Connecting DB2 to Oracle
I have a requirement that needs data from DB2 to be accessed in Oracle 9i. There are views in DB2 running on Mainframe which needed to be accessed in Oracle. Is there any way we can do this ? If yes, how ?
Any help in this will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Shyam Menon
You can. Oracle has a product called Heterogeneous Services that will allow you to create a database link to a non-Oracle (in this case DB2) database either via ODBC or via a Transparent Gateway. If you aren't running Oracle on Windows, you will likely either have to license a third-party DB2 ODBC driver for you particular platform or you will have to purchase the Transparent Gateway from Oracle.

hi,
i)what is the cwbcfg program to be executed you have mentioned.
ii) I executed caths.sql
iii) In tnsnames.ora how to specify the dsn that you create for db2 database.
for example if I have created a dsn for db2 naming it kishore_dsn, how do i specify that in tnsnames.ora file.
and by what sid is the iniths_sid.ora to be created. is it the dsn you create for db2 database. for ex. if dsn name is kishore_dsn, should the file be initkishore_dsn.ora, or it should be the name of local oracle database service.

I am getting ora-12154 tns could not resolve service name, while tring to access db2 after creating public links.
I would appreciate if you can send me step by step generic connectivity ,connecting db2 from oracle.

Error message when connecting ZLINUX/DB2 with Oracle
Hi BW gurus,
We are upgrading to BI 7.0 & ECC 6.0. We are on the operating system: ZLINUX/DB2 Operating System.
The ZLINUX/DB2 OS needs to be connected to the Oracle system through DB connect. As there is no direct connection between these two,
have to install an application server client compatible to windows.
When trying to install the client; we are getting the following error message:
" Can not NFS mount the /sapmnt/<SID> file system or /usr/sap/trans file system from zLinux to a Windows server running the new version of NFS service in R2. The problem does not happen on my XP desktop running Window Services for Unix.
Please guide me in this regard about how to proceed.

Is HS Generic Connectivity(db2/400 odbc) supports Distributed Transaction?
hi,
Is HS Generic Connectivity(db2/400 odbc) supports Distributed Transaction?
I am getting an error as follows
"ORA-02047 cannot join the distributed transaction in progress" when i am trying a transaction, which is inserting in to db2/400 and updating in Oracle.
if it does not support this, what is the best way
to do such things using generic connectivity.
(eg. by committing each sql statement ?)
my db is oracle 9i 9.2.0.4.0
remote db is db2/400 connected with client access ODBC.
Thanks
BAHi,
one of the restrictions of generic connectivity is, that distributed transactions are not allowed.
See manual: 7-6 Oracle9 i Heterogeneous Connectivity Administrator's Guide
- Generic Connectivity agents cannot participate in distributed transactions; they
support single-site transactions only
So you can only commit after each statement or you have to use the GATEWAY -
IBM DB2 to Oracle Database Migration Using SQL Developer
Hi,
We are doing migration of the whole database from IBM DB2 8.2 which is running in WINDOWS to Oracle 11g Database in LINUX.
As part of pre-requisites we have installed the Oracle SQL Developer 4.0.1 (4.0.1.14.48) in Linux Server with JDK 1.7. Also Established a connection with Oracle Database.
Questions:
1) How can we enable the Third Party Database Connectivity in SQL Developer?
I have copied the files db2jcc.jar and db2jcc_license_cu.jar from the IBM DB2 (Windows) to Oracle (Linux)
2) Will these JAR files are universal drivers? will these jar files will support in Linux platform?
3) I got a DB2 full privileged schema name "assistdba", Shall i create a new user with the same name "assistdba" in the Oracle Database & grant DBA Privillege? (This is for Repository Creation)
4) We have around 35GB of data in DB2, shall i proceed with ONLINE CAPTURE during the migration?
5) Do you have any approx. estimation of Time to migrate a 35 GB of data?
6) In-case of any issue during the migration activity, shall i get an support from Oracle Team (We have a Valid Support ID)?
7) What are all the necessary Test Cases to confirm the status of VALID Migration?
Request you to share the relevant metalink documents!!!
Kindly guide me in-order to go-ahead with the successful migration.
Thanks in Advance!!!

[email protected]Hi Klaus,
Continued with the above posts - Now we are doing another database migration from IBM DB2 to Oracle, which is very less of data (Eg: 20 Tables & 22 Indexes).
As like previous database migration, we have done the pre-requirement steps.
DB Using SQL Developer
Created Migration Repository
Connected with the created User in SQL Developer
Captured the Source Database
Converted Captured Model to Oracle
Before Translation Phase we have clicked on the "Proceed Summary"
Captured Database Objects & Converted Database Objects has been created under PROJECT section.
Here while checking the status of captured & converted database objects, It's showing the below chart as sample:

For DB2 to Oracle conversion best practices
My company is enhancing existing application adding newly J2ee web interface and database as DB2.I am new to J2EE. In future if we want to migrate my database to Oracle, which are the best things to do it now.
Which J2EE framework is good in respecte JDBC connectivity and future migration of DB2 to Oracle? (Minimal changes at Migration Time)
It is medium size application with 5000 users.Which are other best practises to follow in development keeping the migration in Mind. Thanks..Yes, you should login as system, create a user, appowner, or what ever you call it, and assign that user a default tablespace of 'USERS' or whatever tablespace you decide. Then, grant that user all the privileges to create objects, i.e., create table, create procedure, create synonym, etc, etc.
Then, logout as system, login as appowner, and do all your object creation from there.
A user is a set of credentials that allow you access to the system. It defines your identity and your privileges and authority to do various things. A schema is the set of objects owned by a particular user. As soon as a user owns at least one object, that implicitly defines his schema. It's not possible for a user to own or control multiple schemas. If you want multiple schemas, that's fine, but you'll need multiple users, and each user will manage his own schema.
Hope that's clear,
-Mark
PS I strongly suggest you review the Concepts Guide, it really is quite good. It can be found here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10713/toc.htm -
How Do I.... DB2 To Oracle Daily Loads
I need to upload DB2/AS400 data daily. This would be a piece of cake in SQL Server using DTS. But I don't know where to start in the Oracle world.
I DONT want to export files daily from DB2 side & then FTP them to the Oracle/Sun box; it's been tried & there are too many failure points. Also, that would require tracking dozens of files (one for each query).
I see some threads about database links using ODBC, but I'm on a Sun box. Is it still possible? Are there other connectivity options?
Thanks much in advanceJohn,
DB2 to Oracle on a daily basis has different options, each with their own advantages/disadvantages:
- Use Oracle's transparent gateways, that make the DB2 database look like an Oracle database to your Oracle database. Biggest pro: good performance. Biggest con: transparent gateways are seperately priced options on the database.
- Use ODBC to connect Oracle to DB2. Biggest pro: free at the Oracle side. Biggest 2 cons: relatively slow performances and manual effort to set it up.
- Generate files from DB2 and load those into Oracle. Biggest pro: simple. Biggest 2 cons: requires at least one more staging step, causing slower performance and is more difficult to manage.
Hope this helps,
Mark. -

DB2 to Oracle conversion using SQL Developer Migration Wizard - different schemas
I am performing a conversion between DB2 to Oracle 11 XE, using the SQL Developer Migration Wizard. Specifically I am trying to migrate the DB2User schema over to Oracle.
Using the migration wizard, when I pick the Oracle target connection to be the same schema ( DB2User schema ) the migration is successful and all data is converted.
However if I pick a different Oracle target connection ( say OracleUser ) , I run into issues.
Firstly , the table schema is not created. When I check the project output directory, the .out file has the following errors:
CREATE USER DB2User IDENTIFIED BY DB2User DEFAULT TABLESPACE USERS TEMPORARY TABLESPACE TEMP
SQL Error: ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
01031. 00000 - "insufficient privileges"
connect DB2User/DB2User
Error report:
Connection Failed
Commit
Connection created by CONNECT script command disconnected
I worked around this by manually executing the .sql in the project output directory using the OracleUser id in the new DB.
Then I continue with the migration wizard and perform the Move Data step.
Now - the message appears as succuessful, however, when I review the Migrationlog.xml file, i see errors as follows:
<level>SEVERE</level>
<class>oracle.dbtools.migration.workbench.core.logging.MigrationLogUtil</class>
<message>Failed to disable constraints: Data Move</message>
<key>DataMove.DISABLE_CONSTRAINTS_FAILED</key>
<catalog><null></catalog>
<param>Data Move</param>
<param>oracle.dbtools.migration.workbench.core.logging.LogInfo@753f827a</param>
<exception>
<message>java.sql.SQLSyntaxErrorException: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist</message>
<level>WARNING</level>
<class>oracle.dbtools.migration.datamove.online.TriggerHandler</class>
<message>ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
</message>
I think what is happening is that the wizard is attempting to perform the 'move data' process using the DB2User id.
How do I tell the wizard that the target schema is different than my source schema.
My requirement is that I need to be able to migrate the DB2User schema to different schemas in the same Oracle database
( since we will have multiple test environments under the same database ) .
Thanks in advance .
K.Perhaps the following from the SQL Developer documentation is helpful for you:
Command-Line Interface for Migration
As an alternative to using the SQL Developer graphical interface for migration operations, you can use the migration batch file (Windows) or shell script (Linux) on the operating system command line. These files are located in the sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin folder or sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper/bin directory under the location where you installed SQL Developer.
migration.bat or migration.sh accepts these commands: capture, convert, datamove, delcaptured, delconn, delconverted, driver, generate, guide, help, idmap, info, init, lscaptured, lsconn, lsconverted, mkconn, qm, runsql, and scan. For information about the syntax and options, start by running migration without any parameters at the system command prompt. For example:
C:\Program Files\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin>migration
You can use the -help option for information about one or more actions. For the most detailed information, including some examples, use the -help=guide option. For example:
C:\Program Files\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin>migration -help=guide

There is a JDBC Driver that allow me to Connect db2/as400
Hi!
I have an Oracle application and now I need to access some data in DB2/400 from this application. My first Idea was to use Java with JDBC to make the connection and I have tried to load the classes of the JDBC driver that I use to connect DB4/400 from Windows but It didn't work, I used the loadjava command but almost all the classes can be compiled when are being load to oracle.
Have you ever do something like that?, Is there any JDBC driver to connect DB2/400 from Oracle?
I have Oracle 8.1.5 with jdk 1.1.6
Thanks in advanceWhat JDK are you using on the Windows machine? My first guess is that you need to get a version of the DB2 JDBC driver that is compatible with the 1.1.6 JDK-- the version you have at the moment probably requires a later version of the JDK.
I don't recall off the top of my head what version of the JDK 8.1.7.4 used, but I know 9.2 is using at least the 1.2 JDK. Is it possible for you to upgrade your database, at least to a supported version (8.1.7.4) if not the current version (9.2)?

Rp1. in physical connections part can i use the same work schema
2. Can i use same contexts created or do i need to create everything as new and then try?
Thanks,

Hi,
As you mentioned that you just upgraded the database, so the data is same and schema is same you can connect with the same work schema.
Yes, you can use the same contexts , but need to do Reverse Engineering for your new database.
And about data server, i think you also have no need to create new data server, if hostname, sid and port etc are same as these were with R11(consult with your DBAs regarding it) -

Connecting to an Oracle database after clicking on a foi
Does anyone know how or have any examples on how to connect to an oracle database after clicking on a 'feature of interest' in MapViewer? I want to be able to click on a 'feature of interest' on the map, and have a list of records from an oracle table displayed using the identified key of the foi. I am able to create the feature of interest, and add the event listener for 'mouse click', but am unsure how to connect to the database at this point. I have been able to connect to the database in a different jsp, but not from here. Thank you.
1. Create a JSP page that does the database query. It should take the foi id as an input parameter.
2. In the foi mouse click listener, display the JSP page in iframe. The iframe can be placed outside the map or inside the info window. The function should do something like this.
function myClickListener(point, foi)
mapview.displayInfoWindow(point, "<iframe id='my_iframe_id' frameborder=0 width=300px height=400px />", 300, 400) ;
var myIframe = document.getElementById("my_iframe_id") ;
myIframe.src = "http://myhost/myjsp?key=" + foi.id ;
