of Lesson 1, and the following error messages. My goal is to figure out what is going on in BI for this tutorial.
Error: 0xC020901E at Extract Sample Currency Data, Lookup Datakey [51]: Row yielded no match during lookup.
Error: 0xC0209029 at Extract Sample Currency Data, Lookup Datakey [51]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_INDUCEDTRANSFORMFAILUREONERROR.

I copied the sql from the tutorial here.

Rich PThank you for your reply. I changed the error handling as you suggested on the 2nd lookup to redirect to unmatched rows. Now I get all greet. I don't have the conditional split as in your diagram. But also, nothing appears to have
happened in the DB. Aren't the rows in my text file supposed to be added to the FactCurrencyRate table?
How do I get a conditional split?
Rich P
OK, sorry I forgot to reply you back.
Conditional Split was just dummy task. Ignore it.
Manipulate the data in such way that you get matching records.
Inside Source, for first 2 rows I put the dates which are available in DimDate.
1.00010001,ARS,7/1/2005 0:00,0.99960016
1.00010001,ARS,2/5/2006 0:00,1.001001001
1.00020004,ARS,9/5/2001 0:00,0.99990001
1.00020004,ARS,9/6/2001 0:00,1.00040016
1.00050025,ARS,9/7/2001 0:00,0.99990001
1.00050025,ARS,9/8/2001 0:00,1.001001001
Then in OLE DB Destination, I loaded the rows to TestFactTable.
(Now, you don't even need NO MATCH OUTPUT as there are matching records here)

How to stop SQL Server 2008 R2 generating SQLDump.mdmp files constantly?
Something went wrong with local SQL Server 2008 R2 and it constantly generates SQLDump.mdmp files. It generated 40Gb(!) of SQLDump.mdmp this morning. Server rebooted, but didn't help.
Any ideas what happened with SQL Server and how to stop SQLDump.mdmp files generation?

My Blog about Information Management |
My twitterMemory Dumps are generated automatically by the SQL Server under various circumstances - most of which indicate potential problems in the Instance or the machine. Some that I can recall right now are:
Database Corruption
Non-yielding scheduler
Non-yielding resource monitor
AV (Access Violation)
There can be several other reasons as well. SQL Server generates the dumps, so that these dumps can be analyzed to find out potential problems in the SQL Server.
IMHO, rather than trying to find out ways to stop the dumps from being generated, please try to find out potential problems in the Instance or the machine and fix that. This will stop the dump generation anyway.
In case you need any assistance in analyzing the Dumps, please feel free to engage Microsoft Support.

MS-SQL Server 2008 Update Statistics
Hi,
We have SAP running on MS-SQL 2008. Can we use the command 'sp_updatestats' to update stats on all tables in the schema or is there any option we can schedule a job from DBACOCKPIT?
Thanks,
KrisYes, you can use sp_updatestats as described here [MS173804|http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms173804.aspx] with MS SQL Server 2008.
I do not believe you can create the job from DBACOCKPIT, however. -
Local Network Connection Problem with SQL Server 2008 R2
Hi,
I have CRM application which uses SQL server 2008. Weird thing is that I have no problems connecting from client machines to the server when using a particular router (via LAN) and when I upgrade the firmware of the same router (A common open source firmware
which is used by many also works perfect apart from mentioned problem) and restart the server, the connection cannot be established. I get Error 40.
When i downgrade the firmware and restart the server, the connection works again.
Please note that I am absolutely not touching any configuration of the server. Also the CRM software allows remote connections from public IPs which this feature works fine with both downgraded and upgraded firmwares.
As for my understanding, the routers do not block ports in LAN connections. So how can I diagnose the reason for this connection problem?Hi Leony83,
Please also help to check Windows Event Log information regarding this issue, so that we can do further investigation. In additin, here is the general steps to troubleshoot SQL Server Error 40 issue. Please see:

SAP BOBJ connection with SQL server 2008
HI Gurus
I want to install bobj server on a server that already have SQL server 2008 installed on it, I have few confusions as this is my first time installation, I hope you can help me.
1. Since SQL server is installed on the same machine where I have to install bobj, do I need to create an ODBC connection. Note that O/s is windows server 2008.
2. What kind of other softwares or tools do I need to istall on the server to connect bobj server to sql server in order to crate universe on sql database, for example, Microsoft IIS and ASP.NET, .NET frame work etc etc or are these installed by default automatically when sql server or bobj server installed on the machine.
3. is there any checklist I need to go through before I start with the installation of bobj server.
4. Last but not the least but very important, does anyone has step by step guid with screen shot to thjis installation connectivity.
I would appreciate your feedback and respoce.
Regards.> what do you exactly mean my set---next next and finish, I think if eveything is setup already such as database server, app server, dev qa and prod and sizing , users etc etc then i guess installing bobj is pretty simple
> , all i need is a odbc connection to set up, i am not sure what kind of problems should i be anticipating.
Read the installation guide - and figure yourself if you consider it "easy".
> Also I am not talking about admin part, universe design and report development ,its totally seperate issue, I was just concerned about installing a bobj tool on the server and to connect it to sql server.
> Do you have any thoughts on this, would appreciate
As said - read the installation guides
There's a reason why they are there and why they are so big.
All I can say that it is not as easy as doubleclicking a "setup.exe", pres "next", "next" and "finish".
Did you check the guides?

I'm creating a web application using struts 2.0 , tomcat 6.0 and sql server 2008.
Everything works fine but i'm unable to create connection pooling with sql server 2008.Please help me to solve this issue.
Code for this is as foolows:

driverClassName="com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver"
url="jdbc:sqlserver://HGL-0053\dbo:1433;databaseName=spas_new;responseBuffering=adaptive;"/>
</Context>
in my web.xml
<resource-ref>
<description>SQL Server Datasource</description>
<res-ref-name>jdbc/spas_new</res-ref-name>
<res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type>
<res-auth>Container</res-auth>
</resource-ref>
and in my ConnectionThread.java file i've used:
Context ctx = new InitialContext();
if(ctx == null )
throw new Exception("Sorry! No Context Exception");
DataSource ds = (DataSource)ctx.lookup("java:/comp/env/jdbc/spas_new");
System.out.println("ds:"+ds);

It does not give me any problem by them.
I'm unable to find the actual problem. May be i'm missing something in connection pooling.
Please help.
